It works with your smartphone and Clarion's Smart Access app to let you access the cloud, where you'll tap into the info and entertainment sources you need, like email, news, and weather. Clarion's Smart Access keeps your apps close at hand

When you download Clarion's free Smart Access app to your phone, you'll have access to several apps that work within the Smart Access ecosystem. Connect your phone to the NX605, and you'll get fingertip control over those apps through the receiver's screen. To employ Smart Access, you'll need:

Apps for social media, streaming audio, GPS navigation, traffic, and more are currently available (see below), and most require no additional charges to use them. As more apps are added to the Smart Access platform, Clarion automatically updates the Smart Access app, so you'll gain more functionality without having to do anything. And you can choose which apps you see on the receiver's main menu screen, for easy access on the go.

Your favorite apps right in your dash

Apps you can currently use through Smart Access and the NX605 include:

• Social media like Facebook and Twitter
• Traffic by INRIX and Waze (both Android only — Waze works for iPhone, but only with parking brake engaged)
• Navigation by MotionX-GPS Drive (iPhone only)
• Internet radio: iHeartRadio (iPhone only), and TuneIn Radio (Android only)
• Personal: email, calendar, news, and weather

Clarion NX605 navigation receiver

Clarion Intelligent VOICE™ simplifies spoken searches

Clarion's Intelligent VOICE software delivers relevant results quickly and with less input information than most other voice-recognition platforms on the road, thanks to incorporated Google Voice technology. If you're looking for nearby Chinese, you won't need to go through multiple steps such as "vicinity search," then "restaurant," then "Chinese" — you can just say "Chinese restaurant nearby" and the NX605 will perform an immediate search for top-rated Chinese spots in your area. You can then choose one from the list and the receiver will guide you right to it. If you're synced with your Google account, you can even pull up destinations from within your emails or calendar.

The NX605's Intelligent VOICE provides an interface with your synced Gmail account, so you can compose emails to others from behind the wheel just by speaking aloud.

Intelligent VOICE doesn't even need you to have a complete thought to know what you're looking for. You can use natural language to ask for a search, and the receiver will find close matches based on up-to-date Google searches. Say "I want to see a game" to the NX605 and you'll soon be looking at a list of nearby ballparks, sports arenas, and stadiums. Or just say "I'm hungry" and get a comprehensive list of area restaurants. Gone are the days when you had to depend on antiquated searches that required exact phrases or precise language to get any results at all — with the NX605, you can look for things with only partial information or mispronounced words, and you'll likely get a solution within seconds.

Send a text without typing

Android users can just say "SMS" and be able to compose a text to one of their phone contacts through the NX605 without typing. The NX605 can also read incoming texts aloud for Android users. For either Android or iOS, the receiver can make calls using voice commands, as well as read incoming emails from synced Google accounts. This Clarion can also display Google calendar information on its display.

Clarion NX605 navigation receiver

Check out the road ahead

The NX605's 6.2" touch display gives you a great view of its built-in maps by TomTom of all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Want to explore? You'll have 11 million points of interest at your disposal. 3D mapping puts realistic views of terrain, buildings, and landmarks in some metro areas in sight. The display also supports "flick" operation, just like your smartphone. You can drag and drop animated menu icons that'll give your dash a little personality, while allowing you to prioritize functions and A/V sources.

Be aware of congestion

The receiver's built-in TMC receiver keeps you up to date with traffic along your route in most cities. You'll have a handle on potential delays as they develop, and you can ask the receiver to find a better route to your destination. Best of all, these updates require no additional subscription fees.

Bluetooth® for hands-free calls and streaming music

Built-in Bluetooth lets you talk hands-free on your compatible phone so you can keep your hands on the wheel. When a call comes in, you can tap the screen to answer the call and hear your caller over the speakers. And you can even stream tunes if your phone or other device supports it. The NX605 includes an external mic to pick up your end of the conversation with maximum clarity.

Incorporate your smartphone even without Smart Access

Connect a compatible Android smartphone to the NX605 with an HDMI cable to enjoy the receiver's Android compatibility, which allows you to see the display of your smartphone right on the receiver's 6.2" display. When you're parked, you'll be able to enjoy photos and high-definition video, surf the web, and view your phone's apps on the receiver's screen.

Apple users can enjoy direct iPod® and iPhone audio control with a simple USB connection or via Bluetooth. iPhone 5 and newer users will need to add a couple of more adapters, including an HDMI cable and an Apple Lightning™ Digital AV Adapter to get full access to audio and video content from their device.

Hit the road with Pandora

Take your Pandora stations with you — run the free Pandora app on your phone and control it from the NX605's touchscreen. You can skip tracks, change stations, and thumbs up/thumbs down songs just like you do online. For the iPhone, you'll need a USB or Bluetooth connection; Android phones control Pandora via Bluetooth.

Awesome radio

The NX605 features a built-in HD Radio™ tuner which allows you to hear improved fidelity and reception from participating AM/FM stations all over. The receiver also features a connection for an optional SiriusXM satellite radio tuner, so you can enjoy programming with your subscription.

Unique technology

Clarion's unique sound technology makes your music sound great. Their "Intelligent Tune" technology includes Vocal Image Control, which lets you "move" the vocal to different seats in your vehicle. The NX605 also includes Sound Restorer, which brings the quality back to compressed audio files. You can choose from six preset tone settings, or make your own using the 6-band graphic equalizer.

A/V options at your disposal

The NX605 lets you expand your entertainment options with a wealth of connection points. You'll find a USB input on the receiver's back panel, useful for plugging in a dedicated MP3 player or a flash drive, and you can use the front 3.5mm A/V input and rear RCA A/V inputs for hooking up external sources. With the help of an optional adapter cable, you can add a rear-view camera for an extra layer of safety.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Junk

Crutchfield customer from Abilene, TX on 10/9/2017

    2007 Ford Mustang

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This is far from the first item I've purchased from Crutchfield, but it's the only one I'm going to pan as junk because it the first one that has turned out to disappoint so badly. Piece of garbage. Unfortunately I bought this for a car that I was customizing and the process actually ran me past the one year warranty. 1. Very slow start up and response time 2. Controls are not intuitive 3. Intermittently cuts out randomly regardless of source (CD, bluetooth, radio...) 4. Intelligent Voice and Smart Access don't work 5. Tried to update the firmware but it won't recognize the SD micro card. Called tech support who said it has to be formatted in FAT32. Yea. THe format that was discontinued in 2006 and is no longer recognized by any current Windows operating systems. No no no. I can get it formatted in FAT32 but going to the command line. But Windows 7 doesn't allow me to USE IT in that format. 6. Support is not great I have like a $600 poorly functioning radio with a slow reaction GPS unit. My fault for letting it sit on the shelf until I was finished with the car, but the thing is junk.'ll never spend a dime on Clarion again.

Pros: When it plays normally, sounds ok, not mind blowing.

Cons: 1. Very slow response time 2: Not intuitive 3. Intermittently cuts out 4. Intelligent Voice and Smart Access do not work 5. SD card reader will not recognize SD card (requires FAT32 formatting) 6. Clarion support is nothing to write home about

    Nice sound system, but...

Brian from Ft Worth, TX on 6/2/2017

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Has great sound and a lot of features on the sound end of things to tailor the system to the sound you want but I hate the navigation end of it. Details on that in the cons section. Also, the system is slow to react to input. For example, when I'm entering an address, it takes too long between entering letters or numbers into the system so you can type the next one. It's not like typing on your phone or laptop. There is a noticeable (and annoying) pause after entering each letter and number. It's not as bad as the nav system in my 2015 Escape though.

Pros: Sounds great and a lot of features on the sound end of things.

Cons: I hate the navigation system. I wish they would tell you more details on the nav system these stereos have. My GPS gives me land marks to look out for and street names, this thing just says 'make a right turn in 1,000 feet.' (like I know how far 1,000 feet is while I'm driving) and 'make a slight right turn' when getting off the highway. The Android integration could use a lot of work too. It's basically nonexistent for Androids.

Purchased an open box nx605, thought the saving would be worthwhile. Appearance was excellent. The unit works ok. It does have intermittent problems with the touch screen which are each time resolved by turning my ignition off and back on. Calls to Clarion were not at all helpful. Crutchfield has been more than excellent in dealing with all questions during installation and say they will replace unit if I deem it necessary. I will happily deal with Crutchfield again for my purchases, but will probably avoid Clarion.

Great product - clunky voice controls.

    Verified customer (What's this?)
    Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Great product and a very big upgrade from my Toyota Tacoma factory radio (no JBL). It is a little dated - no apple or android auto and the voice control nav and text is a little clunky. But, it plays my iPod through USB great, talk on the phone through bluetooth very well and XM radio. No real complaints! Of course, Crutchfield telephone support was required to complete the install as the manufacturer instructions are lacking. I called three times along the way and go it done. I had to dig up a DVD to test that out - I don't even know if DVDs are still made!! It can play video from iPod but I have not checked that feature yet. ***Note: Clarion tech support is non-existent. I called them and their computer answering service referred me to a "local" dealer. When I was connected to them, that dealer told me he no longer sold Clarion product and that the company had gone exclusively to online sales and no longer supported product through local dealers. Weird. Best to just go with Crutchfield.

Pros: Great upgrade from factory radio. Good sound controls - custom EQ settings and other enhancements.

Cons: Dated interface. No android auto/apple. No support from manufacturer.

Works as expected, sound is slightly better than the stock system I had in my 2011 Legacy. Would have liked to see more smartphone apps work with it. I am still in the feeling out phase, but so far it works well and was a decent value.

Pros: Works as expected, good sound, good navigation. Crutchfield support is second to none! That alone should convince you to buy from them!!!

Cons: Touch screen is somewhat slow to respond to your touch, as reviews state. No real problem, just be patient.

Installed into my 2007 pontiac g6 gt sedan with monsoon, looks amazing. Good responsive touchscreen only lags a little when booting up or if your multi tasking but not that bad. Easy to follow manual and comes with a disc manual as well. Navigation works great even warns you if your speeding and what the posted limit is, good for if you travel in unfamiliar areas.

Pros: Makes stock speakers sound amazing brings them to life, but I'm also replacing stock speakers soon can't wait. Easy install, quick responsive touch screen (you don't have to push on screen light touches is all you need).

Cons: Had to purchase back up cam adapter with that came with the unit but that's ok not many people have back up cams

I had to replace my old Clarion because the satellite receiver stopped working. I basically just found something that would fit with minimum hassle and bought it with a new satellite receiver. Wow, what a difference! This unit has so many features (besides navigation) it boggles the mind. My favorite feature is the simulated surround sound which makes my cheap speakers in my 2006 Taco sound better than my BMW's stereo. Just for the record, I did not install the back up camera. I bought this just for the radio part, the navigation, bluetooth, and all the other features are just a bonus to me. So far the navigation works pretty well, not the best interface, lots of steps to stop navigation. Still haven't figured out how to tune and store the FM staions.

Pros: A lot of features Great sound easy install

Cons: A lot of features that require to read the owner's manual A huge owner's manual that is on a CD Controls not intuitive

Really disappointed in this product. Bought it as a Christmas gift for my wife and she's asking me to rip it out and put the stock unit w/o GPS back in so she can use the head unit. The angle the display site at makes it nearly impossible to read the display from glare during the day. The knob to adjust volume doesn't stick out much, so when she reaches to adjust the volume, her fingers usually bump the touch screen, which generally has the effect of changing the radio station or audio source. The navigation system leaves much to be desired. The interface is anything but intuitive. She couldn't use it until we sat down and walked through it a few times. Even with it working, it routes unusual and inefficient routes to the destination. Sound quality is OK, but nowhere near as good as the quality I've gotten out of Alpine or Pioneer head units in the past. I wasn't sure about this from the start. I'd never owned a Clarion, but I wasn't about to drop hundreds for a mediocre rated Alpine or Pioneer with GPS. I ordered it anyways because of the 4 star rating here at Crutchfield. I seriously regret this decision. It is the worst head unit I've owned/operated. My wife prefers the stock Jeep 130N unit she had prior. She pointed out today that the Jeep 430N I have in my car is actually designed much better than this unit. Don't waste your money.

Bought as a replacement for a 2006 MB C280 Comand system that went bad. First stereo bought was the Soundstream VRN-65HB, had very poor reception. Crutchfield service returned it and I got the Clarion. The system works as it should, a little slow at start up. Voice rec on the Iphone 5 is not that good but on my Samsung 6 work just fine. Have been using for a month and no issues, sounds great, Nav works fine. Got the Sirius XM upgrade and works fine. Overall very pleased with the Clarion and the price. I was also able to connect the steering wheel controls. Also to note: I did know it was last years model, all you have to do is Google and can find other prices/ compare, this is why is on sale.

    Pros: Crutchfield service. Good value.

Cons: Needs better I phone connect.

I bought this receiver & installed it in my 2016 Subaru WRX. I just finished the install about a week ago & since this is not my DD I haven't had too much time to play with it but this is my initial thoughts on this. So far I like it, it has so many things you can do with it. The only thing I really didn't like with it is that it's kind of slow, especially on start up. The GPS takes a while to load. I've installed many aftermarket radios & this by far was the most time consuming & technical. Not because of the radio but because if the new car & I was able to retain all of the factory equipment to work with the radio (Steering wheel controls, backup camera, USB port). After the install I downloaded & installed the update from Clarion which improved the laggyness considerably but it's still has a bit. Overall a very nice unit. Oh one more thing, the harness for the backup for the back up camera doesn't come with the unit, which I though was stupid, I had to shell more plus shipping to get it because I didn't know. I guess I missed it when I placed the order.

Pros: Nice Layout Tons Of Options Price for a Decent Navigation Unit

Cons: Slow to respond Long boot time Does not come with back up camera harness

Not happy with this selection. I relied on the expertise of the Crutchfield staff and that was my mistake. This unit not only took forever to install with the steering wheel controls (that still do not work completely) but the unit itself takes 68 seconds from the time my truck starts to music playing. That's just annoying. The touchscreen feels like its the first touchscreen technology ever invented in that it take about two seconds for each "touch" to respond. That's a lot of fun when trying to type in an address. Also, do not expect to see the unit during the day without turning off the auto light and the clock is almost non existent. This is a horrible product for the amount of money i spent. The secondary person I talked to at Crutchfield was very nice but this recommendation from the initial staff member was not good. Do yourself a favor and look for a different HU.

Pros: It fit in the dash?

Cons: Horrble startup delay, bad touch reszponse, small clock, hard to see. The smartapp thing is a joke also.

This a 2 part review of the product and Crutchfield's Customer Support. Please read fully. First off I purchased this unit due to its good ratings and discounted price. Unit worked fine for a day or so than bluetooth would not stay connected to mine or my wife's phone, both Samsung Galaxy's. Talked to customer support and they overnighted another unit to me. Installed second unit and not only did the bluetooth not work with either phone, nor an Ipod, but it had a pixel out in the screen. Both units were manufactured in January and March of 2015 which means they had been sitting around for Almost 2 Years. Unit was listed as a "top seller". I doubt that due to the age of units I received. "Top Seller" and big discount probably equals left over stock and time to dump units. Anyhow I was pretty peeved about the whole situation and would never recommend Clarion due to this. So I talk to customer support again and they suggested going to another brand. I ended up getting a Pioneer 5200nex. Crutchfield's Customer Support is second to none. They went above and beyond to try to resolve issue. I cant say enough good things about them. Top notch in my book.

    Pros: Crutchfield's outstanding customer service.

    Cons: Never worked correctly.

The head unit is just what I was looking for. It has great sound and the navigation is great. I was interested in the Bluetooth mostly for listening to music and XM Radio on line. The best part of the purchase was Crutchfield's website. I entered my vehicle model and year and it showed me the radios that fit and all installation items I would need. They also had videos. Great experience

The NX605 is a nice unit. Everything works like it should. The Bluetooth with intelligent voice system is a nice feature for hands fee communication. Clarion software and navigation updates were easy and seamless. The best part of this whole procedure was working with Crutchfield. After some issues with another unit, we decided on the NX605 as a replacement. The support people could not have been more helpful in getting me the things I needed to make the installation possible. It is rewarding to know that this company actually cares and supports their customers. I will do business with Crutchfield again

Pros: Good unit for the money. Great Compant

A great unit! With Crutchfield guides it was not difficult to install, with recommended accessories I kept all my steering wheel controls. Firmware and maps update was very easy to do. The radio looks nice and classy in my Jeep. It is also a well known brand. Sounds is excellent, and the screen has anti glare, which is great for visibility. I also love that this unit has a power/volume knob. Additionally, it has GPS with Traffic, and the GPS and radio integrate well. The unit has HD radio, which is very nice, especially in metropolitan areas where you can find a large quantity of HD radio stations. Yo can put your music in an MicroSD card and play it from the radio (I could use 32 GB but not 64 GB memories). DVD's play well. The connection to a rearview camera and Sirius XM was flawless, the bluetooth for phone calls works well. The GPS seems to work really well, the antenna seems strong. Intelligent voice works over bluetooth alone, but the system is a bit clumsy. The interface for phone calls is a bit basic. The radio takes some time to start, but it is not too bad. The GPS interface is good, but not as optimal as a Garmin interface. I have not tried to use smart access to connect to my smartphone, but I do think that there are better options in the market is this is your first priority. Overall, this is an awesome deal, this radio packs lots of features at a very convenient price here at Crutchfield. Other radios with these features could easily cost more.

Pros: - Nice looks - Good price - Matte screen, volume knob - GPS with Traffic - Works for phone calls and Intelligent Voice using Bluetooth only (no cables needed) - Easy connection to rearview camera (adaptor needed) and SiriusXM module

Cons: - Intelligent Voice is slow - GPS interface could be a bit more user friendly - Phone call interface could have more options - Does not have the option to customize background

Sounds great, but software is buggy

Overall sounds great, works with the factory subwoofer, and kept the steering wheel controls. I wanted to give it 5 starts based on the sound and functionality, but I couldn't. So why a 3 rating? Buggy software. Installed the latest firmware Ver.027, but did not resolve the issues. Issue 1 is related to Bluetooth streaming audio. It streams just fine, but on the screen it only displays the very first song. Even 10 songs later, it still displays only the first song. I saw this posted elsewhere on this model and I was confident the firmware upgrade would fix it, but to no avail. Second issue still related to Bluetooth. When my wife drives the car, she must go into the settings menu and manually select her iphone. And then when I drive it I have to go into the settings and manually select my iphone again. This is automated on every other stereo. Most likely a bug with this software version, but is definitely a big inconvenience. The third issue is with smartaccess. The voice commands don't work unless the car is parked. The smaraccess is quite useless if you have an iPhone. As an iPhone user I planned on just using it via Bluetooth, but it is crippled as the display won't display the songs played. And the rest of the convenience features are also buggy. What works well is the sound quality; and the navigation is just ok (too many steps and levels to dig through to get to options you need. Again just overall mediocre in terms of software

Pros: Great sound, kept steering wheel controls and factory subwoofer

Cons: Buggy software, streaming Bluetooth audio doesn't display correct song, and general Bluetooth connectivity issues; and SmartAccess quite useless (especially with iPhones)

I am really impressed with the unit. I love the way it connects with my phone (Android) and plays the music on my phone. The backup camera picture is crystal clear. The mounting instructions left a bit to be desired. My oem cd changer had a plastic post at the rear to support the back end of the unit, but no post included in the mounting kit. I had to remove the post, remove the back cover plate from the Clarion unit, drill the existing hole larger and mount the post to the Clarion unit. The installed unit is now solid as a rock. Still learning about the features but I really like it.

This was very easy to install, the instructions were easy to understand and all the wiring was a breeze. The screen looks very nice and the maps seem to work quite well, even without an update. The sound quality is excellent and it works near flawlessly with my phone.

Pros: Wiring was fantastic, I really like the amp and preamp outputs. The screen is nice, the maps are good and the lighting is very nice with not to much but more then average, and the sound quality is fantastic.

Cons: Startup is a little slow (40 seconds according to somewhere) and it seems to have a hiccup at random intervals, especially right after startup. But considering I havny talked to support yet I can't really complain about that. It may need an update or it could be Bluetooth version, I don't know.

I bought this unit almost a year ago had it professionally installed by a clarion dealer, the problem I have is the sound goes from normal sound then cuts down reduced sound it is irritating. I took it back to the installer they said that it did this because the HD was on and the station here is not a true HD station so they said to shut the HD off. I did this and I thought it fixed it, but it still does this I really don't drive this car to much so I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot if it does it while in cd mode

Excellent receiver with intuitive menus. I am impressed with the quality of the sound in my Avalanche with the original 2004 Bose system speakers. With all the recommended Crutchfield accessories and wiring harness, the install was very much plug and play. I am having some difficulty with the hands free app. This unit has color led backlite output that can be changed to match the OE dash so that it looks like it belongs there. The screen is sharp and clear, the touch sensitivity is great. Since I am near a large city (Houston) I am enjoying the HD radio "multi cast" feature.

But worked better with my Samsung phone when doing the Bluetooth stream with Pandora when I got a new Iphone it cuts out a lot and i have to restart the app. Calls are clear. The Navi is good but the traffic notifications not so much. Its slow to respond to the touch when you first start it up but after that its good. To me its a great product but maybe just a firmware update from being a 5 star

So far so good. This is in my wife's Corola and hasn't been used it too much yet. Installation was straight forward and had no problems. I have installed many stereos in the past but this was my first nav unit with a back-up camera. It was the most complicated install but I knew that going in. Crutchfield puts together a great package and is there to help if needed. The most challenging part was the back-up camera. Routing the wires can be a challenge going from the back to the front . I just followed the release cable for the trunk and zip tied the wires to it and followed them along the drivers seat to under the dash. You will need to remove some interior panels so don't let that scare you. Once the wires are ran to the opening for the unit you should be good to go. Once I finished the installation it didn't seem to take too long to boot up as others claimed. Menus are straight forward and had no problems pairing up an iPhone 5s. So far I'm happy.

Purchased it a few weeks ago for two reasons: continuous update on the navigation and the fact that this Clarion was specifically made to work with android. After installing the unit, I have tried countless time to have my spotify play via bluetooth and it would not work. I had Crutchfield send me another unit thinking the one I got was defective somehow, WRONG!! Both units are on they way back to Crutchfield now. Safe to say I won't be looking at a Clarion anymore. DVD player worked great, sounded awesome with my Bose speakers, navigation worked as it was supposed to, back up camera worked well, I was able to use the bluetooth for calls, but I was unable to answer the call using the SWC. However, I was able to terminate the call using the SWC. If you care about playing music via bluetooth then I would not recommend this product. I have a Note 5 if that matters.

Only had the unit in the car for 2 months, but outside a lag in starting up its a great product. Install took about 3-4 hours including removing the old one, everything was easy to work with, the sirius antenna in my car works with the adapter sent in with the Clarion. So far nothing but clear music from phone via BT and sirius xm. Havent used the FM/AM yet. CD sound is also better than the stock that came with car. Navigation is good, takes some time playing with it in the driveway to get it set up to your personal preferences. Will take time to get all your preferences set up, invest time to play with it and you will get more out of it.

Pros: Easy Install Crystal Clear sound Functional Screens Quality BT connection to phone for media Navigation is better than some standard sets on new cars

Cons: Slow Start Up Cant change equalizer from BT or Sirius Screens directly without going through 3-4 screens (that I have found)

I installed right before a long trip so I was not familiar with it. The gps is not as intuitive as the garmins I have had but it works good. Antenna is mounted near the roof, receives with no problems. Once I got more familiar with it I really like it. Wish the stereo had more power. Also should come with adapter for backup camera instead of $20 extra. Haven't used dvd or cd player. Hooked up XM radio & backup camera & they both work great. This is my first bluetooth unit. Love it for phone calls while driving.

Pros: Good price for everything I wanted.

Cons: You need to study the manual to get the most benefit from all the features.

The install was very straight forward, soldered all the wires to the PAC C2R-CHY4 wiring harness, the master sheet provided by Crutchfield helped a lot through out the installation process, having some issue's with updating the maps using Clarion's Naviextra software, but I am working with them to resolve this issue. I have read reviews it is slow booting up, it is slow but nothing that is terrible. The backup camera is available instantly upon switching into reverse. It takes about 40sec to connect to my S7 Edge via bluetooth to start playing music after bootup is complete. So far I am very happy with my purchase and it sounds good with the stock speakers in the vehicle. Thanks to Crutchfield for a great product and helpful information included with the purchase.

Pros: Price, features, ease of install

Cons: Naviextra software for updates giving me trouble

I bought this based on a very positive experience with my Clarion NX404 in my truck. Firstly, the Crutchfield experience was great. Price was competitive with amazon for the full kit. I had a question on the steering wheel controls, and the Crutchfield rep talked me through it with no problems. Install was easy in a 2000 F-body. One nice thing is all the wires have plugs in to the back of the unit. Meaning, you only have to plug in what you're going to use. That saves a lot of room in a cramped dashboard. As expected, the sound is great. This is a significant improvement in the factory monsoon setup. There are no issues with the navigation. Startup time is reasonable, although a bit on the slow side. I'd guess 30 seconds or so. The single most infuriating thing is that skipping in shuffle mode doesn't give you a shuffled skip. It plays the next song in alphabetical order. This may sound like a nit, but this is not the expected behavior for any system anywhere in shuffle mode. If you're on shuffle, and don't want to hear artist A today, too bad, you have to skip through all of artist A's songs 1 by 1 to get to artist B. I'm convinced this is a bug in the firmware. There's no way this can be a feature. Secondly, unlike my previous clarion nav unit, there's no way to rearrange the on screen selections. Don't have Sirius or an Ipod? Too bad. That's what's on page 1, whether you like it or not. All that's wrong with the NX605 can be fixed in firmw

Pros: Great sound Easy install Good navigation and great looking maps

Cons: The immensely aggravating behavior of track skipping in shuffle mode. Unable to rearrange activities on the screen Annoying nag screen every single time you start your car.

Install was not as easy as they made it sound. Albeit, I'm not mechanically inclined. Buy the unit is awesome. Features are awesome. My music sounds amazing. I was holding out for an alpine for the longest buy they are expensive. Took a chance in this one and nailed it. Exactly what I've been looking for. I'm happy with it. Still haven't told my wife I upgraded. She'll get jealous.

This is a nice looking unit. Installation was easy, but I apparently missed hooking something up to allow for certain functions. The device thinks that I am moving, so it will not allow me to set up intelligent voice access, nor play a dvd. Tech support emailed my the following: "When trying to watch a DVD or setting up the voice access on the clarion the parking brake must be applied. The parking brake wire is the light green wire on the back of the radio. You must run this to the parking brake of the vehicle. In the Scion there is only one wire at the parking brake switch (hinge point of the parking brake) & it is a Black wire". Another issue I have is the unbearably slow interface. Being use to using ipads, iphones, this thing is terribly slow! You'd think that it should be very responsive & quick, so you spend less time looking at it, & waiting for it to go to another menu page, & more time keeping your eyes on the road. The bluetooth is laggy. About 1.5 seconds of lag from the iphone 5s to the actual speakers. You can also hear a high pitch sound over the speakers, even when the unit is not switched on. It seems that the GPS is constantly pinging, & you can hear it operating through the speaker. A bit annoying while driving. The ground connection is good. I'm using all OEM equipment with no external amps. Back to the unbearably slow bit. I'd rather use my phone to navigate, rather than this terribly slow navigation system. It's like run

Pros: Looks nice. Good sound. HDMI, external input, Bluetooth. RCA outs for amps.

Cons: iOS on an iphone 1. It's crippling slow! I feel that it is a hazard for drivers. Not what I'd expect for the price Another issue is the boot time & startup screen. The first screen that comes up, when starting the car is all WHITE. It's blinding at night. Typically people turn their headlight on, after the car has started. Turning on the headlights will dim the screen. I'd almost be tempted to just get a small ipad, & do a custom dash for it. at least it would be a fast user friend safe alterna

Purchased this unit last month. The cable you need to fully have all the features operational is no longer made by Clarion, and you cant call anyone there to find out which cable you can get from another manufacturer to get it to work.

Pros: Ive only used it for 3 days, sounds great.

Cons: But the music is not the only reason i purchased it. I wanted smart access and voice activation.

Firstly, let me say that the NX605 sounded beautifully in my car. The unit did a wonderful job of producing vibrant and full tones throughout the entire spectrum, lows to highs. The problem was that more than half the time I had to fight with the unit to get it to play from my iPhone, and for that reason it only lasted four months before it had to go. I'm guessing that it's an iPhone issue since it's targeted for the Android user, but it does make accommodations for Apple and I thought that would be good enough. I was incorrect. In addition to extremely long boot times, It would often force me to start and restart Pandora multiple times before it would play. I discovered that the quickest way just to get music was to use bluetooth, but that option had only limited functionality, i.e. I have to use the phone itself to change station, skip ahead, etc. The NX605 controlled the phone best when connected with the USB, but even when connected, apps like iHeart Music were only usable with the vehicle stopped and the parking brake on. Otherwise only a safety message would display; I couldn't even see who was playing or change the station. That made NO sense. And Google Voice worked for me once. After that, I think it realized I had an iPhone and never worked again. To use it required an HDMI/USB setup, but the problem here was that setup didn't work with Pandora (only the iTunes library). This was also the setup for all the unit's apps too. Very disappointing.

    Pros: Great sound!

Cons: Long boot up sequence. Terrible iPhone interface experience. HDMI/USB setup eliminates the use of some apps, straight USB setup eliminates the use of other apps. Delay between iPhone signal and radio response, at least 2-4 second difference.

Installed this head unit in my 2002 F350 mainly for a stereo upgrade and rear view camera addition. Was very impressed with the capabilities of the nav system, and the DVD player was a complete surprise for the video and sound quality. My wife and I spent over an hour marveling at impressive "experience" even when compared to our in home system. The install was a little vague and the supplied owners manuals were not much help especially for a novice. I have 35 yrs. experience in electronics and only ran into one small problem which easily resolved by a quick call to Crutchfields knowledgeable customer support staff and I was back on track with the install in less that 1/2hr. The Sirius system, Bluetooth capabilities and Ipod/android were all straight forward plug and play, although I did require a little tutoring from my son as I am very old school and just plain old, but again it is all very well laid out in the internal menu and setup process of the Clarion unit when you are familiar with the technology. A couple of modifications were easily patched into the system. One regarding the video playback Park Brake safety lock out was easily curd with a momentary pushbutton switch wired to ground. The other mod was to mount toggle switch to the hot lead of the back up camera so that I have the ability to monitor my trailer while towing. It also serves as a replacement for my rearview mirror capability lost due to a bed cap blocking all rear vision except thru my side mirrors.

Pros: Excellent feature laden system with impressive audio and video. Inputs for most devices available with front and or rear access making for a professional factory installed appearance. Touchscreen with large easy to see features makes for safe operation while driving. Voice recognition "learns" and teaches quickly. Navigation response is fast and accurate so far (haven't driven over 100mi. yet).

Cons: Owners manuals a little shallow on the install directions although the wiring diagrams are well laid out. I had to call for support on what the "illumination" wire was for, thought I knew and did, but a simple explanation in the manual would have saved some time/effort. Bought a Clarion backup camera and still had to have Crutchfield send out an adaptor cable to install it. I feel that Clarion should have provided a compatible connection between their own products.

In general I am very happy with the Clarion NX605. I will not comment on the quality of the music since my ears are too shot to give a good review. I have used the AM/FM receives, including multicast channels and all worked great. The phone worked very well, sounds was good, I was able to call and answer calls. The phone book downloaded and updates (as per my setup). I was able to stream music from my daughters smart phone. I have NOT used any of the voice functions. I have connected the Ipad and Ipod to the unit and both worked well. The navigation works well. I have used it to guide me on trips in town and over interstates. I do have an issue with the alternate routes generated when a traffic event occurs. The alternate routes do not seem to provide any savings in time and sometimes require a very complicated path. i have not use it a lot so there is still a learning curve, however, right now I am not inclined to use it. The normal routing seems fine and GPS tracking is good. The only other issue I have had with the unit is it hung up (once), just like computers do sometimes. None of the function keys worked and the off button did not allow me to turn the unit off. Once I stopped the truck and power to the unit was shut off, it restarted fine. I believe it hung when I was changing from radio to navigation mode at the same time the unit was about to tell me the speed limit. I guess the two activities together got it confused. In general I am pleased

Pros: All functions tried work well.

Cons: Rerouting due to traffic event questionable. Unit hung on me once.

    Touchscreen + Remote Control

6.2" Touchscreen TFT Display: The Clarion NX605 has an integrated 6.2" TFT widescreen display with touchscreen controls. The display provides a high-resolution video monitor for watching your DVD videos. The screen has a resolution of 800 x 480 (RGB) and 1,152,000 total pixels. The unit's touchscreen panel features interactive controls making menu navigation easy.

    • Touchscreen GUI w/ Flick Control: The GUI (Graphical User Interface) shows large icons that are highly visible and easily recognizable at a glance. The NX605 touchscreen responds to your finger gestures just as your smartphone screen would. You are able to drag & drop icons into different positions to customize the screen. The touchscreen also supports flick operation, so you can quickly scroll to another menu page. In addition, you can pinch & zoom the map screen.
    • Short Cut Menu: The unit has a main menu for using all functions and a shortcut menu that groups together frequently used functions. Use of the shortcut menu allows you to quickly access frequently used functions. Up to five frequently used functions can be registered to the shortcut menu.
    • Dimmer & Brightness Control: The receiver's display automatically dims to a preset brightness when the vehicle's headlights are turned on. The wiring harness includes an orange/white lead that should be connected to the vehicle's parking light circuit in order for the dimmer feature to operate. You can also manually adjust the unit's Day & Night display brightness from 0-20.
    • Variable Button Illumination (728 colors): Since the vast majority of functions are controllable from the touchscreen, there are only four physical buttons (including a rotary dial) on the unit for the most basic and commonly-used functions. You can set the head unit's button illumination to 1 of 9 preset colors or have the unit scan through all the preset colors. You can also select three custom user colors by adjusting red, green, and blue values.

Note: To prevent the displaying of video while the vehicle is in motion, the bright green wire in the supplied wiring harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the other displays and menus. Video can only displayed when the vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you try to view video with the vehicle in motion, the head unit will simply display "CAUTION! Video is disabled for your safety".

Start Up Time: The NX605 has a start up time of approximately 40.1 seconds from Off to the Map Screen.

Anti-Theft Code: You may program the unit with a 4 digit security code. Once the unit has been programmed with a security code, the code must be entered to use the unit after it has been disconnected from power.

2-DIN Chassis: The Clarion NX605 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using your vehicle's factory radio brackets and the supplied hardware. There is also an optional custom double-DIN sleeve (0202DBKT, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to mount the NX605 in a custom 4" opening. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatible: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Optional Wireless Remote: The NX605 also supports Clarion's RCB198 IR remote control (sold separately) for wireless control of basic playback functions. The remote does not support advanced menu functions or navigation functions.

    Intelligent Voice + Smart Access

Intelligent Voice: The NX605 utilizes Clarion's Intelligent Voice technology to enable information searches and destination settings for navigation, as well as a link between your smartphone's contacts, text messages, calendar, and Gmail. For this service to work, you will need to download the Smart Access App (from Apple Store or Google Play Store) onto your Bluetooth paired iPhone (iOS 6.0+) or Bluetooth paired Android (OS 4.0+) smartphone.

    • Destination Search: Search for destinations by just saying what's on your mind, based on Google Voice recognition technology and Google's vast local search information. Unlike typical voice recognition systems that require precise wording, this new technology allows more natural language to find your destination. You no longer have to use a limited set of predetermined words or phrases; instead, this this system enables your search by saying out loud any words that come to mind, so even long phrases are possible. This app links to the Google server through your compatible smartphone and searches for your destination. Even if you only half-remember something or mispronounce it, Clarion Intelligent Voice still searches through a wealth of up-to-date Google local search information and presents to you the candidates that are the closest phrases. Once you ask the system of your destination, it will provide you with a list of possible options from Google Places, your Favorite Destinations, or your Destination History to choose from. Once you've decided on your destination, simply select Start Guidance and your calculated route will display on the NX605's on-screen map.
    • Phone & SMS: Telephone communication, as well as checking your SMS (Android only), can be activated by voice command using the NX605's Intelligent Voice feature.
    • Calendar & Mail: Connect using your Google Account, so you can access your Gmail and calendar from the NX605. Now you can check the emails received into your mail account and have your emails read out loud by the Clarion receiver. You can also have your calendar displayed on the navigation screen by voice command, allowing you to safely check your schedule while in the car. You can even use destination information inside calendar entries for navigation guidance.
Note: You can utilize Intelligent Voice from any screen or source on the head unit. Bluetooth audio streaming is turned off when "Intelligent Voice" is activated.

Smart Access via HDMI (for iPhone & Android): Download the newest version of Smart Access App (from Apple Store or Google Play Store) onto your HDMI-connected iPhone (iOS 6.0+) or Android (4.0+) smartphone in order to access a variety of online entertainment, navigation, news, weather, and social media services in your vehicle through the Clarion NX605, your smartphone, and the Cloud; all from an easy-to-use touchscreen interface optimized for in-vehicle use. Your Apple iPhone's or Android smartphone's battery will also be charged during this type of connection. Bluetooth audio is turned off when Smart Access is activated.

    • iPhone Connectivity: To connect your Apple iPhone (iOS 6.0+) with Lightning connector, you will need Apple's Lightning Digital AV adapter, Lightning-to-USB cable, and a mobile-grade HDMI cable (all sold separately); plus your iPhone will need to be paired to the head unit via Bluetooth. To connect your Apple iPhone 4/4S with 30-pin connector, you'll need Clarion's proprietary CCA-750 iPod/iPhone Video cable (020CCA750, sold separately); no Bluetooth pairing required.
    • Android Connectivity: To connect your Android (OS 4.0+) smartphone, you'll need a Soundstream or Dual HDMI/MHL cable (sold separately) which plugs into both the unit's HDMI input and USB port. In addition, your Android smartphone will need to be paired to the NX605 via Bluetooth. Check here for a list of compatible MHL-enabled Android phones.
Note: Your iPhone's touchscreen will be locked while connected via the Smart Access app. Your Android smartphone allows you to control the Smart Access app from your phone or the NX605. If you exit the Smart Access app on either phone, then the Smart Access app is also stopped on the Clarion navigation receiver.

Smart Access Apps: The Smart Access App contains a variety of entertainment, navigation, social media, news, and weather applications. When Smart Access is launched on your compatible iPhone or Android smartphone, a list of compatible apps will be displayed. Select the apps you want and they will be automatically downloaded from the appropriate app store onto your mobile phone. Once your compatible iPhone or Android smartphone is connected to the NX605, the Smart Access application allows the following apps to be accessible from the head unit's touchscreen. Fee may apply for use of certain applications within the Smart Access App.

    • Music & Radio: The Smart Access app contains a variety of entertainment apps that consist of music and radio for iPhone and Android.
      • Media4car (iPhone only): Media4car is a useful application that allows you to easily playback and view or listen to your favorite music and video files on your iPhone through your car's navigation system (video requires that the vehicle's parking brake is engaged). The large touch-panel screen allows you to make operations and view song/artist just as you would on a smartphone for ease-of-use in your car.
      • iHeart Radio (iPhone only): iHeartRadio lets you listen to more than 1,500 Live Stations from coast-to-coast or create your own artist- or track-based Custom Stations. Use popular features like iHeartRadio's Discovery Tuner and "Thumbs Up" and "Thumbs Down" functionality to fine-tune your Custom Station playlists. *The vehicle's parking brake must be engaged to access this app. Once you have selected your station from the head unit's touchscreen, you can release the parking brake for audio only through the Clarion system.
      • TuneIn (Android only): TuneIn has the world's largest collection of over 100,000 real radio stations playing live from around the world. Enjoy music, sports, news, talk, and live special events. Follow your favorite genres, podcasts, artists, sports teams and more. You are able to view song/artist information, as well a select stations and control playback.
      • Shuttle Music Player (Android only): The Shuttle Music Player lets you browse and listen to your Android smartphone's music library through the NX605. It is an intuitive music player offering powerful features like a built-in 6-band equalizer, gapless playback, lyrics support, and much more.
      • Pandora: The Pandora app cannot be accessed through the Smart Access Apps menu. You will need to select the Pandora app as a separate source on the NX605 (please see the Pandora app for iPhone & Android in section below).
    • Navigation & Driver Assistant: Within the Smart Access app are useful navigation and driver assistant apps to help you navigate along your drive.
      • Waze: Waze is a fun, community-based traffic & navigation app, 70 million strong. Join forces with other drivers nearby to outsmart traffic, save time & gas money, and improve everyone's daily commute. With community-generated real-time traffic, you'll always get the best route to your destination. With Android's Waze app, you are able to view the map screen on the NX605, as well as hear voice prompts through your car stereo system. You also get full control over the Waze app on your Android smartphone from the NX605 (all without the parking brake engaged). Onboard Navigation

IGO Primo Navigation Software w/ TomTom Maps: The map database (by TomTom) used by the Clarion NX605 was created using high-resolution aerial and land based data collection. Navigation data is stored on the unit's built-in flash memory for quick access and response. The NX605 provides map coverage of the United States (all 50 states), Canada, and Puerto Rico. The NX605's integrated IGO Primo navigation software provides turn-by-turn visual and voice assistance to direct you to your selected destination. The built-in software quickly calculates step-by-step directions to any destination available on the included navigation map.

Note: Car navigation maps are frequently updated. While this database was judged to be as accurate as possible at the time of its release, a map database can never be 100% accurate. Road information that is maintained in the map databases, such as turn restrictions or road names may change over time.

Map Updates: It is easy to keep the navigation system up to date via naviextras.com and your Windows PC (XP and newer). Simply download new map data from Clarion's portal site (clarion.naviextras.com), store the updated map data on a microSD card and insert it into the Clarion NX605 via the front-panel microSD card slot. You have 30 days from purchase to download the latest available map free of charge.

GPS (Global Position System): Clarion's built-in navigation helps you find your way to your destination with an integrated GPS receiver & external GPS antenna. The Clarion NX605 features a built-in SiRF GPS receiver and includes a GPS antenna which can be mounted on the dash with the included two-side tape. The NX605 uses Global Position System (GPS) satellites, and a digital roadway map database to calculate and display vehicle positioning and travel direction. The NX605 considers vehicle speed an heading changes, together with longitude and latitude information, to accurately determine vehicle heading and position on a digital map. Signal from GPS satellites are used to determine the vehicle location. Three (good) or four (best) satellites must be receive to accurately determine location. This unit does not transmit your GPS position, so others cannot track you.

Note: The navigation receiver took approximately 33.1 seconds to calculate directions from Virginia to California. It only took 9.7 seconds to calculate directions from Virginia to Maryland. These tests were done inside the Crutchfield Lab of the Crutchfield Headquarters. Results will vary based on length of calculated route and your surrounding area.

Traffic Message Channel (TMC): The Clarion NX605 contains a TMC (Traffic Message Channel) receiver that can provide you with the real-time status of the traffic along your route over the FM Radio Data System (RDS). If traffic is congested up ahead or there is a road closure, the navigation system will automatically re-navigate the route to show you how to get to your destination, quickly and easily. To fine-tune this recalculation, you can set the minimum delay that can trigger a route recalculation, or you can instruct the software to have you confirm the new recommended route before it takes effect. Road segments affected by traffic events are displayed with an alternate color on the map, and small symbols above the road show the nature of the event.

Note: TMC is not available in all cities.

On-Screen Map: The unit's on-screen map shows your vehicle's current position (a blue arrow by default), the recommended route (an magenta line), the surrounding map area, and your destination as a checkered flag. The on-screen map shows streets, roads, and highways in a way that is similar to how a paper road map show them. A road's width and colors corresponds to their importance, so you can easily tell a freeway from a small street. When navigating a route, the top section of the map screen shows information about your next route maneuver and the next street or the next city/town. When approaching a turn, the map screen will zoom in and raise the view angle to let you easily recognize your maneuver at the next junction. If the next turn is at a distance, it will zoom out and lower the view angle to be flat so you can see the road in front of you. The map also displays data; such as the posted speed limit, your current speed, current time, distance to your destination, time left before you reach your destination, and your arrival time.

    • 2D/3D Map Mode: The Clarion NX605 allows you to view its on-screen map in a 2D (two-dimensional) or 3D (three-dimensional) view. Similar to paper road maps, the 2D mode, shows you streets, roads, and elevation by color. In 3D mode, you can see the altitude and elevations differences. You can distinguish between valleys, mountains, and elevated roads. In selected cities 3D landmarks and 3D buildings are also displayed.
    • Color Mode: The navigation map screen uses different color themes (Day/Night) during the day and during the night for both the map and the menu screen. Daytime colors are similar to paper road maps, and the menus are bright. The nigh color themes use dark colors for large objects to keep the average brightness of the screen low. You can also set the navigation unit to switch between daytime and night color modes automatically based on the current time and GPS position.
Note: You can display the head unit's AV control bar during on-screen navigation in order to access frequently used audio/video playback functions.

Lane Information & Signposts: The Clarion NX605's navigation map offers helpful lane information & signpost guidance.

    • Lane Information: When navigation on multilane roads, it is important to take the appropriate lane in order to follow the recommended route. If lane information is available in the map data, the map screen will display the lanes and their directions using small arrows at the bottom of the map. High lighted arrows represent the lanes you need to take.
    • Signposts: Where additional information is available, signposts substitute arrows. Signposts are displayed at the top of the map. The color and style of the signposts are similar to the real ones you can see above the road or by the roadside, They show the available destinations and the number of the road the lane leads to.
    • Exit Services: While navigation a route, you can find gas, food, lodging, and restrooms near upcoming exits. Services are listed under the following categories - Gas, Food, Lodging, and Restrooms. You must be on a major highway or road to use this feature.
    • Junction View: If you are approaching a freeway exit or a complex intersection and the needed information exists, the map is replaced with a 3D view of the junction. The lanes you need to take are displayed with arrows. Signposts can also be present, if information is available.
    • Tunnel View: When entering a tunnel, the map is replaced with a generic tunnel image so that surface roads and buildings cannot distract you.

Audible Alerts: The Clarion NX605 offers various audible alerts and functions to help you get to your destination safely.

    • Voice Guidance (TTS): In addition to graphic directions, the NX605 provides voice guidance and audible turn-by-turn directions with pronunciation of street names. You can select from English, French, or Spanish audible languages. The volume of the voice prompts can be increased with increases in speed to overcome road noise. Voice guidance can be turned off if you prefer.
    • Safety Alert: This function can warn you when you approach road safety cameras, school zones, or railroad crossings (if available). You can also add your own alert points. Beeps or the spoken type of alert will be heard when you are approaching of these points.
    • Speed Limit Warning: Some maps may contain information about the speed limits of certain road segments. The NX605 provides an audible warning if you exceed the recommended speed limit.

Note: The unit will mute the audio of the other sources during navigation voice-prompts.

Where Am I?: This screen contains information about the current position (or approximately the last known position if GPS reception is not available) and a button to search for POIs and emergency assistance nearby.

    • Route Method: You can choose which route method (Fastest, Shortest, Green, Economical, or Easy) the navigation unit should use when calculating your route.
      • Fastest: give a quick route, if you can travel at or near the speed limit on all roads. Usually the best section for fast and normal cars
      • Shortest: gives a route that has the smallest total distance of all possible routes. It can be practical for slow vehicles
      • Green: gives a quick, but full efficient route based on the fuel consumption data you provide
      • Economical: combines the benefits of Fast and Short; calculates as if it were calculating the Fast route, but it takes other roads as well to save fuel
      • Easy: results in a route with fewer turns and no difficult maneuvers
    • Avoidances: You can tell the navigation unit to avoid certain types of roads along your calculated route, such as - Highways, Tolls, Carpool/HOV, Unpaved Roads, and/or Ferries.

24-bit D/A Converter: The unit's 24-bit D/A converter re-quantizes the 16-bit audio signals from CDs and DVDs as 24-bit data while maintaining the low distortion and high linearity of a 1-bit D/A converter. This allows an expanded dynamic range and clearer reproduction of subtle nuances, for a richer sound when viewing DVDs or listening to CDs.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Clarion NX605 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 watts total)
Note: The power specifications for the NX605 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

6ch/4V RCA Output + Sub Level Control: The Clarion NX605 features 6ch/4V RCA line level outputs (Front/Rear/Sub). The non-fading subwoofer preamp output features an independent level control (+/-6).

Built-in Crossovers: The Clarion NX605 is equipped with built-in low-pass and high-pass crossovers.

    • Low-Pass Subwoofer Filter: The Low-Pass Filter (LPF) for the subwoofer preamp output will send only the low frequency range through the preamp outputs to ensure superb performance with a connected subwoofer. The low-pass filter can be set to 50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, or Through (full-range).
    • High-Pass Filter: The NX605 features a High-Pass Filter (HPF) for the unit's front & rear channels, via speaker-output or preamp-output. You can adjust the high-pass filter from 50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, or Through (full-range). The HPF prevents low bass notes from distorting your front & rear speakers. The high-pass filter setting effects both the front & rear channels of the head unit.

Intelligent Tune: Clarion's sound technology was developed to turn the car interior into an excellent listening environment. "Intelligent Tune" includes Virtual Stage Enhancers for a bigger soundstage, Vocal Image Control to move the vocal to a specific seat in the car, Sound Restorer for full quality sound reproduction of compressed audio data, Virtual Bass for powerful bass without subwoofer, and other exciting sound technologies.

    • Graphic EQ: Choose one of six Preset EQ Modes (Bass.B, High.B, Acoustic, Impact, Smooth, or Flat) that best matches your style of music. Or, you can manually adjust the unit's 6-band graphic EQ (60Hz/250Hz/820Hz/1.6kHz/5kHz/16kHz) for a more custom sound. Save up to 3 customized user presets.
    • Virtual Stage Enhancer (VSE): Virtual Stage Enhancer keeps vocals in the foreground while creating a dynamic soundfield based on surround elements extracted from the source material. Instead of all the sound being focused on or around the driver's seat, VSE technology generates a more expansive soundscape similar to listening to classical music live at a concert hall.
    • Vocal Image Control: Clarion's Vocal Image Control allows you to precisely position the vocalist in the music for a powerful vocal and stage-like performance for all the occupants in the car to enjoy. The vocals can be adjusted front-to-rear and left-to-right in order to reproduce a more powerful vocal soundstage.
    • Sound Restorer: Restores compressed audio media, such as MP3 or WMA, closely to the original soundtrack to enable a more enriched, detail sound quality.
    • Volume Smoother: Volume Smoother automatically adjusts differences in volume level of all kinds of music sources and scenes and compensates the volume level. When Volume Smoother is on, the volume level is monitored and adjusted at all times, and differences in volume level are suppressed to a fixed range to enhance listening pleasure.
    • Virtual Bass: Enhances bass output in car stereo system for richer bass sound.
    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume.

Beep Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Audio/Video Connections

Dual AV Inputs: The Clarion NX605 is equipped with AV input terminals on the front and rear of the unit to enable enjoyment of content from an external connected source. The rear composite video/stereo RCA inputs are ideal for permanent installations, while the front AV mini-jack (3.5mm) input will come in handy for quick connection of a portable audio/visual source.

Video Output: The NX605 is equipped with a single composite video output for connecting a rear monitor (sold separately). The same source (DVD, AV input, or iPod video) will be displayed on the rear monitor's screen as displayed on the head unit's touchscreen monitor. HDMI sources cannot be displayed through the head unit's video output.

Optional Camera Input: Adding an optional rear-view camera (such as the 020CC520) to the NX605 requires the Clarion CCA-644 Rear Vision Camera input cable (sold separately). The cable has a proprietary connector on one end (which plugs into the proprietary camera port on the NX605) and a composite video jack on the other end which plugs into the optional backup camera. Once a rear-view camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the NX605's screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (purple/white wire of harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). In addition to the rear-view image, marker lines are displayed in order to assist you further while backing up.

I have the nx605. I don't know if it's the same or not. You have to pair it in settings, and if you have connected to any other Bluetooth device, you have to do it every time. Kind of annoying, but that's been my experience.

    A
Hi Larry, Do you mean: Does this unit have a detachable face? If that is your question, then the answer is No. Once you install the unit, it's done. When you leave your car, you see a blank screen. And once you turn the ignition on, it lights up.
    [ SIMON S  Sep 13, 2016 ]
    A
If by "mask" you mean a snap on plastic filler piece that attaches to the front of the double DIN unit, then yes it does. It is removable and it comes in the box unattached. I think it was pretty thin, and only filled in about 3/16 inch or so between the Clarion unit and the custom mount dash fixture that Crutchfield provided to adapt to my 2014 Sienna Dash.

No it does not. It is supposed to be able to work with the iPhone, but it is optimized for Android. I ended up selecting a different unit that had CarPlay because of this. The iPhone interface the of the Clarion NX605 was very slow to respond and connection was sometimes very intermittent. Very unfortunate since the sound of this unit was very very good.

How long does it take to boot up? Will it work instantly with back up camera or do you have to change a setting?

    A
Works instantly...as long as u wire it correctly.
    [ JOSHUA  Sep 13, 2016 ]
    A
For me the Clarion had an excessively long boot-up time. I didn't use the backup camera option, but in just waiting for the music to start, after leaving my house, I'd already be down the street and around the corner and at the second stop sign before the system made a peep. I'm an iPhone user, so I don't know if this was because the system is primarily for Android and there were compatibility issues or what, but the long boot up sequence was one of the reasons I switched to a different unit.

What are the specific differences between the NX604 and the NX605 products?
    [ D  Mar 11, 2015 ]
    1 answer
    A
According to Clarion, there is only one main difference between the two models. The NX605 includes enhanced Intelligent Voice by Google which provides a Gmail account interface so users can compose emails and SMS text messages verbally. The NX604's voice-recognition software can be used for hands-free destination searches, but will not work for email or texting. Otherwise the two models offer the same features.
