iPhone® and Android™ join the act

In addition to hands-free calling with Bluetooth, you can pair your phone with this Clarion for wireless audio streaming. If your Android™ is Bluetooth aptX-compatible or if you store AAC files on your iPhone®, you'll enjoy clear, CD-quality music streaming. You can also control Pandora® Internet Radio using Bluetooth for your Android or the front USB port with your iPhone. The sensitive front-panel microphone lets your callers hear you clearly, while your attention is on the road.

Ready to play

You can also satisfy your music fix using the receiver's sensitive AM/FM radio, playing CDs, and or plugging a portable music player into the front aux input. The USB port can also handle a thumb drive loaded with MP3 and WMA music files. And if you want even more choices, you can add a SiriusXM tuner to this Clarion to check out the incredibly deep programming offered by satellite radio. Nothing makes a trip go faster than finding a great SiriusXM station, then listening to it until you reach your destination.

More advantages

Once you've got your music selected, you can tweak the CX305's 3-band equalizer and EQ presets to get that sweet sound you want. You can also use the two sets of preamp outputs to expand your system with additional amps or a powered subwoofer. The taller chassis enables a direct fit in most vehicles with 4" dash openings.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our articles about Bluetooth profiles and streaming music using Bluetooth with aptX.

Wasted my money. The headunit is almost a year old. Right away, the driver's door speaker no longer gets a solid signal, might work, might not. Now I'm noticing the drivers rear is dropping signal. Called Crutchfield right after the first issue came up, this was within a month of purchase, they wanted me to send the unit back in for review. Wasn't happy with the "warranty", not happy with the quality. Should have spent another 100 and maybe found something that works

    Pros: Cheap

Cons: Cost twice as much for having to replace within a year

I installed this on my 2005 Toyota Corolla in about 45 minutes thanks to Crutchfield. My stock radio took a dive and I was looking for something to get me by(it's my work car, 45 minute drive of hearing wind). I seen the price and thought, well it's cheap and I just need some tunes to keep me sane... I was not expecting such great sound and all the bells and whistles with this head unit. Must say, I love it. Crutchfield, as always, a kick butt place to shop. I received my head unit before the date estimated. The instructions were perfect and easy to understand. Thanks Crutchfield!!

Pros: Great sound, multiple equalizers, easy to use, looks great.

I ended up choosing another brand because this receiver has very poor FM reception. I grounded the unit in two places and connected a power lead to the antenna but still couldn't hear the radio station above the white noise. Plays CD's very well and the hands-free Bluetooth calls are terrific.

Pros: Great CD sound and hands-free calls. Attractive exterior.

I put this unit in a 2008 Honda Fit, using a Metra dash kit. It looks great and sounds great. When the factory car stereo was dying, I looked at replacing it with the same part number from Honda. That would have cost more than twice as much as this Clarion, yet would have locked-in ten-year-old technology. This is such a step up, with multiple inputs, including wireless Bluetooth music streaming and hands-free telephone.

Pros: Various inputs, many radio presets, no need to feed a microphone wire behind your trim to use the hands-free Bluetooth phone feature (the microphone is in the face of the unit).

Cons: Be sure to find and turn OFF the Screen Saver, which is a super-annoying scrolling message about the features of this stereo.

Easy for this 50 year old non-techie, non-bluetooth user. Plug in ur iPad and starts to play automatically without having to tell radio to switch to this aux device. Switch to BT and the Pandora and GPS world opens up. I don't need a bunch of bells and whistles like the younger crowd uses. This more entry level, affordable unit is just right (goldilocks)

Pros: Easy to learn how to use.

Cons: Complicated to make adjustments while driving. The old 'knob' radios of the 80s were easier. (Treble, bass, Balance, fader), but still a great unit. No regrets.

For the price and step up in quality from the factory unit, it is a great deal. Did not need infinite color possibilities displayed from the unit. What put me in the market for new unit was the varying (read low) sound volumes of podcasts that I enjoy listening to. Sound volume of many podcasts was way too low - even at maximum settings in old unit.... no problems hearing them with this Clarion. MP3 music over Bluetooth also sounds great. Beyond pleased with purchase and as always, with Crutchfield service.

Pros: Great value and sound. WAY better than factory original.

    GreatMusic Sound, Poor Bluetooth Sound

After modding the dash opening of my 1999 Expedition, the unit went in like a charm. From the beginning, sound quality was amazing. I had recently replaced the factory speakers and was amazed at how good the new speakers made the factory head unit sound. This unit made those speakers sound 100 times better. With all the good that came with this unit, the Bluetooth left much to be desired. While sound from my phone streamed flawlessly, those on the other end of a call often said I sounded like I was driving through a tunnel even when I was just sitting in the car with the engine off. I could hear everyone with crystal clarity, but the internal mic made it impossible for me to hold a conversation. I also didn't like the fact that there was no option to use voice dialing via the head unit with Bluetooth connected. I ended up returning the unit for one with an external mic and noise reduction settings built in. Having installed the new unit, I must say that, for music, the Clarion sounds much better.

Pros: Awesome sound from all sources when playing music. Sound is easily customizeable.

Cons: Internal mic made Bluetooth conversations impossible. No option for voice dialing via Bluetooth.

In general it's a good product. My only frustration is that if my phone is connected via Bluetooth, the only time I can hear a text message notification is if I happen to be listening to audio from my phone, i.e. listening to a podcast. If I'm listening to the car radio and a text message comes through, there is no audible sound, either through the radio or from my phone. My solution is to NOT have the phone connected via Blue tooth unless I'm listening to audio from my phone. The downside of that solution is that I cannot use the radio to answer phone calls.

    Pros: Good sound

Cons: Can't hear text message indication.

Not a bad receiver (installed for only a couple weeks so far). Overall, happy with product especially for the price. Looking for an alternative to a stock receiver and not a hefty price tag, this is a solid option. Fairly easy to install with the provided kits (initially can be a little intimidating but after looking at the instructions provided by the receiver and the labels on the wiring harness provided by Crutchfield it became really strait forward). Also has a nice clean look and fits my double DIN. Again, this is a cheaper model given the options that exist, but a solid choice. Last word, see the specs and compare to similar brands/models in price range and purchase a radio installation kit.

Pros: * Bluetooth works great from phone * Easy to install/use

Cons: * So far none, but giving it 6 months

Major disappointment with this head unit. I've already had to reboot the unit twice in order to get both the display and menu buttons to work. User interface is confusing and not very intuitive. Manual wasn't very clear on functions either. Sounds better than stock unit, mic was average and the display is difficult to see when the sun is even remotely near it even with the display up all the way and the dimmer off. I'm going to be swapping this unit out for something new as soon as possible.

    Pros: Price was good

Cons: No intuitive user interface, buttons don't work all the time, poor display.

Radio reception is poor. Does not integrate well with steering wheel controls. Steering wheel volume and selector buttons work for about 2 minutes, then become useless. CD player has "hiccup." (brief sound surge between selections). Display either shows clock all the time or TAG info all the time, not combination. Does not display time unless powered on. Sounds really good. Very loud with lots of bass.

Pros: Good sound. Very loud with lots of bass. Looks pretty cool in dash.

Cons: Poor radio reception. Needs more display options. CD has sound "hiccup." Does not integrate well with steering wheel controls.

Bluetooth on this thing is awesome! It automatically re-connects to the device when re-entering the car and re-starts the podcast I'm in the middle of. The Bluetooth is consistent, doesn't drop out, and no delay. I'm a fan of how understated this thing is and really fits in fairly well with the stock appearance of my '05 Altima. I wish the backlighting would could be changed from blue to another color to match the interior backlighting of the gauges. This head unit also breathed new life into my factory speakers that were beginning to really sound poor. The only real con is that with the built-in microphone on the face of the unit, callers say I sound a bit "far away". I wish it came with a remote microphone. There is a remote hook-up in the back if you want to purchase one. All in all, I'm over the moon with this thing; it makes the commute way more enjoyable! Would certainly buy again!

Pros: Bluetooth, ease of install, modern and understated appearance

Cons: Only blue backlight, built-in microphone

Great radio for the price. I have used clarion in the past and had nothing but great results. I needed a double din to replace the factory unit that broke and this radio has been nothing short of what I needed. Bluetooth works great don't have to run a mic anywhere and people hear me just fine. Connecting this radio was a breeze. Did the wiring and soldering my self and it was simple to install with the harnesses Crutchfield included. The steering wheel control connection also made the buy easy so I could retain factory use of the controls. Xm radio also big perk as well. Just connected it to the factory xm antenna and flawless sound. Adjustable sound make the infinity speakers really come to life. Next add on is a small sealed sub to use with the sub woofer control on this radio should really bring the sound inside the truck to that small punch bass needed to hear the full range in the music.

Pros: Everything is a pros with this radio

    Cons: No cons

This was an exceptional value on what at least in the early stages seems to be a fantastic deck. It was extremely easy to install with all the recommended installation accessories, probably took all of 20 minutes from start to finish, and is a huge upgrade from the factory radio. My only knocks on this unit would be that navigating the menus isn't as fluid as it should be, and the one color display doesn't really help its "coolness factor", but the factory radio was only one color after all, so it's definitely not a deal breaker..

Pros: Great sound, super easy to install, has all the bells and whistles anyone would ever need for a great price.

Cons: Menus aren't super user friendly, one color display.

I just got my new CD receiver installed today. Not too difficult. The hard part was getting the old original out of the dash. I had to modify the dash because the new one is taller, but using a rotary tool made it go quick. I ordered the wrong wiring harness, so I call Crutchfied customer service and they sent me what I needed to get it done. It sounds awesome and not too hard to wire it all up.

Pros: A good solid unit and it has all I need to enjoy my favorite music. Bluetooth was very fast at pairing and USB port is a plus, so I can load up a thumb drive. Pandora is really clear and sounds great. This CX 305 was rated pretty good and the price is hard to beat and customer service is over the top great !!

Overall a very solid unit. A massive upgrade from the stock deck in my Subaru Forester (interestingly, the factory deck was also made by Clarion). The features are a little tweaky but everything works. I bought this deck because I prefer to listen to albums, not individual songs, and I have a large music collection. I prefer to put files onto USB thumb drives and listen from there. This deck is a little clunky in the interface but it works. The 3-band quasi-Parametric EQ is fabulous, it allows me to tune the system much more precisely. At first, I thought it wasn't reading USB thumb drives correctly, but it turns out this is a defect with the fat32 filesystem (that most USB drives are formatted in, and most hardware USB readers are expecting). There are various utilities for most OSs that correct this problem. I used a Linux utility called fatsort, but there are others. Details here: http://www.murraymoffatt.com/software-problem-0010.html Once I got my USB drives fixed in this way, everything works as expected. If the USB interface was a bit smoother, and this unit played FLAC files, it'd be 5/5. As it is, I give it 4.5/5.

Pros: Sound quality. Astonishing value for the money.

Cons: 1. It doesn't play FLAC files. I can't understand why more decks don't incorporate this free (as in free speech and free beer) codec into their hardware. I use FLAC extensively and it would be nice to both enjoy better sound and not have to convert them to mp3s before I listen on this unit. 2. USB drive interface is a bit clunky. See above for details. I would love to be able to scroll through folders by artist and then album, rather than linearly through each folder one at a time.

Lots of buttons for a bit of a confusing control layout. Reviews were pretty good for sounds and radio reception, but I have found it a bit static-y for some fairly close stations. This is a great replacement for any factory head unit. I replaced the factory head unit in my 2001 Toyota Camry. After I started it up, my phone found it in it's Bluetooth menu right away and I haven't listened to the radio since. I was looking for a cheap head unit to replace the factory one in my wife's Toyota Matrix. Her car might be from the dark ages(2007) but that doesn't mean it doesn't get all the bells and whistles like hands free, streaming Bluetooth, Pandora etc. With the supplied installation instructions and accessories this new head unit was fully installed in under an hour. The unit looks great and works well. Bluetooth streaming is a snap. My only real complaint is the ease of use of some of the phone functions through the head unit. All of the buttons serve multiple functions but are only labeled for their primary function. I'm sure after we've used it a while it will be second nature but it makes for a steep learning curve the first few times you use it. Tons of FM presets(18) and the ability to synch up to three Bluetooth phones make it perfect for our household of three drivers.

Pros: Really low price, looks good, works well, sounds good.

Cons: Not as intuitive to use as I'd like

To start, i selected this receiver because it was not very expensive, has many features that i want (bluetooth, hd radio, DD). I was happy to receive the package but immediately things started to change. First, the wrong harnesses were shipped with the receiver. Contacted Crutchfield and was able to get the correct main harness but never was able to get the correct sub harness. Even after sending pics to the technician I was told that I am wrong and the harness cannot be for sub. Never could/would suggest what else it could be. Got over that somewhat (plan on splicing soon) only to begin to exprience problems with the head unit itself. Bluetooth, on occasion will connect but take several minutes (up to 10) before the connection and becomes clear and unchoppy. Now i am having problems with the HD radio tuner. Regardless what station the display says, output is only from 1 station that is not even a preset and that i never listened to. Good luck.

Pros: Affordable. Speaker sale at time of purchase.

Cons: Not satisfied with tech support, Unit is quirky at best...

    Crutchfield response on 6/16/2015
Our tech support team has reached out to help troubleshoot the radio and Bluetooth issues. If they can't be resolved, they will gladly help set up a return or exchange for a different stereo. If the original harness's subwoofer adapter didn't fit, then we don't have another option. The second harness that we sent (and worked) is actually meant for the version of the Explorer that doesn't have a subwoofer, so it's hard to tell what's going on there. There could've been a running change in the Ford wiring, that happens sometimes. At any rate, if the customer isn't satisfied by the new stereo, he's protected by our 60-day return policy.

The audio sounds much better than the factory head unit. It was easy to install, and simple to pair with my iPhone. It plays music via bluetooth, and you can control music with the phone, head unit, or included remote control. The sound quality of phone calls using the built-in microphone is just OK, but my vehicle is older and has considerable cabin noise at highway speeds. Given that many cities now have hands-free laws, bluetooth is a must and is worth the investment.

I wanted to upgrade so that I could mainly include hands-free calling and USB audio support. The buttons do feel very "clicky" and cheap, but an assumed reaction to the price-point I paid. I added the iDatalink Maestro SWC kit, and found that I had a defective harness that needed to be replaced. [I found that Crutchfield's customer service was ABSOLUTELY EXCEPTIONAL, and they immediately had a replacement being sent to me.] I tend to agree that most directions leave out the little things that you need to know. This was no different, but is really the fault of the manufacturer, not Crutchfield. iDatalink failed to diagram and/or explain several wires and that a factory-installed amp will only recognize two channels (negating the fader option). Tech supp. was helpful, though could not diagnose this result. The Clarion sounded great, but failed to work with the SWC (iDatalink problem). Using the unit's buttons, navigation was fairly quick, but loading the source data was horribly slow. USB drives take over a minute. Connecting BT was easy, but the mic couldn't pick up clear audio from any of my calls. The display is also inadequate for viewing song info, plus the clock only shows by itself, not with any other info. I wanted something that was a breeze to use while driving. I did not find it here. Products were returned and exchanged and again, I found that Crutchfield's return policy and customer service was exceptional. They are the reason I'm not angry with all of this!

Pros: Sound quality. Ease of BT connection. Big, smooth dial. Appearance.

Cons: Slow source audio load time. USB load time consistently over 1 minute. Internal mic was bad at all levels. Did not work with iDatalink's SWC module (also an iDatalink problem) Display is hard to read and inadequate for song information or both song + clock simultaneously.

Got this to replace a stock in a used car I had just purchased. Haven't bought car stereo stuff since the kids came along (darn kids ruin everything! Had to take my sub box out of last car because stroller wouldn't fit in trunk! :-)) I have purchased a lot of products from Crutchfield 20 some years ago & did not hesitate to start my search with them again! I was looking for something simple that included my main wants.....Bluetooth with internal mic, AUX input, a displaying clock (stock did not have a clock as there was a separate one built into dash, but it did not work) & fairly priced..budget was tight....again....kids :-)! Most of the ones I reviewed had too many flashing lights & tiny buttons! This Clarion was simple (so what the blue lights don't match interior lights.....not taking to a car show or anything) & had all the details I wanted. Received it the very next day after ordering with the free install kit, wiring harness, and exact instructions on how to install into my specific car. CRUTCHFIELD ROCKS!!! Very easy to install. Easy to set up. Bluetooth connects automatically & perfectly each time. Phone calls are clear. Easily plays my music on my GS4 phone. Has night dimmer that dims a little when car lights are turned on. Only complaint is the clock does not appear if unit is off with car still on. Overall, exactly what I was looking for. Very happy with my purchase & highly recommend to others looking for something with a lot of features but simple in design!

Pros: Ease of install; price; internal BT mic; overall simple design; did I mention price??

Cons: Just that clock does not display when radio is off but engine still on

First of all, I am have no experience changing out a radio, but the website says they give you all the information and products to do it, also said it's easy! It's not! I was missing products to install it and the directions were awful. So unless you can do this with your eyes closed don't do it yourself, have someone that knows about these things do it, so I can't comment on radio because it's not installed yet as it is ruined because of false directions and no help from Crutchfield at all.

    Pros: none

    Cons: everything

    Great stereo for the price

I would give this stereo 4.5 stars if I could. I was looking to replace the factory head unit in my 2002 MDX. I didn't want to spend too much but wanted to make sure some key features were there, including Bluetooth, USB and aux Input. I also wanted something that was fairly straight forward without a lot of buttons that would take my eyes off the wheel. The current Pioneer and Kenwood 2-din stereo's appeared overly cluttered IMO. The CX305 really fit the bill. It was priced right, not too cluttered and is very easy to use. I must say I'm very happy with the purchase. The stereo was very easy to install. I have two very nit-picky complaints. 1.) Pushing buttons on the deck has a "cheap, pushing through something" response and not a "softer pressing a button" response. I noticed this with other stereo's in the price range, so, I guess it's normal, but I don't have to like it. :) 2.) I wish the preset buttons were bigger. There's a lot of real estate for the presets to be bigger. They are brightly lit so that makes up for some of it, but my fat fingers would like a little more surface area. Other stereo's have similarly size buttons, though.

Pros: Full featured stereo for the price A lot of extra power for those that need/want it Uncluttered stereo face

Cons: Nothing really negative. Just nit-picky items: Cheap feeling button response. Wish preset buttons were bigger

Very good head unit For the price. Great sound from tuner, cd player, and bluetooth. Install nothing different from anyother. I have a simple 200w amp with a sindle 10 connected and sounds great coming from unit although while the unit has capabilities of acting as a good equalizer the interface is difficult to navigate.

Pros: Great sound, bluetooth works flawless With a galaxy s5

Cons: Needs ability to change display color to keep current with market. had i known it couldnt change the display color i may have purchaced the comprable jvc modle that can instead but if the blue works for u i have no othet complaint

I was blown away by the quality of this product. Easy to follow instructions. Simple operation. Bluetooth was a breeze to set up. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs a decent budget priced radio for the quality you get in much higher priced units. Basically it rocks!

Having recently sold my previous vehicle, and the Sony WX-GT90BT radio that was it in, I was in the market for a new head unit for my 2000 Toyota Avalon. I didn't want to spend much, but wanted a decent brand. This Clarion model was a new arrival and the price looked good, and had what I use the most, SiriusXM. Because it's cheaper, you're limited to the one blue color. That's cool with me, because that's the color I always use anyway. As with all these types of radios with all that clear plastic on the face, daylight does obscure things. But the display is readable enough, all things considered. Crutchfield was great as usual with all the items needed for the install.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Clarion CX305 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 2.1+EDR) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Clarion CX305. Visit Clarion's Support Site for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Clarion CX305 without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can pair up to three Bluetooth-enabled devices to the Clarion head unit, but only one can be used at a time.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ Integrated Mic): The Clarion CX305 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone. The CX305 can be set to automatically answer your incoming calls and mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can instantly carry on a phone conversation hands-free. An integrated front-panel microphone (or Clarion's RCB-204 optional external mic; sold separately) carries on your side of the conversation while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person. You can make a call by entering the phone number, selecting a contact from your Phonebook list, or using the Call History Log of received/dialed/missed calls.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming call, the caller's phone number will be seen on the unit's LCD and a ring-tone will be heard through your car stereo speakers. You can then manually answer the incoming call from the head unit's front-panel controls. You can also set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call within 5 seconds.
    • Making A Call: You can make a call using the Clarion in-dash head unit's front-panel controls.
      • Direct Dial: Outgoing calls can be made be entering telephone numbers (0-9, *, #, +) directly via the car stereo's rotary control knob.
      • Phonebook: You can search for contact names in your mobile phone's phonebook from the Clarion CX305 and then make your call. The head unit can store up to 500 contact numbers.
      • Call Log: You can also make a call by searching your mobile phone's call history (Received/Dialed/Missed) from the Clarion CX305.
      • Redial: You can simply redial the last number dialed with a press of a single button on the in-dash head unit.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ aptX): The Clarion CX305 supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or audio player, plus song/artist information display and support for aptX music streaming.

    • Stored Music & Music Apps: You are able to stream your stored music library on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as music apps downloaded on your smartphone to the Clarion CX305 for playback.
    • SBC + aptX Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the CX305 incorporate the CSR' lossless Bluetooth aptX codec (for Android OS 4.0+) which helps retain sound elements lost during digital compression of audio files, ensuring users the ability to always enjoy high quality sound with wireless convenience.
    • Basic Playback Control: You can use the front-panel controls of the CX305 to operate basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music & music apps; such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track (not compatible with all apps). Advanced music control of your stored music and music apps will still need be done via your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone.
    • Song/Artist Information: The head unit will also display your stored music and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (not compatible with all apps).
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    CD & USB Playback

CD Compatibility: The Clarion CX305 in-dash head unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio discs, as well as finalized CD-R and CD-RW audio discs.

    • Disc-In-Play-Function: This feature allows you to turn the power to the unit "on" and start playing the disc automatically when the disc is inserted even if the unit is not powered up, as long as the ignition key is turned to the "on" or "acc" position.
    • Top Function: The Top Function resets the CD player to the first track of a CD-Audio disc or first track of a folder for an CD-R/RW disc.
    • Auto Reload: When a CD is ejected and left sticking out of the CD slot for 15 seconds, the unit automatically reloads the CD to protect if from damage.
Note: For proper CD playback you must install the unit within 30° of horizontal.

Front-Panel USB Port: The Clarion CX305 features a front panel USB (type-A) port that is hidden behind a flip-up cover. The USB port enables connection and control of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device; such as select portable digital audio players or USB thumbdrives. The unit supports playback of MP3 & WMA  music files stored on a compatible USB memory device. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (max. 1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: This head unit's USB port does not support Android OS devices.

Compatible Music Files: The Clarion CX305 supports the following types of MP3 & WMA files recorded onto CD-R/RW discs or loaded onto a USB thumbdrive or other USB mass storage class devices.

    • Random Play: This function allows you to play all tracks recorded on a disc or in a folder in a random order.
    • Last Position Memory: If you turn off the unit while a disc or USB device is playing, it will resume playback at the stopping point when it is turned on again.

    iPhone/Aux Integration

iPod/iPhone Direct Connection: The Clarion CX305's front-panel USB port can be used to connect your Lightning-connector or 30-pin dock connector iPod/iPhone to the head unit. Simply use the cable that came with your iPod/iPhone device or a 3rd party Apple certified cable (sold separately). The CX305 supports audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of your compatible Apple device.

    • Audio Playback w/ DAC Bypass: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music and music apps to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 1-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 94dB. The Clarion head unit supports audio playback of stored music, music apps, and podcasts on your iPod or iPhone.

You can also listen to your favorite music apps from your iPhone (iOS 5.0+) through the Clarion head unit and your vehicle's speakers. You will continue to use your iPhone's touchscreen to navigate your apps. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode.
    • Song/Artist Info: The head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music file information; including Track number, Elapsed playing time, Song title, and Artist/Artist name. The head unit will also display song/artist information from the Pandora App. It will not display metadata from other streamed apps or when in Simple Control mode.
    • Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

When Local seeking is turned "On", only those radio stations with strong radio signal can be received.

Pandora App: The Pandora App (free) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Clarion CX305 using your USB-connected Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+), via the cable that came with your iPhone device or a 3rd party Apple certified cable (sold separately). Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The Clarion CX305 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the CX305 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 watts total)
Note: The power specifications for the CX305 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

2V/4Ch RCA Output: The Clarion CX305 features 2V/4Ch RCA line-level outputs (Front, Rear/SW). The unit's Rear/SW RCA output can be configured as a dedicated non-fading RCA subwoofer output with a low-pass filter and level control (+/-6).

Built-in Crossovers: The Clarion CX305 is equipped with built-in low-pass and high-pass crossovers.

    • Low-Pass Subwoofer Filter: The Low-Pass Filter (LPF) for the subwoofer RCA output will send only the low frequency range through the preamp outputs to ensure superb performance with a connected subwoofer. The low-pass filter can be set to 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, or Through (full-range).
    • High-Pass Filter: The CX305 features a High-Pass Filter (HPF) for the unit's front & rear channels, via speaker-output or RCA-output. You can adjust the high-pass filter from 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, or Through (full-range). The HPF prevents low bass notes from distorting your front & rear speakers. The high-pass filter setting effects both the front & rear channels of the head unit.

BeatEQ: BeatEQ lets you tune the sound to your liking, depending on the category of music, for a more fulfilling listening experience. The Clarion CD receiver provides 4 preset EQ curves (Bass Boost, Impact, Excite, Off) and 1 custom EQ curve. Bass Boost emphasizes the bass portion of your music; Impact emphasizes the bass & treble portions of your music; Excite emphasizes bass, midrange & treble portions of your music; while Flat sets the bass, midrange, & treble to 0. The Custom EQ lets you freely customize the frequency, Q-factor, and level of the bass, midrange, & treble. BeatEQ settings are applied to all sources.

BeatEQ (Custom Mode) Frequency Q-Factor Level
    Bass 50Hz, 100Hz, or 200Hz 0.7, 1.0, 1.4, or 2.0 -7 to + 7
    Midrange 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz
    Treble 5kHz, 10khz, 15kHz
Note: BeatEQ settings are applied to all sources.

Magna Bass EX (Extend): The Magna Bass Extend feature does not adjust the low frequencies like the normal sound adjustment function, but emphasizes the deep bass frequencies to provide you with a dynamic sound. This circuit boosts bass at an ultra-low frequency of about 50Hz, creating a rich, deep, defined bass rather than the muddy, booming bass of a standard loudness control. What is more, boost levels are dependent on the system volume, resulting in balanced system response and dynamic bass reproduction.

Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display & Remote Features

High Visibility 2-Line LCD: The two-line, high visibility LCD (with black background and white characters) on the CX305 allows numbers and characters to be displayed clearly in almost any lighting condition.

Screen Saver: This unit is provided with a Screen Saver function which allows you to show various kinds of patterns and characters in the operation status indication area of the display in a random order. You can turn this function on or off. If the button operation is performed with the screen saver function "On", the operation display corresponding to the button operation is shown for about 30 seconds and then the display returns to the screen saver display.

2-DIN Chassis: The Clarion CX305 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using your vehicle's factory radio brackets and the supplied hardware. There is also an optional custom double-DIN sleeve (0202DBKT, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to mount the CX305 in a custom 4" opening. As always, please consult the Crutchfield Car Selector to verify fit with your vehicle.

Wireless Remote: The Clarion CX305 comes supplied with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the in-dash CD receiver. The remote provides music playback & search controls; it does not offer hands-free phone controls for Bluetooth. The remote operates off of a single CR2025 Lithium cell 3-volt battery.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

Do you need a separate Bluetooth mic for this stereo or does it automatically hook up without any assistance?
    [ Michael  Oct 13, 2016 ]
    5 answers
    A
Always use the wired mic that comes with. I made this mistake and dug it back out and tore my dash back apart to connect it. Best place is to find a way to connect it to you sun visor on driver side.
    [ Michael  Jan 21, 2017 ]
    A
You do not need a separate bluetooth mic - your device pairs with the receiver with no additional accessories required.

It's pretty much automatic......make sure blue tooth is turned on your phone and it syncs to head unit automatically
    [ JOHN  Oct 14, 2016 ]

There is a mic on the face of the stereo, but I would recommend installing the wired mic that's included. I didn't install the mic and have issues with people hearing me during a conversation. At some point I will go back and install the wired microphone.

The radio has a 3.5mm Jack in the front, but I'm not sure if it works for input as well as output(I have never used it). I have always hooked my phone to the radio via Bluetooth. All of my apps will play through the radio. Including Google maps, phone, Audible, Pandora and any other music apps.

Did you connect the receiver ground wire to ground, or to the adapter kit? The receiver ground wire is much larger than the kit ground wire.
    [ Craig  Sep 06, 2016 ]
    2 answers

Grounds are VERY important! Conect to normal ground wire and also run extra lead off of the connection (so your connecting 3 wires) and make another ground, and ground it somewhere close behind the unit.

what RMS wattage speakers should i get for just this head unit?
    [ ben dover  May 03, 2016 ]
    1 answer
    A
Most any aftermarket speakers will be rated to handle the full 21 watts RMS per channel of this stereo. To make the most of this wattage, you'll want speakers that have a low minimum power requirement and a high sensitivity rating. I hope that helps! The Clarion CX305 features 2V/4Ch RCA line-level outputs (Front, Rear/SW). The unit's Rear/SW RCA output can be configured as a dedicated non-fading RCA subwoofer output with a low-pass filter. The low-pass filter can be set to 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, or Through (full-range). I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159

Is there a built in Microphone?
    [ Caleb  Mar 31, 2016 ]
    7 answers
    A
Yes, but it does not work very well. Sound quality is very poor, person on the other end of the call can't hear you.
    [ Mike  Apr 23, 2016 ]
    A
Yes and it performs very well
    [ STEPHEN L  Apr 01, 2016 ]
    A
Yes there is. It's built into the face of the unit. I will tell you that if you plan on using it frequently to talk on the phone, I would highly recommend installing another microphone and placing it on the driver's visor. The built in mic doesn't work very well when you mix in road noise or background noise.
    [ Brandon  Apr 01, 2016 ]
    A
    yes external works better
    [ bob  Apr 01, 2016 ]
    A
No. There is a jack in the back to connect an external, but it does not have a built in.
    [ Daniel  Apr 01, 2016 ]
    A
Yes. There is a built in microphone. if you look at the picture of the CX305, the mic is right under the SRC button. It also comes with a wired mic. I've thought about installing the wired mic as there were times where the mic wouldn't pick up my voice clearly and i felt like i was yelling.
    [ Wayland  Apr 01, 2016 ]
    A
Yes, but the external microphone option works better. The built in microphone you will have to talk loud for the person to hear you clearly.

I'm looking to put this in a 1994 Camry that has a pre-amp. This only has one connector in the back - does that mean I will need to keep my current pre-amp connected? The 'car' has 2 connectors that go into the pre-amp- where 1 connector then connects to stock stereo. Do I need to include pre-amp in new installation?

HI Jason, It is pretty visible in day light. Much better than the colored text faceplates (i.e.-orange alpha/numeric). I wear transitional eye glasses that do not get too dark in the car so not sure about sunglasses, however I would bet it is still visible/easy to read. I have a sunroof that is open a lot and have never had an issue viewing it. I have had this head unit for 3 months and no complaints so far! For the $$...it's worth it! Hope this helps!
