R-N303 works well with ROON via airplay
Tom from Lansdale, PA on 1/29/2021
I like this receiver. It is powering my old Klipsch RB 5 very well. I had a few issues at first with the Yamaha music cast app. I played with it on my Android tablet and iPhone. When I realized it didn't support Quboz I got rid of the music cast app. I played with Bluetooth pairing but sound quality was meh. I stream my CD library from ripped flac files via a ROON Rock server. ROON has very good integration with Quboz. I was able to get the Yamaha connected to ROON via airplay with minimal fuss. Sound quality is excellent and I couldn't be happier. My bedroom system is rocking now!!!!!

Alex from LOS ANGELES, CA on 1/5/2021
LOTS of power for my Cerwin-Vega AT-10s. The bluetooth functionality is my favorite feature and should be industry standard. When you connect with any device it will turn on the receiver out of standby mode for immediate listening. I also have a vinyl player hooked up to it and its super crisp. I took a bit of a chance on this because my Yamaha soundbar is lackluster but you can tell that this is a top-line product comparatively (you get what you pay for).
Pros: Bluetooth Functionality
Cons: none

So far with preliminary set up I'm happy w this receiver. The full array of possibilities and sound adjacent featues are great.. my CD, tape and turntable are all connected and are easily controlled via the receiver.. Presently wo an antenna setup, there is absolutely no radio reception. Once we set up the atenna, AM/FM, Sirius, etc features, I'll really be able to assess this receiver's worth. Rest of my review will be forthcoming.
Pros: All above
Cons: So far it is non functioning as a redio...attend will hopefully solve that issue.

This receiver is exactly what I wanted for a second system in my den. It has sufficient power to easily drive my relatively inefficient Sony SS M3 speakers. The Bluetooth was easy to set up and works well. Tuner section pulls in plenty of stations when hooked up to attic antenna. Perfect combination of performance and value. Couldn't be happier.
Pros: Easy set up for streaming. Good fm tuner section.
Cons: Remote isn't backlit. That is the only con.

I replaced a 16 year old Harmon Kardon receiver which randomly dropped one channel with this Yamaha unit. I am an old rocker who only needs a phono, cd, and line input for my Sirius tuner. Also a good 100 watts to drive a set of vintge JBL Apollo speakers. Plenty of clean power..... I will never use all that other stuff!
Pros: just what I needed

Geat value. Great sound.
Crutchfield customer from Vancouver, WA on 11/26/2020
This is a great receiver for the money. Sound quality is typical of a Yamaha receiver - my primary reason for the purchase. But I do miss the loudness dial from a previous Yamaha receiver. I was surprised with the lack of a balance control on the front although the balance can still be adjusted from the setup menu. And the big volume dial feels kind of cheap. That said, the volume adjustment is very precise which is great when listening at low volumes for background music. I like the line in and line out feature for my cd recorder and the Bluetooth connection was a snap and sounds great.
Pros: Great Yamaha sound. Classic receiver features. Bluetooth.
Cons: No loudness dial. Volume knob not very 'solid'.

receiver fits needs
Crutchfield customer from Carbondale, CO on 11/17/2020
Very straightforward setup as far as connections go, all works as expected. Fine quality sound from marine speakers 4 ohm in series on each channel not to overload system. All speakers are in living room/dining area wall mounted in a large rectangle channels in an 'X'. Bluetooth is nice feature as I've listened to my library for decades and need an infusion of new classical and modern 'serious' music. It pops on as soon as my phone is set. Will take time to see if any of the other features such as Spotify, Sirius XM , will be desired. The volume is enough to blow my eardrums in my rather small house. It is a great upgrade from my 42 year old receiver which I blew with 4 ohm speakers which were configured incorrectly. Setting the 4 ohm in series with this amp the volume can be cranked higher without distortion than with prior unit. I don't do TV/video so didn't need a more complex unit. This is fine for music only. A subwoofer capability may have been nice.
Pros: ease of setup and use.
Cons: no subwoofer

Great Streaming Receiver
Crutchfield customer from Las Vegas, NV on 11/15/2020
This affordable stereo receiver streams pretty much everything you can imagine. I have used it daily, about 10 hours each, in my home office and the WiFi connection has been perfectly reliable. I normally alternate between a MacBook, Windows computer and an iPhone and all wirelessly connect with ease and quickly. With my usual streaming subscriptions, FM radio, internet radio, and Podcasts, I'm entertained all day. It's a Yamaha, so it sounds great powering my Polk Monitor 40s. It's well built and low frills, which means it will probably last a lifetime. If you want easy and reliable out of a 2.0 system that's paired with the free MusicCast app, it's hands down perfect. If you plan on using it without the MusicCast app while taking advantage of the built in streaming features, you may have a difficult and frustrating time navigating the menu with its small, two row screen with limited character count. It can also be rather slow searching for something new to stream continually going through pages, 1 song or podcast at a time (again, NOT an issue if you use the MusicCast app).
Pros: Sound, quality, WiFi connection, variety of compatible streaming services.
Cons: Limited screen without the app, no dedicated sub out.

Sounds great, with a lot of functionality. There is a learning curve to using wireless connectivity, and we've found it to be somewhat finicky. It's not clear whether the problems are with the receiver or our wi-fi, but it would be great if this aspect were more seamless. My rating would go up if we weren't still scratching our heads after a week.

MusicCast allows wireless speakers, and offers many audio inputs
Crutchfield customer from Clear Lake, IA on 11/11/2020
I purchased this unit for the MusicCast capability. I use it with MusicCast 20 wireless speakers. I am pleased with the performance. Connecting the R-N303 to my wireless network takes some effort, and I am not able to connect to the 5Ghz band. I sometimes have trouble with stuttering, and dropped audio with the MusicCast. I suspect these problems are likely the fault of my wireless router.
Pros: MusicCast supports wireless speakers. Besides line-in, and AM/FM tuner inputs; it offers Air Play, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, Pandora, etc. Good sound, and amplification.
Cons: Cannot connect to my 5Ghz wireless band. Sometimes MusicCast drops audio. These problems may be due to the age of my wireless router.

The Yamaha R-N303 stereo receiver replaced an older Sony unit that did not stream internet radio stations. The unit performs all streaming functions well and is easy to switch to auxiliary devices including cd, phono, Bluetooth, and cd recording devices. Using Yamaha Music Cast controller, it plays music to Yamaha wireless speakers seamlessly. I had a little trouble syncing to internet, but using the Music Cast controller on my phone and assistance from Crutchfield rep. It was easily rectified.
Pros: Phono connection, cd recording capability, a and b speaker channels, and ability to play Yamaha wireless speakers are all great qualities for a lower cost unit
Cons: Initial sync to internet was a little tricky.

Yamaha R-N303

My reason for buying this receiver is a little different. I have ripped all my music and store it in a NAS (Network Attached Storage). I ripped them to FLAC files and high bit rate (320) MP3 files. The MP3 files are for portable use and the FLAC files are for home use. I mostly listen to the FLAC file while I work on my computer using Foobar2000. I was looking for a way to play the FLAC files on my main music system which I found I wasn't using very much anymore. The R-N303 is the least expensive receiver in the Yamaha MusicCast system so I thought I would play with it and if I like it I will buy the Yamaha WXC-50 for my main system. I will not get into reviewing the R-N303 hardware since others have done that. Yes, there are shortcomings (No USB port or mid-range tone control) but I knew that and you get what you pay for. For me, MusicCast has been good but not great. I run it on both my phone and tablet, the bigger the screen the easier it is to search and scroll. At this time I am mostly creating Playlists and then letting it play them randomly. I have not had any connection issues but since the R-N303 is hard wired with CAT 6-e that is to be expected.
Pros: A solid receiver for the money
Cons: None that I didn't know when I bought it

Yamaha R-N303, Great Features and Value
Tom from EL PASO on 10/22/2020
After my 25 year old Yamaha receiver died and I began looking for a replacement. With 100 watts into 8oms per channel, AM/FM, support for 2 tape players, CD, turn table support, and Bluetooth, the R-N303 exceeded my expectations. Additionally the receiver supports ethernet, streaming services and works with Yamaha CD-600 player like a matching glove. Although I have not explored all options, I was tickled pink when I found my multi-function Yamaha remote control works both units. Over the years my Yamaha CP70 piano, PB-1 bass pre-amp, MM6 synth, have clearly shown Yamaha Corporation engineers and delivers real quality and value. It makes me wish I still had my Yamaha 650cc Sportster. I would highly recommend the R-N303.

Music Cast network issues.
Turner Tunes from Crawfordsville, IN on 10/10/2020
Sound quality is very good. Keep in mind it is only rated to 40hz. Keep that in mind when picking speakers. Lowering the review because music cast keeps loosing the network and it is a huge pain to get it back. That is is major feature of this product. The error codes and manual don't even match up. I'm in IT support, and understand networking. A general user is going to be completely lost. The network dropouts are horrible and difficult to get back.
Pros: Good sounds quality, doesn't clip. Holds good playback volume without issue.
Cons: Music cast network drop outs are ruining this stereo receiver. Randomly drops out for no reason. Telling me the network isn't the same, when it is. Very tricky to get back. General network instructions are horrible.

A great amp - love the network remote!
Crutchfield customer from Durham, NC on 10/3/2020
I purchased the R-N303 to replace an aging JVC system. While my primary motive was to upgrade remote control for volume and selection settings, I was quite pleased with the improvement in sound quality - particularly stereo separation and clarity of digital sources (we are big fans of Pandora and still use CDs). The internet radio is far superior to the add on device I had been using. All that said, set up was fairly straight forward as the unit read the settings from my Apple I-phone upon initial start up. My only complaint is that the connection to my router frequently requires re-boot. This is, fortunately, a fairly simple process. I understand that other MusicCast users routinely experience this with other Yamaha components. Anyhow, not a deal breaker for me and I really enjoy sitting outdoors and being able to switch sources and adjust other basic settings. Literally have re-discovered music that we have listened to for years!
Pros: Network Remote. Internet sources and sound quality.
Cons: Frequent disconnect from router.

I was pleasantly surprised with my receiver when I received it. I was expecting some set up and wifi connection headaches based on other reviews. While it's true that the wifi setup didn't work right away, after I powered it down and tried again a little wile later, the setup went really well. I find the MusicCast app perfectly functional and relatively intuitive. I was pleased that after connection to wifi the music collection on my Synology NAS was immediately available and browsable in a number of different ways. I'm a big fan of all my steaming going straight to the receiver instead of to my phone or computer first. I really like the easy access to internet radio through the MusicCast app. The versatility of physical and wifi inputs is a real selling point for me. Depending on what I'm doing I might be streaming my own music collection, playing internet radio, playing audio through airplay, bluetooth, playing a record, cd... No matter what my needs are the receiver can accommodate with a good connection and good sound. Overall, extremely satisfied. I wish there were more compatibility to pairing additional speakers on the MusicCast platform, but the MusicCast speakers look decent enough that I'll probably add one in my kitchen at some point.

Value, value, value.

This is a feature packed budget receiver with few weak links. No balance control is one, but what you do get for the price is very impressive. One of the few "zone amplifiers" with app control of speaker A/B switching, at half the price or less than brands B or S. Its more expensive version R-N602 adds all the missing controls and ups the amp, but at twice the price, may not be worth it to most budget buyers.
Pros: Adequate power for most users, tons of functionality for the price.
Cons: Lacks a balance control and Yamaha's signature variable loudness.

Clean edges and looks and enough moving parts to control sound, even through incredibly detailed remote, so that sound can be controlled quickly for different types of music without a lot of fuss. Running a set of Elac speakers this amp sounds GOOD! Improvement over my old Kenwood from the 80's. Bluetooth works too with phones, super easy. Did not try plugging in our network as the TV uses the network cable. I'm simply running the sound out via coaxial box into rca jacks into the back of the amp. Works great!
Pros: Great price, good sound, phono jacks with pre- amp.
Cons: Was out of stock for a few weeks, no complaints otherwise.

Clean sound.
Stephen from Mechanicsburg, PA on 8/31/2020
Great support from the Crutchfield team. I was looking for a 2 channel receiver to drive my vintage Klipsch KG4's. The system sounds great for a receiver in this price range. Yamaha MusicCast works great to stream Pandora, AirPlay. Have not tested the phono input yet. Thanks again to the Crutchfield team.
Pros: Sounds great, easy MusicCast Setup. Very convenient using iPhone as the "remote".
Cons: None.

Great streaming receiver
Kevin from PORTLAND on 8/31/2020
Finally received this item. A good 2 channel amp/receiver. Enough power for my system. Replaced an older Sony receiver to get streaming functions. Recommended. Initially could not get my iphone MusicCast app to see the receiver on the network via WiFi, despite following the setup procedure several times. For those who are having similar problem, found a tip on the 'net: try unplugging the receiver at the wall for a few seconds. Then power it up. Worked for me immediately.

Liked it a lot. Had a previous Yamaha but it was a bear to understand and retain the information you needed to use or recover all of the features it had. This version was great. The remote is simple and easy to understand. The manual had about the same amount of pages as my former Yamaha. The difference is the information on the former system was all in English. This system the information was in English, French and Spanish. Did not see Esperanto. Very streamlined. Bottom line is they focused on HFE. Ili faris tre bonan laboron.

This is a good replacement for the much older version of this amp that I had (but after 15+ years a channel died0> this has some bells and whistled, I probably will never use, but it does what I need, taking a TV signal feeding speakers so that I can watch DVDs or iTunes s videos.
Pros: Simple to set up. Has an optical inut.

My 35 year old Kenwood amp finally died and I needed something new. There were a lot of good reviews for the R-N 202, but I couldn't hook up my phonograph. Plus the 303 had Bluetooth, and computer radio as well as Am Fm. Plenty of power to run my Ohm C2's. And at a reasonable price. It arrived 2 days after I ordered it. Perfect.
Pros: Plenty of inputs Lots of power Comes with a remote Bluetooth

Disappointed...just hooked this up today. My 32 year old pioneer sx2300 @ 65 watts per channel literally blows the doors off this receiver, smh. The service was awesome but I waited a long time before making the change to a streaming capable device and this is not what I was looking for. Still trying to connect to wireless.. I need to find something else.

Cons: Sounds like a transistor radio..

Great WiFi Receiver For The Price
Crutchfield customer from Matthews, NC on 6/25/2020
Overall, this is a nice receiver. I'm using it to power speakers for an outdoor pool deck. Initial wifi setup didn't go as smoothly as expected. It's fairly time consuming to attempt with the display. Using the MusicCast app should have been easy but proved finicky. However, once setup, the app and receiver work great together even across multiple smartphones. I initially tested the receiver with Polk bookshelf speakers and the sound was very nice. Works well with the outdoor speakers as well. Very happy with the receiver overall as it adds great sound and usability to our outdoor experience.
Pros: Flexible source options. Good range on the wifi compared to bluetooth
Cons: Wifi setup was a little challenging through the unit display. MusicCast app initially wouldn't connect.

GREAT SOUND, BUT POOR FUNCTIONALITY FOR OLDER PEOPLE
Crutchfield customer from Petaluma, CA on 6/25/2020
Getting my audio equipment hooked up was a breeze and I had it playing my old CDs and vinyl LPs in no time at all, and sounding terrific. But when it came to getting it connected to my network, nothing but frustration and failure. I followed the instructions in the manual step by step, and they were well-written, but the unit didn't always do what the instructions said they would do, nor did my iPhone, modem and router. I'm a geezer, (age 70) but not unfamiliar with high tech stuff and have been able to manage most hookups like this. I attempted all the various ways to get the thing connected to the net, and not one of them worked. I was looking forward to being able to send music from my desktop and iPhone to hear them on this great new sound system, but I'm going to have to settle for just using the hard discs I have. Final complaint - the lettering on the face plate is so tiny, I can barely see it even when I'm right in front of it. Why??? They could have made it twice as big, there's plenty of room.
Pros: Easy to hook up audio components. Great sound. Sleek-looking design. Well-written owner's manual.
Cons: Complicated network hookup. Tiny, hard-to-read lettering on face plate.

I could not be more delighted with my Yamaha R-N303 AV receiver from Crutchfield. I received expert help from Zach in first identifying my home entertainment needs and then matching just the right unit to those needs. The unit offers AirPlay for streaming from my home PC. I have Net Radio as well, which I'm driving from my smartphone with the MusicCast app. I have an optical audio input which consolidates everything moving through my flat screen. Beyond all this, I have all this Yamaha clean quiet power at a much better price point than what I expected going in. The 303 is driving my Cambridge Aeromax bookshelf loudspeakers, which earlier came recommended from Crutchfield (you guys are two for two). The sound is excellent. I've been a Crutchfield customer since the 70s; It's great to see you still around, still adding tremendous value and providing the best customer experience you can find.

After researching several options to replace an existing two channel receiver/amp I settled on the Yamaha because of the combination of price and features. The unit was a nice drop in replacement for my old receiver/amp with the addition of bluetooth/wifi connectivity and remote control via the Musicast app. The initial install and setup was easy, and the receiver/amp has worked flawlessly so far. The app can be a bit flaky at times but it does work and allows control from anywhere in the house.
Pros: Good price/features Easy setup Wifi connectivity Remote control via app
Cons: App can be a bit flaky at times Speaker connection posts are ok but could use some improvement to make wiring even easier.

Could not be more pleased
Crutchfield customer from Charlotte, NC on 5/13/2020
I had a very specific situation. 1. I hoped for the ability for us to easily switch between using the TV's on-board sound and a small pair of bookshelf speakers for the receiver to drive. Given this, I specifically chose the Yamaha so it would actually not control the Sony TV's volume out of the box. It worked perfectly with the optical coming from the TV and digital coax from the Blu-ray. No menu settings required - we simply turn up the volume on the TV with the receiver off, or mute the TV and control the volume on the Yamaha. Even easier than I'd hoped. 2. Wanted a stereo receiver that could control the headphone volume with the remote, since I sit across the room to listen. Unlike some stereo receivers, the headphone volume is controlled by the master volume and also works perfectly. 3. Wanted tone controls so we can minimize bass for the neighbors' sake while using speakers, but adjust for headphone listening. Many moons ago, I was a musician as well as sold musical instruments. I know that Yamaha makes THE best/close to the best musical instruments in several instrument categories (their logo is a set of tuning forks for a reason). However, this is my first time using their electronics. I'm super impressed with the quality, feature set, and fit for my unique needs. Extremely highly recommended.
Pros: Build quality and feature set. This was the perfect choice for my needs, regardless of price.

Used to power Polk audio Atrium 6 for my outdoor area. Needed something with WiFi streaming. It was between this and Sonos amp. Sonos seemed extremely overpriced. I had heard that music cast didn't work well and it was easy to set up. None of this turned out to be true. I set up the WiFi and app in a few minutes and added my Spotify and Sirius accounts without issue. 3 weeks in now and haven't had so much as a single lost connection. Pairs great with the atriums. Going to add a second one to power my indoor ceilings and add a few of the music cast wireless speakers as well.

Value for the price, Wireless is a pain
Crutchfield customer from Worcester, MA on 4/30/2020
To start, the 3 stars are for the time consuming and spotty wireless connection set-up, which many others have noted. I almost started to run cable to the unit it was such a pain to set-up. However, once I used the "Sharing the iOS device setting" (pg 15 of the UM) it connected after the second try. Once the internet was connected to the unit, MusicCast loaded with no problem and works great. I would highly recommend using the MusicCast app instead of the remote. Otherwise the unit is a good value for the price I paid. On another note despite having a higher (published) power output (100X100) the R-N303 does not generate the same SPL (yes I measured it) as the RX-V530 (75X75) that this stereo replaced. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and would buy it again.
Pros: Compact, lots of connections
Cons: Output not as robust as you would expect for 100X100

AM/FM reception is not very good where I live. I am now able to stream my favorite local and internet stations through my iPad via Bluetooth. It has a built in amp for a turntable so that will be my next purchase from Crutchfield (?????????? ). I'm not an audiophile but I appreciate good sound and the R-N303 sounds great on my 45 year old JBL Decade L26 speakers. This is a terrific unit for my needs at a nice price.
Pros: See review
Cons: No bass boost but that's a minor nit. The remote could be designed better - too long and narrow. If it was wider and shorter it would be easier to control without having shift it.

Best of Bunch for Money
Crutchfield customer from Saint Louis, MO on 4/25/2020
Works well with Polk bookshelf speakers - BUT speaker connection posts poorly designed to make a bare wire connection. Picks up FM stations - AFTER you TRASH the worthless hunk of wire provided, and put an old longer indoor antenna on. (I have no use for AM.) Picks up Internet Radio stations from wired connection - Potluck on finding anything? Presets are invaluable! Visual Display on reciever is legible from three feet away; info is pretty useful if you follow the paper instructions. I bought this reciever because of the additional new features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Optical sound input. I am happy to have them despite the Internet upgrade that has disabled everything in my house not wired; I think that the machine deserves a higher rating.
Pros: WIDE variety of features. Fits into old systems and has connections for new technology. Visual display is LEGIBLE. Good choice when you Do Not want video connections. Plenty of power for bookshelf speakers, smaller rooms.
Cons: Poor design for bare wire speaker connections. Part of problem is normal jam-it-all-together! FM antenna a Joke. Search for Internet Stations a puzzle - would probably be fine if you used a Service.

Crutchfield customer from Fort Wayne, IN on 4/14/2020
I'm old school and am using the new Yamaha R-N303 with old rack system components, some of which date back perhaps 30 years. It is a true value: good quality at a reasonable price and compatible with my old equipment. Combined with perhaps one more addition to my current setup it just might bring me into the 21st century.

While this device is working out really well as part of our sound entertainment system around the house, the real star of this review is the folks at Crutchfield. I am the least technical person that has ever likely written a review on this website, but the guy I spoke with over the phone at Crutchfield was so incredibly knowledgeable and helpful that he made the expected nightmare process, a piece of cake.

Mike from Brighton on 4/9/2020
Just purchased this receiver from Crutchfield. I had been watching it since Black Friday when I failed to purchase it and was just waiting for it to go back on sale. Jumped on it ASAP when it did. I received unit in just a few days. I wanted a receiver for my garage that had bluetooth, airplay and wi-fi capability and XM Radio. Totally happy with this receiver. Set up was a breeze, connecting it to my wi-fi network was super easy using the iOS share feature and programming presets was super easy using the Music Cast app. Only thing I think would have been nice is for the US models to utilize the RDS feature that apparently is available on UK and European models
Pros: Easy Wi-Fi Config, Bluetooth, AirPlay, Good reputation based on other reviews
Cons: No RDS for terrestrial radio

Poor phone app
Crutchfield customer from Lithia, FL on 4/9/2020
I have only had this unit for a week so maybe it will work out. I wanted a unit that had music streaming services built in that could power my patio speakers. the onkyo I had previously could do this with no problems until the power button failed. The Yamaha requires operating app on your phone to control all operations. This app is terrible constantly drops off and I have to keep restating Pandora will play 3 songs then you have to restart the app. I wanted to avoid this two variable operation because if if phone service is weak at times it will cut out . I guess I will wait for the Onkyo to get back from the shop

More than happy!
Crutchfield customer from Cato, NY on 4/8/2020
I was looking to downsize from a Yamaha 5.1 channel surround sound system to a simple, 2 channel receiver. We aren't watching as much television and my wife was done with all the speakers and the subwoofer in the living room. We spend most of our time listening to music. The Yamaha has everything I was looking for and the price sealed the deal. Set-up was simple, took a couple of tries to connect it to the Internet, but that was because I wasn't taking my time. SSID and passwords are case sensitive and once I used the correct upper/lower case letters it connected immediately. Easily connected via Bluetooth to our BOSE SoundLink so we can enjoy music outside when we prefer. I LOVE the MusicCast app, I can control everything from my phone, the remote stays in the cabinet with the receiver. I understand why this is advertised as a "Top Seller".
Pros: Simple to set-up and operate. Love the MusicCast app. Easily switch between FM radio, streaming services like Pandora, or tunes from my music library plugged into my router.

david from West Chester, PA on 4/7/2020
I LOVE IT... and i've only had it on for an hour. I previously bought a different, similar receiver because it was a little cheaper. It only connected to Apple devices through the USB connection. Very disaapointed. I have only had this on for an hour, and was already, easily, to connect my android phone to the receiver wirelessly. Very simple. Click the bluetooth button on the remote control and then select the receiver on your phone. Pair it, and you're done. At quiet(er) levels I am still getting some bass. Not a lot, but certainly more than the previous brand. I am curious to try connecting to my computer, etc. Again, Crutchfield overs great customer support and I feel a great deal. I always preceived Crutchfield to be where only the wealthy people went to buy stuff. I stand corrected.

High quality and inexpensive
Walter from Las Cruces, NM on 3/21/2020
Good solid receiver. I'm running a pair of Klipsch KG4s with a pair of Klipsch R-51Ms; the A/B speaker output runs through a Monoprice speaker selector allowing me to adjust the A and B channel volume independently. Used the line output to drive a powered Pioneer sub SW-8MK2 which has volume and crossover control. Kick butt system w lots of control over all 3 speaker systems. For input, using mostly Bluetooth from my iPhone and my old Technic direct drive turntable for vinyl.

Very Solid Overall - Finicky to set up
David from Edgewater, MD on 3/8/2020
Been listening to the unit for a week now with new speakers and it definitely meets my needs. Giving 4 stars b/c like others I had to call Crutchfield to set up MusicCast which was frustrating because I have the unit connected via ethernet. I should have trusted my instincts and done the firmware update first and not followed the manual sequencing; even then I had to unplug and re-plug the router to finally get the MusicCast connection to appear; Crutchfield support as always was excellent. Interestingly the tech told me customers often find it easier to get initially set via wi-fi vs. ethernet for what that's worth. Now that it's connected MusicCast is working very well - I've used Spotify, Sirius XM, and Tidal. Spotify just uses the Spotify app whereas Tidal is an interface. With hardwired connection Tidal is amazing with hi-fi lossless streaming, glad I sprung for a trial subscription. I converted and transferred ~40 favorite cds to FLAC and a recent kindle fire and musiccast will play them directly. I also appreciate a lot of the advanced settings it has that fit my use case: minimum starting volume on power up and a max volume setting so inquisitive kids don't push new speakers over the line. I considered getting the low-end 202 and getting a separate streamer but glad I didn't - having it all in one costs about the same and the 303 has a lot more amp functionality plus banana plugs instead of spring clips etc. Paired with new Wharfdale 225s system is gr
Pros: Very good clean power and functionality - native streaming for almost everything. Once it is set up MusicCast can be used as the controller for almost everything but the remote is well-thought out for those that don't want to use their phone or a tablet (my preference).
Cons: Set-up is a pain but bear with it and call Crutchfield if needed! Wish it had native google chromecast to choose whether or not to use MusicCast for all interfaces but that is minor.

For my purposes this receiver is idea with one exception: it stands one inch taller that my space permits thus when I want to change channels on my TV I have to hold the remote up over my head. Ordering was efficient, helpful, person had knowledge of product. Order was received day and half after placing order. Product was packed well and a list of everything that was in package. Great Stereo Receiver Upgrade
Crutchfield customer from Newnan , GA on 1/19/2020
Bought this to replace older 1980's Technics stereo receiver. Perfect match for my vintage Teac turntable, Pioneer cassette deck and modern S10 cellphone for bluetooth audio steaming. Powerful amp drives my AR9 towers with plenty of bass and spacious mids and highs. Surprised on how good the bluetooth audio sounds, especially when using Spotify. Thinking about a modern single disc CD player now to replace the old Technics 5-disc player and complete the setup.
Pros: Good amplifier sound for the price and great versatility.
Cons: Wish the power cord could be removed and there was a 2nd or third power outlet on rear of unit.

Glad I chose the Yamaha R-N303
Anhony from Massillon, OH on 1/19/2020
Great receiver that will fit exactlly what I was after. After much research & many question to the Crutchfield associates I got this Yamaha & am very glad I did. Network set up was a breeze using the wifi & have not had any dropout issues. Using the MusicCast app allows me to access my PC library as well as Pandora. The remote functions are quick & easy. Receivevr looks smooth, but most important is the sound reproduction - 5 STAR without a doubt. I'm very happy with the choice and would recommend this Yamaha R-N303 to fiends and those who are wondering!
Pros: Network setup, sound reproduction and functionallity. MusicCast app.

Great for the price
Crutchfield customer from Corinth, ME on 1/9/2020
I have not used all of this units features yet but I find the amplifier section to be very quiet with clean and powerful sound production. I am not crazy about the tone controls but they work ok. The remote is very nice and works well, The FM section seems to work quite well I am in the process of getting a better antenna but with the included antenna my reception is decent probably as good as my old Pioneer SX 780 or nearly so. I think the FM section in this unit is quieter and has better frequency response. It sounds clearly better to me than the older receiver. I am disappointed that the amp is not 4 ohm stable so I can only use 1 set of 8 ohm speakers at once (All of my old amps can drive 4 speakers at once). I wonder to myself if this unit will last 40 years like the older vintage units I have, I consider that unlikely but for the price I am quite impressed. I think you will be pleased with this unit for the price. I recommend it.
Pros: Remote Control Quiet amp Decent FM section
Cons: Amp not 4 ohm stable Tone controls are just so so Not much to look at (too much black)

Very Happy with Yamaha R-N303 Stereo Receiver
Crutchfield customer from Middleton, WI on 12/17/2019
Very happy with my new R-N303 stereo receiver. It replaces my old Yamaha receiver that did not have bluetooth. It is a little smaller than the prior receiver which is nice. The bluetooth connections occur easily with a couple different idevices and have been solid. The sound quality paired with my Polk speakers is great. This is just what I was looking for. I do like the ability to program the starting volume level so that you don't start out too low or blasting. Good idea! At this point, I don't need or want a music streaming service and don't plan to control other speakers so I won't connect to wifi but will consider if things change in the future. I may use the available optical connection with my next TV. This receiver seems like high quality at a good price and is great for bluetooth, CDs and TV-cable sound. Exceeds expectations
Crutchfield customer from Berkeley Hts, NJ on 10/19/2019
Very easy to setup and install. Nice alternative to Sonos for the price. The app isn't too slick but is totally functional. We primarily use SiriusXM which can be controlled right through the app installed on any device connected to your wifi - no need to run through bluetooth (although you can do that too). Picking up net radio was a nice benefit - my wife is from Dublin and now we can listen to RTE for free. Tons of killer stations. Tuner works pretty well , which was a nice surprise as we have a rather weak terrestrial signal. Whole family likes to play songs from Spotify, which you can do from the Spotify App (not directly from the Samsung app). Sounds confusing but everyone was able to pick it up quickly. Can only set up 2 rooms, which was fine for us and perfectly acceptable at this price point. We park the amp in the basement next to the router and don't plan on looking at it anytime soon - all functionality can be managed through the app . Thanks Drew (the technician) for the recommendation!
Pros: Can play from almost any source. Affordable. Highly functional. Can be operated through wifi from multiple devices without requiring a BT connection.
Cons: Can only control two sets of speakers

My use is almost exclusively to stream Spotify, plus a little network radio. Powerful, versatile, good for a stereo system using Spotify or other streaming sources. Works with Alexa, but awkward to use that way. Using the Musiccast app is a must. Lack of well-priced Musiccast dongles or preamps limits multiroom use if you already have powered speAkers. WiFi setup was among the worst I've encountered in the past 10 years. Overall a capable system with great sound, but not user-friendly until you set up the wifi and get used to Musiccast. Took off a star for lack of user friendliness. By the way, I got this as "scratch and dent" which was indistinguishable from new, and according to staff has the same warranty and return. Great deal.
Pros: Good sound, versatile streaming
Cons: Not user-friendly

A very excellent Network Stereo Receiver with WiFi, Bluetooth, CD and Phonograph inputs to mention a few. For those that want to modernize their Hi Fi system with an updated electronic system this Receiver is one to consider.
Pros: Excellent performance and appearance and ease of installing.
