About the Pioneer ND-BC6

Buck Pomerantz
Pioneer's tiny ND-BC6 rear-view camera measures about an inch in all dimensions, so you can mount it unobtrusively on the back of your car. The view, however, is expansive, as the camera supplies a 138-degree horizontal and 114-degree vertical view to the rear of your vehicle. Hook it up to any receiver with a composite video rear-view camera input, and you've added an extra measure of safety to your car, truck, or RV.

The adjustable camera bracket adheres to your license plate or any other convenient spot. A small (2" x 1" x 1") power supply module gets connected in with the included 30' of wiring, so virtually any size vehicle can get equipped with a rear view. The camera renders a detailed 330,000 pixel resolution color image, and boasts Lux Automatic Luminance Control for a clear picture in bright or dim conditions.

Note: A rear-view camera provides an additional view when reversing your vehicle. It is intended to be used in conjuction with your rear- and side-view mirrors to give a fuller picture of what's behind you. It is not intended as a replacement for your mirrors.

Features

Compatibility: The Pioneer Universal Rear-View Camera (ND-BC6) is designed for use with Pioneer and other manufacturer in-dash AV/Navigation head units that feature an integrated monitor and rear view camera input (composite video).

Waterproof Aluminum Chassis: The camera is built into a compact waterproof aluminum case, making it perfect for mounting outside the vehicle.

CMOS Image Sensor: The Pioneer Universal Rear-View Camera (ND-BC6) utilizes a 1/3.6" color CMOS image sensor that has approximately 330,000 pixels to deliver a high quality picture. A CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) sensor offers improved resolution and eliminates the vertical light "smear" phenomenon that occurs when a camera using a CCD sensor is exposed to a very bright light source or direct sunlight.

Wide Angle Lens: The 138° horizontal and 114° vertical viewing angles provide an excellent near field view of anything behind you.

Automatic Sensitivity Compensation: The camera automatically adjusts to the available light, from 0.9 lux to 100,000 lux. The 0.9 lux rating ensures you'll have visibility at night in low light, while the 100,000 lux rating means the picture won't be washed out in bright sunlight.

Power Supply: The hideaway power supply unit features two Molex plugs. The 3-pin molex plug connects to the camera's attached harness and supplies power and receives signal. The 4-pin molex plug connects to the Power/Ground/Video harness. Its RCA output feeds signal to your monitor while the other two lead provide power and ground. The power lead has an in-line 1 amp fuse.

Mounting: The rear view camera comes supplied with a pre-installed self-adhesive bracket which can tilt the camera up and down.

Q
Are lines indicated to judge distance to rear objects?

yes
james  Feb 13, 2015
A
No they are not included.
jason  Jan 26, 2015
A
There is no line, just give you a wide angle of view, view are clear
tony  Jan 26, 2015
A
No. There are no line indicators of any kind.
anthony  Jan 26, 2015
A
The provide a gauge of distance but they are not as smart as I have seen on more recent cars that I have rented (e.g., blinking red when too close). They are accurate within a foot or two. Nonetheless, I have a 30 year old car and love the fact that I have a back up camera on it.
russell h  Jan 26, 2015
A
No.
kenneth j  Jan 26, 2015
A
No, lines are not provided. FYI, I am currently question reliability. Unit stopped working after a year of use, however I have not trouble checked power supply at this time.
doug  Jan 25, 2015
A
No there are no distance marker lines. Wish there were, but works well anyway.

Q
Can this camera be used to view behing my vehicle without putting it in "reverse"?

Yes

A
Yes
james  Dec 16, 2014
A
Yes. I used a pioneer headunit that allowed you to turn the camera off on and whenever you want so you can have it always on if you like.
dominic  Dec 06, 2014
A
Yes it can as long as it is powered by your receiver it will show behind vehicle whenever vehicle is on. I use it with a pioneer receiver which is able to turn camera on and off. If it is wired to the reverse light as power, then it will only come on when vehicle is in reverse.
donald  Dec 06, 2014
A
Jim, On our install it can because the main unit has a separate touch screen that can turn it on and off. We go to our main screen and turn the camera on or off from there. We do not use the reverse option wire. It gives an excellent color picture. Therefore you need to see if your main unit has such an option. If it does you will need to manually get to this screen and toggle the camera on and off. I hope this helps. Billy
billy j  Dec 05, 2014
A
All depending on your head unit, some required to connect to reverse and some you can connet to hot lead so you can turn on and off
tony  Dec 05, 2014
A
Through the system config screen on my Pioneer head units I can turn the camera on and off without putting the vehicle in reverse.
jason  Dec 05, 2014
A
Yes
simon  Dec 05, 2014
A
I hate this answer but here goes.... It depends. It depends on the system to which it is attached. Mine is interfaced to the Pioneer AVIC-X850BT and it has a mode that allows a split screen of camera view and what other function the unit is in at the time.
michael  Dec 05, 2014
A
Yes. The software of the deck allows you to configure the camera to come on whenever you want.

Q
Hello I am looking for a backup cam for my 2003 chevy suburban I like this model but it says it will not fit is there any other good ones out there?

A
I don't have a Chevy suburban. However as small as the camera is I would think it would fit on your suburban. It works perfectly.

Glad to help. This camera would not fit on our Land Cruiser. So, we had a license plate camera installed instead. The license plate camera is not very good for resolution. We did have this camera installed on our Avalon with great results. It' a great product for the Avalon. Just wished we could have gotten it to fit on the Land Cruiser.

I got the pioneer camera because it plugged right into my pioneer receiver. Not sure what input your receiver has,so cant be sure which one to tell you. I have installed 2 Peak brand backup camera systems on different vehicles and have been VERY happy with them. They run about $70 and include a 4.3 inch monitor ( not sure if you want to mess with an additional monitor) ,but the camera may plug into yours. They are universal, so should work on any vehicle. Hope this helps. Good luck!
donald  Jul 28, 2014

It has adhesive tape or you can screw it on I d
deacon  Jul 28, 2014

This will depend largely on your vehicle. Since that is the case, please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will be the best fit for your Suburban.

I have the camera but I am beig told that the power supply unit that comes with it is not putting out enough power to power the camera. Is there anyway to fix this without having to send the camera back in?
