This versatile amp's dual line-level inputs let you enjoy sound from one main music source plus an additional "local" audio source, switching automatically between the two.

High-quality power for multi-room audio

The AudioSource AMP100VS stereo power amp makes a great choice for powering speakers in your multi-room sound system. Its low-distortion, high-current design really packs a punch for getting the most out of your music. This versatile amp's dual line-level inputs let you enjoy sound from one main music source plus an additional "local" audio source, switching automatically between the two.

Say you have a network audio player, such as a Sonos Port, as your primary source feeding the AMP100VS's main input. Any time you fire up the Sonos player, your AMP100VS turns itself on and sends the music to your speakers. Then, if you connect another music source like a CD player or a dedicated Bluetooth7reg; receiver to the secondary local "Interrupt" input, the amp will switch to that source whenever it senses an incoming music signal. When the CD or Bluetooth stops playing, the amplifier will automatically switch back to the Sonos component. There's no need to manually switch inputs.

Bridged mono mode for more power

The AMP100VS can power one or two pairs of speakers. Use it in stereo mode, or add a second amp and bridge them for a more powerful dual-mono setup. This amp's low-profile design makes it easy to place in a room where space is tight.

With loop output and 12-volt trigger input and output, the AMP100VS provides the power and flexibility to support a wide range of multi-room system configurations.

Product Research

Features

AudioSource Amp Series: AudioSource AMP series amplifiers are designed for home and commercial audio distribution systems where high quality sound, flexibility, and reliability are essential. The AMP series offers exceptional value and many features that will make their installation and use easy and convenient.

Stereo Power Amplifier: The AudioSource AMP100VS stereo power amplifier is designed for dedicated stereo & distributed audio applications. It offers A & B speaker outputs. The amplifier can be configured for Stereo or Bridged output.

  • Stereo (8-ohm): 50 watts x 2 channel, 10-30kHz, <0.2% THD+N
  • Stereo (4-ohm): 60 watts x 2 channel, 10-30kHz, <0.2% THD+N
  • Bridged Mono (8-ohm): 150 watts x 1 channel, 1kHz, <1% THD+N

Front-Panel Controls: The AudioSource AMP100VS stereo power amplifier features the following front-panel controls.

  • Power Switch: The front-panel Power Switch turns the AMP100VS on or off. A red LED indicates connection to AC power while in standby mode and turns green indicating audio signal is present.
  • Volume: The front-panel rotary volume knob allows you to adjust the amplifier's overall volume level.
  • A/B Speaker Selector: You can select Speakers A, Speakers B, or Both for playback.
  • Balance: The Balance control lets you fade the amplifier's speaker output between the Right & Left channels.

Rear-Panel Controls: The AudioSource AMP100VS offers the following rear-panel controls.

  • Bass & Treble: Bass (100Hz) & Treble (10kHz) can be adjusted from -12dB to + 12dB.
  • Stereo Mode: Select Stereo mode for connecting one or two pair of loudspeakers.
  • Bridged Mode: When set to Bridged mode, the AMP100VS becomes a single channel mono amplifier for powering one speaker. Only the Right audio input is used during bridged-mode. Only one zone (A or B) can be bridged; not both.
  • Auto On Switch: Power can be turned on and off manually via the switch on the front-panel or automatically by signal sensing. Set the Auto On switch to Normal for manual power on/off. Set the Auto switch to Auto for signal sensing; the amp will turn on when audio signal is detected at the inputs The front-panel power switch must be in the On position (pushed in) for the Auto On feature to operate.

Rear-Panel Connections: The AudioSource AMP100VS digital stereo power amplifier is equipped with the following inputs & outputs

  • Main Input/Output: The AMP100VS Main Input consists of stereo RCA jacks and are used as the amplifier's primary audio inputs. The Main Output also consists of stereo RCA jacks and passthrough the AMP100VS's Main Input audio signal to another amplifier.
  • Interrupting Line Input: The Interrupting Input consists of stereo RCA Jacks. This input can be used if a second source is desired and takes over when signal is present and has at least a 5mV level. When there is no signal, or a signal with less than 5mV level, the amp switches back to Main input after a brief delay.
  • Speaker A/B Terminals: The AudioSource AMP100VS is fitted with binding-post terminals for A & B speaker connection for powering up to two pair of speakers. The minimum impedance for each speaker section is 4-ohm in Stereo mode and 8-ohm in Bridged mode. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual).
  • Trigger In/Out: The 12V trigger input and output allow the AMP100VS to be powered on by other electronics or to power on other electronics via a 3.5mm minijack cable.
  • Unswitched AC Terminal: A two-prong AC terminal provides power for an additional component, such as a CD or DVD player, turntable, or other non-amplified electronic component. Do not connect another amplifier or receiver. Ensure 400W max power consumption for any device plugged into this terminal.
  • Power Cord: The stereo power amplifier features an attached 5.5' AC power cord.

Mounting Options: The AudioSource AMP100VS stereo power amplifier features four rubber feet and can simply be placed on top of a flat surface; like a table-top, shelf, or stand.

Q
Does the MAIN IN signal output to the MAIN OUT if the unit is plugged in, but not powered on?
[ Christian  Mar 21, 2020 ]
1 answer
A
I'm a little confused by this question. No signal is going anywhere without juice!
[ Alice  Apr 15, 2020 ]
Q
Will this amp work with a turntable?
[ Thomas  Jan 23, 2020 ]
1 answer
A
There is no turntable input on the amp 100. The signal coming in must be pre-amplified. So if your turntable is connected to a pre amp and the pre amp is connected to the input of the amp 100, that would work but the amp 100 must have a line level signal to process.
[ T  Feb 19, 2020 ]
Q
can I use the ausio source AMP100vs as a stand alone amp and use 2 devices turntable and cd, I know old school using in small living room?
[ Dave  Jan 10, 2020 ]
3 answers
A
That's exactly how I use it now.
[ Benjamin  Feb 13, 2020 ]
A
Hello, yes you can but you need a preamp with a cd input and a phone input. Connect the preamp to the AMP100 and then connect your turntable and CD player to the preamp. This will allow you to use your sources and control the volume on the amplifier.
[ Daniel  Feb 13, 2020 ]
A
Yes and no. You can definitely connect two devices to the standalone amp. It will even automatically switch between inputs, depending on which is sending a signal. Your issue might be that there is not a phono jack. So the turntable will need to send a line level signal to work.

I did not do that, mine powered some outdoor B&W speakers.
[ Robert  Feb 11, 2020 ]
A
A Powered Sub-Woofer System has it's own Amplifier built in, that's what the the ""Powered" stands for. I suppose you could bypass the Sub's Amp. but you'd need some manner of Crossover, and this Amp lacks the power to drive anything less than a "super" efficient Sub-Woofer.
[ Leigh A.  Feb 11, 2020 ]
A
Not Sure what you mean. We used this as a power source for Sonos Connects
[ RITA S  Feb 11, 2020 ]
Q
Can I use to split audio into two zones directly from a tv? I'd like to power a soundbar for the primary audio in the living room, and a pair of ceiling speakers in the kitchen to sync the audio when needed.
[ Heath  Dec 27, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
It has two Speaker Zones, & you can select either Zone separately, or" Both". If you choose "Both" (sending the power to two sets of Stereo Speakers) the Impudence for each will drop to 4 ohm's, so each set of connected speaker's must be rated at 8 ohm's or more!
[ Leigh A.  Dec 27, 2019 ]
Q
Does it connect to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth? I.e is there any way to wirelessly connect my phone to it? Need it for backyard speakers. Thx
[ Tori  Nov 25, 2019 ]
3 answers
A
yes it is wireless and it will connect to outside speskers
[ DAVID M  Nov 25, 2019 ]
A
No. But you can add a source device that does Wifi or BT and connect that device to the amp input. I use Chromecast Audio devices. I'm sure there are lots of BT options.
[ Matthew  Nov 25, 2019 ]
A
There isn't any bluetooth or WiFi built into this amp, but there is a device that you can find on the internet to connect Bluetooth to any amp. Basically it's a Bluetooth adapter which plugs into the amp inputs and then you can connect it to your Bluetooth device. Also note that this is a power amp so therefore it needs a preamp or something of that nature to control the volume. Schiit Audio (yes that's their real name and it is pronounced as you think haha) makes several stereo preamps and their cheapest one is called the SYS and is only $50. You can only buy straight from the website and everything they make is made in the USA. Hope this helps!

Q
Does it connect to Wi-fi or Bluetooth? Is there any way to wirelessly connect my phone to it? Thx
[ Tori  Nov 25, 2019 ]
5 answers
A
No. It only accepts analog (line level) inputs. You would need something like a Chromecast Audio or similar device for you to connect your phone.
[ James  Nov 25, 2019 ]
A
No it does not have either. I have this connected to my Yamaha Receiver which is connected to WiFi. Yamaha has an app called Music Cast which i do play music from my phone/iPad via WiFi.
[ Bradley  Nov 25, 2019 ]
A
No, not at all. This is 100% analog. It will accept any RCA input though so you could add a Chromecast or other device that does support those features.
[ Benjamin  Nov 25, 2019 ]
A
Unfortunately it dose not. There is no way to wireless attach a device to this amp out of the box. This is a very good basic amplifier with an Aux in. What we did was add a Chromecast Audio to cast audio from our phones and Google Home devices. Unfortunately these are not manufactured any more but call Crutchfield and they will be more than happy to discuss additional options or a different amplifier based on your needs.

Sorry but no..it needs to be wired directly..For backyard speakers...the speakers themselves (for best results) should be wireless...A speaker Bar works fantastic and can be bluetooth from your phone
[ arthur  Nov 27, 2019 ]
A
No, it's not smart at all. You'll need to add a smart outlet switch (which I have done) to make that work.
[ Ben  Nov 25, 2019 ]
A
Though it has some controls, such as Tone, Volume, & Balance, typically found on "Pre", & Integrated Amps, & Receivers, it's primarily an Amplifier, requiring the connection a source component. I think a Bluetooth enabled Stereo Receiver would be a preferred choice.
[ Leigh A.  Nov 25, 2019 ]
A
No Bluetooth or Wireless capability is built into the unit. It's a straight integrated amp
[ Robert  Nov 25, 2019 ]
A
Not without an adapter. I am actually using mine for the same purpose and I have an inexpensive Bluetooth receiver adapter hooked up to it. Works great.
[ Jameson  Nov 25, 2019 ]
A
No. It only has line level inputs, there's no wireless connectivity.
[ Neil  Nov 25, 2019 ]
Q
When connecting devices that have the ability to control volume (Chromecast Audio, etc.) am I able to control audio with the phone like normal, or does this AMP / DAC prevent that and force me to either use the volume control on the amp and/or remote impedance matching volume control. IE, if I connect a CCA dongle to the RCA jacks and power 2 passive speakers, can I control audio volume from my phone / PC device like normal?
[ Ira  Oct 13, 2019 ]

A
Yes. I do that with my Chomecast Audio from my phone.

I have this amp hooked to the Zone 2 output of my AV receiver ..I have to turn the Amp on from the front but the control it from my receiver remote...it worksfine for both my outdoor speakers and bookshelves in the kitchen
[ Rebecca  Oct 28, 2019 ]
A
I am using the amp to drive a passive sub outside. I control mine both ways. With a remote control that controls the volume to my AV Receiver ( it also affects this amp connected on B Channel ) and from my phone that runs through Bluetooth through that Receiver. But there is no way to discriminate the volume control to this amp without turning the whole system up and down. How are you going to get the signal from your phone to the amp?
[ Kirk  Oct 28, 2019 ]
A
When I connect my phone via Bluetooth (Pyle in wall Bluetooth) I am able to adjust the volume via my phone. I usually just set the volume on the Amp in the mid range and leave it alone unless I really want to crank it up, then I will turn up the volume on the amp itself.
[ Sean  Oct 28, 2019 ]
Q
Can this amp be controlled with a Harmony remote? Specifically the A/B functionality. Thanks!
[ Corey  Dec 07, 2018 ]
4 answers
A
No it has no remote sensor
[ WENDELL K  Dec 21, 2018 ]
A
No, it does not work with a remote.
[ thomas  Dec 20, 2018 ]
A
No there is no IR sensor at ALL on this unit, so it cannot be controlled with any remote. The only other way to control the On/Off other than the actual power button on the front is to use the 12V Trigger input on the back and have it hooked up to a device that DOES have a remote that will trigger the AMP to turn On/Off.
[ Miguel  Dec 19, 2018 ]
A
Analog controls so no it can't

Q
Can this and other similar power amps be connected to the front L/R preouts of an AVR to boost sound from the front speakers? If so what are the interconnects?
[ James  Apr 03, 2018 ]
2 answers
A
Yes, this amplifier CAN be connected to your AV receiver as you specified; preouts on AV receiver to L & R input on amp100. I personally use this amplifier as an mono block which powers my center channel speaker only, as in this configuration it outputs more power with the caveat that it can only power one speaker.
[ Miguel  Apr 03, 2018 ]
A
Absolutely. Just connect the left and right outs on the amp to the left and right pre outs on the receiver. Then run your speaker wire from the receiver to your speakers. If your using it for a home theater set up it's a good idea to run the Audyssee or YPAO for proper level gains.

You'll leave the balance control set int he middle when bridging the amp. The Auto On feature will continue to work when the amplifier is bridged. I hope that helps My bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan

Q
Is this what I'd need to use my Onkyo TX-8160 to power my bookshelves in another room? What's the difference between A/B vs. Zone 2?
[ Ajay  Jun 19, 2017 ]
2 answers
A
There are no difference between A/B vs zone. Speaker A or zone 1 if you are using it for example in the bedroom and speaker B or zone 2 if you are using it in the kitchen or another room.
[ JOSELITO  Jun 25, 2017 ]
A
I am not sure about how your Onkyo TX-8160 works, but my Onkyo TX-RZ800 has a Zone 2 for which it provides additional power, and a Zone 3 for which it only provides audio signal. I use the AudioSource AMP100VS to power my Zone 3 speakers. The AudioSource allows me to connect two sets of speakers (A/B) in Zone 3 and switch between them.
[ Arush  Jun 23, 2017 ]
Q
I have 4 sets of ceiling speakers all in different rooms, attached to a central switch box powered by my sony stn1050 zone 2. Can I use this pre amp to power them all through my switch box?
[ Bob  May 25, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Much depends on your speaker selector switch and it's capabilities. If it's working now with your Sony receiver, it will likely work with the AMP100VS as well but, the AMP100VS is not as powerful as your Sony receiver so, you would have fewer watts per speaker (and less volume from each as a result). Q
Can you have two speakers on "A," and a single bridged speaker on "B?" or just a single bridged speaker on just "A" or "B?" I'm looking to have three speakers connected, two on "A," and a third bridged on "B."
[ Nick from AZ  Apr 15, 2017 ]
2 answers
A
That set up will work if it is "A" or "B" but not both simultaneously due to the low output. Even then don't expect a high level of volume.
[ Charlie  Apr 16, 2017 ]
A
You cannot, the switch is either "on"bridged or not.
[ daniel  Apr 15, 2017 ]
Q
Can I use this to power 2 back channel speakers or back height channel speakers on an Onkyo tx rz 800 so I can use it as a 9.2ch atmos receiver?

3 answers
A
yes
[ John  Oct 12, 2016 ]
A
All i can tell you is that this amp was NOT for me. Using it means you lose volume control via your Onkya receiver. Also, i was able to use my Onkyo to power all 6 speakers in my house, so the amp was a total waste of money n time -for me.... Good luck
[ Michelle  Oct 12, 2016 ]
A
Yes you can. That's what I'm using it for. I haven't had any issues yet
[ MARTHA  Oct 12, 2016 ]
Q
Is there a way to play two speakers in MONO, either by bridging or using both channels? I have two speakers that I want to power in two different rooms and not have them in stereo.
[ Scott  Sep 05, 2016 ]
2 answers
A
Scott: I have re-read the manuals for both this amp, and a similar Russound amp, which I also own, and I don't think your can play two speakers in mono -- only one. It is too bad that these two amps don't have a mono mode as well as a stereo/bridged mode. Then you could. I wonder what would happen if a person wired both speaker outputs (R and L) to one speaker? I wouldn't risk it myself, but if there is an engineer in the room??????
[ DANIEL H  Sep 07, 2016 ]
A
There is no such setting on the front panel of the AudioSource AMP100VS. This is best accomplished by setting the source devise (AV Receiver for example) to mono output.
[ Charlie  Sep 07, 2016 ]
Q
Tone Controls? I just received Crutchfield July/August 2016 flyer which features this amp on page 4. The description says "it has built in volume and tone controls". Looking at the photos online I do not see tone controls. Does it have them?

Thanks for your question. Yes it does. On the front panel you have your volume and balance controls. On the back panel will be your bass and treble controls. Hope that helps.

Q
Will this amp work if I hookup (8) small ceiling mount 8 ohm speakers?
[ Tom  Jun 28, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
You would need at lest 2 amps to do this. You can only use 2 channels of the amp at a time. If you double up the 8 ohm speakers on each channel of the 2 amps it will let you use all 8 speakers. It will put a lot of load on the amps doing that, but as long as you don't run them too loud for long it may not affect the life of the amps too much. Most 8 ohm rated speakers will run lower than that (about 6 ohms) normally. So you will be putting more load than the amp is rated to handle by using 8 speakers on 2 amps. I would not even try doing that with just 1 amp. It will fry itself pretty quick.
[ Jefferson  Jun 28, 2016 ]
Q
