Overview: The Sony WAHT-SA10 Wireless Surround Amplifier Kit gives you a way to place the rear speakers of select S-AIR compatible Sony Home Theater Systems in the back of your room without having to run wires from your Sony integrated DVD/CD receiver. The kit includes a 2-channel amplifier (TA-SA100WR) and a wireless transceiver (EZW-RT10). The WAHT-SA10 can be used to power your surround speakers in a 5.1 channel or your surround back speakers in a 7.1 channel configuration.

2.4GHz Wireless Surround: The supplied wireless transceiver plugs into the back of the TA-S100WR while another wireless transceiver (not supplied or supplied with your Sony receiver) plugs into the back of your compatible Sony S-AIR integrated DVD/CD receiver. Your Sony S-AIR compatible receiver will then be able to wirelessly transfer its rear audio signal to the TA-SA100WR surround amplifier by using a wireless 2.4GHz frequency connection.

Speaker Connections: The TA-SA100WR surround amplifier has proprietary speaker terminals that match the speaker wires supplied with your compatible Sony home theater system. Instead of having to run wire all the way back your Sony receiver in the front of the room, you need only run speaker wire from the rear surround amplifier to your rear mounted speakers. The TA-SA100WR must be plugged into an AC outlet and speaker wires run from the surround amplifier to your Sony system's rear speakers.

Amplifier Rating: The surround amplifier is rated at 143 watts x 2-channel in 3-ohm at 1kHz with 10% THD or 50 watts x 2-channel in 3-ohm at 120-20khz with 0.7% THD.

Headphone Output: The TA-SA100WR features a front-panel 3.5mm headphone jack which allows you to listen to your Sony Home Theater System through a pair of headphones. When you connect headphone to the surround amplifier, neither the surround amplifier nor the S-AIR main unit outputs sound from the system's speakers.

Ridiculous Product for the 21st Century

Written By Eric, Northeast US on Sunday, January 02, 2011

This unit might be acceptable if this were the 1970s.

The receiver unit is huge and heavy, shaped like a giant foot long brick.

The sound to the remote speakers cuts out for 3-10 seconds anywhere from 2 to 5x
per hour of use. I contacted Sony support, and they told me to put the receiver
in line of sight with the transmitter. Did it, but it still cuts out. Besides,
if I want wireless speakers, why should I have to have a huge black brick out in
the open to receive the signal?

Also, forget using headphones. The receiver/brick has a headphone port which
cuts sound to all external speakers, which is great for night use when you don't
want anyone disturbed. On the downside, though, the headphone wearer won't be
disturbed by any sound, either, due to the signal to the unit being out for 20
seconds or so every minute or so. An error code appears on the main unit, but I
can find no reference to it anywhere (the error code contains DMC, if I recall).
Needless to say, the unit is useless for headphone use due to the constant loss
of connection. Sony support was useless with this problem (shock).

In all, Sony should be embarrassed with their wireless speaker delivery design.
Heavy, sizeable units to transmit sound signals is ridiculous.

This item is now discontinued, but Sony should discontinue their entire S-AIR line.
