Performance is the goal

Audiofrog GB10D4 rear view

The GB10's massive vents help keep things cool.

Audiofrog engineered and built their GB10D4 10" subwoofer with performance in mind. It starts with a 3", four-layer voice coil made to withstand the heat generated when a sub's working hard. The cast aluminum basket uses special venting to help dissipate this heat, enabling this sub to handle up to 500 watts RMS. Its extended low-frequency response means it can reproduce truly low notes without compromise.

A sub for small enclosures

The GB10D4 is optimized to work in compact enclosures — as small as 0.5 cubic feet for a sealed enclosure — so you can bring powerful bass into a tight space. Its high sensitivity means that your amp won't have to work so hard to bring you those thumping lows. Another nice touch from Audiofrog — an external switch lets you switch the sub's impedance from 2 to 8 ohms without rewiring.

Serious testing

Audiofrog subjects its speakers to rigorous testing, pulling random subs from the production line to check their ability to withstand abuses of heat, vibration, and power. A unique copper ring shields the mammoth 3" voice coil, minimizing the distortion found in traditional designs. It's this attention to real-world detail that makes Audiofrog subs unique, as they're designed by people who really know car audio.

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features two 4Ω voice coils, with a switch on the terminal, allowing you to easily change from parallel (the woofer presents a 2Ω load) to series (the woofer presents an 8Ω load) wiring.

Screw Terminal: The set screw terminals offer easy connection of bare wire up to 8 gauge. A 3mm Allen wrench (not included) is needed to tighten the terminals.

Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box volume range is from 0.5 ft³ to 0.75 ft³, with 0.6 ft³ being the ideal size. A sealed enclosure design gives the smoothest response with increased energy at the lowest frequencies.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume range is from 0.85 ft³ to 1.75 ft³. The ideal size is 1.0 ft³, for which both slot and tube style port measurements are given; both result in a tuning frequency of 33 Hz:

  • Slot: 11" x 1" opening, 17.5" long
  • Tube: 3" diameter x 13" long

Power Handling: Audiofrog lists two RMS power figures in the manual; 500 watts RMS in the technical specifications section and 100-1,000 watts RMS in the recommendations section.

Q
Im debating between getting a pair of these or a pair of jl 13tw5, i would be using an audiocontrol 1.1500. Would the audiocontrol amp be enough for 2 of these? Ive never heard these in person but ive heard the tw5, im very curious how the gb would compare. Thanks for your time.
mauro  Aug 03, 2019

A
You would want to get the dual 2-ohm voice coil version to match up with that AudioControl amplifier. Also, that amp would power these Audiofrogs for moderate listening levels. I'f you wanted to get the most of them, you would need a more powerful amplifier. If you need more personalized help matching amps and subs, give one of our advisors a call:https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

Q
im debating in getting a pair of these or some JL 13Tw5, im wanting to use an audiocontrol 1.1500, will that be enough to power a pair of these? Or would you recommend the jlâ??s instead? Thank you.
mauro  Aug 03, 2019

A
Hi Mauro, thank you for your question! The AudioControl LC-1.1500 is a great amp, but for best results with the setup you're going for with the Audiofrog GB10D4 subs, I would recommend going with an amp that can deliver more power. Since that amp is 2ohm stable, you will be forced to wire those subs to a 4ohm load, which will not let you reach the full potential of your investment on these great subs. Please chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. They will be happy to make a great recommendation for your system.

Q
Is 500 watts RMS plenty for this sub? on this site, it states that I need 1000 watts, but on the box it states that I need 500 watts rms. Do I go with what Crutchfield states or what Audiofrog states?
caleb  Apr 27, 2019
1 answer
A
So, you don't 'need" 1000 watts, the stated RMS range of that sub is 100-1000 watts. You could go as high as 1500 if you wanted to REALLY push it. 500 watts will run that sub just fine.

Q
Since it is 4-ohm dual voice coil, I only see a single connection. How do you wire it into 2-ohm?
stanislav  May 24, 2017
1 answer
A
There's a switch so you can configure 2 or 8 ohm with one connection
