Scosche

Our take on the Scosche SLC4

So you're trying to connect an amplifier without speaker-level inputs to a car stereo that doesn't have preamp outputs? It can be done, but you'll need a line output converter to make it happen. The SLC4 from Scosche can handle up to four speaker-level inputs and four RCA outputs — enough for a 4-channel amp or a multi-amp setup.

Connect the speaker leads from your car stereo to the SLC4. It reduces the incoming speaker-level signals so that outgoing signals are compatible with the preamp inputs on your amplifier. You will then need to use two RCA patch cords (not included) to make the connections to your amp.

The SLC4 features adjustable gain settings on each channel, and it's compatible with any car stereo. Warranty: 90 days.

Features

Overview: This is a versatile adapter that allows for multiple applications. If your receiver doesn't have preamp outputs and you want to connect it to an amp that doesn't have speaker level inputs, this adapter can be used to convert you receiver's speaker level outputs into preamp outputs. With this adapter, you can hook either a 2-channel or 4-channel amplifier to this adapter, and not lose fader control. This adapter also allows you to add an aftermarket receiver to either a common ground audio system in your vehicle, or an audio system that has factory amplifiers (like many of the Premium, JBL, and Bose audio systems). There are gain controls for both the line outputs and the factory amp inputs. Which gain controls you use depends on your application. Note: There is a plastic screwdriver that is physically attached to the adapter, and must be broken off to use. It is used to adjust gain controls and screw down the speaker terminals.

Speaker-Level-to-Line Level Conversion: The adapter can convert car stereo speaker outputs to RCA outputs so an external 2 or 4 channel amplifier can be added to a car audio system. There are line output controls that allow you to adjust the output level going into your amplifier(s). The adapter can handle up to 80 watts of speaker level input.

Interface with Factory Amplified Systems: This adapter allows the matching and installation of an aftermarket receiver with most factory amplified systems like the Premium/JBL/Bose systems.

Subwoofer Application: The adapter will allow for the integration of a subwoofer or subwoofers to nearly any audio system. There are line output controls that you can use to adjust the output level going into your amplifier(s).

Common Ground Audio Systems: With this adapter, you can add an aftermarket receiver to a common ground system in your vehicle without having to run new speaker wires. There are factory amp gain controls that you can use to adjust the input levels.

Common Ground/Factory Amp/Line Out Switch: Depending on how you are using the adapter will depend on what position the switch will be in. If you are adding a new receiver to a common ground system, then the switch is put into the "Common Ground" position. If you are adding the receiver to a factory system that uses Premium, JBL, and or Bose, then the switch is put into the Factory Amp position. You can also add an external amp to a receiver that does not have line outputs; in this case the switch will be in the "Line Out" position. There are factory amp gain controls that you can use to adjust the input levels.

Great overall product, definately recommend to anyone installing to a factory head unit.

MADE LIFE SIMPLE AGAIN

Written By Z28guy, Munroe Falls, Ohio on Wednesday, September 21, 2011

This was just what the doctor ordered. We wanted to retain the factory amp but still use the aftermarket head unit we had. This made it possible to do both without cutting up the factory harness or trying to track down wires. A++

Works Great

Written By Buck, Michigan on Saturday, May 28, 2011

The SCOSHE Line convertor Works as stated. Hookup was easy and the staff at Cructhfield, Helpful as always. The biggest negative with this box is the plastic case it is housed in and really has no way to mount it. You basically have to Zip tie it where you want it.But It works great. If you have a stereo with speaker wire outputs and want to run them in an Amp via RCA jacks, this box is a must and reasonably priced. Thanks Crutchfield.

It does the job

Written By BartK, Bolingbrook, IL on Tuesday, January 25, 2011

This thing works, quite well too. The enclosure is however a bit on the flimsy
side and taking care to read other users' comments on the frail components, I
took care not too over torque anything. Use discretion, its a tiny screw not an
engine shaft nut. Does the job as a LoC.

No good

Written By Cincinnati Marine, Cincinnati on Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Tryed it in a 2000 celica and a 1997 Accord. Couldn't get my sub to do anything more
than move slightly.

Hooked the sub to a head unit in my 78 camaro that has rca jacks and it worked fine.
Judging by the reviews, your rolling the dice with this thing. I gave it 2
stars because hook up was easy.

Works like a charm just need to know what your doing

Written By carlos, Panorama City, CA on Saturday, December 25, 2010

Just installed this blue beauty, its true what some reviewers said About the feel of it being kinda cheap, but i hooked it up to my wifes 2000 civic and the sub kicks with ease. It didnt take long to figure how To connect it, just read the instructions and it should be easy, i had No problems connecting it, its true it doesnt have usable mounting Holes but with a little ingeniuty and zip ties it looks professional. Once again i repeat, read the instructions and it should be super Easy. I had a harder time routing cable than connecting this superb Gadget!

Waste of money

Written By CraigE, Portland, OR on Monday, September 20, 2010

This product is just what my review states... a waste of money. First of all it didn't work; or I guess I should say it functioned, barely. I tried to use it to tap into my rear factory speakers in my 2008 Legacy. It sent a signal to my amp but it was very weak even with the gain all the way up, there was very little volume and what volume it did have, sounded terribly muddled. A direct connection from my MP3 player to my amp proved my amp and sub to be operating just fine but this little piece of junk just didn't work, despite my troubleshooting it Even a call to Cruthfield tech support yielded no results. I gave up and just ordered an amp with speaker-level inputs and voila! it worked like a champ.

Not to mention it's not working properly or weak gain, (maybe I got a defective one but it's too late to return it now) but this item feel incredibly cheap. The plastic is very fragile. It's not durable. It fell off my speaker box (about 14 inches tall) on to our pergo floor and it busted in two! What kind of cheap nonsense is that? There are no mounting options for this either, leaving someone who wants a clean install to make it jimmy'd with zip ties or something else.

I should have listened to the negative reviews of this product, instead of believing the ones that said it worked.

Eh

Written By My_Fast, Philadelphia, PA on Monday, June 28, 2010

Didn't get it to work in my 2008.5 VW GTI. So I gave up and gave in and just bought a
new headunit anyways with the outputs I need. Could have been easily been user
error... buuuut I wouldn't bet on it.
It feels ok enough, I didn't expect much.
