About the Metra 70-1761 Receiver Wiring Harness

Metra 70-1761 receiver wiring harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness adapter makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system. It works with select 1987-up Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Subaru, and Geo vehicles.

Metra 70-1761 receiver wiring harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness adapter makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system. It works with select 1987-up Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Subaru, and Geo vehicles.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and it also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna turn-on
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Features

Metra Wiring Harness: Metra wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Metra wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Metra wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Metra wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

Q
does this harness work with the nakamichi system in my 92 ls400?
mschwartz  Dec 30, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings mschwartz, and thank you for your question. Our data base has the Pioneer system in the 1992 LS400, and in 1993 Lexus introduced the Nakamichi premium system. Perhaps you have a late 1992, or maybe a 1993. regardless, this would not be the correct harness for the Nakamichi system. We are showing the Metra 70-9112.

I got question about this product. this harness comes with blue wire instead with blue white. My new radio wire is blue white. Can I connect the blue white with the blue wire? Thank you (doesn't have a blue wire on my new radio cable
tommy  Dec 10, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Tommy, and thank you for your question. Both the blue, and blue/white wires are trigger wires. Your radio Blue/White wire turns something else 12 volt on. Like a power, or amplified antenna in your vehicle. It would also turn on a factory, or aftermarket amplifier. If your vehicle has neither of those, you really don't have to connect those wires. But if it does, then yes, connect the Blue/White to the Blue on the Metra harness.

I have a 96 t100. I'm installing a aftermarket touchscreen radio and the harness to the radio has illumination wire that is orange and the wire harness I got only has a orange/white stripe thats is dimmer. What should I do?
jmcad  Jul 02, 2021
1 answer
A
I certainly do not remember since it has been some time since I did the install. I believe there are two wires on that harness. If not call the Crutchfield technician support. All I can say is that I have done three installs, 350z, Tundra, and LS400. All work flawlessly. Take your time this can be tedious work. Get it right the first time so you do not have to keep taking it apart to figure out the problems.

Q
Will this allow me to retain the factory Sub in my 2009 FJ Cruiser?
thomas  Mar 28, 2019
2 answers
A
My guess is that it would not play your new receiver through that sub without adding a separate amp - your factory srereo probably has a direct sub-out lead. These harnesses provide basic speaker , antenna, power, memory and ground connections, as that is what replacement radios need. Your new radio (not specified) probably has some low level outs that could feed a separate little amp for the sub - check directly with C'field tech guys - they probably can tell you which wires in the car harness will get it hooked to your sub - good luck, it can be doe...
bruce k.  Apr 04, 2019
A
I believe it did have connection for sub but not positive as I added an external sub that I powered separately and used sub output from stereo

Q
Will this adapter work on 2003 Toyota Tacoma and a Pioneer AVH-X2800BS with Bluetooth?
jbaum  Nov 19, 2018
2 answers
A
It is the harness we recommend for connection to the factory wiring in the 2003 Tacoma, yes. You can connect the leads of the Metra harness to the leads of the Pioneer stereo's harness (packaged with the stereo) for power (both constant & switched), ground, dimmer, power antenna, and all of the positive and negative speaker connections. A multi-media receiver (like the AVH-X2800BS) will have additional leads in it's harness you'll have to hardwire to the factory wires in your truck (parking brake sensor, reverse trigger). For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directly by phone or through our online chat service: https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

This is the recommended stereo wiring harness for connecting an aftermarket stereo to the stock wiring in a 2008 Toyota Tacoma without the premium JBL sound system. The stock tweeters are wired in parallel with the door woofers and will continue to play if left connected when the new stereo is installed, yes. I hope that helps!
