Our take on the Sony LF-V30 LocationFree® Base Station

Watch your favorite TV shows remotely — whether you're in a different room in your home or a hotel room across the country. The Sony LF-V30 LocationFree Base Station connects to your home audio/video components and lets you access them via the Internet, using a PC or Sony PSP® portable gaming system.

Control your home audio/video gear via the Internet
The LF-V30 connects to your wired or wireless home network, and comes with software for your computer or laptop. Two audio/video outputs let you hook up your TV and DVR or cable box. The 'V30 sends commands to your audio/video gear over the Internet, using a virtual remote on your monitor. Change the channel on your TV or access DVR programs — it's as easy as if you were sitting in your living room with an actual remote. You can even program your DVR to record future shows, in case you forget to do so before heading out on a business trip or vacation.

View more than your favorite TV programs
The 'V30 is compatible with many types of audio/video components. Connect your DVD changer, and you'll be able to access your favorite movies from the road. Or hook up your camcorder and view a live feed of what's going on at home — you'll be able to check on your pets while you vacation across the country.

Features

Overview: The LF-V30 LocationFree Base Station is used to stream video and audio from your existing home theater system to your computer (or other compatible device), anywhere you have access to the internet. The communication is two-way so you can also control the home components from your remote location.

Compatibility: The LocationFree Base Station can stream your home entertainment to a variety of client devices; Windows based desktops or notebooks, Sony PSP, or Windows Mobile pocket PC.

Stream at Home: The LF-V30 allows you to carry your TV throughout the house. With built-in 802.11 a/b/g wireless LAN technologies, the base station streams your TV or DVR content throughout your home, up to 100 feet.

Stream away from Home: The base station connects to your source device(s) and utilizes your home internet connection to stream your entertainment for you to access elsewhere on a compatible client device. Simply connect to the internet on your compatible device and launch the LocationFree player for full access to any device connected to your LocationFree Base Station.

Control: A programmable version of your home remote is displayed on-screen, giving you remote control of your home system. Commands are sent to the source components through the included IR blaster. The base station has a two IR outputs, so a second blaster can be added.

Sources:
Local TV: Tune in the local TV stations on your cable box, satellite receiver, or VCR and watch them on your client device. As long as you have access to a broadband internet connection, you can be half way around the world and still watch and control your home system.

DVR: Like the cable box, you can watch and control content from your DVR from another location.

Other Devices: You can also connect you VCR, DVD player, or any other device with composite, component, or S-video; even a camcorder for home monitoring.

LAN Connection: The LF-V30 can be hardwired to your network, or connect wirelessly. If hardwired, the base station can serve as a wireless access point, creating a wireless network for other devices.

PSP Portable TV: PSP systems come pre-installed with the LocationFree software, making it easy for you to watch your home TV, DVR, or DVD player on-the-go. With a LocationFree Base Station transmitting your home TV over the internet, you can simply connect to the internet with your PSP system and access your home TV and DVR, which is being broadcast to you from your home internet connection.
