Or, you can switch control over to your passengers so they can select tunes with the iPod's controls.

Or, you can switch control over to your passengers so they can select tunes with the iPod's controls.

Find your digital music files fast
Sony's Zappin™ mode plays short music clips until you find the tune you want, while Jump Mode lets you fast forward rapidly through your playlists. Of course, the CDX-GT930Ui will also play music from a thumb drive, portable hard drive, or any other USB-equipped source, and a rear auxiliary input lets you connect other compatible audio sources. Load up a CD with your favorite MP3, WMA, and AAC files, and you've got tunes to spare for your next journey.

Custom sound-shaping
Sony's Digital Music Plus circuitry restores the details lost to compression, so you'll enjoy the full range of frequencies and dynamics from your digital music. You can also customize your sound with the 3-band parametric equalizer and seven preset tone curves.

Building a system
You can add a satellite radio tuner to get the fine programming and commercial-free music available from SIRIUS or XM. If you prefer AM/FM radio, connect an HD Radio® tuner for static-free reception and expanded programming from participating stations. Three sets of preamp outputs let you add external amplifiers or a powered subwoofer, while built-in high- and low-pass filters ensure you send your speakers and subs only the frequencies they're best equipped to handle.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use this adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Sony stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Sony, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

    Display Features

Fluorescent Display: The unit features a large, 4-line full-motion fluorescent display. The dot-matrix text is blue with your choice of backgrounds: 3 spectrum analyzer displays, 3 static wallpapers, a full-motion movie, or combinations of displays that rotate through all categories. In addition, the button illumination can be changed from blue to red or green.

Auto Scroll: This feature allows long displayed items to scroll automatically across the display when the track is changed on a disc.

Dimmer: You can manually dim the display at night, if desired. You can operate the display dimmer automatically, when the vehicle's lights are turned on, or manually. If the dimmer is set to automatic, the orange/white wire in the power harness must be connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit in order to properly work.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: Pressing the Off button once will turn off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remain on. This makes the clock display and face/button illumination "Keyed" instead of "Unit On" only. To turn the unit off completely, you must press the Off button for two seconds.

Auto Off: When installing in a vehicle without an accessory power wire at the radio location, you can set the unit to turn off all lighting a set amount of time after you turn the power off. The Auto Off feature can be set to 30 seconds, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or No.

    Audio Section

EQ 3 Parametric: You may select one of the following EQ presets: Xplod, Vocal, Edge, Cruise, Space, Gravity, Custom or Off (flat). For the Custom setting you can make your own equalizer settings. You can set the center frequency and bandwidth (Q) for the following bands: Low (60Hz or 100 Hz, Q: 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, or 2.0), Mid (500 Hz or 1 kHz, Q: 0.75, 1.0, 1.25, or 1.5), and High (10 kHz or 12.5 kHz, Q: 0.75 or 1.25). The volume levels of each band is adjustable from +10 dB to -10 dB in 1 dB increments.

DM+ Advanced: The unit features Digital Music Plus Advanced (DM+ Advanced) which uses sound enhancement technologies to improve the sound of digitally compressed audio, such as MP3, WMA, and AAC files from your iPod or USB device. You can turn the feature off/off in the menu as desired.

Dynamic Soundstage Organizer (DSO): The GT930UI features the Dynamic Soundstage Organizer, which uses proprietary circuitry to virtually raise the soundstage and spread it wider across the dash. This is especially helpful if your vehicle has speakers mounted low in the door panels. There are three levels of DSO, each with an increasing amount of effect.

Preamp Outputs: The CDX-GT930UI contains three pairs of 4-volt RCA preamp outputs - front and rear pairs, plus another pair on a 10" pigtail for subwoofer operation. The subwoofer output is non-fading with a low pass filter with a selectable cut-off frequency of 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 140Hz, 160Hz, or Off. You can adjust the subwoofer preamp output's volume level independently from the head unit's volume control from -10 to +10 in 1dB increments.

High Pass Filter: The Sony CDX-GT930UI features a High Pass Filter which allows you to select the cutoff frequency for the front and rear speakers and preamp outputs from 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 140Hz, or 160 Hz. You can set the cutoff frequency for the front and rear channels independently or all together.

    Radio Functions

    AM/FM Tuner: The CDX-GT930UI features a built-in AM/FM digital tuner.

Tuning Features: The built-in AM/FM tuner offers the following features: Auto/Manual tuning, Preset tuning (6 presets each in 5 bands), Best Tuning Memory, Local Seek Mode, and Mono Mode.

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional Satellite Radio receiver to this receiver:

    • SIRIUS Satellite Radio: To receive SIRIUS Satellite Radio, you can connect the optional SCC1 SiriusConnect Vehicle Tuner (607SCC1) and the optional SNYSC1 Sony interface module (607SNYSC1) - package number 700SIRSONY, sold separately.

Note: A subscription is also required to receive satellite radio programming from SIRIUS or XM.

HD Radio Ready: The CDX-GT930UI is compatible with Sony's optional XT-100HD add-on HD Tuner (158XT100HD, sold separately) through its UniLink Bus connection. HD Radio technology, where available, offers higher quality sound than conventional analog broadcasts and receives text data. HD Radio provides FM broadcasts that are equal to CD sound quality and AM broadcasts that are as good as analog FM stereo broadcasts. HD Radio also provides a variety of data, including station name, song title, artist name, album name, etc. Once connected, all AM and FM broadcasts are received by the XT-100HD. HD appears as an additional source, with five preset banks; HD1 (FM1), HD2 (FM2), HD3 (FM3), HD4 (AM1), and HD5 (AM2). In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

    Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The CD receiver will play CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RW discs. The head unit also supports CD Text. The receiver will also play MP3, WMA, and AAC files stored on a CD-R or CD-RW.

Quick-BrowZer: The unit's Quick-BrowZer feature allow you to search for a track on a CD or USB player/memory. When there are many items in one category, you can search for the desired track quickly by using the Jump function which skips in steps of 10% of the total tracks listed in the current folder. Note: When entering the Quick-BrowZer mode, the repeat/shuffle setting is canceled.

Zappin': You can search for a track on a CD or USB player/memory through the Zappin' feature. When the Zappin' feature is engaged, the unit will play a short sample of the track (about 1 minute into the track), then skip to the next track. You can select the length of the sample: 6 seconds, 9 seconds, or 30 seconds.

Eject: The CD disc can be ejected with the power off. The CD player will automatically reinsert the disc if it's ejected but not removed for 15 seconds or more.

Mounting Angle: For proper CD playback, this unit must be mounted between 0 (horizontal) and 45 degrees.

    USB/iPod/Aux Connection

USB Input: The receiver is equipped with a Type-A USB input for plugging in a USB Mass Storage Class device, or a compatible USB audio player. The head unit can play music files stored on the USB device in MP3, WMA, or AAC formats. The head unit can recognize up to 128 folders with up to 512 tracks each when connected to a USB Mass Storage Device.

USB 1-Wire iPod Control: USB 1-Wire for iPod lets you directly connect, charge, and control select iPods via the USB jack on the rear of the unit, as well as view metadata like song title and artist on the front display. The GT930UI has a rear-panel USB port which allows you to connect your iPod via a single cable (iPod dock connector-to-USB--cable not included with the head unit). The head unit will allow audio playback, control, and charging of your connected iPod. When the head unit is placed in the Passenger Control mode, you can control the iPod directly using the "click-wheel" or "touch-screen" on the iPod.
