Heads up!Welcome to this article from the Crutchfield archives. Have fun reading it, but be aware that the information may be outdated and links may be broken.
Kicker's venerable KS series of car speakers gets a couple of key updates for 2014. First, they now employ a silk-dome tweeter for smoother highs, and second, a shallower basket so they'll fit into more vehicles. And of course, they maintain the Kicker sound quality that made them popular in the first place.

Logan: I'm here at the Kicker booth at CES 2014 here with Aaron from Kicker. He's gonna tell us about his new line of speakers.
Aaron: Well, thank you for being here today. The KS line has evolved quite a bit. The KS has been around for several years. We've done really well with it, but we decided it was time to really go more upscale with it, so we've refined the sound quality.
How did we do that? We changed the tweeter out. We were using a metal tweeter, and metal tweeters have their place, but if you want to really refine smoother highs, you go to more of a silk-dome tweeter. So that's what we've done with this KS line: silk-domes on the components and the coaxes.
Another huge change, other than the cosmetics, of course, is we've gone to a shallower basket. It doesn't matter how good a speaker sounds, if it doesn't fit in your car, you're not gonna use it. So we made a great-sounding speaker that fits in almost every application.
So we've got a full line of coaxes and components. And here's a huge feature that we really like about the coaxes — check this out. You can take the component tweeter and mount it on top of the mid-range. This has a lot of advantages. Let's say you don't want to cut a hole in your door above the mid-range. You can take the tweeter and mount it on top of the mid-range, no extra hole cutting, and you still get the great sound quality of a component speaker.
The crossover also comes with it. And the huge benefit of the crossover is it tells what speaker to play what sound so you get the best sounding system you can with great power handling as well. So that's what we've done to the KS line this year.
