About the Polaroid Originals I-1
An instant camera for the digital age
Point, shoot, and print photos of special moments with the Impossible I-1 instant camera.
An instant camera for the digital age
The Polaroid Originals I-1 looks a lot like an old-fashioned instant camera, but there are some differences under the hood. You can certainly point it, shoot, and print an instant memento, just like you can with an old-school camera. But if you pair it with your iPhone® or Android™ device via Bluetooth®, you can get creative with your images before you print. Download the free app so you can trip the shutter from a distance. Try your hand at "light painting" and double exposure. Take direct control over aperture and shutter speed. This camera adds a fun layer of creative control to instant photography.
The camera is compatible with Polaroid Originals 600-style color and black & white instant film.
Capture beautiful portraits, instantly
The I-1 is great for memorable get-togethers like weddings. The ring-shaped flash on the front of the camera produces a soft, diffused light that captures the contours of your subjects face — and the brightness in a person's eyes — in each keepsake instant photo.

The Impossible Project Story: When Polaroid announced in February 2008 that they would no longer manufacture film for Polaroid instant cameras, the Impossible Project was born. A few months later, Impossible purchased the production machinery from the last remaining factory before it closed down. Since the original formula was no longer available, the company had to reinvent instant film from scratch. Today, Impossible is the only company in the world that makes instant film in the original Polaroid formats, in both Color and Black & White. Millions of already-manufactured Polaroid cameras were saved from being destroyed, and have been carefully refurbished for the new Impossible instant film. In addition, Impossible developed a new camera system that uses the same original instant format -- the I-1.
Camera Overview: The Impossible I-1 is an easy-to-use analog instant camera that has many of the same features found on the original Polaroid cameras. Not only does it instantly deliver a physical photo print, it has a built-in automatic flash, and an exposure level adjustment. The camera features a 6-element lens with a focal length of 82-109mm, and a 41° vertical and 40° horizontal field of view. The 5-zone autofocus system lets you focus in the following zones: Macro (11.8" to 19.7"), Closeup (19.7" to 3'-3"), Near-field (3'-3" to 7'-3"), Mid-field (7'-3" to 14'-9"), and Far-field (14'-9" to infinity). The I-1 has an unique ring flash with 12 LEDs (8 main LEDs and 4 supplemental LEDs) that not only provides flash light for indoor shots or diffused light for portraits, but also indicates the level of the rechargeable battery, and the number of remaining photos in the film pack. A dual lens pop-up viewfinder has concentric circles to help you align the camera and frame your shots. Some of the 21st Century features include a smartphone connection with the I-1 App, and a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery.
Compatible Film: The Impossible I-1 works with the new I-type Color and B&W instant film, or with the Impossible 600-type instant film (Color and B&W). No film is included with the camera.
I-1 App: Not only can you use the I-1 as a point-and-shoot instant camera, but with the I-1 App, you can utilize many features found on today's digital cameras. The camera connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 4.0). The app allows you to use your smart device as a remote trigger to shoot photos from a distance, take selfies, self-portraits, or group photos. The Manual Mode lets you control the aperture, shutter speed, focus, and flash strength. Also with the app, you can activate the self timer and take a photo after a 5, 10, or 20 second delay, or trigger a photo by making a loud noise. Other functions on the app include Double Exposures, Light Paint, and Color Paint. You can even digitally scan an instant photo to save and share with your friends. The I-1 app is compatible with iOS 8.3 or later, as well as Android 4.3 and up.
Battery: The Impossible I-1 is powered by a built-in 500mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. The battery will charge in 1.5 to 2 hours when using a smartphone power adapter and the included USB charging cable. Using a USB port on your computer to charge the battery will take approximately 3 to 4 hours.
