About the Jensen BUCAM400AJ
Backup and listen
Backup and listen
Jensen designs with big vehicles in mind, and their BUCAM400AJ backup camera is no exception. A built-in microphone lets you hear instructions loud and clear over speakers when you're backing up. This camera is no slouch on picture either, delivering a crisp, 170° wide-angle view that's an invaluable aid when you're reversing into (or out of) a tricky spot.
The camera's composite video 19-foot connection cable makes it a great match for a video receiver with an RCA backup camera video input and mono RCA audio jack. This includes Jensen receivers like their CDR5620, CMN8620, CMR3710, and CMR8629.
Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.
What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)
What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.
How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.
Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Features
Backup Camera: This rear-view camera can be installed on a variety of vehicles with an in-dash aftermarket video monitor. Your aftermarket in-dash monitor must feature a composite video camera input. The camera allows you to view what's behind your vehicle on your in-dash monitor's screen when you put your vehicle in reverse.
CMOS Image Sensor + Wide View Lens: The rear-view camera employs a CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 733 x 493 (effective pixels). The image sensor also incorporates auto white balance. The rear-view camera features a 170-degree wide view lens to help you see better behind your vehicle. The rear-view camera provides low-light visibility down to 0.5 lux.
Built-In Microphone: The rear-view camera even features a built-in omni-directional microphone to pick up sound behind your vehicle. Your aftermarket stereo must have a camera input which consists of not only a composite video jack, but also a mono-RCA jack for audio.
Parking Guidelines: The rear-view camera provides parking guidelines on the screen of your vehicle's in-dash monitor to help you back into a parking space. The parking guidelines can be turned off by cutting the thin blue wire loop on the camera's attached cable.
Audio/Video Connection: The rear-view camera comes with a 19.75' composite video/mono-RCA audio cable to run from the camera to the camera input (consisting of a composite video & mono-RCA jack) of your vehicle's in-dash monitor. An RCA-to-3.5mm audio adapter may be required for some receivers.
Weather Resistant Housing: The rear-view camera utilizes a weather resistant plastic housing with an IP67 rating.
Licensce-Plate Bracket: The rear-view camera includes a stainless-steel bracket that allows you to mount the camera behind your license-plate frame using the existing screws. The license-plate bracket allows you to adjust the angle of the camera up or down.
Power Requirements: In addition to connecting the rear-view camera to your in-dash monitor's composite video camera input, you will also need to hardwire power and ground of the camera to your vehicle. Power can be obtained from your vehicle's reverse light circuit or from the reverse gear wire of your aftermarket stereo (if applicable). The ground will need to be connected to your vehicle's metal chassis.

Great camera, no issues. Like that it mounts to the license plate area, takes the work out of figuring where to mount it. Works great, and video is good quality for a backup camera.
