The old vs the new...Hmmmm

Crutchfield customer from Honolulu, HI on 1/15/2021

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I listened to my Sony C-625 five disc changer for many years, but it has become erratic and hard to play. Once it started it was fine. I could control the sound with the DSP system which gave me choices of jazz room, stadium, or similar. I could control the volume as well. All of these functions were controllable on the unit with large and very readable buttons, or the same could be done on very large and readable buttons on the remote control. I tried my best to repair it and find parts but it was built in 1997. The Yamaha 600 unit plays well, but I wish I knew braille in order to find the small and poorly lettered buttons on the unit face or the remote. It does not have a volume control on the unit or the remote. It does not have a way to adjust the sound quality. I find I must depend on my amplifier to carry out those functions. If I had not had my Sony for more than 20 years, I would agree that the Yamaha CD-C600 is a gem. The problem with new electronics is that they forget the basics and try to replace it with inputs for newer gadgets which I do not use nor intend to in the future. If Yamaha comes out with a five disc changer which has the features of my old Sony, then I would buy it and give the 6oo to someone who does not know what should be on the unit. Buying by internet does have benefits, but it would be nice to see a unit on the shelf or have a more complete description on the website before opening the box and finding out what is missing.

Pros: It is new and it works as I expected.

Cons: The unit lacks basic features of volume and sound control, and the buttons on the unit face and the small remote control are hard to find and harder to utilize.

This CD player pairs perfectly with my Yamaha receiver and whole house stereo speakers. I have a lot of CDs and wanted to get this in time for Christmas music playing. Although I can play music from Pandora, iHeart Radio or Amazon music it is very nice to load up with favorite CDs from my collection. Also, it is difficult to find nice CD players anymore so I am very pleased that I was able to get this one from Crutchfield.

Good high quality sound out of a CD changer

Crutchfield customer from Highland, MI on 11/12/2020

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

It is getting harder and harder to find CD changers that are quality units. I still have an extensive CD collection and like to put several discs on and just let them play all through. This unit has excellent sound quality and great looks. It's a little hard to see the front panel button labels for my middle aged eyes. But the DA converters sound fantastic on this and that, for me, is where it counts. This unit seems more solidly constructed than some that are out there, but I would appreciate a little more heft for vibration damping. That said, I can't feel any vibration whatsoever while a disc is playing. I expect that out of a unit that costs this much. I do with there were more options for high quality CD changers, but I think I am happy with this one. The only complaint is I have put in a couple of discs that skip, but did not skip in my old player.

Pros: Great sound No vibration Smooth operation

Cons: A little lightweight for this price point It's like the only choice out there for a good quality cd changer

After connecting and testing this Cd Player, I have found it to be an easy unit to set up with simple easy to use controls. The Yamaha CD-C600 Multi CD Changer has some nice convenient features, but I found the USB FLASH Drive Feature to be very limited in it's ability to identify folders of MP3 Files. Also this CD Player is limited to only using older Ipods. I will try using an Ipod Nano 4th generation MP3 Player to see how it works on this Unit. Hopefully the Ipod will be better than using a USB flash drive. Overall I really like the sound of this Yamaha CD player and look forward to listening to many hours of music.

Crutchfield Great - Yamaha, not so much

Crutchfield customer from Kalispell, MT on 10/19/2020

I have been looking for a cd changer for a while. Usually had good results with Yamaha, but this specific unit didn't work out of the box. The changer tray hung up inside (I took the cover off to verify what was going on). Fortunately, I had the boxes and packing material to return the unit. Crutchfield was VERY good about the return and I hope a replacement unit works. Tech service was good even though they could not diagnose the issue.

Pros: 5 disc changers are hard to come by, but Yamaha is still making them. Easy install and setup.

Cons: Unit didn't work out of the box. Had to return.

Excellent replacement for my 20+ year old unit. Have listened to jazz, classical, opera and Broadway so far and so happy with this unit. Many units that play one cd out there, but not what I wanted. Love being able to load a selection of music from my collection and then just enjoying. The advisor I spoke to, Colin, was also great. Highly recommend Crutchfield.

Pros: easy to hook up to receiver and use

Cons: A little larger and heavier, but not a deal breaker.

The Yamaha CD player replaced a 20 year old Yamaha CD player. It plugged right in using the digital optic line and works great. I have no problem with it. It is plugged into my Yamaha RX-V667 Receiver, which I am upgrading close to Christmas. It sounds great. If you have CDs, get one because 5 disc changers are going away, nobody is really making them. I haven't used the USB plug in yet because my receiver has an IPOD dock. I have had it for two weeks. It is deep, I had to take the door off my cabinet to get it to fix, but I need to upgrade that too, so check your dimensions. I like Yamaha's stuff, so I buy Yamaha's stuff.

Some Good / Some Bad

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The sound quality is superior to my previous CD players, but I miss some of the functionality and display of my previous players. When the unit is turned on, it automatically starts playing from track one. This is annoying. Often I have listened to some of the CD and want to start where I left off. I like to see how many seconds are left on a track. And while you can set this for the current CD, the setting does not remain for the next CD in the rack. Finally, the remote is not user friendly, hard to read, everything looks the same.

Pros: Great sound quality.

Cons: Poor functionality, display and remote.

There's little to choose from these days when shopping for a 5-disc carousel CD player. Leave it to Crutchfield to carry this model. I like everything about it including its sturdy metal housing. The sound is top quality. One of my favorite features is the well-lit display window. I can now read what track I'm listening to from across the room by choosing the highest of four brightness settings. I also like the fact that you can go both forward and backward when selecting a disc instead of having to go all the loaded discs. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the player.

I've owned a pair of Bowers & Wilkins DM 602's since 1997 and have always been frustrated with the low quality audio playing CDs on an old Sony Disc changer. Flat and muddy, not alive is how I would describe it. Until I started educating myself about CD players I thought they were pretty much all the same. I was wrong. I hooked up my new Yamaha C600, inserted 5 discs and I just about jumped out of my chair. The music I've been listening to all these years woke up and in a big way. I had no idea my speakers could sound this good. I'm thrilled with the open spacious instrumentation this unit is pushing out. Clean precise detailed and full sound is now in my listening space. I've been missing out until now but better late than never.

Pros: Detailed articulate spacious sound. My speakers woke up.

I had an older Sony cd changer that has had a couple of issues. The carousel gearing had slipped and was no longer in alignment and the discs would not load. I disassembled the changer and got everything working again, but I was fearful that the gearing was worn to the point that it would keep happening. I may be a fossil, but I have a preggy sizable cd collection and although I have the ability to stream music from other sources, I still like to play a cd from time to time. The Yamaha CD-600 was the obvious replacement. It functions very well, and, although it may be my imagination, I think the sound has improved over my older player.

Pros: Works fine.

Cons: None so far.

Carousel players are all but extinct, dedicated CD players even moreso. Carousel doesn't mean you have to sacrifice sound quality - but many do. Had several over the years, best sounding to my ears was my recently departed Sony CA80ES. Exquisite sound with a killer front panel design rendering the remote moot. In my search for a replacement, recently purchased the Onkyo DX390, it's Integra brother the CDC 3.4, and this Yamaha CD-C600. All lack full front panel fuctionality which mandates the remote for some functions. Both the Onkyo & Integra models performed well, and while the CDC 3.4 did expectedly outperform the DX390, it was by a relatively small margin. Both were well constructed with great overall layouts that were easily accessed. Neither measured up to the 20-year-old Sony. Enter the Yamaha. Using the analog connection, did critical listening to known passages on discretely amplified 2.0 & 7.1 systems - it reminded me of what I was trying to replace. Simply put - all the detail, nuance & control was there. Design ergonomics take some getting used to - I knew this going in - and it's doable. Not a deal breaker - but definitely something to consider. Would I use the Onkyo or Integra units? Absolutely - they're not going anywhere. I actually will at sometime in the future - decided by the Yamaha's service life. That's the part that seems most hit & miss with these units per the many posts I've read. Currently only

Pros: GREAT sound, build quality.

Cons: Overall ergonomics, need for remote. Not a deal breaker.

Not the Best for Classical Music

David B. from Knoxville, TN on 5/15/2020

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This multiple CD player has very nice clear tones in the mid-range. If you are into classical music, however, it's a little weak and shallow. For example, Kiri Te Kanawa singing the final aria from Madame Butterfly sounds distant. If you can listen to this without emotion, you are not getting good reproduction. Also, this cd player could not fully reproduce the bass organ notes in the introduction to "Phantom of the Opera". It simply could not drive our old but outstanding AR speakers. We exchanged it for the Marantz CD6006. The improvement was well worth giving up the mulitiple disc feature. We got back Kiri's emotional performance and the deep "Phantom" organ tones.

This is my 1st purchase from Crutchfield & the process was very good from order to delivery. The CD player sounds very nice...it's sound is very crisp & clean, you can definitely hear the different musical instruments playing as if they were in front of you. I had an older Yamaha 5 disk carousel that lasted well over 12 yrs, hoping this one will get that far. I've been listening to it for 2 weeks. I think the Pure Direct mode is overrated, I just don't hear a noticeable difference.

Pros: Very good sounding unit Remote has a lot of good features

Cons: The power cord connection is pretty tight This mama needs some real estate in your shelf/cabinet, pay attention to the dimensions

I am very happy with the CD C600. I am running this through a pioneer SX 1280 and they really get along together well. I am especially happy with the USB port for the iPhone. I never knew the iPhone could produce such a good music. The CD's sound better also. If you are in the market for a new CD player this is the one to get!

Pros: USB port for the iPhone is a game changer for me!

Cons: I wish the remote had volume control.

Unit arrived today on!y about 36 hours after I ordered it. Outstanding!!!! Set it up to replace a Song CD-C315 that died about six months ago after 25 years. Simple and straight forward operation. Sound is a little brighter than I remember from my old player but that may be just from the fact I recently had my speakers re-built (Infinity SM 115's). NOTE: The reason I waited so long to get this player is the consistent complaint that the random play function will play several tracks on single CD before moving to another and is not truly random. After setting up and doing some tests I dropped in 5 of my "Best Of" CD's and started random play. After 15 tracks it has only played 2 cuts from the same CD in a row twice. Seems very random to me. Will up date if it changes.

Pros: Simple set up - quiet operation - true random play (so far) -

Cons: None (so far)

Mostly happy with the changer, but it's advertised as having a fully opening drawer and it does not. Only about 2/3 of the back 2 discs are exposed when fully opened and those discs have to be handled gingerly to avoid scratching them while loading and unloading.

Good CD player. I was wanting the Onkyo 6 disc changer but they were on backorder until June. Opted for this one since I was ordering a new Yamaha receiver too. It works well but the only complaint is that the Play X-change (changing a disc while one is playing) feature is okay but unlike the Onkyo you have to slide the disc into a spot because the tray doesn't move to allow easy in and removal of the CDs. That's my only complaint. I prefer a disc changer so I can sit and listen without having to get up every time a CD ends. This is a good one and I recommend it.

After reading all the rave reviews and some complaints, I decided to purchase the Yamaha CD-C600 5 disc changer becaused my old Sony died on my about 2 years ago and I was without a CD player. I'm so glad I choose the Yamaha over the Other brand name units because first of all it's the only 5 disc unit, which made it a perfect fit into my stereo cabinet; second it operates in sync with my Yamaha A-S501 Intergrated amps remote. This unit sound is GREAT! The operation of the unit Is quite and smooth. I purchased this on 3/18/2020 and so far, so Good.. I've been waiting for this item to return in stock for the longest, sense CD changes are getting hard to come by, and Crutchfield got thier stock in first. I recieved unit in 2 days free shipping... Thanks Crutchfield.

Pros: Great sound reproduction, quite and smooth operation, perfect size and fit for any standard stereo cabinet.

Thank goodness for Crutchfield and delivery of my Yamaha CD-C600 5 disk cd player. My previous cd player had died and I became frantic. After extensive search I found my Yamaha CD-C600 online at Crutchfield, called and placed my order. I was amazed at how timely it was delivered and boxed in excellent condition. Up receipt, opened the box, connected it to my receiver, and was listening to 5 cd's in less than 2 hours. The quality is great and I also like that I can connect my iPod touch as well for listening pleasure. It is very easy to operate, love the cd program feature and listening Pure Direct. Pleasantly pleased that it ships with the connecting cables and even batteries for the remote. Now that's what I call service. I highly recommend this cd player if you have a collection and want to hear your music, sweet!

I have been a fan of Yamaha components for longer than I can remember. We've had two different surround receivers and both have performed admirably. This CD changer is no exception. I do a great deal of research before purchasing new equipment, and it always comes back to Yamaha. This changer is one of the quietest I've used yet. We were using a Sony and when the disc would change it sounded like and old record player dropping another record. It also did not hold up. With Yamaha, I know that it will last.

Yamaha's CD- C600 was the only choice for me. I was looking for a multi disk player after my old single CD player finally died. After reading reviews I decided on the CD-C600. Yamaha's build quality, looks, and great sound for a multi disk player can't be matched. I couldn't find one in California and I needed it before Christmas, Crutchfield came through with their free 2-day delivery. Now this player is BIG and required me to drill two 1.5'' holes in the cabinet back for both the RCA jacks and power cord for the player to fit on the shelf and cabinet glass doors to close. Loaded up 5-CDs and we enjoyed hours of uninterrupted Christmas music.

Great sound for the money. Not the most intuitive user interface. Excellent overall value.

Pros: First the positive: I like the sound quality of this CD player. Very open and nicely detailed, particularly in the high end. Matches very well with my other equipment (Denon AVR 2500; Klipsch Reference Premier). And factor in the price, and this is an excellent value.

Cons: The negative: The interface for loading / unloading CDs is not the best. The CD advance is by remote control only, and I have a universal remote. It would be so much easier and user friendly if there were buttons on the front panel to allow for emptying and reloading all 5 slots without having to use the remote. You can load/unload 4 of the slots while the 5th is playing, but I have not found an easy way to load all 5.

The Yamaha replaces a 25-year old Sony CD changer that was starting to have trouble reading some discs. Although we have a media server with all of our cd's installed, my wife sometimes likes to just load up the changer and plug in her headphones. It only took her a few minutes to get comfortable with its operation.

Pros: Can read both standard cd's as well as MP3 cd's, which is a big plus since some new music is only available via MP3 download.

Cons: Buttons on the remote and changer are a little small and the display is not as easy to read as the Sony that it replaced.

We had trouble with our first order but, are very happy with the way Crutchfield handled the return and r-order. The service was professional and fast. We had the top of the line Yamaha CD player for 25 years that finally went bad and we loved it. This is the replacement model and it is good, just not as user friendly and and efficient as the original. Controls for all functions were on the front of the original machine as well as on the remote and this machine has most controls on the remote only and it does not change disks as quickly as the original when on random play.

Pros: Top of the line player much cheaper now than the one we bought 25 years ago and it was delivered very quickly.

Cons: Not as good as the original player of 25 years ago but, a good player.

This is the third of these units that I have purchased. The first was roughly 25 years ago, and lasted almost 20 years before a lightning strike took out my system. I replaced the unit and it is excellent. I just added an additional unit for my upstairs listening. These changers are quiet, sound great, and reliable.

Pros: Professional appearance, quiet operation, great sound.

Cons: None that I have found

This CD-C600 replaces an older component (a different manufacturer) in my set-up and I am very pleased with this selection. If you already have some familiarity with these type units then you should have no problem with set-up or understanding. Great sound and not too complex. One thing not explained in the owner's manual (or not easily understood) is use of the Pure Direct sound enhancement (which is essentially the same as Dolby noise reduction controlled0 and is controlled either by a button on the units face or from the hand held control unit. In Pure Direct mode the display on the front of the machine goes dark and you get no information about the disc you are playing. That is not a problem in regular digital mode and the sound is great whether using the True Direct sound feature or in digital mode (display works fine). I am satisfied! Will add that I am using a Yamaha amplifier RN-303 with this player. Purchased it from Crutchfield also a year ago. I'm very satisfied with both units.

this is a great unit; you can actually hear the difference in sound quality as compared to my old Sony multi-disc player. my only complaints are that the remote is sometimes slow to respond to commands because it has to be held very close to the unit, and the open/close button is just on the remote and not on the unit. despite these complaints, I'm glad I bought it because its sturdy and generally easy to use.

I purchased this CD player to replace a unit I had used for over 20 years. I am very pleased with the way it functions. There is a smooth "quality" feel about it. The appearance is uncluttered and pleasing to the eye. The sound is excellent. If there is anything I would perhaps change on it, it is the size of the lettering on the individual buttons. At age 68, I need reading glasses when I read. I cannot read those labels without my readers. But, then again, I must remember to have my readers handy. If the lettering were enlarged, it would detract from that uncluttered pleasing appearance. I am thoroughly pleased!

Pros: Looks good, operates well, sounds great

Cons: Small lettering on controls hard to read

GOOD PLAYER BUT BAD ERGONOMICS

I bought this unit to replace a Sony ES 5-disc changer whose disc handling mechanism broke. Unfortunately Sony no longer makes such a changer. Having purchased Yamaha products in the past I decided to go for this one. The player works very well and sounds great, but Yamaha made a major ergonomic error. Unlike the old Sony, the disc drawer is located above the display and the manual buttons. As a result, when loading discs, the extended drawer forces the user to stoop down and look under the drawer to access the controls for selecting which disc to play first, etc.

Pros: Quality player with excellent sound.

Cons: Having the disc drawer above the display and manual controls makes the player more difficult to use.

Kevin from League City, TX on 3/27/2018

Sound and operation seem pretty good. Big problem is that I had a wrong impression of Yamaha as a company. Yamaha sells the exact same chassis in two packages, this one and as CD-C600RK. CD-C600RK comes with the Rack Mounting kit. They will not sell the Rack Kit separately. If you bother to ask them why, they just clam up and won't respond to ANY further inquiries about the product. I wish I had learned how bad Yamaha is to work with before the return period with Crutchfield expired. Now, I have it kludged into my rack. While I know that Yamaha makes very good products, I'm soured on their reputation, and I won't buy from them anymore.

Pros: Looks and plays nice

Cons: Yamaha Customer Service is Terrible

Crutchfield response on 4/3/2018
We appreciate the review. Kevin is right, Yamaha does have a Professional-series model with a rack-mount kit included. This CD player is designed for home use, so the chassis design is slightly different. Yamaha does not offer a rack-mount kit that fits this model. Our Customer Support team will contact Kevin to discuss.

Was looking for a carousel CD player to replace a 10 year old Yamaha CDC-697 player. The CD-C600 was a logical choice. The mechanism is smother and quieter than the unite it replaced. It lights up blue, It has standard RCA jacks and there is a socket for an optical digital cable. It has a USB port and Pure Direct switching. It's a nice CD player. One very minor note - it does not indicate the number of tracks remaining on the display while a CD is playing, It does display the time remaining. If you are looking for a multi-disc player, this is one to consider.

Purchased this Yamaha CD-C600 5 disc CD player to replace my Sony 50 disc player that I purchased from Crutchfield in 1999 that finally played its last song! I narrowed the choice down to a few CD players and the Yamaha won. I am so glad that I purchased this unit. The sound is really clear and I can hear instruments that I couldn't hear before. I read that some people said that the " Random Play" did not perform well but it has done a great job of playing different songs from different discs, and I really like this feature. I have many Christmas CDs and now I can change them while one continues to play without interrupting it, so that I will have continuous music throughout the holiday season! I also like the 30 minute turn off feature where it turns itself off to standby if not used within that period of time! I connected my IPOD to it and it played well and is a nice feature. Great buy and of course Crutchfield is the best!!

Pros: Sound clarity, able to play 5 discs, can change discs while one continues to play, 30 minute cutoff feature, and USB connection

Very nice for a multi-disc player

Sure there are better CD Players out there, but sometimes we just want old school throw a bunch of CD's in the player and hit play. Had a Sony CDP-CE500 but we were never that happy with it, it was loud when starting, opening, changing discs and quality was just fair. We also have an OPPO BDP-105D hooked up with analog cables if we are looking for better in his res files, SACD's, DVD Audio CD's, etc. We use Big Sur cables on this direct to a Yamaha Aventage RX-A760 and it sounds fantastic. We have over 1500 cd's still so we also wanted convenience of a multi-disc player. By the way, I even tried the optical out, to the Oppo to use it's dac, then analog to the receiver, a little cleaner for sure, louder, but not worth the hassle as again for extended periods we just want quality listening which this more than does. Pure Direct Mode while using pure direct mode on the Receiver also makes a noticeable difference also. Highly recommendation if a multi-disc player is what you are looking for.

Pros: Quiet Operation, Pure Direct Mode, Multi-disc

Cons: None for the price

Much louder during loading and tray movement than my old JVC. It also takes longer to load before play starts, so there is more dead space between discs. It is a little flakey in sometimes playing a single disc and then stopping even when on 5disc mode. Sound quality appears good, but I've an older amp so I don't notice that much difference from my JVC. The JVC finally died and this did appear to be the best replacement option. I do like the sleep mode, so it turns off automatically when not in use. You definitely need the remote, though, many functions are only accessible from the remote. I have not tried the random play, but given how long it takes to switch and load new discs I don't imagine it will be that worthwhile.

Pros: Easy operation, clean look, 5 disc capacity

Cons: Long load times and noisy tray movement

Reasonable sound, user instructions not good

Crutchfield customer from Denville, NJ on 1/2/2017

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Yamaha CD-C600 generally has been okay. Sound quality is reasonably good. When I first set it up and used it, I could not tell if I had a defective unit. It always opened to the same position and I could not cause the turntable to move. I could not load all positions on the turntable. Nothing in the manual about this. I eventually found that by playing one disc I could use disc exchange to fill the other positions. the unit has also stopped playing a selection and moved to another in random play mode. I checked with Crutchfield. The rep was helpful but had no additional information about the behavior. I called Yamaha customer serviced, waited one and a half hours to speak to a rep who said the loading/turntable behavior is just how the unit works. A note should be in the users manual about loading. Yamaha should provide a note to distributors so that they can answer the function question.

Pros: Reasonable performance if you want a CD changer

Cons: User manual/instructions not clear/complete. Yamaha customer service not easy to reach. Display is small

I'll start by saying I am an audiophile, and when I want to listen to music for quality of sound, it's through my Sony 999 ES and usually SACD's. That being said, on the weekends, i like to have my own private radio station, and a five disk changer is perfect for me. CD's sound SO much better than MP3's. This player sounds fantastic, easy set up (two cables), quiet transport, and the random feature so far is great. The remote control is probably the worst remote I've ever seen. Hard to read, all the buttons are the same size, etc. It doesn't bother me because I use the Logitech Harmony. It works great with this player.

Pros: Easy set up. Sounds great. Great randon playback. Quiet transport.

Cons: Remote control.

This is a great CD player. I've owned other manufactures CD players and found their performance unacceptable. This Yamaha seems to live up to the Yamaha name i.e., quality. The operation in changing discs appears to be flawless and the sound quality is exceptional. I've listened to CD players costing up to $7000 and I can't seem to detect any reason why anyone should spend that kind of money over the quality of sound of this player.

Pros: Easy to use, easy to operate Clean sound, accurate reproduction Reasonable price for this quality of product

I had an earlier version of this player that after many years eventually died but I liked that one enough to buy this one. It acts weird. Sometimes I load cds in it, close the drawer and it starts playing, sometimes it doesn't. Twice when it didn't I hit play on the remote and it turned itself off. I wanted it to randomly select songs off 3 cds and it did for about 30 minutes then stopped playing anything. If I want it to countdown the remaining time, it will but if you have it on random, it won't for any songs after that one. It goes back to counting up. Twice when I wanted it to countdown, the display went blank but still played the cds. Haven't seen anyone else with the same complaints so maybe mine was somehow damaged in transit. There are better performing single disc players for the same money but I wanted the convenience of a disc changer. I may have to rethink it.

Pros: Sounds good

Cons: Bizarre behavior. Think I'm sending it back.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought this unit as a backup / replacement for my aging Sony CDP-CA80ES. The sound quality is almost as good but the Yamaha sounds thinner and not as full or dynamic. My biggest gripe is with the controls. The main reason for a 5 disc player is the ability to play all the discs in a random order. This feature is not available on the front panel. So after loading the discs you have to find the remote and then select this feature. To make matters worse every time you power down the unit or eject a disk the random function is cleared.....go find the remote. And as others have noted the random function will sometimes play many songs on the same disc before jumping to another. The display gives no indication as to how many discs are loaded, it always shows 5. The display is too small. The remote is IR instead of RF. I can not detect any difference in sound quality in PURE DIRECT mode....maybe I need better equipment. It turns the display off in this mode.

Pros: Sound quality is almost as good as my older unit.

Cons: Random playback feature not accessible on front panel, must use remote, random playback is lost at power down or when ejecting a disk....go find remote, display does not indicate how many discs are loaded...always shows 5, display is tiny, remote is IR instead of RF, PURE DIRECT mode.... not difference heard on my system and display is turned off.

The Yamaha works and sounds great.

Pros: Great sound, Easy to use. You can chose the order of disc to play. Easy to install and worked immediately. I bought the Yamaha to replace a Sony CD changer that died after one week of use. Even though it was under warranty, Sony was unable to repair the unit and is refunding my money.

Cons: My only problem is that the nomenclature on the front panel has type too small and is very difficult to read when one is wearing trifocal glasses! The remote is also confusing with too many controls is a small space. Hard for old fingers to operate. Older people are probably the main users of CDs these days and Yamaha should consider older customers when they design CD players and changers.

I was replacing my still working 1989 JVC 6 Disc Changer and started to look for a decent multi CD Changer. After doing some comparison's between Sony and Onkyo the Yamaha seemed the one to purchase. Crutchfield was very helpful with answering my questions because I wasn't sure if it would play my 3 inch CD's... which it does because it has small recess in tray...The other thing it plays CDR's and has USB for my 120 IPOD. Right out the Box I started playing my collection of CD's and couldn't stop because of the clarity of sound and was surprised how clear the back up singers vocals were. After 10 hours of play my wife and I couldn't be Happier with this unit and would recommend this Yamaha C600 to anyone looking for a real nice Multi Disk Player!

Pros: Great Sound Quality For The $$, Plays 3 Inch CD's. CDR's and USB Port For IPOD's

I purchased this to replace an Adcom changer that the drawer failed on. Right out of the box this is a more robust unit. The drawer mechanism is much better. The listening test is where this shines. High hats are bright and crisp and bass is tight where most cheap CD players struggle. I am chiefly a CD listener, but I love the iPod interface for convenience during a party. All around, considering getting another of these units for future since changers are becoming harder to find.
