Our take on the Alpine MRP-M500

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

V-Power amplifiers deliver the sound quality that made Alpine famous. Highly efficient power supplies housed in sleek black casings guarantee that these amps stand out in performance and appearance. The thermal management system dissipates heat and saves power, so your V-Power amp will run reliably for years to come.

The Alpine MRP-M500 mono amplifier drives your subwoofer system with up to 500 watts RMS — enough to satisfy the hungriest bass setup. The low-pass filter puts you in command of the frequencies that reach your subs, while the variable bass boost is armed with plenty of low-end punch. A subsonic filter prevents wasted energy by eliminating ultra-low bass, putting all the power where you need it.

Preamp- and speaker-level inputs allow you to connect this amp in almost any vehicle. Let a V-Power amplifier transform the sound of your car's audio system.

Features

Power Supply: The MRP-M500 amplifier's power supply uses MOSFETs to convert DC battery voltage to the higher DC voltages needed for high power. It supplies positive and negative voltages around 0V, rather than around 6V as with conventional single-polarity power supplies. The result is higher power levels and a dynamic range wider by as much as 10dB.

Inputs: The amplifier offers both line-level and speaker-level inputs for 2 channels. The supplied speaker-level input harness allows you to connect this amplifier to a receiver without preamp outputs; aftermarket or factory. The speaker level inputs will accept the output from a high powered radio.

Terminal Covers: The amp comes with two plastic covers that protect and insulate the RCA, power, and speaker connections. Four supplied machine screws attach the covers to the amplifier.

Controls

Low Pass Filter: The amp is equipped with a 50-200Hz variable low-pass filter with a slope of 24dB/octave. This being a mono subwoofer amp, the crossover is always engaged.

Subsonic Filter: This amp utilizes a subsonic filter at 15Hz to eliminate super low frequencies that can rob power and damage speakers. The subsonic filter operates at all times, and cannot be turned off.

Bass EQ: The Bass EQ circuit provides a variable boost (0-12dB) at 50 Hz.

Connections

Left Side Of Amplifier:

  • GND (ground): gold-plated screw terminal, 0.33" wide
  • Battery: gold-plated screw terminal, 0.33" wide
  • Remote: gold-plated screw terminal, 0.33" wide
  • Speaker Output: gold-plated screw terminal, 0.33" wide

Note: Alpine recommends 8 gauge power and ground wire (minimum).

Right Side Of Amplifier:

  • Line Inputs: 1 pair of gold-plated stereo RCA jacks
  • Speaker Level Input: Molex plug input for supplied 4-pin harness

Excellent Amp-1999 Jeep TJ

Written By BryanB, Fort Wayne, IN on Monday, January 30, 2012

Great amp! Crutchfield staff was extremely helpful in putting together our system. I knew little to nothing about amp ratings, etc so I relied a lot on Crutchfields' suggestions. This amp delivers all and more. Paired with a Sony head unit and (2) polk 10" subs.
Pros:
Easy to hook-up and set up. Very powerful.
Cons:
None.

Awesome amp

Written By Shawn, NY on Saturday, January 28, 2012

This is the perfect mono amp! I have this amp powering a Alpine Type-R 10" dual 4 ohm wired at a 2 ohm load in a ported box and love it! The amp is a small size and very light which make mounting great. I have it mounted directly to my rear fender well in my hatch and it small size and light weight made it easy to mount and is very secure. Great power and excellent SQ! No dimming lights and able to use 8 gauge power wire which is easier to run. I listen to all kinds of music and it all sounds great but, when you want bass, you got it! I'm afraid my rear view mirror might fall off sometimes! Control all this with a alpine CDE-122 and you have sub adjustability from 0 to 15 so you have alot of control over sub plus all the other awesome features alpine units have. Wont't go wrong with this amp! Love Alpine!
Pros:
awesome!
Cons:
none

Alpine MRP-M500

Written By Chris, Webster Ma on Saturday, January 21, 2012

This amp worked great, for the first year or so.Beautiful sound, high power,Everything I wanted! After a year and a half,The amp just randomly shut down. I looked it up on the net and several others have this same issue. I seriously recommend checking heavy into this amp before buying.Everythign I own from alpine keeps dying.I have jl audio speakers that are still working great, But my alpines died within the first year.My cousin blew his alpine subwoofers,I blew my speakers and my amp just blew, another kid i know blew his type r subs out.My amp was wired 4 ohm pushing 300 watts so it definately wasn't pushing to hard nor did it show signs of overheating.I strongly suggest to stay away from alpine unless you want a nice looking paperweight.
Pros:
Good sound, lots of power and clarity.
Cons:
Unreliable! Has a record with many people for dying randomly for no reason.

Nice Power

Written By Tony.G, Ontario, CA on Sunday, January 08, 2012

I have owned the Alpine MRP-M500 for almost a year now,The bass sounds nice clean and controlled, good power output for the size of this amp also looks good cosmetically. Have it hooked up to a Kicker L3 12inch and it makes this sub slam big time! more than enough power and my car lights don't even dim. An all around great amp for the money.
Pros:
The clean sounding power output, Size, Looks good, Build quality.
Cons:
No issues so far.

Great amp

Written By Tim, New York on Sunday, October 16, 2011

I have had this amp in the back of my Chevy for a few weeks now and I am pleased thus far. The installation was easy and all the needed parts were there for me. I went with Crutchfield on the Alpine bass pack because of the price and because I trust the people there to not stear me in the wrong direction and they did not disapoint. All parts for the order (bass box, speakers and amp) were received in good order. The sound quality of the Alpine amp and 10 in Alpine subs are first rate. Great strong and clean bass with no distortion. This is not your teenage sons bass box. I expected high quality sound and not just noisy distorted bass and that is what I received.

Alpine MRP-M500

Written By John j, rhode island on Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Best amp alpine made until the MRX series. This amp does more than what its expected to do with no problems. I bought it and had it hooked to a 12" alpine type r at 2 ohms in Crutchfields's sound ordnance single ported box, and it would take anything i would throw at it. Unfortunately, the type r couldnt. And i melted it completely. RIP. But now i have 2 alpine type s's wired at 2 ohms going to it and they sound better than the type r did. So im happy with it all. Alpine FTW

I purchased this amp with 2, 10" speaker combo, it met and exceeded my expectations, especially for the price, the sound blended great with my existing equipment. I purchased an alpine deck so I decided to go all out with alpine. I highly recommend it, it will not disappoint.

Great Amp

Written By Shane, Boise, Id on Friday, July 22, 2011

I have this amp pushing a JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 8" Single 4ohm Low- profile Sub Enclosure (250 watts RMS). It sounds great and actually gives it all it can handle! Also, I have the subwoofer output level on my head unit turned down below 50% and it still hits hard.
