HDAM (High Definition Amplifier
Module): Marantz uses HDAMs
instead of standard op-amps, rendering a more dynamic sound and less
susceptibility to radiated noise, heat, and vibration.
The HDAM SA2 used in the PM-15S1G is the same as those used in the flagship
PM-11S1 integrated amplifier. It includes an input buffer, linear control volume
and power buffer.
Current Feedback Phono
Equalizer: The phono equalizer in the PM-15S1G supports moving coil (MC)
and moving magnet (MM) cartridges
and incorporates a current feedback circuit.
Input Buffer: The input buffer
is composed of the HDAM SA2 in the input section, which enables signals from the
input source to be transmitted precisely to the linear control volume.
Linear Control Volume: The
PM-15S1G incorporates the Linear Control Volume system used in the PM-11S1,
which offers smooth volume control of ±0.5dB steps in a range of 0dB - 100dB.
Dual
Amplifier Structure: The PM-15S1G carries on the dual amplifier design
concepts of the PM-11S1. By using a two-amplifier system, the power buffer
uses high power to drive the speakers, therefore cutting the effects of Back EMF
from the speakers.
Power Transformers:
Newly developed Toroidal power transformers are used in the PM-15S1G because
they produce less vibration and magnetic leak than ordinary laminate design
transformers. Vibration reduction is achieved by using ring shaped core
materials, while rigorous controls are maintained on the manufacturing process.
Furthermore, the transformer periphery is covered with a ring core and short
ring to reduce magnetic flux leak.
LC Ripple Filter: An LC Ripple
Filter has been incorporated into the pre-amp power circuit, which provides
"clean" power to the pre-amp section. Clean power is achieved by cutting out
rectifier noise generated by the rectifier circuit, as well as external high
frequency noise.
Floating Control Bus System:
A Floating Control Bus System (FCBS) is a two way communication system that enables
you to connect up to four
PM-15S1Gs and control them simultaneously, This makes possible a number of applications,
including bi-amplifying
and multiple channel (surround, multi-channel SACD, etc) applications. A ground loop is not formed
between multiple connected PM-15S1Gs, therefore sound quality is not
adversely affected. When more than one PM-15S1G is used a different ID code
is assigned to each.
Bi-Amp Mode: You can connect
the PM-15S1G amplifier in a bi-amp configuration and separately drive the high
frequency and low frequency drivers in a speaker. Two PM-15S1Gs can be connected
via the Floating Control Bus System (FCBS) in a bi-amp mode that enables each to
work as a monaural integrated amplifier. The Operating Mode switch on the back
panel should be set to Bi-Amp when used in a bi-amp configuration.
Note: The speaker must support a bi-amp connection.
Display: The PM-15S1G
adopts an LCD to display input source and volume level. Compared to other
types of display panels, the LCD generates less drive noise and radiated
noise, hence the effect on sound quality is minimal. The input source and
volume level are displayed normally. The display and illumination can be turned
off if desired.
Remote Control: The RC-11PMS1
wireless remote will control the PM-15S1G and Marantz Super Audio CD players and
DVD players. When compatible Marantz components are connected via the D.BUS
connections (RCA control jacks), the components can be controlled by the
RC-11PMS1 remote through the IR eye on the amplifier.
Controls
Front Panel:
- Input Selector:
A rotary knob is used to select the input source for listening and recording.
- Display: Turns the display
and illumination lamp on and off. When off, display lights up for
approximately 2 seconds when the Volume knob or other control is operated.
- Tone: Turns the bass and
treble tone controls on and off. When on, the center of the button lights
blue
- Speakers: Turns the
speaker outputs on and off.
- ATT:
The attenuate button has three settings; -20 dB (factory setting), -40 dB, and
-infinity (mute).
- Record Out:
The record out button turns the signal output from the Recorder 1 and 2 jacks on and off.
- Phono MC:
The phono MC button switches the phono equalizer between moving coil and moving
magnet settings.
Rear Panel:
- Operating Mode Switch: You
can set the operation of the amplifier to Stereo or Bi-Amp. When Stereo is
selected, the amplifier set for use as an ordinary 2-channel stereo
amplifier. When switched to Bi-Amp, the amp is set for use with another
PM-15S1G amplifier with F.C.B.S. in a complete bi-amp system.
Connections
Rear Panel:
- Speakers:
The Left and Right speaker outputs are binding posts. They are not 5-way posts, but
will accept single banana plugs, pin connectors, spade lugs up to 0.575" wide,
and bare wire up to 11 gauge.
- Inputs:
Stereo RCA input jacks for CD, Line 1, and Line 2
- Recorder:
Stereo RCA input and output jacks for
Recorder 1 and Recorder 2
- Phono:
Stereo RCA jacks and phono ground screw. This phono input is compatible moving coil and moving magnet cartridges.
- Pre Out:
Stereo RCA outputs for feeding a powered subwoofer or another amplifier
- Floating Control Bus System:
The F.C.B.S. in and out are 3.5mm mini-jacks.
- Remote Control: RCA Input
and Output jacks for connecting components that are capable of remote
control such as a Marantz Super Audio CD or DVD player.
Front Panel:
- Headphone:
Standard 1/4" headphone jack
