Definitive Technology A60 Dolby Atmos enabled speakers

The A60 Elevation speakers were designed to fit on top of the Definitive Technology BP-8060ST tower speakers to create a seamless cabinet capable of front and height sound (BP-8060ST not included).

Bounce sound off the ceiling for enhanced surround effects

How do these speakers work? Each features a 3" driver on the top of the speaker. These drivers are angled and feature controlled dispersion, so they can reflect sound off of your ceiling and back down to your listening positions. The A60 speakers attach to the top of the BP-8060ST tower speakers. Use a pair of A60s with your front towers, or add another pair to the rear surround towers for an even more enveloping experience.

Custom-built for the BP-8060ST speakers

The A60 Elevation speakers are easy to install on top of the BP-8060ST speakers. Just remove the top cap on each tower speaker, line up the holes on the bottom of each A60 with the pegs on the top of the tower speaker. Gently push the A60s down, and you're ready for an intense home theater experience. The A60s features binding post speaker terminals for connection to your Dolby Atmos compatible receiver's "Height" or "Top" outputs. Don't have a Dolby Atmos capable receiver? Check out our selection.

Making movie night spectacular

With smooth midrange and upper bass performance, the A60 Elevation speakers add realism and drama to your Dolby Atmos capable home theater. High frequencies are digitally processed to enhance the perception of height, for huge sound that extends well beyond the plane of your speakers. Special foam is used around the baffle to dampen sounds that aren't dispersed toward the ceiling for reflection down to your seats.

Features

"Height Speaker" for Dolby Atmos: In response to Dolby Atmos, Definitive Technology has created the A60 Elevation Module as a dedicated "height speaker" for the Definitive Technology BP-8060ST (735BP8060, sold separately). The A60 is designed to simply sit atop the Definitive Technology BP-8060ST and fire sound upwards, which is then reflected off the ceiling and back down to the listener.

Pyschoacoustic-Based Filtering: The A60 performs smoothly throughout its midrange and bass, implementing psychoacoustic-based filtering in the high frequencies to enhance the perception of height. The slope of the speaker baffle aims the speaker to bounce sound off the ceiling and arrive at the listener from above. Sound arriving directly from the speaker is reduced by controlling the driver's dispersion pattern and damping what sound remains using specially selected foam on the baffle.

3" Midrange Driver: The A60 Elevation Module houses a single 3" poly-composite cone midrange driver inside an acoustic suspension enclosure that is capable of producing a frequencies between 200hz to 15,000hz. The 3" midrange driver can handle up to 100 watts.

Binding Post Speaker Terminals: The Definitive Technology A60 is fitted with two binding post speaker terminals to connect to the appropriate speaker output on your Dolby Atmos AV receiver. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual).

Installation: The A60 Elevation Module replaces the top cap of the BP-8060ST tower speaker. Before the A60 Elevation Module can sit on top of the BP-8060ST tower speaker, the to cap of the BP-8060ST must be removed; the A60 then rests on top of the tower speaker. There is also a wire guide which inserts into the bottom of the BP-8060ST tower speaker, so you can neatly route the speaker wire from your AV receiver up to the A60 Elevation Module. The speaker wire of your Atmos-enabled receiver then plugs into the A60's binding post speaker terminals.

What You Need: To experience Dolby Atmos using the Definitive Technology A60 Elevation Module, you'll also need the following.

  • A minimum of a 5.1ch speaker system with a pair of Definitive Technology BP-8060ST tower speakers.
  • A Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver or pre-processor.
  • A Blu-ray Disc player, compatible Blu-ray game console, or connected streaming player set to its PCM bit stream output option.
  • Dolby Atmos AV receiver and Blu-ray player, game console, or streaming player must be connected via HDMI.

Dolby Atmos: With Dolby Atmos, sound comes alive from all directions, including overhead, to fill the home theater with astonishing clarity, power, detail, and depth. Dolby Atmos is the first home theater system that is based not on channels, but on audio objects. Filmmakers using Dolby Atmos can decide exactly where those sounds should originate and precisely where they move as the scene develops. To deliver the full object-based soundtrack to home theaters, Dolby developed new home authoring tools and new encoding methods that allow all the audio objects created for the cinema to be used in home theater.

Note: Globally, more than 100 cinema blockbusters have been released featuring Dolby Atmos soundtracks in the past two years, and many more are on the way. Major Hollywood studios are partnering with Dolby to create home video versions of current box office releases and previously released favorites for release in 2014 and 2015.

Q
I have Definitive 8080st towers. I am considering buying a Atmos Definitive a60 speaker module. I know Definitive a60 is designed to sit on top of 8060st towers, but does anyone know if it fits on top of 8080st towers? Thanks

A
I'm sure they will be able to 'sir' on top of your 8080 towers. try them out and see if they seat well on top without tipping off. They are meant to flush mount on top the 8060 towers, something you won't get due to 8080 being a bigger speaker
