A rigid anodized aluminum woofer produces accurate bass and mid-bass. The pivoting tweeter lets you direct clean highs toward your favorite listening spot, for a broad soundstage with well-defined imaging. And tweeter and mid-bass level switches let you tailor the sound to suit your personal taste and room's acoustics.

Ready, aim, music!

Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. The pivoting Tractrix® horn tweeter lets you direct clean highs toward your favorite listening spot. The horn also improves dynamics and efficiency, for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels. This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound.

Slimmer chance of being seen

The R-5650-W II keeps a low profile with its SlimTrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable, aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-wall bracket is recommended for installing the R-5650-W II in new construction.

Features

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-wall speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 93dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

2-Way Speaker Design: The Klipsch R-5650-W II is equipped with a premium 1" Titanium compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with a 6.5" Cerametallic woofer in a 2-way design.

  • Tweeter: The 1" Titanium dome compression tweeter is mated to a 4" square, pivoting Tractrix Horn, which disperses the sound 90° horizontally and 60° vertically into the room. The horn design dramatically increases efficiency by enabling the speaker to produce more output using less energy. The horn-loaded tweeter allows you to point the sound to a specific location, and has more controlled directivity than a conventional dome tweeter. The addition of a Linear Travel Suspension to the tweeter increases high frequency detail and smoothness.
  • Woofer: The copper-colored 6.5" Cerametallic woofer features a solid Aluminum diaphragm, anodized to add stiffness and provide perfect damping, that delivers increased rigidity for even tighter, more defined bass. The new integrated dust cap further strengthens the cone and helps ventilate the voice coil for increased driver durability.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker has a gold-plated pair of spring-loaded binding posts that can accept up to 12-gauge wire, single banana plugs, or pin connectors.

Tweeter/Mid-bass Attenuation Switches: Treble and bass contour switches allow sound customization in less-than-ideal speaker placement positions. If the speaker is installed in an acoustically bright room, such as a bathroom or a kitchen, you can attenuate the tweeter by -3dB, using the Tweeter Attenuation Switch. If the speaker is located in a corner and produces too much bass, you should adjust the Mid-bass level switch (-3dB). Both switches are located on the front of the speaker.

ABS Basket/Frame: The R-5650-W II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 100 watts.

Mounting Options

Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 8" wide x 13" high. The mounting flange around the speaker measures 0.75" wide (0.875" wide with grille). For new construction, purchase of the IK-650-W installation kit (714IK650W, sold separately) is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall (or other mounting surfaces) at least 3/8" thick.

IR Knockout: A 1/2" diameter knockout panel is provided in the lower left hand corner of the speaker frame for installing an IR sensor.

Q
Dose it come with a mount for the wall , like a brace?
alfonso  Sep 20, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Alfonso. Thank you for your question. Pre construction brackets are only needed if these are getting installed and wired before the wall goes up. The speakers come with attached clamps for installing if the wall is already up.

Q
2 questions. One can this be used as a stand alone speaker? And two will it hook up to a vintage '70's Pioneer receiver?
tom  Jul 29, 2023
1 answer
A
This speaker requires and amplifier/receiver for power. It should work nicely with your Pioneer receiver as well as most every amp/receiver both new and old.

Q
How do I pivot the horn? It won't move.
roosevelt  Sep 12, 2022
2 answers
A
If you're trying to pivot up & down, that will not work. Only pivots left & right. I took my horn off to see about adjustment for a possible up & down (rotate 90 degrees), but the points at where the horn pivots are glued in place. Just got them myself and hope they work okay although sitting much higher than sitting level.
thomas  Dec 30, 2023
A
They should move relatively easily. If you purchased the product from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. They can walk you through the configuration and see if there may be a fix. Our toll-free Tech Support number is printed on your invoice, and is also available under the "My Orders" tab in the "My Account" section of our website. If you did not purchase the unit from Crutchfield, then you may want to contact the manufacturer.

Q
Can I install these speaker in an exterior wall that is insulated?
francisco  Feb 22, 2022

A
Yes. I did
mark  Feb 23, 2022
A
These should work fine on an outside wall, as long as you consider: - Unless speaker wire already exists, insulation will make running the wire more difficult. - You'll likely have to remove insulation, which will allow heat/cold into the wall, reducing the effectiveness of the insulation. If your wall is 6" rather than 4" deep, you may still have a couple of inches behind the speaker to place insulation. Also the kind of insulation could matter; blown-in could fall from above and interfere with the speaker, as these are open-back. - You might consider ON-wall speakers for an exterior wall instead of IN-wall.
glen  Feb 22, 2022
A
You will not have enough room in the wall cavity for both the speaker and insulation.

Q
I purchased Klipsch R-5502-W II for Front Left and Right. Can't use a Klipsch R-5502-W II for center channel due to stud spacing. Can I use Klipsch R-5650-W II as a center channel speaker?
michael  May 31, 2021
1 answer
A
It can be used as a center channel speaker and you will need to install it vertically as shown in the pictures. If that installation isn't possible, then its recommended for you to contact an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check for other options

Q
How does one go about the installation if the home is not new construction?
cameron  Sep 21, 2020
1 answer
A
Your best bet would be to run the wires around the room along the edge between the wall and ceiling. Then cover the wires with crown moulding. You can run the wire inside the wall from the top to the spkr.

Q
Would these speakers make good rear surround sound speakers to complement my RP-260F's , RP-440c, and R-112SW? I will eventually add elevation speakers in the ceiling for Atmos.
charles  Nov 09, 2017
1 answer
A
The Klipsch R-5650-W II speakers can be used in a wide number of home audio applications; including the rear/surround speakers in a home theater system! And based on the other Klipsch speakers in your system, the R-5650-W II sound like a great choice to consider :) If you would like to discuss your system layout in further detail, please feel free to get with one of our Product Advisors by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thanks!
