However, I wish it were a bit cheaper. For just a little bit more money, you can get a new head unit that has USB and AUX connections. On the brighter side of things, this does charge your iphone or ipod so you are saving $30 that you would have to spend on a charger if you just connected through AUX connection. I bought this product to use with a brand new iPhone 4. I did the installation myself and it took me about 30-45 minutes. It was very easy for my 2005 Toyota Camry. The main reason I got this product was because I just got an Iphone and wanted a way to listen to the music in my car. However my car only has the stock CD player and I didn't want to put a new head unit in it. I looked into just getting an FM transmitter but kept reading bad reviews and decided to steer clear of that route. This was my next option and I'm glad I took it. This product does really well for me. The station I use is 88.7 and it is completely shut off when I plug my iphone in. The sound is not cd quality but close to it. I can equate the sound quality to a perfectly clear local radio station. With this product, I don't have to spend time searching channels and I never have had to fight static yet. I also bought the open box item. It was perfect condition and worked fine as well as the same 1 year warranty. Got the product delivered to me in 2 days flat. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 1 out of 5 I can't recommend it anymore Written By Jeff B., Tavares, FL on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 I can no longer recommend the Alpine DPR-RDS1. The first one I got lasted a month and then stopped playing sound. The RDS still showed the song title but I had no audio. Crutchfield on the other hand is AWESOME. They exchanged it under warranty without a problem. So I installed my 2nd unit. The 2nd one worked great for 2 months and than.... "Silence". The same thing happened again. This time I had to go through Alpine to get it replaced. As soon as I get it my 3rd new unit back from them I plan on selling it and hopefully it works better in someone else's car. I've lost faith in the Alpine name after this purchase. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Alpine DPR-RDS1 Written By CK, Sandy, UT on Monday, November 01, 2010 The Alpine DPR-RDS1 does a nice job of connecting my Ipods to the factory stereo. Porsche with the Bose sound system uses a MOST fiber optic system which complicates the installation of replacement head units so this is a nice way to accomplish the Ipod connection. I did find, however, that my Classic 160GB Ipod does not provide the RDS information to the factory radio so I only see "ATTACHED" on the display. When I connect an Ipod Nano, the display shows the song titles. The literature does not specify which Ipods work with RDS and which do not. When placing the order, Crutchfield's personnel told me which antenna connectors were required which made the installation easy. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 I love it Written By Jeff B., Tavares, FL on Thursday, September 02, 2010 I love it. Hands down the best wired FM module for the Iphone. I was ready to drive off a bridge listening to regular radio w/ commercials but I wasn't ready to replace my whole factory stereo. This unit provided the perfect way of listening to my Iphone 4 through my factory stereo. It automatically switches on and off so there's no need to drill a hole and add a switch to your dash like other units. I had a radio station on each of the 4 frequencies it offers but this unit completely blocked the station to allow me to only hear my Iphone music and it doesn't affect other stations it's not programmed for. It plays my music, it charges my Iphone and it's made by a brand you can trust. Well worth all 5 stars. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 3 out of 5 Radio interference a problem Written By JohnR, Seattle, WA on Sunday, August 29, 2010 I installed the DPR-RDS1 in my first generation Toyota Prius. This was a bit difficult to do since Crutchfield did not have an installation guide for this vehicle and I have not done much of this type of thing before. I found information on the internet to remove the dashboard and I found a wiring diagram and installed it successfully. Crutchfield tech support was excellent as well. The sound is very good at times but unfortunately there is occasional static which ranges from mild to unacceptable on the only channel that seems to be free in Seattle (88.7). I have the impression that users in other communities do not have this problem. Overall, the DPR-RDS1 seems to be one of the few choices available for those who have a first generation Prius and who want to play an iPod over the stereo system. The factory radio in these cars cannot really be changed for an aftermarket device with an iPod or Aux connection. I will keep the device. I predict it will work better in rural areas so it should be nice when on road trips. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 3 out of 5 Works okay not great Written By John, Beaver Dam, WI on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 I have installed lots of radios and also rebuild cars from salvage so the installation was not the issue. The problem I am having is with radio interference on all four of the stations available on the unit.. 10 years ago I installed a CD changer in my Chrysler minivan that used the FM antenna in the same way and set it to one of the two stations available and NEVER had any static or interference. I am not happy with this product. I was hoping for a direct connect that sounded like the IPOD ready type but I got something not even as clear as the cigarette lighter types that cost $40. I love the products and support from Crutchfield but this product does not measure up. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Great way to add iPod to your factory stereo Written By dier, Milwaukee, WI on Thursday, June 17, 2010 Just like it says... iPod through your car stereo. It does it through a radio station, but because this unit actually sits between the radio and the antenna it is not susceptible to interferrence or noise from actual radio stations. After installing I drove from the Twin Cities to Milwaukee (5 hours) and not once did I even get a blip of noise or static. Installation in my 2006 Grand Caravan was a little confusing in that my wiring colors did not match what the Crutchfield instructions said exactly. A quick call to tech support (on a sunday morning) and they helped me figure which wires were the right ones to splice. If you are not an electronics person I would suggest getting some self tapping wire connectors or something that will make the splicing easy because this does require that you cut or tap into 3 different wires. I chose to strip the wires with a pocket knife and then lead solder them then tape them. Worked great. Again, A+ for Crutchfield for helping me pick the right product and coming through with the help I needed when I needed it.+ Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Works as advertised Written By Rodney, Aldan, PA on Monday, May 17, 2010 Alpine DPR-RDS1 does just what it supposed to do, allow you to connect your ipod/iphone to your factory stereo with no interference. The sound is as good as radio but slightly less than a CD. The hook-up was fairly simple, but you need to know or understand a little about wiring. This was the first time I attempted anything involving a car stereo. What I didn't know, Crutcfield explained in one brief phone call and an email with a picture of my cars radio harness. My install took about took less than an hour (nervous about connecting the wiring), so I really thought everything through before connecting everything. Following my advisors instructions and the supplied instructions allowed me to connect it correctly in one try. When my ipod came to life, all I could do was smile. I no longer need to woryy about Philly not having a jazz station. I now have my own jazz station with 985 songs(still growing) and it is commercial free. Sweeeet!!!!! One more thing. Crutchfield delivered in two days as usual and thats standard delivery. This company should give seminars for customer service. They are simply the best at what they do. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
