You put some good bass in your car, but now your speakers just aren't hanging with your subs. Kicker designed their KS Series component speaker systems to deliver the performance you need to bring that "live music" experience to your ride.

The KS5.2 component system features heavy-duty 5-1/4" polypropylene woofers supported by Santoprene rubber surrounds. These speakers can handle high-level playback without straining, especially when they're powered by an outboard amplifier.

Titanium 1" dome tweeters broadcast plenty of high-frequency sparkle, so you'll hear all the sonic details that make your tunes exciting. External crossovers direct the right frequencies to the tweeters and woofers for optimized performance, so you'll hear detailed, natural sound. Power these components with a nice amp, and you'll hear how these quality component speakers make your music more immediate and real.

Features

Woofer Cones: The Kicker KS-series speakers feature durable Polypropylene woofer cones, resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Santoprene Surrounds: The woofer surrounds are made of Santoprene rubber to allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL. Santoprene is durable and resists moisture for a long life.

6x8 Adapter Bracket: For mounting flexibility, the woofer can be mounted in 6x8 applications using the supplied bracket.

Grilles: The KS5.2s come with graphite-colored, plastic, spoke-style speaker grilles.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters come with brackets to allow multiple mounting configurations; flush-mounted, angle-mounted, and surface-mounted:

  Flush Angle Surface
Mounting Height 0.322" 0.716" 1.195"
Mounting Depth 0.775" 0.631" screw depth
Frame Diameter 2.323" 2.323" 1.911"
Cutout Diameter 1.753" 1.753" N/A

Coaxial Tweeter Mount: In addition to standard tweeter mounting options, an innovative tweeter mounting post lets you mount the tweeter directly to the center of the woofer, giving you a standard coaxial speaker. When the tweeter is attached to the woofer the mounting height increases to 0.935" (top mount) and the tweeter protrusion increases to 0.677" (bottom mount).

Crossovers: The component system includes passive 2-way crossover networks for a seamless transition between the woofers and tweeters. The slope is 12dB per octave (both high pass and low pass) and the crossover point is 4000 Hz. A switch on each crossover allows you to attenuate the tweeter output; 0 dB, -4.5 dB, or -9 dB. The crossovers' dimensions are:

  • Length: 5.718"
  • Width: 3.012"
  • Height: 1.487"

How much power is recommended to run these? I have an aftermarket kenwood that puts out 22 watts per channel. Do i need an amp? 2001 volvo s40

I run mine just off of my kenwood and it works fine

Yes you need a small amp my truck has one from factory built in for the on- star that's what I used good luck with them
juan  Jun 04, 2014

You don't need an amp at all. I run these off my stock head unit and they sound great! So you should be fine with out an amp, but having one would only make them sound even better.

I have the ix1000.1 powering a pair of these and a pair of 6.5's and they sound excellent! I always recommend amplifying midrange coaxials and components with at least 50 watts rms.

Hi Daniel, I have recently installed these speakers in a 2005 Toyota Corolla and they really livened up the car. They replaced the 12W paper cone stock speakers. I installed a Pioneer DEH-X8600BS head unit and did provide extra power with an Alpine KTP-445U Power Pack which provides 45W RMS x 4. I purposely stayed below the 65W RMS for the speakers to ensure they would last for awhile. Honestly, I would bump the power up to at least 45W RMS. They get plenty noisy in the Corolla and I suspect your Volvo is a little bigger. I know I wouldn't want to go down to 22W in the Toyota after hearing the Kickers with the Alpine providing the extra punch. Hope this helps.

Hey I have a pioneer avh-x2400bt head unit that puts out 54w per channel and have this setup with out a amp and it sounds great u might need a amp im hooking mine up to a amp soon they can take 300watts.over all very good component set
sara  Jun 03, 2014

The radio it self is enough but the sound quality is going to be lacking since the component setup. For optimal performance an amp is always suggested but not required
steven  Jun 03, 2014

My kenwood puts out 50 watts per channel and that gives me 100 db output so it's really a personal preference of how loud you want it to be. But I would if I were you
clifford  Jun 02, 2014

I was told not to run them unless you had at least 50 watts per speaker. I had them under powered and they blew. So I would recommend getting an amp to power them.
