About the Metra 70-1858 Receiver Wiring Harness

Metra 70-1858 receiver wiring harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-1858 receiver wiring harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna turn-on
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Wiring Harness: This wiring harness prevents you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

Q
My factory radio harness was cut, is this the correct product that I need to rewire the harness to plug into a factory stereo system? Or does this plug into an aftermarket stereo?
ricardo  Feb 04, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Ricardo. Thank you for your question. This harness would be to connect an aftermarket stereo to the vehicles original radio plug. Harness' to replace cut factory wire plugs we do not carry, but they are made and can be found for most vehicles 5 years old or older. This same company Merta makes them, and they have a website you can input your vehicle information. http://metraonline.com/

Q
does this plug into the kenwood head unit or no?
jaiden  Jan 13, 2024
1 answer
A
This Metra 70-1858 wiring harness is used to connect a new car stereo in select 1985-2005 General Motors-built vehicles, Jaiden. This harness plugs into your vehicle and has bare wires to connect to the harness provided with your Kenwood radio. If you need a new Kenwood harness to match your radio, you can usually source that from the Kenwood accessory store in the link below by searching for your specific model radio. https://store.kenwoodusa.com/

Q
Why does the Metra 70-1858 adapter have two light blue wires and the diagram says it has two green wires?
randy  Dec 12, 2023

A
Greetings Randy. Thank you for your question. Pictures on different web browsers, and or computer displays can appear to have different colors. For instance, on my screen those wires look Aquamarine. When you get it in your hand those wires should be green.

Q
So Iâ??ve got a couple of questions, So the original stereo is already out and I see some sets of wires but Iâ??m not sure which as ones are for specifically the radio and donâ??t want to use the wrong ones which ones do you use to connect to the harness?
jessie  Sep 15, 2022
1 answer
A
This is tough to answer Jessie because I don't have any info on your vehicle, and I also do not see any orders placed under your email sadly. We do provide lifetime Technical Support with any order, so no matter the condition of your wiring we can try our best to get you hooked up! The way these install harnesses work is they have bare ends for connecting to your choice of new radio, color coded wiring. The other end is a plug that will match your vehicles original plugs for the radio. It's pretty easy to identify which one as it usually only fits one place. Now IF someone has cut your original plastic plug off and left only wiring you'll need to determine which wires to connect manually. We can help if that's the case too! With any order you get that access to our Technical Support squad and we can hit you with a wiring diagram for your vehicle to help hardwire a radio in that case. If you need a new stereo to put in place of that gaping hole in the dash reach out to us at 1-800-324-9695 and an Advisor can help pick one out for you!

Q
Can I have this prewired in a plug kit? Makes the job faster like my last install.
anthony t.  Mar 16, 2022
1 answer
A
Hi Anthony. Our Readyharness service for prewire is only for new receiver purchases. We open the receiver box and use the radio harness and connect it to the purchased vehicle harness. So to answer your question, no, I'm sorry. That option is not available.

Is this the same harness for the 92 lesaber with the concert sound 2 system?
daniel  Aug 09, 2021

This wiring harness does work in that vehicle to help install a new radio.

Q
Is there any way to be able to use my factory amp in my 94 chevy c1500?
levi  Apr 29, 2021
1 answer
A
I don't know if it would work on yours. I used the power antenna signal wire off my head unit's wiring harness to signal my factory amp to turn on. Had to cut and splice a little. You'll need to look up the wiring diagram, for your vehicle and for your head unit to know which wires do what.

Q
my 2001 gmc yukon has 2 harnesses coming out of the factory radio, my suv does not have the upgraded bose speakers but does have the factory subwoofer. Will this harness work or will another one need to be purchased?
jacob  Oct 16, 2020

A
The connector with 2 rows of pins is the main radio connector. The other connector with 1 row of pins is likely for a cassette player, which is usually remotely mounted. You don't need to connect the new unit to that one.

We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question.

Q
How would I wire this in a 1997 Chevrolet tahoe LT 4dr?
jason  Sep 13, 2020
1 answer
A
This harness should plug into the stock wiring left once the stock radio have been removed. It should come with a color code chart so you can make sure you connect the bare wires (on the other end of this harness) to the matching wires on the new radio. We give our customers lifetime technical support that can help with installation questions too. Their direct dial phone number is included on the order invoice

jason  Sep 13, 2020

A
Remove the wiring harness from the old radio coming from the dashboard, plug this plug into the end of the harness and then wire color for color of the new harness for the new receiver that's going in, follow the instructions on each wire when hooking up.

Q
My 1993 suburban has 6 speakers. 2 in the dash, 2 in rear doors, and 2 in rear cargo area. This harness looks to be for only 4 speakers. How do I power the two not included in the harness?
larry  Jan 03, 2019
3 answers
A
Hi Larry, you will have to splice 4 together. put the dash on the front channel and the back 4 on the other channel. keep the positive and negatives straight.
bernard  Jan 03, 2019
A
Car head units traditionally only have 4 speaker outputs in the wiring harness. Chevy has probably wired the 2 sets of rear speakers in parallel to share the amplifier power from the head unit. You can keep the wiring in that fashion or add an amplifier to provide additional power to the extra set of speakers.
daniel  Jan 03, 2019
A
Rca outputs to an amp powering the largest pair of speakers.....or if your head unit has enough rms, splice into one set of speaker outputs, be it "front" or "rear"
