JL Audio Built In USA

The JL Audio Stealthbox® custom-fit subwoofer delivers incredible bass in a package that takes up minimal space and blends in with your vehicle's interior. JL Audio designs Stealthboxes to fit in specific vehicles, then loads them with appropriate subwoofers for optimal performance. Pair the system with an appropriate amp and wiring for stellar concealed bass.

Perfect sound to go with the perfect fit

JL Audio puts months of research and design into each Stealthbox® custom-fit subwoofer to ensure not only that it fits, but that it sounds better than any other custom enclosed system. First, JL Audio determines the ideal shape and mounting location for each enclosure, so that it looks like an original part of the vehicle it's designed for. Next, they mount each high-performance subwoofer so it delivers amazing firepower from within its unique enclosure, without sacrificing clarity or musical depth.

The fiberglass enclosure offers superior rigidity while allowing more interior volume, so the sub can turn out louder, deeper bass. JL Audio craftsmen then laminate, grind, join, and finish each Stealthbox® by hand. The end result: full-bodied, distortion-free bass from an impressively stealthy enclosure.

Enjoy enhanced, custom-fit sound

This Stealthbox® enclosure installs inside the front part of the center console in 2015-up GM-built full-size SUVs with front bucket seats and factory console (replaces the factory sub if your vehicle has one). It includes one down-firing 10" TW1-2 2-ohm subwoofer from JL Audio. Features

Overview: The JL Audio Stealthbox features a 10" TW1-2 thin-line subwoofer mounted in a sealed fiberglass enclosure that's designed to fit select 2015-up GM SUVs. Wired for 2Ω mono operation, the sub can handle 300 watts of RMS power and is a perfect match for JL's XD300/1v2 mono amplifier.

Mounting: The Stealthbox sub is specifically shaped to fit inside the forward-most portion of the center console, replacing the factory sub if equipped, without affecting storage space or cup holders. The center console holds the subwoofer enclosure in place, so no mounting hardware is required.

Customer Q&A

Q
How much louder roughly is this setup than the stock sub system?
patrick  Aug 12, 2023
1 answer
A
We cannot confirm improvements on a "loudness" basis, Patrick. This JL Audio Stealthbox is a passive unit requiring a separate amplifier, and that amp cannot exceed 300-watts RMS. When paired with the JL Audio MX300/1 compact amp in the link below for power you can expect maximum performance with a perfect match wattage wise with high sound quality as a result, this is usually a big step up from a factory subwoofer no matter what jams you are jamming out to! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13698406/JL-Audio-MX300-1.html

Q
Can I switch the sub out for one that handles more watts? If so what sub would fit?
amber  Mar 24, 2023
1 answer
A
We do not advise swapping any drivers out on JL Stealthboxes, Amber. The Stealthboxes are designed by JL to work together perfectly, and you may have poor performance when modifying. Depending on your specific year, make, and model vehicle we may have fit options with boxes that can handle more power. If you are going to high-power, you may need to build a custom enclosure and use a slim sub like the Alpine Type R W10D4 in the link below. This speaker works well in a wide variety of boxes and can handle 600-watts! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500RSW10D4/Alpine-RS-W10D4.html

Q
Where are you guys mounting the amp and Lc2i?

place amp/and others below c pillar behind the trim panel in front of the driver side rear wheel well. there is A LOT of room behind that trim panel (and gm actually positioned two amps behind the same panel-back by the jack behind the wheel well- a 550w and a 200 w) another crutchfield user suggested by the jack, i'm suggesting a few feet forward from the jack on the front side of the wheel well... if you are concerned about ventilation you can pop the cup holder out of the very rear driver side arm rest (3rd row). your amp would be positioned below and forward from that cup holder hole. i've used this setup for a few years with no overheating issues. i turn it up a lot and have hot summer weather with no impact. if i get bigger amps in the future i'll consider positioning in the C pillar- integrated for display.

What size amp is recommended?

JL recommends a 300 watt amplifier and is what I installed. works very well.

Q
Can I add an analogue gain dial?
eric p  Sep 14, 2020

Charles nailed it. You should not use a speaker level volume controller and would need to find an amp that can power this subwoofer and that can work with a remote level controller. We have advisors that you can reach by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can give you a personal recommendation on one
jason  Sep 27, 2020 (Staff)
A
Not sure I understand the question, Eric. Are you looking to turn up or down the "volume" of your sub? If so, I feel that be best accomplished by using a sub volume control knob for your chosen amplifier, not dropping in an analog/passive volume control.

Q
Is this an easy install for DIY or does int need a pro install?
jose  Jun 04, 2019
1 answer
A
If you have a good working knowledge of car audio and aren't afraid of removing interior panels, your console, etc... this is a middle grade DIY installation. I'd say go for it. Just make sure you have the right tools (screw drivers, torx bits, panel tools, a multimeter, etc...). Shouldn't take more than a couple of hours, if that.

I have read some reviews with regard to rattle while using JL Audio Stealthbox in a Silverado. Those with this Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon have any issues with console rattle?

A
Yes i have a rattling noise in my tahoe too.
denita  Feb 21, 2019
A
No rattle issues.
jaime  Feb 20, 2019

I have a 2017 Tahoe and I have zero rattles. The sound is excellent. I watched the install and it was intense. Get a quality install done and you'll have no problems. On a side note, make sure your installer knows how to tweak the amp because the newer vehicles play the noise canceling through the speakers and an aftermarket amp messes with that.

I have had 2 in 2 different vehicles, last vehicle was a 2014 now I have one in a 2019 and it's works flawless with zero rattle. I have read people that have rattle and I think it's all in how it's installed. Hope this helps.

Adam... I have a 2017 Tahoe. I really love my JBL Audio Stealthbox. It fits very snug in the old Bose speaker space. I never hear any rattling.

Q
Besides requiring an amp, does this installation also require a line output converter?

I use the lci2 to tap into my speaker wire. It strips the signal and provides an input for your amp. Works great! I do not use an output converter.
oakley  May 22, 2018
A
No. Straight hook up from high output of the left and right speaker outputs on the head unit. The LC2i does the rest.

Q
Does this integrate into a 2018 Yukon Denali with the Bose Centerpoint Stereo and rear DVD entertainment system?
jessica  Mar 21, 2018
1 answer
A
Yes. It is a recommended fit and will replace the OEM subwoofer when equipped. You'll just need to add an amplifier to power the Stealthbox properly.
