Klipsch

Our take on the Klipsch Reference Series RW-10d

Whether you're watching movies or listening to music, you'll enjoy deep, involving bass with the Klipsch® RW-10d. This powerful, high-output subwoofer sports a 260-watt amplifier and a strong-yet-light 10" woofer designed for quick, precise movement. Exclusive CornerPort™ technology allows the subwoofer's port to be as long as possible without bending, which minimizes port turbulence for tight, accurate sound.

Top-mounted controls with an easy-to-read LCD display make it simple to adjust volume, crossover, and more. You can also select from three preset equalization curves to find just the right amount of "oomph" for your music and movies. Plus, you can adjust the subwoofer's settings to fit your personal tastes, then save them into one of three user-adjustable presets.

Features

Dynamic Power: The RW-10d's amplifier is rated at 260 watts RMS and 575 watts dynamic power. The dynamic power rating indicates the power the amplifier will deliver to the woofer under normal operating conditions for a subwoofer. While the RMS power rating indicates power available on a continuous, long-term basis, subwoofers rely on large, short-term peaks of power to to support the wide dynamics required by today's digital music formats and movie soundtracks. Therefore the dynamic power rating can be used as an indication of a subwoofer's real-world performance.

Bass-reflex Design: Using exclusive Corner Port technology, the port tube runs diagonally through the enclosure, allowing it to be as long as possible without bending; minimizing turbulence that can cause port noise and distortion. This also allows the enclosure to be tuned to a lower frequency than would otherwise be possible to create deeper bass from a smaller cabinet. Another important element is a corner-shaped flange at the port's internal opening, which amplifies the benefits of a longer port.

Cerametallic Woofer: The 10-inch woofer features Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range.

Controls

DCS Digital User-Interface: With the exception of the master power switch, all functions are adjusted using the DCS (Digitally Controlled Subwoofer) digital user-interface on the top of the sub:

  • Volume: adjust the subwoofer volume relative to the rest of the system
  • Recall Settings: recall one of three user defined settings; Movie, Music, and Night
  • EQ Mode: choose between Flat, Punch (emphasizing the 60 Hz region), and Depth (boosts the 30 Hz region)
  • Lowpass: adjust the crossover from 40 Hz to 120 Hz in 5 Hz steps; the crossover can also be bypassed, useful for an LFE signal that's already crossed over
  • Phase: adjust the phase from 0° to 180° in 10° steps
  • Brightness: set the display brightness to one of four settings
  • Power: choose Auto On or Always On; the Auto-On Circuit turns the amplifier on when an audio signal is detected and off after approximately 20 minutes with no input signal; the master power switch on the back panel overrides this setting
  • Keypad Lock: the keypad can be locked to prevent any accidental changes

IR Sensor: An infrared remote sensor on the rear panel allows integration with universal control systems. The RW-10d IR codes can be found on Klipsch's web site.

Connections

Preamp Level Input: The left and right line-level jacks should be used when connecting the subwoofer to a pre-amp, signal processor, line-level crossover, or receiver with pre-amp level outputs. Use the left input when connecting to a single LFE output.

Speaker Level Input: The speaker level jacks connect directly to the speaker outputs of an amplifier, integrated amplifier, or receiver.

Terminals: The speaker level inputs have binding posts that will accept bare wire up to 12 gauge, pin connectors, spade connectors, and single banana plugs.

Great SUB!!

Written By Chad, Michigan on Saturday, June 25, 2011

Great sounding subwoofer!!! I know the specs say it will only handle down to 35hz or somewhere close to that but I popped in one of my bass test cds and this sub handled everything the disc put out. I was very surprised at the frequency range of this sub. I think I'm going to buy another just like it for a 7.2 surround system.

I got this to replace old sub. WoW what a difference. I use it mostly for home theater. But it rocks my CD collection as well. Plenty of deep bass. Small foot print making it great for smaller rooms. Lots of power.

Supurb

Written By MK Carlson, Napeville, IL. on Monday, March 21, 2011

Replaced my 25 year old Sony SW-A30 that had a down firing 12 inch speaker
with this front loaded 10 inch Klipsch. What an amazing piece of equipment! As
professional musician who plays bass in the studio and live (Rickenbacker
and Hofner) all I can say is that the Klipsch delivers the tone you hope to get in
recording and on stage.
Yes, you have to play with the settings a little to get where you want to go, but it
is well worth the small investment of time for the large results you get.
Its work with movies is also superior!

Very Nice...

Written By Woodroce, Finger Lakes, NY on Wednesday, March 16, 2011

I have this sub as part of a 5.1 system and I couldn't be happier. I have a
pair of RB-61II (bi-amped) out front and a set of RS-42II in the back and a
RC-62II center. Everything is being run by an Onkyo TXNR708 receiver.

I am rockin'!

You will love this sub-woofer, trust me. And, if you have never ordered from
Crutchfield, you will be back! I won't go anywhere else!

Written By George, Ca on Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Matches well with the RC 60II and the RB5 II bookshelf speakers. The room is 20ft x10ft
and I have the RW-10d at 2db's; gives the sound a nice rumble. Looks good, too.

Thundering Bass..don't regret buying this!

Written By Jaison, Philadelphia, PA on Tuesday, June 23, 2009

I bought this part of the matching system recommended by Klipsch:
Klipsch RS42 Black (Each) Surround Speaker
Klipsch RW10d Black Subwoofer
Klipsch RC52 Black Center Speaker
Klipsch Reference Series RF-52 (floor speakers)

I have this configured as a 7.1 system in a basement. When watching a movie with explosion or any type of sound effect with deep bass, you can feel the thundering bass thru the concrete floor and the walls vibrate. No exageration, the plates on the 1st floor in dish rack rattle little. I only use at night as the vibration is amazing. The opening sequence of 007: Quantum of Solace is an excellent demo of this sub's capability. Having said that, the 260 watt amp in this is more than enough for an avg. basement. The more powerful versions of Klipsch subwoofers may be good for an extra large basement (possibly home of 4000 sq. ft area).

It is pricey but well worth it, if you demand a premium system. I have no regrets.

This subwoofer rocks!

Written By gail, Honolulu, HI on Thursday, April 30, 2009

I just received this subwoofer along with the Klipsch RS-10, RB-51, and RC52. I paired these speakers with a Yamaha RXV663 and connected them to our new Samsung LN52B650 tv. Upon ordering, my husband had been calling the system, "Your speakers". Now I can't get near the tv. He loves it. We tested the system with a dvd of Lord of the Rings and when they galloped the horses through a stream, you could hear the water splash and hit the shore line. Wow, did we get our moneys worth!
