About the JL Audio RBC-1

Buck Pomerantz
JL Audio amplifiers feature bass-boost circuitry to help you adjust low-frequency impact in your vehicle. The RBC-1 wired remote bass control works with all of JL Audio's A-Series, G-Series, RD Series, mono JX-Series, and most Slash v2 amps. You can mount the RBC-1 controller in the front of your vehicle and dial in the amount of bass you want from the driver's seat — mounting instructions, hardware, and a 18' cable are included.

Connect the RBC-1 to your amp, and it converts the amp's selectable bass boost (0 or 6 dB) to a variable boost (0 to 12 dB). With the Slash v2 amps, the RBC-1 takes the place of the amp's boost knob, allowing you to adjust your bass boost from 0 to 15 dB. With RD Series and JX-Series mono amps, the RBC-1 controls the amp's subwoofer level, from full mute to full volume.

Greetings Luis. Thank you for your question. No sir. What you would need is the HD-RLC. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_136HDRLC/JL-Audio-HD-RLC.html

Q
I purchased this knob and the adhesive stock for over a year, but now it won't stick any longer. Do I have to buy a new bass knob? Or is there a way to make it stick again?
steve  Jul 07, 2023
1 answer
A
If we're referring to adhesive that was used to mount the knob, the easiest solution it to buy some quality double-sided tape, or a similar adhesive product, so that you may reaffix the knob.

M800/8v2 amp will be work ?
krzysztof  Apr 24, 2023

Q
Will this work on a jl slash v1 500/1?
khayyam  Mar 24, 2023
1 answer
A
This can adjust Bass Level on Slash series V2 and V3 amplifiers. It can adjust the Bass EQ of original Slash series amplifiers, but this is not the same as adjusting Bass Level.

The knob comes off.I drilled a hole and inserted from the back ,put knob back on and it's done.

Q
Would this remote be compatable with a JBL Club A100 amp?
edward  Aug 06, 2021
2 answers
A
It depends on the plug that plugs into the amp
tony  Aug 11, 2021
A
We do not test cross brand compatibility of the remote level controllers and recommend getting a JBL controller for your amp. Typically, those come in the box with JBL amps and are not sold separately. We recommend contacting their support by calling 800-336-4525 to get one for your amp

Q
Is there a way to control 2 powered subwoofers with 1 RBC remote?
david  Apr 14, 2021
2 answers
A
It plugs directly into the amp, so if two subs are running off the same amp then it would work that way.
cameron  Apr 14, 2021
A
I believe the connection resembles a standard phone cable for the signal from the sub. One would think you could insert a splitter and connect each sub to it, and then the splitter into the RBC-1. However, not being an electrical engineer, I would probably reach out to JL Audio and ask them if this has been done before. Thanks.

Q
Will this work with a JL Audio Slash 500/1 V1 amp?
reginald  Apr 06, 2021
1 answer
A
Unsure but it works absolutely fantastic with my JL Audio poweredge TW1+. It's probably safe to assume that a JL audio quality amp will be compatible with a JL Audio remote bass controller, especially if the amp has subwoofer signals on it.

Q
Must I adjust the gain lower to compensate for the additional +15 dB range? Thank you.
michael  Feb 03, 2019
3 answers
A
The main reason we always use this is because it makes it very easy to add more bass when needed. Look at it as volume control for your bass
mike  Feb 09, 2019
A
Depending on the type of music and format of it you might want the bass higher on some songs and lower on others. I'd adjust the gain on a sine wave with the knob at half and that way you can get more or less if needed with the knob.Enter an answer to this question.

Q
I plugged in and installed this on my JX series amp. what was supposed to be easy has me baffled... as soon as i plug it into the amp I lose all sound from the sub. Am i just that dumb or is mine messed up somehow?
hunter  Sep 13, 2018

A
Did you ever figure out your problem? I'm having the exact same issue. Plug it in and no sound whatsoever out of the amp.
jennifer  Nov 22, 2018
A
I believe this will bypass the gain on the amp when plugged in so it'll immediately go from gain setting on the amp to gain setting on remote because in reality it's a remote gain control. Should be able to turn it up to as loud as it was before though.
scott  Sep 18, 2018
A
That is odd. It was a plug and play for me, worked right out of the box.

Q
Do I need this if I got a HD750 amp or can I use the JL Audio DRC-200 that I got to go with my FIX 86?
t-loc  Dec 12, 2017
1 answer
A
If you are installing the HD750 with the FIX 86, then you can use the DCR-200 to adjust the volume of the subwoofer through the FIX 86 interface. If you are not installing the FIX 86 with the HD750 amp, then you will need to get the HD-RLC level controller to use with the amp. Q
For the Jx series, what's the difference between using the rbc and the bass boost?
bryan  Jun 22, 2017
3 answers
A
Bass boost only boosts the frequency at 45Hz I believe. RBC adjusts the amp's entire gain.
keith  Jun 23, 2017
A
Hello, with the rbc I feel that it's much easier to control the amount of bass with the subs with all the different music we listen to.
kevin  Jun 23, 2017
A
Hey Brian. On the JX series amplifier the RBC-1 acts as a level control. To put it simply it adjusts our input sensitivity from the point to where it was already set (hopefully with an o-scope or DMM) and allows you to dial back the bass if need be or add a little extra kick. By the way bass boost is an excellent way to introduce clipping and unwanted distortion. I always recommend NEVER using a bass boost feature either on an amplifier or source unit. Good luck with your purchase.
hidy  Jun 23, 2017
Q
I need to install a JL amp RD900/5 with an AudioControl DQ-61 processor. The DQ-61 comes with its own control knob (ACR-3) that controls bass and more. I want to be able to adjust the bass for certain songs that may lack punch, i.e. some 80's metal/rock. But which would be the preferred option, using the ACR-3 (thus controlling the signal before amplification) or JL Audio RBC-1? Certainly not both, I would guess. Thanks.
william  Apr 29, 2017
3 answers
A
The AudioControl ACR-3 should give you the control you need. It takes time to get the DQ-61 set up but it gives you tremendous control. Good luck, and enjoy.
anthony  Apr 30, 2017
A
Anytime you can make your adjustments prior to amplification it is better. I would go with the ACR3
brian  Apr 29, 2017
A
I would place the AC3 control at at least 80% gain, fixed, them would only adjust bass volume from the JL audio knob Once the DQ controls are set to your liking, typically all at 70-80%gain, place masking tape over them so they do not move inadvertently- then it's all controlled by your head unit
catalin  Apr 29, 2017
Q
Will this work on a different amp if I change the cable? My amp uses a 3.5mm to phone jack cable for the bass knob but the controller is bulky. Can I just unplug my current bass knob and plug in this one since they both use phone jack connection at the knob?

A

ken  Feb 20, 2016
A
I can't know for sure but I suspect it would work. It seems like they're both similar and for similar purposes. If it didn't work, Crutchfield would likely accept the return.
jason  Feb 19, 2016
A
I tried on my Rockford Fosgate 500a2 using my Jl Bass knob and it increased the boost past the limits of my subwoofer so I think somehow regardless of using the same type phone cable they are different and I would recommend using the one that comes with your amplifier
carlos  Feb 19, 2016
A
As long as the wires are in line, it should work. Worst case scenario is that you'll need to crimp a new phone end on with the correct alignment. The knob is just a potentiometer so it's nothing very high tech.
joseph  Feb 19, 2016
Q
How long is the cable?
rock  Aug 30, 2015
4 answers
A
The permanent cable as shown in the picture is about 7" long. The removable cable that runs from the pictured device to the amp is just a standard phone cable. I don't recall if that is supplied, or how long it is.

Will this product work on a Slash 500/5 amp?
carlos  Nov 12, 2014

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Honestly not sure. We did not carry that amp, so we don't have a compatibility listing for it. Best bet would be to call JL Audio directly at 954-624-0113 to confirm compatibility. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Can you use 1 rbc knob to control 2 amps? Example: 2 500/1 jl amps using a phone splitter and controlling the bass on both.

Yes, the knob can work for two amps. You have to hook the knob to amp one and then use the preamps from amp one to amp two. Hope this helps.
frank  Jun 25, 2014
A
I imagine if u bought a y connection to connect the two... ie telephone or ethernet cable with enough pins and it would control both at the same time... Contact JL audio for more accurate support
brian e  Jun 24, 2014
A
I would not recommend splitting this parallel pair phone line, as its name suggests it's a parallel pair of 24 ga. conductors with little to no shielding effect. As you may understand low voltage signals in car audio are very conducive to propagating noise created by your cars charging system. Further splitting this barely shielded conductor could possibly invite that noise into your amplified system. Then there is the impedance matching of the rheostat that varies the pre -amp voltage of the amp, with a split conductor it is possible to allow feedback between amplifiers causing even more headache. I would not recommend using one RBC-1 for 2 amps. After all they don't call them RBC-2's.

I use this controller on 1 amp only. I will tell you that I love the added tuning I have with this control.
dale  Jun 23, 2014
A
Sorry, but I don't I know. I've only used 1 amb. Call Crutchfield or JL
gary j  Jun 23, 2014
A
Not shuer but it's worth a shot . The controler works well on one amp. I would think that if your trying to adjust two speakers on separate amps, it would be best to have two RBC knob controllers. That way it could be fine tuned. Or get a amp to control two subwoofer and one controler. The outher thing is the controler carries voltages, and not shure if sinding voltages to another amp will short out amp. Good luck with your project.
javier  Jun 23, 2014
A
I would like to say yes but I have not personally tested it but I think it will work for you so try it and let me know how it goes.
dillon  Jun 23, 2014
A
Yes you can control two amps with the single control. What you need is a rj11 phone splitter. The only catch is that the splitter must be a four wire and not a two wire dual line splitter.
