AKG P170

The AKG P170's small-diaphragm design and wide frequency response make it ideal for capturing acoustic guitars, strings, and percussion.

Accurate sound under extreme conditions

The P170 features an all-metal body designed for rough handling. Its sound pressure level capability of 155dB ensures you can close-mike high-energy sound sources — like drums or amps. Yet it's equally effective with acoustic guitar and strings. AKG's transformerless preamp minimizes distortion. And the mic's switchable high-pass filter effectively gets rid of unwanted rumble and wind noise.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The AKG P170 is a small-diaphragm condenser microphone designed for recording overheads, percussion, acoustic guitars and other string instruments. It's lightweight, 1/2-inch, true condenser transducer diaphragm delivers outstanding clarity and transient response, while its heavy-duty build quality makes it durable enough for live applications.

Polar Pattern: The P170 has a cardioid polar pattern, which has maximum sound pickup directly in front of it, slightly less pickup from the sides, and no pickup from the rear of the mic.

Gold-Sputtered Diaphragm: The P170's diaphragm is made of a plastic foil that is gold-sputtered on one side to prevent shorting to the back electrode, even at extremely high sound pressure levels.

Construction: The all-metal, rugged construction helps reject RF interference picked up from transmitter stations, wireless microphones, and other communications equipment, as well as protecting the microphone from tough stage handling.

Attenuation Pad: Miking loud sound sources or placing a mic extremely close to an instrument can subject the diaphragm to very high sound pressure levels, which may cause audible distortion. The P170 features a switchable 20 dB attenuation pad to lower the signal level, allowing the mic to handle sound pressure levels up to 155 dB without any perceptible distortion.

Connection: The P170 features a 3-pin male XLR connection, which provides a balanced, low impedance output.

Phantom Power: Because this is a condenser microphone, it requires +48 V of phantom power.
