Sonos

Our take on the Sonos® Bridge (ZoneBridge 100)

Bridge and router

Connect a Sonos system to your home network

The Sonos Bridge is an easy, cost-effective way to expand your Sonos Music System. This tiny device connects to your computer, allowing you to access your digital music collection using your existing Sonos system. It takes the place of the Sonos player™ that would otherwise have to stay connected to your PC, freeing it up for use in another room.

When you'll need a Bridge

Sonos Bridge and players Sonos multi-room system

Improve the range of your Sonos system

The Bridge also lets you extend the range of your Sonos system. Just place a Bridge between a player in your system and the new area where you'd like to listen, such as a detached garage, for example. Or enjoy your PC music on your outdoor speakers — easily control a player located indoors from your pool on the far side of your yard.

Highlights:

  • communicates with other Bridges and players via proprietary Sonosnet™ wireless technology, or wired Ethernet connections
  • connects to your router, allowing players to access your digital music collection
  • automatic wireless setup
  • 2-port Ethernet switch
  • 5-7/16"W x 2-15/16"H x 5-3/8"D
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee
  • cannot play music — requires at least one Sonos ZonePlayer

Features

Overview: The Sonos ZoneBridge BR100 is used to connect a Sonos Digital Music System to your home network or to extend the wireless range of your existing Sonos Digital Music System. The Sonos ZoneBridge BR100 makes setting up your wireless Sonos system fast and easy by simply connecting the ZoneBridge to your router to instantly activate SonosNet (a secure wireless mesh network). All your Sonos ZonePlayers (ZP90 / ZP120, sold separately) and Controllers (CR200, sold separately) will work wirelessly and can be placed anywhere in your home. Although the ZoneBridge doesn't play music like the Sonos ZonePlayer, it's an effective way to extend the range of your Sonos system and expand the Controller's wireless coverage. It's also a way to connect other products to the Internet.

Note: This unit is not a stand-alone device and requires at least one Sonos ZonePlayer (ZP90 or ZP120, sold separartely)

Instant Wired/Wireless Setup: The ZoneBridge connects to your router using a standard Ethernet cable connection (2-port switch, 10/100Mbps, auto MDI/MDIX). Then, a simple press of the button located on top of the BR100 will start SonosNet, a secure AES encrypted, peer-to-peer wireless mesh network that enables other Sonos products to control and play music wirelessly.

System Flexibility: Once you've set up your ZoneBridge, you can easily add more component anytime. If your home has structured (built-in) wiring, you can make a wired connection to additional ZonePlayers or ZoneBridges. If you don't have structured wiring, you can take advantage of Sonos's built-in wireless technology. The ZoneBridge BR100 provides flexibility to place your ZonePlayers in any room of the house and connect them all wirelessly.

Ethernet Ports: The ZoneBridge has two Ethernet jacks on the back to bring standard Internet connectivity to your set-top box, PVR, PC, Game Console or NAS drive.

Range Expansion: You can stream music wirelessly to a remote location by placing a ZoneBridge in between your ZonePlayer in a remote location and the rest of your Sonos system. You can also improve Controller access to SonosNet by placing the ZoneBridge in areas where wireless coverage needs a boost. The ZoneBridge BR100 is ideal for retrofits, where your ZonePlayers might be in one location instead of being placed throughout your home.

Desktop Controller Software: Designed with a user interface to accommodate a large screen displays, the supplied Sonos Desktop Controller software for PC and Mac will guide you through both set up and music sharing. It offers all the same functionality as the Sonos Controller, but instead of being in the palm of your hand, it's all on your desktop. The software offers the following features.

  • Easy-to-use wizard for set up and music sharing. Set up music folders on your hard drive so they can be shared across all ZonePlayers.
  • Control of your Sonos Digital Music System from your desktop.
  • Add and edit your choice of Internet radio stations.

System Requirements: You computer will need to meet the following system requirements to connect the BR100 and use the supplied Sonos Desktop Controller software.

PC Software Requirements Mac Software Requirements
Operating System: Windows XP SP2 or higher, Windows Vista (500 MHz Pentium class processor or better) Operating System: OS X v10.4 or v10.5

Sonos® donated a wireless audio system to our local fire station. The firefighters looked forward to being able to play music from their smart phones as they did their chores, cooked and worked...

Worked Perfectly as a Range Extender

Crutchfield Customer Review

The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order.

After originally purchasing a Sonos system, it was evident that I needed to increase the signal to the farthest component which was 75 feet from the ZoneBridge. The Crutchfield rep was not certain that adding an additional off-network ZoneBridge between the distant component and the existing ZoneBridge would work to boost the signal or not. He suggested that I try and see what happens and if it was not successful I could return the item for a refund. I simply placed the new ZoneBridge between the existing ZoneBridge and component, powered it up and voila!!...problem fixed. The initial question as to if this was going to work or not centered around the fact that the 2nd ZoneBridge was not going to be on the network.

For those needing to boost their Sonos signal without having to add cat5 cable all over the house, this is the fix!

I am using the Zone Bridge with my wireless backup system. It is not only a wireless router to my computer, but I am using it to store my iTunes library. Consequently, I did not have to connect my computer to the Zone Bridge with an Ethernet Cable. I am able to maintain a wireless network. With that said, I love the SONOS system.

Phenomenal Wireless System

Written By Toby L., Davidsonville, MD on Monday, January 03, 2011

I did a lot of research on many components of the Sonos system for months before I finally decided to pull the trigger. I ordered a Zone Player 90 (hooked to my AVR in family room), an S-5 (for my fire pit) and of course a Zone Bridge which is the heart of the system. I expected this wireless system to be awesome when it was set up but it is so much more than that. Why I didn't buy this 3 years ago is beyond me. The set up for everything was really a piece of cake. I did run into a minor problem when trying to add my iTunes into the Sonos software of my PC. It turned out to be a glitch with my McAfee anti-virus software and was easily resolved directly with Sonos over the phone (they accessed my computer remotely and fixed the problem). Also downloaded the Sonos app on my iTouch which works seamlessly as the controller for my system. The customer service that Crutchfield and Sonos (direct) offers is just phenomenal. I now have an incredible wireless system in my home that I can build upon for years!! If you are wavering on this purchase, JUST BUY IT!

Tuve algunos problemas para que el sistema lo identifique. Pero cuando lo reconoció todo anduvo perfecto. Sonos da otra dimensión a la música en mi casa.
El Zone Bridge 100 extendió el alcance para un sector donde la señal era débil.
Excelente producto y sistema. Ampliamente recomendable!

Great Product

Written By ScottG, Cleveland on Wednesday, September 24, 2008

All of the sonos products are very easy to setup and to use. The zonebridge is no different. I purchased my system (BU130) with a zoneplayer 100 and a zoneplayer 80 and had to use the 80 to connect to my router. The zonebridge has allowed me to connect my zoneplayer 80 to the receiver which I had intended to use it for. For the price, it is definitely worth it to liberate another player from the internet connection.

Overall, the sonos system is extremely easy to use and works great for homes which in-wall systems are either not possible or simply too expensive. One nice feature is to centralize your music onto a Network Accessed Storage device which is compatable with sonos (See CNET for more info on this) and access your entire library from one location without having to leave a computer on. The free trials to rhapsody and other sites have really opened my eyes to the full potential of this system. This is definitely a great, well designed product.

Not much to say - took just a few minutes to set the bridge up with my ZP-90. Works perfectly and the small form factor makes it easy to hide. I love the Sonos system!
