About the Clarion CC510

Display overlay helps when backing up

Clarion's CC510 rear view camera shows you clearly what's behind you as you're backing up, and adds a unique touch — colored guide lines on the picture help you judge how much space you've got. When you see an object at the green lines at the top of the picture, you've got plenty of room. You'll exercise caution as the object passes through the yellow and orange lines, and then stop when it gets to the red lines.

Compact, waterproof, hardware included

This tiny camera comes with all the wiring and hardware you'll need to install it. It'll fit in almost any location you pick, even many license plate frames. The 31.5-foot cable includes a composite video connector that'll hook up to almost any car stereo with a screen.

Note: A rear-view camera provides an additional view when reversing your vehicle. It is intended to be used in conjuction with your rear- and side-view mirrors to give a fuller picture of what's behind you. It is not intended as a replacement for your mirrors.

Features

Compatibility: The Clarion universal rear-view camera (CC510) can be used as a back-up camera with Clarion in-dash monitors. However, the standard composite video output (RCA plug) extension cable makes it compatible with virtually any mobile video monitor.

Note: The rear-view camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Waterproof Chassis: The camera is built into a compact waterproof (IP67), UV-protected (ASTM D4329) aluminum case, making it perfect for mounting outside the vehicle.

CMOS Optics: The Clarion universal rear-view camera employs a 1/4" color CMOS image sensor (342,016 pixels) with auto iris and automatic white balance to deliver a high quality picture.

Super Wide Viewing Angle: The 150° horizontal and 90° vertical viewing angles provide an excellent near field view of anything behind you. The camera gives you a mirror image for rear view confirmation.

Illumination Range: The rear-view camera features a minimum subject illumination of 0.5 lux (at 50IRE). The 0.5 lux rating ensures you'll have visibility at night in low light.

Distance Guide Lines: This rear-view camera provides visual distance guide lines (Red, Orange, Yellow, and Green). These guidelines cannot be turned off.

Mounting Bracket: The rear-view camera comes supplied with an integrated self-adhesive bracket which can tilt the camera up and down. Its also compatible with Clarion's CAUU02 and CAU001 license plate mounting kits (sold separately).

3 Connectors: The CC510 rear-view camera includes an attached 31.5' cable terminated by a composite video RCA connector, power lead, and ground lead. The composite video RCA connector plugs into your in-dash monitor's rear-panel RCA camera input. The power/ground leads connect to your vehicle's +12-volt reverse lamp wire and gets grounded to a metal surface of your vehicle.

Q
I purchased a Pioneer AVH-4000NEX from Crutchfield and this Clarion cc510 camera on the recommendation of one of the advisors. He stated the advantage of the cc510 was the camera displays grid lines. After installing both I found out that the 4000NEX has the capability to display and adjust grid lines as a function of the receiver. My question is, can the grid lines displayed by the Clarion cc510 be turned off? As you are unable to adjust the grid lines that are displayed by the Clarion cc510.

Q
Does the camera turn on automatically when you put the car in reverse? If not what would I need to for this to happen?
[ rpoz1  Jan 18, 2015 ]
7 answers
A
I installed on 2009 VW Jetta TDI with Kendwood DNX719VHD stereo and the harness and radio had the connection already present. Yes it turns on when placed into reverse. If your radio does not have this connection you may be able to tie it into the reverse light power. See the instructions for other possible ways to connect.
[ Jeff  Jan 19, 2015 ]
A
I have this camera on a Kenwood unit and it automatically shows the camera image when I shift to reverse. This is a function of the Kenwood and its wiring harness which is wired into the truck's wiring harness to sense the reverse selection. The camera simply attaches to the appropriate input of the Kenwood.
[ AUBREY  Jan 19, 2015 ]
A
It should if the radio you choose has the ability for a back up camera. I have the Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS and I have the ability to turn the camera manually or when it goes on reverse
[ Roger  Jan 19, 2015 ]
A
Your head unit should have a green wire that goes to your reverse light so as soon as you put it in reverse it will come on. you might have to configer your head unit too
[ MICHAEL  Jan 19, 2015 ]
A
Yes. Turns on automatically and displays the colored lines. Installed on my daughter's car.
[ ERIC  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
You have to find the reverse wire under steering colum and splice into it then it will work automatically
[ Jonathan  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
yes it will if hooked up properly. There is a wire from the radio unit the hooks into the reverse wire in your car. When that reverse wire sends voltage across it ( basically when you put the vehicle into reverse the reverse wire in the car receives a positive voltage) the wire from the unit received the positive voltage across it as well and automatically turns on the camera when the car is in reverse. When the car is out of reverse that wire no longer receives positive voltage and therefore the picture switches back to the radio or the cd or whatever you were listening too.

Q
Do the gridlines curve as you backup giving you an idea of where you will be backing or do they remain straight?
[ Illini  Jan 17, 2015 ]
14 answers
A
The lines Remain straight. If the camera is not mounted on center of the vehicle, Which was the case for me, they are slightly off. There are no "smarts" or programmability To this camera. It's just a bitmap of fixed grids. Still like it though. Very convenient feature to have.
[ Daniel  Jan 19, 2015 ]
A
Yes they do they work very well
[ William  Jan 19, 2015 ]
A
The grids are fixed on this camera
[ daniel  Jan 19, 2015 ]
A
I think they stay straight
[ JOHN D  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
The lines stay straight. My dad uses it to hook up to trailers etc and its very accurate.
[ LANDON  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
If I'm understanding correctly I believe they stay straight...
[ RALPH  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
They remain straight since it does not tie into the steering or control module that sees steering angle. The grid lines do help worth backing up distance but are not as nice as the factory ones that curve.
[ MICHAEL T  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
Remain straight
[ RICHARD R  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
They remain relatively straight. They're not movable and are just a rough guide to how close you are to an object.
[ Lawrence  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
They remain strait. The colors indicate proximity but thats all. I believe nissan has a commercial out depicting there camera with that capability but this unit is a bit older. What i will say is that i have this attached to a vehicle in the north east and even with the rain, snow, ice and sub zero temps the camera works flawlessly. I only make sure to wipe lense every now and again
[ CHRISTOPHER  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
Remain straight
[ ROBERT  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
No they do not as it has no input from the vehicle except power from the backup lights.
[ GENESISTEMS,  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
Good evening, The "grid lines" do remain straight. Aside from that, the picture is amazing for an after market camera. We've had ours for about a year and the image is still clear and no problem with the seal letting moisture in as with many other cameras. It's endured many of road trips as well as automatic car washes. You won't be disappointed. Good luck and happy shipping, Matthew M.
[ J P  Jan 18, 2015 ]
A
They remain straight. It's very basic. And I don't know what they correspond to, I wouldn't count on them for an exact measurement of how much room you have, not like that commercial where the guy backs up within a fraction of an inch from the stuffed animal with the big eyes . It doesn't pick up the corners of the vehicle either, you still need to use the side mirror to help you back into a spot , not as sophisticated as the OEM backup cams that come with cars
[ Christopher D  Jan 18, 2015 ]
Q
Will the distance guide lines only work on Clarion in-dash receivers or with they show up on any brand receiver with an A/V input?
[ Kevin Polk  Jan 12, 2015 ]
6 answers
A
The distance guide lines will appear on any screen, they are in the lens of the camera. The angle you set the camera at determines the relative distance to an object. Its perfect if your head unit has no guide lines built into it or if you can disable them.
[ RYAN  Jan 14, 2015 ]
A
Kevin - I have this unit and I am pretty sure the lines come from and are generated in the camera and not the receiver. It is a very clear camera. Hope this helps!
[ Jeremy  Jan 14, 2015 ]
A
They show up on my receiver. It's not a clarion.
[ Robert  Jan 14, 2015 ]
A
Works ok on my Pioneer,,a little grainie but distant lines work just fine

A
