Great for our sailboat.
Crutchfield customer from Sandy Springs, GA on 10/10/2020
This remote is great. We have a stereo on our sailboat but the stereo is down in the cabin while we have speakers up top. Often, we cannot hear each other when we are maneuvering the boat because the helm is right under the outdoor speakers and running below to turn off the stereo is just not feasible. The regular infared remote for our stereo (Clarion M303) is no longer available and probably wouldn't work well given the distance and obstacles. Finding this remote was an answer to our needs. We purchased it and it works great. We had to attach a small component to the back of the stereo and we were in business. Now, whenever we're sailing, we keep this remote strapped to the steering pedastal. If we need to hear, we can mute the stereo easily.
Pros: Easy to install. Nice holder included. Works great without line-of-sight.

The best way to describe my experience with the MF1 is "simple and easy" when we bought our SeaRay the original equipment was a Clarion Marine radio Model XMD2 which had a 6 pin connector and cable that ran to the dash and connected to the wired remote. The Clarion M608 Marine radio we purchased to replace the XMD2 had a 7 pin connector to connect to the new style wired remote. The issue was the MW1 remote was to large to mount in the dash. I did not want to want to go into the cabin to change the volume each time. I found the MF1 and it connected quickly and easily. less than 30 minutes and we were on the river playing Pandora through the M608 and adjusting the volume while driving the boat
Pros: Simple and easy
Cons: None

The range is not what I expected. My stereo is mounted in the cabin and the remote doesn't work consistently unless I'm close to the cabin door. It's about a 10' range through the cabin door and a cabinet.

I bought 2. Set up was pretty easy...used Y-connector with antenna's behind stereo. Have a Baja 342 Boss, hence the waterproof consideration. Now, the description says waterproof...not water resistant...I now the difference. Always kept one on the boat and one around my neck. After a couple months, the one around my neck stopped working...as a typical boater, we'll look into it at the end of the season....plenty of summer left and I did have 2. Well the 2nd remote made it to the end of the season and stopped working. Over the off season, I opened both of them up. Water and corrosion. They're not waterproof. Yes, they float...but again, they're not water proof. I'm actually thinking of buying them again as there really isn't another wireless remote option...however, I will make them water proof before taking them on the boat. Not bad for the price...but may want to adjust that wording on the claim to be waterproof.
Pros: Easy set up. Work immediately.
Cons: They're not waterproof.

Good remote
Brian from Wisconsin on 8/28/2017
Easy to install. Small size requires little dash space.
Pros: Easy install. Small size. Able to move about the boat with it.
Cons: Cradle is not made for flat surface. High cost considering it looks like a garage door opener.

Just a heads up for anyone installing with the M505, mine would not work untilI wired the separate powerband ground wire along with the 8 pin plug. Directions stated this shouldn't be necessary but mine would not work otherwise. Now that it works it is awesome!

David from Auburn, ca on 6/1/2015
Infrared remotes usually don't work very good with marine stereos. Radio frequency works much better. Easy to install.
Pros: You can control stereo outside your boat. Easy install. Waterproof and it floats.
Cons: Antenna needs to be in good location to get better connection and range. Not difficult at all to do though.

Plug and Play
Pier Pressure from Charlotte NC on 9/2/2014
Simply plug into the capmatible receiver and you're done. Works perfectly with the Clarion M303. Less expensive than a wired remote and much more convenient. You may not want to test the water proof feature by submerging it but you should be able to safely take it on the water with a protective bag or case. I put a short lanyard on it and move it from place to place on the boat or let others handle the music from the comfort of their seat - or on a float.
Pros: Easy Installation, transmits signal through walls: no line-of-sight needed like with infrared type, cheaper than a wired remote, no separate power or control wiring. Did i say easy installation?
Cons: Only performs basic function, on/off, volume, mute, channel, source but that's the extent of most wired remotes.

Nice Remote
rkloeppel from Waterloo, Il on 4/21/2014
I bought this to use with the Clarion M303 Marine Receiver. I am typically fishing from the front of the boat and having to get down and adjust the volume or change songs was a pain. I have used this now several outings and I really like it.
Pros: Works well from anywhere on the boat.
Cons: Wish it came with a wrist band.

Not waterproof
Joe B from Austin TX on 7/30/2013
I had the remote for one afternoon. It was quick to set up and seemed to work fine. It fell off the back of the boat into the water. I retriveed it withen 45 seconds. It did float, but pretty much stopped working right away. I did not know if it was the remote or the antenna adapter. A couple of days later I went back out to the boat to check the connections and all was good. I took the remote apart to check the battery and found moisture and corrision all inside, pretty much shot!!!!! I talked to Crutchfield and they were great. They are sending me a new remote. I will be carefull not to let it drop in water. And of course my common sence would tell me to not let it get wet, waterproof or not. Still frustrated though, cause I feel it is not at all waterproof, and at this price its pretty pricy.
Pros: Simple to connect
Cons: NOT WATERPROOF

RF Remote works Great
Terry I from Chicago, IL on 5/16/2013
The RF remote works great, My stereo if on the Fly Bridge of the boat and when in port at the dock it was a pain to have to jump on the boat and turn the stereo up or down. The IR remote was no good due to the placement of the stereo, however the RF remote works Awesome!! Has a very good range and is compact.
Pros: good range works from anywhere no direct sight of stereo needed compact size
Cons: a bit pricy

Love It!
VASKI from Deltaville, VA on 4/23/2012
Saw this and was a bit worried about how it would really work with my tuner down in the salon of my express cruiser. Also had to wait as the item was on back order and after finally receiving it I now know why. IT WORKS! I can be outside the boat on the dock and still change songs and adjust my volume etc. For a long time I hated that my stereo remote was the old round unit by the helm station, that meant whenever I was anywhere else relaxing and a song came on I wanted to skip, or the volume needed adjustment I had to get up.. no more! Highly recommended and I have no issues with the range. Best upgrade to my sound system to date..
Pros: Great range, easy to use, plug and play.
Cons: Bit small and the mounting bracket included is a bit funky
