How to mount a Bluetooth microphone in your car

In a nutshell: This article will give you some handy info about installing your new car stereo's Bluetooth® microphone in your car or truck.
If your new receiver includes a Bluetooth microphone, you’ll need to connect and mount it as part of the stereo installation process. Yes, it’s an extra step in the installation, but it’s actually pretty easy. Here are a few tips from our experts to get you going.
Where you mount your mic is up to you
Decide where to mount the microphone
Where you put it is up to you — the top of the steering column is a good spot, as is the visor or even the A-pillar. It all depends on what works best for you and your vehicle. Wherever you decide to locate the mic, you can aim it right at your face for the best possible voice pickup.
The microphone cable connects to the rear of your new receiver
Route the mic cable to the rear of the stereo
The mic’s thin cable is easy to tuck out of sight, whether you’re mounting it up on the visor or down on the steering column. If you’re mounting it on the visor or A-pillar, you’ll want to tuck the cable behind the trim panels on the way down. This is pretty easy, but you might need to use a panel tool to loosen up the panels.

Take care while running the cable
One way or another, the cable will wind up going behind the steering column and up into the radio cavity. A Pro.Fit Wire Worm can be a big help when you're running the cable into the dash. Just be sure to avoid important things like the steering column and other moving parts while you're working. It might be helpful to use some cable ties to secure the cable along its run.

Wonderful you provide instruction on install, but the not the part number to replace the microphone mount that was received broken. Do I really need to pull the entire radio out and send the complete thing back to get a new microphone mount?

My microphone is on the a pillar and picks up the other colors. Voice to the point where they hear themselves talking. I have attempted to move it different places however, it does not make it better. Any suggestions?

Have installed a microphone twice in two different vehicles. If you use the A pillar mounting you can rout the microphone wire under the dash, behind the kick plate, and up the A pillar. Much easier than trying to fish it beside the steering column. Use small zip or Velcro ties to keep the wire out of harm's way. If you luck out there will be a factory wiring harness, you can attach it to. And yes, you do have to work on your back under the dash. But a nice tidy installation that is invisible is worth it. :-)

We bought a new stereo that came with a microphone my jeep already has a built in microphone do we need to install the one that came with the stereo? Or will the existing microphone work with new stereo. Thanks

I recently had a crutchfield unit installed at Best Buy and no one told me about the mic. I saw it today and thought it was left from a bluetooth system my husband had installed years ago and pulled it out. I know, dumb... BUT, the wire broke off. My question is can I find the other end of that wire and splice it somehow or do I need a new mic fitted all the way back to the unit? Thanks!

Actually up on the A pillar is ideal, close to the windshield, even with window down driving this spot is protected from wind noise and air buffering. I drive my Wrangler with no top frequently and can carry on a conversation at highway speed.

Wouldn't mounting it on or above the visor be a bad spot since the visor would end up blocking the mic if you move it around? The A pillar is too close to the road noise and useless if the window is open. If it's a bad spot, it's a bad spot, just tell us to not put it there. I can pretty much mount it anywhere, I'm looking for the best placement spot.
