Display Features

Fold-Down/Detachable Front-Panel: The VM8013HD's front-panel manually folds down for loading and ejecting your discs. The VM8013HD's front-panel is also detachable to deter theft. The unit comes with a hard plastic face-case to protect the front-panel when detached.

3.5" LCD Monitor: The VM8013HD features an integrated 3.5" Digital TFT LCD (16:9) display with a resolution of 320 x 234 pixels on the unit's front-panel. The LCD screen has a contrast ratio of 350:1. You can dim the LCD screen by 1/2 or completely.

Aspect Ratio: You can choose from the following aspect ratio modes for the unit's motorized monitor:

• 16:9: the entire screen is extended horizontally to the aspect ratio of 16:9
• 4:3: the conventional display image has a 4:3 aspect ratio of horizontal to vertical, leaving a blank area on the right and left sides of the display

PRK SW: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the supplied pink wire must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged. The pink parking brake wire is used to connect to your parking brake light wire (video on the LCD monitor can only be displayed when this unit's pink PRK SW wire senses that the parking brake has been engaged in the vehicle).

12 or 24 Hour Clock: You can set the unit to display a 12 or 24 hour clock.

Audio Section

D/A Converter: The VM8013HD is equipped with a high-performance 24-bit, 192kHz digital-to-analog converter with a multi-bit Sigma-Delta modulator.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the VM8013HD are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the VM8013HD are as follows:

• CEA2006 Specs: 17 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
• Maximum Power Output: 40 watts x 4 channels (160 watts total)

Equalizer: The Equalizer function applies preset Bass & Treble effect on the unit's audio output signal. You can choose from Rock, Hip Hop, Dance, Acoustic, or Off (flat). The Jensen VM8013HD also allows you to manually adjust Bass and Treble independently from -7 to +7.

Loud: When listening to music at low volumes, this feature will selectively boost certain bass and treble frequencies.

5CH Preamp Outputs: This unit has five audio preamp outputs (Front L/R, Rear L/R, and mono-Sub) for connecting an external amplifier.

Subwoofer Controls: The unit's mono-subwoofer preamp output has a variable low-pass crossover setting of 80, 120, 160Hz, or Off (full-range). You can also adjust the subwoofer volume independently from -14 to 0.

Turn On Volume: This feature allows you to select a turn-on volume setting regardless of the volume setting prior to turn the unit off.

Beep Tones: An audible beep tone confirms each function selection. The beep tone can be disabled/enabled in the Setup Menu.

Radio Functions

HD Radio: The Jensen VM8013HD Multimedia Receiver features a built-in HD Radio tuner. HD Radio technology allows CD-quality digital broadcasting of your local AM and FM radio stations. This new technology will significantly improve audio quality and reception, as well as include information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. HD Radio Technology will deliver high-quality digital sound. AM digital will have FM-like quality in stereo, while FM digital will have CD-like quality with static free and clear reception. In addition, AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. HD Radio broadcasts can include multiple channels on the same frequency, which is called multicasting. With multicasting, you can receive up to eight additional multicast channels: HD1 through HD8. With the VM8013HD radio, you will receive HD Radio digital broadcast automatically when tuned to a station that offer HD Radio technology. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit HDRadio.com.

AM/FM Tuner: The headunit also supports standard AM/FM radio. The unit features 3 FM bands and 1 AM band with the capability of storing 6 presets for each band giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets. You can also automatically store the six strongest stations in your area inside the current selected band. In addition, the tuner features an Preview Scan function which allows you to preview the available stations in your area. The unit's tuner also is equipped with a Seek mode which searches out the strongest AM/FM stations. ``The tuner features selectable North America and European tuning.

XM Satellite Radio: To receive XM Satellite Radio connect the optional CNP2000UCA XM Tuner and the CNP-JEN1 Jensen adapter cable (package item number 700XMJEN2).

Disc/SD-card Playback

Electronic Shock Protection: The VM8013HD features electronic skip protection for CD (10 seconds), MP3 (45 seconds), and WMA (90 seconds) playback to prevent skipping and audio dropouts.

Disc Compatibility: The VM8013HD is compatible with the following discs:

• DVD: DVD Video, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW
• VCD: Video CD, Super Video CD
• CD: Audio CD (CD-DA), CD-R, CD-RW
• Media File Formats: MP3, WMA, JPEG, MPEG 1/2

MP3/WMA Playback: The VM8013HD can play MP3/WMA (8-320 kbps) files with ID3 Tag capability that have been recorded on CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW discs. The files must be recorded in ISO 9660 Level 1/2, Joliet or Romeo formats. the headunit can recognize up to 8 hierarchies, 255 folders, and 1500 total files.

Track Time Access: You can enter a specific time on a track, using the supplied remote control, to access a specific position on a track directly.

Multi-Angle Display: This function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a number of different angles.

Zoom: When playing DVDs and Video CDs, you can enlarge the picture using the zoom feature. You can choose one of the following zoom settings - 1/4x, 1/2x, 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x.

Parental Lock: The DVD system has a built-in Parental Lock feature to prevent unauthorized persons from viewing restricted disc content. By default, the rating system is unlocked. You can choose from 8 different levels of Parental Lock. Once setup, the parental lock is released only by entering the user 4-digit password.

SD-Card Slot: The Jensen VM8013HD features a front-panel SD-card slot which allows you to play back saved MP3/WMA (8-320 kbps) audio files from an SD card. Once the SD card is loaded, the unit will read the audio media files on the card automatically. The unit supports up to a 2GB SD card.

USB/iPod Connectivity

USB Port: The Jensen VM8013HD features a front-panel USB type-A port for playback of MP3 (8-320 kbps) and WMA (8-320 kbps) audio files recorded in FAT 16 or FAT32 on  a connected USB mass storage device. The headunit can recognize up to 8 hierarchies, 255 folders, and 1500 total files. The VM8013HD will also display ID3 tag (version 2.0) information up to 31 characters. This unit supports USB 1.1 only, but will play USB 2.0 devices at USB 1.1 speed.

iPod Controls: The supplied jLink2 iPod cable allows you to connect select iPods to this unit through the headunit's rear-panel proprietary jLink port. Once an iPod is connected, you can playback audio/video content from your iPod on the VM8013HD. The Jensen headunit will also display text information such as song, track or artist name from your connected iPod. You can directly control audio functions of your iPod from your Jensen headunit's controls or IR remote. During audio playback of your iPod, the iPod's controls will be locked. The jLink2 cable and the VM8013HD do not support photo and video control. Photo and video playback will still be controlled from your iPod's click-wheel or touch-screen. The unit will automatically switch to iPod mode when an iPod is plugged into the supplied jLink2 iPod cable. Select iPods are charged when they are connected to the head unit. The Jensen VM8013HD and the jLink2 cable is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and support the following iPod/iPhone model features (as of Dec. 2009):

AV Connections

AV Input: The Jensen VM8013HD features a front-panel 3.5mm A/V input and comes supplied with a 39" AV minijack cable for connecting an external audio/video source.

Video Out 1 and 2: These RCA composite video-output jacks allow you add external monitors such as rear headrest monitors (sold separately).

Rear View Camera Input: The VM8013HD features a composite video input and a green/white wire lead attached to the harness for connection of a rear view camera. If a rear-view video camera is connected, the unit is on, and the TFT monitor is retracted inside the unit, the TFT monitor automatically moves into the viewing position and Camera modes is selected upon shifting into Reverse gear. When shifting into Drive gear, the TFT monitor is retracted back inside the unit. If the monitor is already in a viewing position and in display mode, the monitor automatically switches to Camera mode upon shifting into Reverse. When the reverse driving stops, the monitor returns to its original input display mode. You can choose for the monitor to display a Mirror mode image or a Normal mode image from the rear-view camera.

Remote Control

Remote Control: The VM8013HD comes supplied with an IR wireless remote control which allows full function of the unit (except disc eject).

Steering Wheel Remote Control Compatible: The Jensen VM8013HD features a 3.5mm steering wheel remote control input for connecting the SWI-PS steering wheel remote interface. The optional SWI-PS interface ( 127SWIPS, sold separately)  allows you to retain the use of your steering wheel and/or rear seat radio controls when replacing the factory head unit in select vehicles with this Jensen head unit. In some GM vehicles, this adapter allows you to retain heater control buttons as well. The SWI-PS is compatible with over 95% of the vehicles made from 1986 to the present. Compatible vehicles include many Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hummer, Infiniti, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Suzuki, Toyota, and Volkswagen vehicles and Harley Davidson motorcycles.
