Stream to your other devices

Nowadays almost everyone uses their smartphone to stream music, podcasts, and other audio. But it's a drag to have to use a cord to connect your phone when you're accustomed to the freedom of wireless. Hosa's IBT-402 Drive Bluetooth® interface gives you the connectivity you need, whether you're connecting a Bluetooth source to a non-Bluetooth system, or vice versa.

Multiple modes for multiple uses

The Drive offers two modes of operation, Receiver Mode and Transmitter Mode.

  • Receiver Mode: the interface plugs into the input on your non-Bluetooth car stereo, pro audio mixer, or home audio system, and accepts audio from your phone or other Bluetooth device.
  • Transmitter Mode: lets you broadcast sound from a non-Bluetooth source to your Bluetooth-capable car stereo, headphones, or speakers.

Take it along

The IBT-402 runs on a built-in battery with up to 8 hours of life, so you don't have to worry about finding a power source when you use it. Charging is simple with the included USB cable, and the Drive can charge while in use. Now you can solve your connectivity problems with a simple, inexpensive universal solution.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Hosa IBT-402 Bluetooth Interface lets you add Bluetooth wireless capability to most any audio device that doesn't feature built-in Bluetooth, such as an analog audio mixer, turntable, or analog stereo receiver.

Bluetooth: Featuring Bluetooth version 4.2, the IBT-402 supports APTX, A2DP, and AVRCP, for CD-like audio quality as well as Bluetooth control. For added flexibility, a 2-way slide-switch on the IBT-402 allows it to act as either a Bluetooth Transmitter (TX) or Receiver (RX). This also determines the function of the 3.5mm stereo audio jack, allowing it to work as either an audio Input or an audio Output. Pressing and holding the Multi-function (Power) button will put the unit into pairing mode, with the transmitting or receiving unit searching for the IBT-402. No security PIN is required for pairing. Bluetooth range is approximately 33 feet in open spaces.

Battery: The IBT-402 includes a built-in rechargeable battery, giving it up to 8 hours of operating time in Transmit mode and up to 6 hours in Receive mode. Charging is done using the provided USB cable (2.0, type-A to micro-B) and takes approximately 2 hours to fully recharge. The IBT-402 can be charged while in use.

Controls and Ports:

  • Multi-Function Button (Power): Used to power the interface on/off, pressing and holding puts unit in pairing mode. Also contains the LED indicator. This will flash during pairing, alternating between red and blue, then switch to blue, blinking slowly, when pairing is complete.
  • TX/RX: This 2-way slide-switch determines if the unit will be operating in either Transmit or Receive mode.
  • Aux In/Out: A 3.5mm stereo audio jack is used for either transmitting or playing back audio.
  • USB: The micro-B USB jack is strictly for charging the Bluetooth interface.

Specifications:

  • Bluetooth Version: 4.2
  • Frequency Range: 2402 MHz - 2480 MHz
  • Supports: APTX, A2DP, AVRCP
  • Operating Distance: Up to 33 ft. (open space)
  • Internal Battery: 200 mAh
  • Operating Time: Up to 8 hrs. in TX mode, 6 hrs. in RX mode
  • Charging Time: Approximately 2 hrs.
  • Input Voltage: 5 VDC
  • Ports: 3.5mm TRS (audio), micro-B USB (charging)

Q
Once I hook this up can I use any stereo function ie FM/tape/phone?
tom  Feb 13, 2024
1 answer
A
So this device can act as either a transmitter or a receiver based on your needs. If you are using this as a receiver, you would normally connect this into an audio input and set the switch to Receiver mode. This will allow you to connect up your phone or tablet and send audio to the Hosa so your music can play through it. If you instead use Transmitter mode, this will allow you to connect to the output of an audio component and wirelessly send a source through the receiver to a wireless pair of Bluetooth headphones or speakers. Based on your question it sounds like you would want to use this as a transmitter so you can wirelessly send your FM Tuner, Tape or Phono inputs on a home stereo system to a wireless Bluetooth device and if that is the case, you can certainly do so with this component as long as your stereo system has an output.

Q
I have a NAD C338 amp. I need to connect a portable JBL Bluetooth speaker to it. The only audio output option appears to be the headphone jack. Is the Hosa IBT 402 Drive a good solution for this? I'm assuming I'll need a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter.
kerry  Dec 27, 2023
1 answer
A
This will work for your application with the additional 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter. Keep in mind that connecting to the headphone output will mute the speaker outs.

Will this unit transmit to Sonos speakers using an old school receiver? Basically I'd like to use my turntable and listen to my vinyl outside.
jetsfan  Nov 22, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Herb. Excellent question. The Sonos speakers would need to have Bluetooth built in. Most do not. The new gen Era 100, Era 300, Move, and Roam. if you have any of those, the transmitter will transmit to one, not a group of them. If you need your Turntable to send out to multiple Sonos speakers like in a group, you would need the Sonos Port connected to your receiver, assuming it has an RCA preamp output.

Q
Is this compatible with my 1999 Lexus RX300?
jon  Dec 11, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Jon, and thank you for your question. The Hosa IBT 402 is universal, uses household current, or internal battery if it goes into the vehicle. What it needs though is the radio to have an auxiliary input, and on a 1999 that is pretty doubtful, but if you have that, the Hosa will work for you.

Is this compatible with my 1999 Lexus RX300 ?
jon  Dec 11, 2022

A
That adapter is universal so as long as your Lexus has either a 3.5mm or stereo RCA input somewhere for audio then you could use it.

Does this device have a electrical power cord?

This one does, sort of Dennis. This unit comes with a USB cable that would connect to a charging "box" like in the link below, then plug into the wall socket. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120USBPWR/Metra-EHD-USBPWR.html

I don't believe so. I returned this item shortly after I purchased it. I was trying to connect a CD changer to my soundbar. The sound quality wasn't good, a lot of static. It makes me wonder how Bluetooth headphones can work without distortion.

My HOSA is driven into a Cambridge integrated amp. My connected device is a PC not a phone. Yes, there are tones. Also, at shutdown.

eduardo  Apr 20, 2022

Hi Tom:: This Bluetooth adapter does not connect to speakers. Instead it connects the signals from a device (like maybe a radio) to another device (like maybe a Bluetooth earpiece) without wires by using a Bluetooth standard radio signal. Once this device is used to get the signals into the receiving device (like maybe an Audio Amplifier with Bluetooth capability) the question of how many speakers you can connect is dependent upon that amplifier.

My Samsung tv does not have a headphone jack. How would I connect this?
jim  Jan 24, 2022
1 answer
A
It comes with an RCA (the red and white ends) cable. Just plug that into the RCA Audio Out or Aux Audio jacks on the TV if it has that. Then select that source when you want to use the HOSA. Most TVs have that. If not, I don't think this will work for you. Hope this helps.

Q
My Samsung tv does not have a headphone jack. How would I connect this?
jim  Jan 24, 2022
1 answer
A
Use the supplied HOSA IBT 402 headphone cable and attach one headphone cable male jack to the HOSA IBT 402 female headphone jack. Then attach the other cable male headphone jack to the supplied RCA Cable female headphone jack. Then attach the white and red RCA male plugs to the female AUX - IN white and red jacks on your Samsung TV. For audio playback thru your Samsung TV speakers from an outside source (like a bluetooth iPod), select the Samsung TV AUX output. Personally, I use this "little guy" to stream music content from my iPhone to my old Bose Wave acoustic system II

will this make my clarion XMD3 marine device bluetooth compatible with my iPhone 10?
john  Sep 04, 2021

If your deck has an auxiliary input this device will let Bluetooth devices find it. I've found it works well with everything I've tried it with. The usb cord it comes with isn't very high quality and gave me some noise. So I use a better cord and it helps a lot.

Will this fit my 92 lexus sc400?
jerry  Jul 24, 2021

Hi Jerry, Thanks for your question. This item is not vehicle specific. As long as you have a 3.5 mm mini-jack input to connect to then should be good to go. Hope this helps.

I have a Dodge Journey, 2017, that is NOT Bluetooth enabled. I'd like to use my Android phone to make/take hands free calls and voice comes through car speakers?.
teddi  Feb 13, 2021
3 answers
A
On second thought, it might not work for speaking into the phone in the car. The car radio would have to be equipped with some type of microphone to "hear" your voice. It would be able to play music etc from the phone to the car's radio if the car has an aux jack in it.
dieter profilin  Feb 16, 2021
A
It depends on the type of radio you have. If it has an auxiliary input that you can plug this device into, it should work. You'd set it as a receiver, then your phone will communicate with it, and it would send the audio to the radio through the aux. input.
dieter profilin  Feb 16, 2021
A
You need to be able to plug the HOSA into the car sound system as a "source", then pair your phone to the HOSA. If you can't plug the unit into your car system, then you're out of luck.

Can't give you an answer. I could pair it with my iPad but not get Apple Music to play through my stereo speakers. Still have to deal with Hosa/ crutchfield about that.

Q
Can I use this product to connect my wired, powered subwoofer to my Sony Bluetooth sound bar?
collin  Nov 16, 2020
1 answer
A
Bluetooth in a powered sound bar is typically used to get audio into the bar and not to send it out to another speaker like this Bluetooth receiver. I wish I had different news for you there. Also, the only way a wired subwoofer can be used with a powered sound bar is if the bar has a subwoofer output.

Q
I have an older Yamaha HTR-5440 home receiver with audio output jacks labeled VCR OUT. Is an audio output signal present on these jacks with the receiver input mode set to D-TV/CBL? If so, will this device plug into those output jacks and transmit to bluetooth headphones?
michael  Nov 14, 2020
1 answer
A
I don't have any information about the settings on the Yamaha receiver, but if there is an audio signal on the RCA jacks, the HOSA will connect and transmit an audio signal to a device that will pair with it.

I have a bluetooth car stereo (Alpine ILX650) that does not have an aux stereo input. Can I use this device to connect the RCA audio outputs of the factory DVD unit to listen over the stereo?
richard  May 13, 2020

If the Alpine connects to other sources (e.g. smartphone), it should connect to the Hosa. You could direct your question to Hosa Technology.

Q
Can the HOSA IBT 402 Drive Universal Bluetooth interface kit be paired with, and transmit to, Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones?
michael  Mar 06, 2020
1 answer
A
I would say yes. It can be a bluetooth transmitter or receiver. I use it as a receiver and connect to older systems such as an old stereo, but as a transmitter when connected to a device it can transmit a signal to these bluetooth enabled headphones.
dieter profilin  Mar 06, 2020
Q
Could I use this with a car amp to skip using a receiver?
jason  Jun 04, 2019
3 answers

I don't understand your question completely, but the device is a Bluetooth receiver, so you could send audio from another device to this, which would be plugged into the car amp.
jerry  Jun 18, 2019
A
I'm only guessing , but I'd say yes. It should be a line level signal, adjust the volume, etc with the phone or whatever device is sending the signal.

Actually I need to press the power/pairing switch each time I power up, sorry for any confusion. You might consider the Harmon Kardon unit, as it has no pushbuttons for power/pairing.
daniel  Apr 29, 2019
A
I have one of these for my home system, and the device itself does not have a power/pairing switch, and everything is done from my phone. The device stays powered constantly in my system, and links up when I select the Hosa from my phone. If you power the Hosa down, like in a car application, you might need to pair it again, but not sure. I will try to power down my Hosa and see exactly the steps needed to relink. Sound quality and volume are excellent.
