About the AudioQuest Sydney

James Ralston
Let's face it: there are two schools of thought when it comes to audio cables. There's one camp that says "Cables don't matter!" and another that says "Yes they do — I've heard the difference!" AudioQuest believes that a cable's job is all about damage control and that a cable can definitely make a difference by limiting the harm dome to the original audio signal. With its Sydney cables, AudioQuest has gone to great lengths to minimize the harm, so the musicality of your original source can shine through. You might not expect a joined cable this thin and lightweight to deliver such great sound, but AudioQuest makes it happen with a combination of advanced materials and design techniques.

Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors

The perfect cable would be one that adds nothing to the original signal — no noise, no distortion. A cable's conductor material has a lot to do with how close it gets to this ideal. Sydney features conductors made from a material called "Perfect-Surface Copper+." PSC+ starts with ultra-pure copper, formed into solid (not stranded) conductors with an astonishingly smooth surface. The end result: clean, low-distortion signal transfer for transparent sound.

Advanced shielding, insulation, and cable geometry

An advanced 3-layer shielding system eliminates noise due to RFI (radio frequency interference) — the mortal enemy of good sound. A highly inert Polyethylene Air-Tube material provides insulation with minimal signal distortion and better sonic "focus." AudioQuest's double-balanced cable geometry separates the ground and shield paths for clean, quiet performance.

Cold-welded, direct silver-plated connectors

Sydney's connectors are made from high-purity "Purple Copper," which outperforms more common connector materials where it counts — in the listening room. They're also cold-welded, rather than soldered, which eliminates a common source of distortion found in many other audio cables. A direct silver-plating process further enhances signal transfer, for even better clarity.

This cable is equipped with dual RCA connectors at each end. Mini-to-mini and mini-to-RCA versions are also available.

Features

Sydney Series Stereo RCA Cable: The AudioQuest Sydney stereo RCA cable is terminated by a silver-plated male stereo RCA connectors on each end. The AudioQuest Sydney stereo RCA cable is available in the following lengths.

  • 0.6 meter (2')
  • 1 meter (3' 4")
  • 2 meter (6' 7")
  • 3 meter (10')

Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ Conductors (PSC+): Perfect-Surface Copper+ has an astonishingly smooth and pure surface. Proprietary metal-processing technology protects the wire's surface at every stage of drawing and fabrication. When high-purity low-oxide copper is kept as soft, pure and smooth as possible, it becomes a wonderfully low-distortion PSC+ conductor. PSC+ is manufactured by applying the same exceptional technology to an ultra-pure copper. The resulting sound quality is even more focused and simply less in the way. All of Sydney's conductors are solid. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat dirty, harsh sound. Solid conductors are fundamental toward achieving Sydney's very clean sound.

Polyethylene Air-Tube Insulation: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. All of Sydney's conductors use PE Air-Tube Insulation because air absorbs next to no energy, and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. PE Air-Tube Insulation causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.

Carbon-Based, 3-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy; preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Metal and Carbon-Loaded synthetics prevent most RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

Double-Balanced Asymmetrical Geometry: Purposely designed for single-ended applications, Double-Balanced Asymmetrical Geometry offers a relatively lower impedance on the ground for a richer, and more dynamic experience. While many single-ended cable designs use a single path for both the ground and the shield, Double-Balanced designs separate the two for cleaner, quieter performance.

Cold-Welded, Direct-Silver Pated Pure "Purple-Copper" Plugs: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion. Purple-Copper offers a cleaner, clearer sound over nickel-plated or OFHC metals commonly found in competing manufacturers' plugs. Direct-Silver Plating offers one more important step toward greater clarity and doing no harm to the signal.

Directional: Arrows on the connectors indicate the preferred signal path from the source component to the input.

Hello, all I can say about these rca cables is they are the best I have ever used or heard!!... I am using them with my OPPO 105...I use the OPPO for CDs and SACDs only.. The best sound I have ever heard from a cd or dvd player..as far a record players, that is not really my thing I prefer CDs... I have a lot of knowledge in music, but little to none in record players...Sorry I know that does not help you much.

I have the cables connecting amplifiers and speakers, preamplifier and amplifiers, and audio input sources to the preamplifier. My input sources do not include a turntable and to the best of my knowledge none of the devices ground in the way you describe.

Q
Is there a single, dual direction cable in the box with L/R terminators at both ends, or are there TWO dual direction cables in the box with L/R terminators at both ends? Oddly, I don't see the typical Crutchfield "What's in the box?" explanation for this product.

One stereo cable with dual RCA connectors at each end with a direction arrow for out on one end the other end has an arrow for in.

The Sidney cable has both channels in one cable body, with only the ends separate. It saves space and probaly cost, but you need to make sure the termibals in your source and in your amp are not too far apart.

It is a single cable with 2 (L/R) male RCA connectors at either end. The picture on Crutchfield's website shows both ends of the cable.

These are RCA component interconnects, while you rather want speaker cables. An interconnect is used to hook one component (say CD player) to another active component (say amplifier/receiver). Look at speaker cables instead, as you want to connect from your receiver to speakers.

Hello there from my findings I haven't herd a difference in theses cables blue jeans cable have some better budget options I've invested a lot in audioquest cables which I'm yet to hear a difference a power regenerator would be a better upgrade over expensive cables hope this helps enjoy the music .
