Our take on the Kicker iKICK IK501

Get hard-hitting sound from your iPod

Let the Kicker iK501 crank out the tunes from your iPod or iPhone. The system's stereo speakers use 40 watts of total power and separate woofers and tweeters to slam out big, brawny sound. And the six-inch square passive radiator in the back reinforces low frequencies to give the bass real punch.

Kicker iKick IK501
Kicker iKick IK501 back

Grab the provided remote to control the system and operate basic functions on your iPod, such as play, pause, and track skip. Use the iK501's auxiliary input to hook up another audio source, such as a portable CD player or MP3 player. The system's composite video output lets you connect the iK501 to a TV and enjoy your iPod's videos "on the big screen."

And with the Kicker ZKPC1222 12-volt power converter, it's easy to keep the music going in your car or boat.

Overview: The Kicker iK501 is a digital stereo audio system designed specifically for use with the Apple iPod or iPhone. It has a standard iPod dock connector in the front, and a variety of dock adapters to fit select iPod and iPhone models. Older non-dockable iPods and other music sources can be connected to the system through a 3.5mm mini-jack auxiliary input. Speaker System: The iK501 is equipped with two 2-way speakers and a square passive radiator. It features dual 5" full-range Kicker drivers, and 3/4" silk dome tweeters. On the back of the unit is a 6" square passive radiator to add a punchy low frequency response.

Amplifier: The 2-way speakers are driven by a powerful 20 watts per channel stereo amplifier. Digital signal processing allows you to adjust the audio to suit your tastes. You can independently adjust the bass and treble from -9 to +9, using the front panel's sole rotary control or the supplied remote control.

iPod Dock: The iK501 features an integrated dock and comes supplied with five iPod dock adapter inserts. The iK501 supports audio playback, remote control, and charging of select iPods and iPhones. Sounds great! Plenty of power!

Written By Mark C, Tennessee on Saturday, February 11, 2012

The Kicker iKick sounds huge, easily filling large rooms with high quality sounds. The many positive reviews on this item are not overstated. I use it portable with my mp3 player or Blackberry, and at home it stays connected to my big screen and works great for concerts and movies.

Form factor, Sound, Simplicity

Kicker 501 Rocks

Written By Mark R., Bowling Green, OH on Saturday, February 04, 2012

I purchased this device for our kitchen so my spouse and son could hook up their iPods and Jam. The bass is very good and overall sound quality good. It's tough to get tight bass out of a small package at this price point, but the 501 does a nice job. As with most digital players, if the source is over-compressed, this player will eccentuate that compression. I have not listened to it with an uncompressed source yet, but suspect the device will faithfully reproduce the material.
Pros:
Price, quality of sound! Bass
Cons:
Footprint

KICKER IK501

Written By All Texas, Angleton, Texas on Thursday, February 02, 2012

I could not ask for this product to work any better. Very satisfied with the sound quality, ability to adjust Bass & Treble. Sounds as good as the Bose I was considering. If a person is not satisfied with this player then they are just too hard to satisfy. Pleasure to deal with Crutchfield.
Pros:
Sound is great & Bass & Treble adjustment & remote controlled.

Great Sound at a Great Price

Written By soliver, Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, January 24, 2012

So far I am enjoying listening to my I-pod on this speaker system. The sound is great at any volume. The only downside I have found (and there may be a way around it, I just haven't found it yet)is that I can not listen to the radio through the I-pod when it is docked, so I have to settle for whatever is uploaded to the I-pod. The Kicker iKICK IK501 may be a bit larger than some of the other products on the market, but it is light enough to move around and you can't really beat the price for the quality of music you get. The Crutchfield staff was also very helpful in answering our questions prior to our purchase. We are completely satisfied with our purchase!

Awesome

Written By KoryR, New Hampshire on Tuesday, December 06, 2011

I have owned this dock for about 6 months now. Nothing but beautiful sound at every volume for every type of music I listen to. Bass is quite nice from such a small stereo system. I have used a variety of devices on it: a few different Ipod generations, and through the auxiliary have used various phones and laptops. Every time it works perfect! Crank the volume and you will be blown away by the quality from this small set up.

Only issue is the size, it is a large and heavy unit for an Ipod Dock, this is probably due to the large speakers and mini sub woofer. If you want a small dock, this isn't it. If you want great sound...look no further.
Pros:
Sound quality, bass, versatility
Cons:
Size

Awesome For Pool/Party!

Written By dxeplt1, SC on Tuesday, August 16, 2011

I have had this system two yrs. now. First purchase for this type of setting, but found that it is awesome for all areas of the home. I take it from poolside to inside and prefer it over all my other systems. It has an awesome volume "carry" over my entire 4 acre backyard around pool, which is what it was initially purchased for, but have found its sound is great for wherever you want to take it. If you buy it you will not regret this purchase. Glad I did! Love Crutchfield! You can not go wrong with these guys!!!!!!!

WAY Better than Bose!

Written By Brad, NC on Saturday, July 16, 2011

I was looking for somethng to replace my old relinquished Bose Companion II speakers, for when I travel, and also wanted something I could hook my laptop or Blackberry in to for kitchen use. I had heard the Bose docks and was not impressed so I decided to try the iKick. At first I was a bit disappointed, I think due in part to the fact that I have Polk Audio in my living room and car and love them because of their warm, not too bright sound, and their kick due to high efficiency. So I took this unit on a weekend getaway and the more I trialed it, the more impressed I have become with it. Maybe it requires some break in, although not stated in the manual. Now I listen primarily to the iKick, and not my main system, at home. This thing is tight, good bass punch, very portable, and is way too loud for a hotel room, I must add. Love the remote and the blue display, the only thing I would add is a clock on the display. I hate ipods mainly because of the aac format and Itunes too. But the aux in is fine for my laptop or blackberry streaming Pandora. Highly recommend from a very discerning ear. The price is WELL worth it as well. Buy it, you won't be sorry you did!

pleasantly surprised

Written By craig, cincinnati, OH on Tuesday, July 12, 2011

I was looking into the Bose ipod system and, after reading the reviews and the recommendations for the kicker system, I decided to purchase this system. I have been blown away by the quality of the sound even at high volumes. I listen to a variety of music and the kicker has not yet disappointed. My only negative would be the remote--it becomes somewhat tedious navigating to a specific song, especially using the remote. Otherwise it is a great purchase!

Good Player

Written By Joe, Richboro, PA on Tuesday, June 28, 2011

As always, Crutchfield delivered the product timely. This unit sounds better than the Bose unit I recently returned. I was unhappy with the sound of the Bose. I am much happier with the sound of the IKICK 501. My only complaint is that when the unit was unplugged before turning it off, it would not turn back on. Perhaps it has an auto shutdown safety. I was thinking that I had to return the unit. I plugged it in about an hour later and it worked fine. I have not had any problems since by remembering to turn it off before unplugging.
