Kicker

Our take on the Kicker KX2

Kicker's KX2 electronic crossover is designed for 2-way systems (in which highs and lows are amplified separately). You can adjust the high- and low-pass crossovers from 40 to 300 Hz (18 dB per octave) to maximize the performance of your separate components. The crossover accepts both preamp- and speaker-level inputs, and output can be adjusted up to 5 volts for low system noise.

Important Note: This unit has no built-in amplifier — must be used in conjunction with one or more external amplifiers.

Details:

  • speaker- and preamp-level inputs
  • 2 pairs of outputs (lows/highs)
  • level controls
  • low-pass output: variable 40-300 Hz (18 dB per octave)
  • high-pass output: variable 40-300 Hz (18 dB per octave)
  • signal-to-noise ratio 110 dB
  • 5-3/4"W x 1-1/4"H x 9"D
  • 1-year warranty

Works like it should

Written By Jeff, St. George Utah on Monday, August 08, 2011

I added this to replace stock rear deck speakers in an 2001 Audi A4. With the high level inputs and seperate gain controls this split the signal for the amp for the rear deck speakers and also a powered sub I put in the trunk.

Like I said, It works like it should.

Solid Crossover

Written By Jay, Wisconsin on Friday, August 22, 2008

I bought this unit to use in a simple, medium powered system where my amp did not have built in crossover. This unit has a solid chassis and the controls feel good, not cheap. Plenty of gain is available from the hi and sub outputs.

Pros: Good build quality for the most part, no noticeable addition of system noise or altered frequency response, great adjustability, good specifications.

Cons: Somewhat flimsy terminals for power and ground.

I'd recommend this unit if you are looking for a simple crossover.

Very good, overlooked product

Written By Michael, Akron, OH on Friday, July 04, 2008

I've been building systems in my cars since the 80's. One of the problems
was getting noise, (alternators, hissing) in the system. There are
many "patch fixes" for this problem, but that's about it. Because the Kicker
crossover has up to 5V outputs, this solves the problem. I have a system
with a Kicker sub and Infinity Reference speakers. Because my amp is
rated at the rms current for the Infinity's (and some Infinity Ref. tweeters I
bought before they went to all 2 ohm component systems) I can turn the
outputs all the way up and have absolutely no noise whatsoever in my
system. I can also set the output at 60 Htz. and get the most mid-range
out of the full range speakers. This is a definite must buy if you like your
system to be sounding it's best. I run the low pass to an Alpine M450
mono amp/Kicker 12" enclosed sub, and again, the control over the
frequencies is fantastic. No noise at all. This is a way better buy than an
eq. As they say, "set it and foget it"

Many in-dash receivers include frequency filters that can steer deep bass notes away from your car's "full-range" speakers, which really aren't capable of handling deep bass...
