Product Research

Features

Compatibility: The MW1 is a hardwired remote control with an LCD display that is compatible with the following Clarion marine head units -

  • CMD Series: CMD6, CMD7, CMD8, CMD9
  • CMS Series: CMS1, CMS5, CMS20
  • CMV Series: CMV1
  • M Series: M303, M309, M502, M505, M508, M606, M608

Functions: The MW1 has backlit rubber buttons with the following functions:

  • Power/Source
  • Volume Up/Down
  • Up/Down/Left/Right Cursor buttons
  • Enter
  • Play/Pause/Mute
  • Menu/Band

LCD Display: The display briefly shows the volume when it's changed, and can be set to show the time of day or source information; chapter/track, elapsed time, song title (for iPod and CDs with CD Text), band (AM/FM), frequency, and preset number.

Wiring: The attached 12" cable on the MW1 connects to the back of the head unit. Because the attached cable is only a foot long, in most cases an extension cable will be needed (item number 020MWRXCRT, sold separately). Up to three extension cables can be daisy-chained together.

Note: The MW1 can be used in conjunction with Clarion's MF1 marine RF remote control (020MF1, sold separately). This type of setup requires a proprietary Y-adapter (020MWRYC, sold separately).

Durable: The MW1 meets ASTM B117 salt/fog exposure and ASTM D4329 UV exposure standards.

Flush Mount: The remote comes with an aluminum flush mount C-clamp. The clamp attaches to the two M4 machine screw studs on the back of the remote and holds it in place.

Remote Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 3.607"
  • Cutout Diameter: 2.994"
  • Mounting Depth: 2.255"
  • Mounting Height: 0.603"

Depends on how old your talking about. I replaced the remote on our older Clarion ( 7 years old ) and it worked just fine. Plugged right in with no problems. You might want to check with the product experts before you buy.

Q
I have the M505 and MW1 remote. I cannot get the back light to turn off on the MW1. I have the yellow (memory) going straight to battery power. The orange (illumination) and red (power) are tied to switched power. As soon as I connect my battery, the M505 stays off but the MW1 lights up. The only way I can make the back light go off is to disconnect the yellow. Disconnecting the orange doesn't make a difference. Does anyone know what the issue could be?

I'm not sure. You have to check how many pins are on the output on the radio.
[ Michael  Apr 11, 2016 ]
A
Yes it will work fine with the M303. I would however suggest to also look at the MF1 handheld remote which works very well.

I'm Considering purchasing this MW1 remote plus the M505 receiver. I can find installation instructions for the receiver but not the remote. Can you tell me where I can find a copy of the installation instructions for the remote?

I get that part. How big is the mounting hole? Does it need to be grounded? I'd really like to see the installation instructions before I buy it. Can't seem to find them anywhere.

A
IF the remote is compatible its plug and play.

I'm wondering if the Clarion MW1 units are sealed better today? I have purchased 2 in the past and neither lasted a year. Both developed condensation inside the display and stopped working.

I have not seen any major changes though I do know a few people that had these and had minor issues with fogging. Is this on the transom and if so does it see too much water? Ours is under a hardtop so humidity and quick wash down is all it sees. Maybe take a look at mounting to see if it's all sealed properly etc. my buddies transom mount he ran a bead of caulk around the outside to keep water penetration to a minimum. Hope I helped.

Just Trying To Find Out If These MW1 Remotes Have The Extra Terminal On The Back? I See That Some Online Have It And Some Don't. Also Just Wanted To Confirm That This Terminal Connection Is For Adjusting The Brightness Of The Display. Thanks!

Thanks guys. I know a lot of the remotes only have the one big wire coming out of the back, but some people I have talked to have an extra terminal in the back (including ones on other sites). I was hoping to find some input on if the terminal is for the brightness (my old clarion remote had one). I want to buy it from Crutchfield along with everything else though, but they still have not been able to tell me why it's there and why theirs doesn't have it. The issue is because of how bright the glare is when boating down the river at night. Thanks again for your replies.
[ Joe  May 05, 2014 ]
A
Hello, the MW1 has only the one main wire out the back that plugs directly in to the clarion head unit. There is no extra terminal for display brightness. If it helps, my MW1 is mounted on the outside of my boat right at the swim platform and it has the perfect amount of backlighting. I have no trouble seeing the display in any light. Rick

Joe, the 1 I bought recently only has a single plug out. Not sure what u mean about the brightness
