Complete Garbage! Get the Metra instead

Crutchfield customer from Roswell , GA on 7/28/2019

2017 Toyota Highlander

This thing is complete garbage. To start, all the parts are loose in a poly bag with none of them individually wrapped so when I received it, there was a large scratch on the face plate. Next, the design is horrible. I installed it and the fit is crooked so it does not line up with the vents and looks like an amateur install. I thought maybe it was how I had mounted the stereo so I took out the stereo and tried just the dash kit. Nope, it is the kit itself. The tolerances are horrible and do not line up well with the factory mounting holes. The plastic brackets are flimsy and unlikely to hold up. Lastly the finish is ugly and is a lighter shade than the car so it sticks out like a sore thumb. I was so disappointed with the AI dash kit that I bought a Metra 95-8248B to replace it. That kit is excellent. It comes with plastic brackets but is designed to allow you to use the factory metal brackets if desired (which I did). The finish is a soft-touch material which looks identical in color and contours to the car. Awesome kit that worked perfectly in my 2017 Highlander Limited (with JBL stereo I was replacing). For reference, I was putting in a Pioneer w8400-nex As for this American International dash kit, stay far away, at least for this car.

Pros: None. Seriously, none.

Cons: Everything. Poor fit. Poor packaging. Cheap build. Horrible design. Not properly engineered. Flimsy. Poor finish does not match interior.

Look. It works. But it does not seem especially well-made and required a fair bit of Dremeling to accommodate a double-DIN head unit and sit flush with the AC vents. There was some swirling from the molding process, and the color and texture do not match OEM at all. I might shop around for an alternative part, or just do the work to refinish this one to match.

Pros: It fits.

Cons: Doesn't match factory finish at all, a bit flimsy, required a fair amount of adjustment.

Great for making the install simplified, but you will need to play with it some to get it to fit somewhat perfect. Sticks out a little at top. This kit is a lot better than the Metra kit as far as quality of the plastic. I had it painted to the color of the car (kinda like an accent wall), looks so much better and it did away with the roughness of the kit I received and the fact that it was not an exact match to the dash.

Pros: Plastic is thicker than other kits, Simplified the job

Cons: Not a perfect fit with out making some adjustments, texture on the surface of the kit I received was a bit rough, not an exact match to the factory dash.

Works well, but not a great fit.

It works, however it just doesn't fit exactly right. the top sticks out, making it look like it is actually upside down. The problem is, it can only go one way, and it's the way that I put it in.
