Load up your favorite CDs for hours of music

Carousel-style CD changers like Yamaha's CD-C600 are an increasingly rare sight in the age of internet streaming. But we're sure glad we have this one to offer, with its convenient playback features and solid Yamaha sound quality. Judging from all the positive reviews, our customers are glad, too.

Connect this disc changer to your receiver or amplifier and pop in up to five of your favorite CDs for hours of non-stop listening. You can even swap out four of the discs without interrupting playback of the fifth, so the music doesn't have to stop while you cue up the next few selections. (Just make sure you have room for it in your rack or cabinet — it's a little deeper than most CD players, at a little over 17" deep.)

Yamaha design keeps your ears happy

The CD-C600's sophisticated internal design includes isolated power supplies for the digital and analog sections, a high-quality digital-to-analog converter, and short signal paths that minimize the chances of interference or signal loss. What does that all mean? Rich, detailed sound with engaging warmth and musicality. You can improve sound quality even further with Pure Direct mode, which turns off the front panel display and the digital audio output to eliminate sources of potential noise.

A handy USB input

The front-panel USB input lets you play MP3 and WMA music files stored on a USB thumb drive, or even select Apple® iPods®. This lets you take advantage of Yamaha's high-performance digital-to-analog converter for the best sound quality from your portable music library.

Disc Playback

Laser Pickup Floating Mechanism: The laser pickup is isolated on a floating mechanism so its delicate operation cannot be affected by vibration.

Intelligent Digital Servo System: This type of system uses a microcomputer to monitor the signal, adjusting pickup tracking and focus, as well as spindle motor speed, to compensate for any problems.

High-Performance DAC: The Yamaha CDC-600 5-disc CD changer employs a high-performance DAC for high conversion precision with low noise.

CD Compatibility: The Yamaha CDC-600 5-disc CD changer will play CD-Audio, CD-Text, CD-R, and CD-RW discs (12cm or 8cm).

CD Text: When a CD Text encoded CD is played, this unit will display the CD Text information - disc title, artist name, and track name.

MP3/WMA Playback: The CDC-600 supports playback of compressed MP3 (8-320 kbps) and WMA (16-320 kbps) files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 format. The CD player can recognize up to 256 folders, 512 filers per folder, and a maximum of 999 total files.

PlayXchange: PlayXchange allows you to change up to 4 discs without interrupting playback. Most of the tray extends from the unit when opened, which allows you to insert all four CDs without rotating the tray.

Disc Selection: Using the buttons on the front panel you can directly access the 5 discs. On the supplied remote there are buttons to skip disc in either direction. Direct track selection is available on the remote.

Playback Modes: The Yamaha CDC-600 offers Disc Scan, Program Play, Random, and Repeat playback modes:

  • Disc Scan: This feature plays 10 seconds of each disc in the changer.
  • Program Play: Up to 24 tracks from any combination of the 5 discs can be programmed and played in any order.
  • Disc Mode: The mode button on the remote toggles between 1 Disc and 5 Disc modes.
  • Random Play: This unit allows you to play songs randomly in 1 Disc or 5 Disc modes. Random play is only accessible with the remote control.
  • Repeat Play: The CDC-600 allows you to repeat the current track, current disc, all discs, or the current program. Additionally you can repeat a specific section of a song (A/B Repeat) and repeat can be used with Random Play.

Pure Direct: The Pure Direct mode improves the sound quality; the front panel display and optical digital output are turned off.

USB/iPod Connectivity

USB Port: The USB port on the front panel allows you to play MP3 (8-320 kbps) and WMA (16-320 kbps) music files from a USB memory device (flash drive), card reader, or portable audio player that use FAT16/FAT32 format. The unit will recognize up to 256 folders, 512 files per folder, and a maximum of 32,767 total files. The unit's USB port supports basic playback controls, such as Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Reverse, Skip (Next/Previous); as well as folder and track select.

iPod Compatible: The Yamaha CD player's USB port also supports playback of your iPod's music files (via the USB/dock cable supplied with  your iPod). The CDC-600 offers audio playback, basic control (Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Reverse, Previous/Next) and charging of your iPod. Advanced navigation is still done through your iPod's clickwheel or touchscreen. Artist and song information will need to be viewed on your connected iPod's LCD screen. Q
Does this player have gapless playback between tracks?
swatfor  Feb 09, 2021
1 answer
A
No. The player plays exactly what's on the CD. If the CD is recorded with a few seconds of silence between each track, then the player will play it back that way.

I had an old Pioneer 100 CD changer and loved it. What would be compatible? I need to be able to work with my sound bar. I did not need to use a receiver on my old Pioneer changer with my sound bar. What would you suggest. I want something new, not used.

I am sorry but I do not have any knowledge of the old Pioneer changer....thus no idea if they are comparable. Crutchfield has the answer!! If you want my opinion they perform the same functions!!

Q
My cd changer stopped working and I am looking to replace it. I have a Pioneer PD-M430 cd changer. The receiver is a Pioneer RX-1220. Is this Yamaha model compatible with this receiver? If not, is there one on the market that is compatible or do I need to purchase and new stereo?

A
I believe it would be compatible. I replaced my old 1984 Denon with my Yamaha C600 cd player, hooked it up to my Luxman R-115 receiver purchased in 1988 and have experienced no issues.
thomas  Oct 16, 2020
A
This changer will work with any receiver. I have mine connected to an old Technics SUV-98 amplifier, works just fine!
ed  Oct 11, 2020
A
The connections between the receiver and CD player are pretty standard. You should be able to mix and match. Compare the specifications of what you want to connect.
jon  Oct 11, 2020
A
Since I have a Yamaha amp. I am not sure but if your old CD player plugged into the amp. It should work. The one thing that likely won't is your pioneer remote control.

yes mine has done the same thing. It won't work with my iPhone any more or my iPad either. I don't know what is the matter. I cant even get any local erdio stations.

Sounds like it's time to get a new one. I had to replace mine so my guess is that with everything now it is made to only last so long... sadly Otherwise maybe someone else has a solution to your issue but I am sorry to tell you that I don't know these units . Do you still have the instructions call the company directly they may be very helpfull.

Yes, you do need a receiver.

It does have to plug in to something, but not necessarily a receiver. You could use an integrated amplifier if your system is set up with the tuner and amplifier separated

adrienne l  May 24, 2019

Hi, Adrienne, Sorry, but I can't answer your question. My setup is simple; my cd player is driven by Audio Engine speakers, not a receiver. I do not use for anything more than playing cd's, and it excels at that. Tom

Q
Will it fit in a 16" deep cabinet?
kevin  Apr 14, 2019
4 answers
A
The carousel is 15 5/8 deep, but you will need additional space at the back for your power supply plugs etc. so you will need to account for their depth as well.
william  Apr 18, 2019
A
The unit is almost 16 inches deep.
barry  Apr 15, 2019
A
My cabinet's are 19 inches deep. I believe 16 inches could work if you have an exit for the cables either at the rear or the bottom or top and if you don't mind if the front panel extends just a bit past the 16 inch mark - not a lot - a fraction of an inch seems to me.
james  Apr 14, 2019
A
With the cords plugged in I measure about 16.5 inches in depth. So depends if you will let it stick out a little or if the cabinet has a back. It's also a little over 17 inches wide.

It has a high performance DAC for high conversion precision with low noise. I use the digital audio output and it sounds great.

Afraid I can't answer this one. I don't use any online sources, only CD's. The changer itself has been excellent -- sound quality matches my Marantz CC4001 changer, and it's holding up well after 5 years of daily use.

Will this player resume playback of the last track played after it has been stopped/placed on standby/turned off?
robert  Apr 05, 2018
5 answers
A
Yes, but it needs to be enabled. On page 13 of the manual, it has "using the advanced setup" ; follow the step for "play mode memory." It will not resume playback at the spot stopped, but it will resume at that track #.
greg s  Jul 06, 2019
A
Once the player has been stopped or turned off it reverts back to the beginning of the disc and starts again with track 1. It won't resume with the last track played.
michael  Apr 06, 2018
A
NO, it will start cd over. If it's 'paused' for a short time frame it will resume playback.
dan  Apr 06, 2018
A
No it does not it restarts
stephen  Apr 05, 2018

Not in my experience though that would have been desirable. It simply (re)begins again at the first track. Great player though, have been very pleased with the reproduction sound.

Q
Does it have a random shuffle feature?
rosa  Apr 02, 2018

A
I need to correct my earlier response. The device does include a shuffle (random) feature. In fact it shuffles among multiple disks. My comment about the remote control being difficult to read and counter intuitive still applies.
gary l  Apr 06, 2018
A
As far as I can tell it doesn't. More disappointing to me is although it has a 5 disk carousel, I don't see how you can go to a specific disk like from 4 to 2. All you can do is "skip": forward one at a time. And the remote is obscure with odd, small keys. Too bad because otherwise it is a good product at a fair price.

You need the rest of the sound system ... receiver/ amplifier and speakers ... and your ears.
joe  Dec 29, 2017
A
Does not come with speakers and you do need a receiver/amp to connect to. Good CD player and nice being able to plus iPod or iPad into to stream music. Remote is worst design I've seen but works fine
wythe  Dec 28, 2017
A
This is a AV separate component. You need to hook it up to a receiver and be running two speakers minimum from the receiver. It's a nice player for the money but you need the whole setup to use it.
christopher  Dec 28, 2017
A
The unit is just a CD player. It doesn't include a receiver. You might want to call Crutchfield for recommendations for a complete system, possibly all-in-one, that is in your price range.

Mine is just a shade over 16.
tom  Jul 03, 2017
A
The actual measurement is 15 5/8". You'll need some extra space for the connections.
william  Mar 14, 2016
A
The depth of this CD player is 15-9/16, but you need to allow at least an additional 1-1/2 inches behind for cable connections if you are trying to fit it inside a cabinet.
nadine  Mar 06, 2016
A
Yes I own one but rarely use it. Measurement front to back is a detail that must be provided by seller. Adding another inch or 2 for leads and power cord needs to be considered too.
jimmy w  Mar 04, 2016
A
The unit itself is about 15 5/8" deep. You have to take into consideration the plug in behind it. That takes up the rest of the space. If you can drill a hole in the back of the cabinet, that would allow it to fit. I like this unit very much. I'm an artist and paint to tribal, world and Celtic music and the sound (along with the Yamaha receiver) kills my studio. Yay.
judy  Mar 04, 2016
A
The overall depth including power and patch cord over 17 inches. The equip. cabinet without cords is less than 16 inches.
joseph  Mar 01, 2016

From front to back the unit is 15 1/2 inches. With your wire jacks add 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch which gives you room.Steve

The depth (front to back) is 16.5 inches. The width (left to right) is 17 inches. I measured twice! Great player, too - enjoy!

It would be a tight fit, l measured mine you will need at least 171/2" to have room for power cables etc. Sorry because we are very pleased with ours.

Hi Bullet, Mine measures 16" deep, but you have to allow for the RCA or other connecting cable plugs, which are easily another inch plus. It's a great CD player. Jeffry

The actual cabinet depth is 15 5/8" deep, but you'll need to add something for the electrical and patch cords. It looks like the factory was rounding up, and they didn't take into account the unit connected. Your figure of over 17" is more practical.

It is a little over 17" and is larger than my other equipment in my bookcase.

Never tried it! My music is stored on my phone and my work computer, so the question has never arisen. I'll try tonite and get back. There is definitely a USB port on the front that's labeled "iPhone/USB", so the implication is that it will. on another topic, however, I use the "random" setting regularly for playing CD's., and AM NOT FOND of it. The logic and speed of change isn't as good as my old Denon. Otherwise, it's OK.

No. This is a "changer" not a "player" --so it needs a separate receiver or amplifier to play music from a USB stick (or CD).

I purchased this player to add to my Yamaha receiver and my Yamaha surround sound speakers. However, not all 5 speakers will play when hooked up to the CD player but they all play when hooked up to the radio?

Q
Hi! Leaning towards purchasing the Yamaha because I Have a 16 Gb card I store my favorite 1000 or so songs on. (One level, no folders) Can anyone tell me if there is a random setting for the USB or will it only play them in the order they were copied to the card? I'm hoping that if a $5 mp3 transmitter does this this will too. If anyone who owns one and knows and can clue me in that would be most helpful!

The best way to support this is to have your card into a seperate transmitter or use an MP3 player, plug into the amp using the RCA plug "Y" adapter with a PIn Ear Bud connection then using one of the Line IN ports (with the RCA portion of the "Y" adapter plugged into one of the Line IN connections) the Pin connection plugged into the MP3 or Transmitter, select that Line IN connection you're using on the amp then select random on your player, then listen away! this amp will not randomly select through USB port as you want it to it's simply a convenience connection. you may have to step up into a more pricey amp to get the ability your looking for however the connection i explained is exactly how i connect to the amp with my Ipod and it works perfectly. i hope you decide to go with this amp, the sound quality and clearity is amazing and for the price you really can't get anything better. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I don't know if you can use the USB to play the songs. I don't think there's an mp3 decoder in the unit. you may have to transfer the files to an mp3 player to do that.

Sorry - have not used that feature. However, the Random setting for CDs does not have the best randomizing logic I've encountered. I preferred that of my now-defunct Denon. You may not be as picky, since you imply all you want is a workable random setting. It is better than no random. Again - only used CD random. Good luck.

I don't know what a mp3 transmitter is. I don't own this item anymore. I sent this back in favor of the Sony cd 5 disc player...since this Yamaha model won't let each disc spin in a circle while the drawer is open like normal players do. Sorry that I can't be anymore of help.

My disc player is loading then it tells me "unsupported". None of my discs are burned - all are original. If I move the disc from position 1 to 4, then it will play. In the toubleshooting it does not mention "unsupport" so what is wrong?

Q
Any remote chance that this is compatible with a Bose Wave ll radio?. The radio has a 3.5 mm input for their CD changer.
walter c.  Dec 14, 2013

A
It appears that the connection for the changer is a proprietary Bose link connection. However, if you have one of the Aux inputs not in use on our Wave radio, then you would be able to connect this unit to that input.
