About the Audiofrog GS12D4

Bob Bihlmayer

GS Series for higher power handling

Audiofrog designed their GS Series subs to handle today's high-powered amplifiers. The GS12D4 12" subwoofer features a treated paper cone with a rubber surround for long life and high performance, housed in a stamped steel basket for rigidity and durability. Audiofrog's designers focused on creating a tough, reliable sub by adding extra venting to the basket to help cool the 3" voice coils. They also used larger magnets and a specially engineered motor structure to reduce distortion and increase power handling.

Handles up to 800 watts RMS

The GS12D4 sub handles up to 800 watts RMS, while the two 4-ohm voice coils give you the option of running it at 8 ohms for multi-sub setups or at 2 ohms to maximize your amp's power output. And Audiofrog designed this sub to be equally comfortable in a sealed or a ported enclosure. If you're looking for performance, get acquainted with Audiofrog.

Product Research

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features two 4Ω voice coils, allowing impedance flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Binding Posts: The binding post wire terminals will accept pin connectors, spade lugs, single banana plugs, and bare wire up to 8-gauge. The binding posts are spaced too far apart to accept standard dual banana plugs (3/4").

Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box volume range is from 0.75 ft³ to 1.25 ft³, with 1.02 ft³ being the ideal size. A sealed enclosure design gives the smoothest response with increased energy at the lowest frequencies.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume range is from 1.35 ft³ to 2.5 ft³. The ideal size is 1.5 ft³, for which both slot and tube style port measurements are given; both result in a tuning frequency of 33 Hz:

  • Slot: 12.5" x 1.5" opening, 22" long
  • Tube: 4" diameter x 16" long

Power Handling: Audiofrog lists two RMS power figures in the manual; 400 watts RMS in the technical specifications section and 100-800 watts RMS in the recommendations section. We've listed the recommended range in the specs table.
