Features
Overview: The WMVC100 is a
waterproof, in-wall, stereo volume control that connects between the MVC HUB4 speaker hub output and a pair
of speakers. Premium-quality parts and construction ensure high-fidelity sound
with flat frequency response and 100 watts continuous power
handling.
12-Position Volume: The 12-step control
knob offers pop-free volume adjustment with maximum attenuation greater than 48
dB.
Autoformers:
To assure minimal dissipation of internal power with virtually no power wasted
as heat, autoformers are used instead of L-pads as the volume-controlling
element.
Impedance Magnifying Circuit: The WMVC100
has additional autoformer windings that magnify the impedance of connected
speakers, still allowing all 12 steps of volume adjustment. You can magnify the
speakers' impedance by a factor of one, two, four, or eight, allowing you to
connect up to eight pair of speakers to a single amplifier or receiver (assuming
8Ω speakers and an amplifier with a minimum impedance rating of 8Ω).
Muting Circuit: A relay is opened and
sound is totally muted at the press of the button below the volume knob. The
programmable automatic muting circuit keeps music from playing in specific
locations when you turn on your audio/video system. Note:
Because the muting circuit requires 12 volts DC to operate, the unit must be connected to power and ground with item 190MVCHUB4
(or some other speaker level distribution system with 12 volt output).
Speaker Connectors: Removable, screwless speaker connectors make installation quick and secure. Each
connector can accept up to 14-gauge wire.
Isolated Grounds: Isolated left and
right-channel grounds ensure safety with any amplifier.
Impedance Compatibility: The WMVC100
can
be used with 4Ω, 6Ω, and 8Ω speaker systems.
Installation
Considerations
Mounting Location: The mounting depth of
the WMVC100 is 2-9/16". When installed, the unit extends 2-1/16" behind the
sheetrock (assuming 1/2" sheetrock). For installation use a standard 18 cubic
inch (or larger) junction box. It should not be installed into a junction box
with 110 volt devices (light switches, dimmers, etc). Speaker wire can act as an
antenna for electrical noise and locating speaker wire too close to a light
switch or dimmer may cause the speakers to emit a popping or buzzing sound.
Speaker Wire: The speaker connectors will accept
stranded copper wire up to 14-gauge. Niles recommends 16-gauge for wire runs
under 80 feet and 14-gauge for 80 feet or more. Larger wire is not
recommended as it will not fit into the connectors. Solid-core, aluminum, or Romex wire is not recommended. Most states require in-wall speaker
wire to have a specific CL fire rating.
Required Tools: To install the WMVC100,
you will need a flat head screwdriver and wire stripper.
