Noise-canceling technology gives you peace and quiet
Sennheiser's patented NoiseGard™ technology significantly reduces extraneous sounds, such as engine roar, wind noise, and the conversation of surrounding passengers. Tiny microphones in the headphones pick up the sounds of your environment. Advanced circuitry then creates a signal that "cancels out" much of this external noise without affecting your music or movie soundtrack.

Built with the traveler in mind, the PXC 250-II's padded earcups and headband stay comfortable for hours on end. The headphones come with a stereo mini plug and an airline adapter for use during in-flight movies. Plus, they fold up into a compact package the size of a pair of eyeglasses, and come with a carry pouch for easy transport.

Q
How does it work in an ipod?, or phone I notice the Ohms (impedance) is higher than other headsets I guesse for aircraft. In a portable device does the sound and volume suffer?

I cannot answer this directly, as these headphones were a gift to my niece. However, I have Sennheiser PXC 450 noise cancelling headphones and use them with my iPad and iPhone while travelling. The PXC 450 is an over-the-ear design rather than an on-the-ear design. The PXC 450 actually has a higher impedance than the PXC 250-II, and they work great with both as well as with my SanDisc Sansa MP3 player, laptop and portable DVD player. Remember that these are powered headphones - they use a AAA battery and have a volume control. I would not expect any issues. Sennheiser has been making headphones for a very, very long time. Much longer than Bose or any of the ear bud manufacturer's. They know what they are doing!

Dave A: I have really enjoyed these headphones with the exception of wearing them for more than a 6 hour period. They can start to press against the cartilage of your ear. but to answer your questions: 1. Yes it works with an iPod. 2. Yes it works with a iPhone (But if you use a "Lifecase" like I do. . . you must first install the headphone adapter as it will not seat properly and not connect- LifeCase is water-resistant with a screw in water seal). 2b) The sound is boosted when you turn on the noise canceling features. . . nothing suffers. When on aircraft, the headphones work very well, you can hear significant difference when the Noise Dampening feature is engaged. The other nice feature is you do not have to have the noise dampening feature switched on, to listen to have great quality sound from your headphones. (I purchased Bose Noise Canceling Headphones for my wife in the same purchase, with hers, she must have the power (Rechargeable battery) to hear things from the headphones). In the past I swore by the Shure ear buds (That seat deeply in your ear canal - the sound was amazing), until too many airlines jumped on the PA increasing the average volume from 80 to 110 dB. With those, you did not need noise canceling, but risked everything to a loud mouth, gotta hear themselves speak, flight attendant. Not much hearing damage after I switched to over the ear headphones. I find headphones like these are great at dampening sound even before noise canceling. The music is great with or without noise canceling, and when you have the NC on. . . You really do experience a more pleasant flight, train or car ride. These are a great value and good quality, a nice first purchase if you are just experimenting with noise canceling technologies or just want something better than regular headphones.

I happen to like these a lot. Plenty of volume with both my IPad and IPhone. The noise cancellation is very good, not as good as the Bose, but fine for me. Ditto the sound quality. And it has the added advantage of working even without a battery7 (without noise cancellation of course). With the Bose if the battery dies, it will not work. They are also light, comfortable and far more compact than the Bose. JS
