Hand-made in Italy, Mosconi amplifiers take performance to the next level, using a proprietary Class D design to deliver superb sound quality from a small chassis. Their Gladen D2 500.1 mono amplifier will drive a subwoofer or high-performance speaker with 475 watts RMS, and do it with style.

Stylish performance

For most folks, driving a Ford or Chevy works out just fine while, for a select few, only a Ferrari or Lamborghini will do.

Locally sourced components

Like a gourmet chef keeping a close eye over the quality of his ingredients, company founder and head amp designer Ivan Mosconi sources his electronic components locally, using parts manufactured within 50 miles of his factory. This attention to detail ensures that his high standards of performance are met for every product he manufactures. And every single amp is tested before it leaves the factory, so you can count on getting the power you paid for.

Versatile features

The professional-grade crossover circuitry works with a variety of subwoofers and speakers in order to optimize the sound for each. For subs, the high-pass filter can act as a subsonic filter to remove inaudible extreme bass from the mix, while the low-pass filter maximizes your sub's performance in its enclosure. In larger systems, you can use this incredibly compact full-range amp to power a midbass or midrange driver, by employing a bandpass filter to keep the sound focused properly for that type of speaker.

Optimized for 4-ohm loads only

This amplifier wants to see a 4-ohm load, so it will match up well with:

  • one single voice coil 4-ohm subwoofer (or speaker) rated between 350 and 600 watts RMS (like a Focal P30F)
  • one dual 2-ohm voice coil subwoofer rated between 350 and 600 watts RMS (like a Focal K2 40 KX)
  • two dual 4-ohm voice coil subwoofers rated for 150 to 300 watts RMS each (like a pair of Focal RSB-300s)

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Mosconi Gladen D2 series of amplifiers pack a lot of punch into a small package. These Italian-made amps have a beautiful silver-brushed finish, and can be installed where many amps can't. The D2 500.1 is only 6" wide, 1-5/8" high, and 5-3/4" deep, and produces 475 watts (at 4Ω) from its mono output. It is a full-range mono speaker. Its Class D design makes it very efficient, with more than 75% of the power going to the speaker output.

Crossover Functions: The D2 500.1 features high- and low-pass filters which can be independently controlled. The high-pass filter can be set from 20Hz to 175Hz, while the low-pass filter is variable from 45Hz to 310Hz. When both filters are activated, a band-pass filter is created. The crossovers have a slope of 12dB per octave.

Input: The D2 500.1 allows you to connect your car stereo using line-level or speaker-level signals. If your stereo has preamp outputs, you can use a pair of RCA cables to make the connection. If you are connecting the amp to a factory radio, or an aftermarket model without preamp outputs, you can splice the included RCA plug adapters to the stereo's speaker wires and connect it to the amplifier. The amplifier's input sensitivity range is from 0.35V to 14V.

Auto Sense: Auto Sense automatically detects a signal at the input and turns on the amplifier. Auto Sense only works in the High Level input mode, and no REM connection is needed. When using a Line-level input, you will also need to connect a turn-on lead from the stereo to the REM connection on the amp. The Auto Sense switch has three positions: Off, BTL (bridge tied load) or SE (single ended). Most high-powered head units will require the BTL setting, while the SE setting is for low-powered head units.

Output: The D2 500.1 includes a 4-conductor output harness for connecting the speaker(s). You'll need to splice speaker wire to the speaker harness to run to the speaker location. There are two pairs of speaker wires on the harness, allowing you to connect two speakers in parallel if desired. The recommended operating load is 4Ω, so you can connect one 4Ω speaker or two 8Ω speakers to the amplifier.

Power Connections: The amplifier features set-screw terminals for the power and ground wires. The terminals will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The set screws can be tightened/loosened using the included 2.5mm Allen wrench. The REM (remote) terminal features a recessed 0.11" male quick slide. A crimp-on 0.11" female quick slide is included for terminating the remote turn-on lead. The REM lead can be used as an input or an output. It acts as an input when using a line-level input from the stereo. It can be used as an output, when using Auto Sense and a speaker-level input, to turn on another amplifier in the system.

G-Card Slot / RTC Port: The Mosconi Gladen D2 500.1 has a 1" x 3/8" slot on its front panel for plugging in an optional G-Card. Various G-Cards are available (from the manufacturer), including a Low-Pass & High-Pass Card with a full active crossover. In addition, the amplifier features an RJ-25 modular jack for connecting the optional RTC remote volume control. (Crutchfield does not carry the optional G-Cards or RTC remote volume control at this time.)

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Q
Can you connect this to a dual 4 ohm voice coil sub like a JL Audio 10W6v3-D4? A lead going to each voice coil.
jonathan a  Dec 21, 2017

A
While this is a mono amp, it's only stable at 4 Ohms. In order to connect the JL Audio sub, you'd have to wire the dual 4 Ohm coils in series and present a 8 Ohm final load. You'll get half the amplifier's rated 4 Ohm wattage when you present the 8 ohm load. So, no, this is not a good amp to pair with that sub.
