Garbage after one year!
Jeremy from HOLT, MI on 1/12/2023
Garbage after one year! After one year of mild use in a secondary viewing room, the soundbar as basically stopped working. Currently, after 3 minutes of use, the lights on the face turn off, the remote no longer does anything, and only a faint sound comes from two of the speakers. If I unplug everything and reconnect, I can get another 3 minutes of use before the same thing happens. Even when it worked correctly, it was not a good unit. The lights and labels on the front are indistinguishable without a flashlight and glasses. The remote functionalality is sluggish at best. I have to guess what sound setting are due to the lack of proper display. There are no buttons on the soundbar at all. The bluetooth will randomly link to all sorts of things. And the sound isn't even that great. This sound bar has been the most frustrating piece of audio equipment I've ever bought.

Great sound bar for the price.
Frank from Fort Oglethorpe, GA on 12/15/2022
I don't have much experience with sound bars, and I purchased a lesser expensive one from another retailer to attempt to get clearer sound from my TV. That didn't work. I bought this Yamaha sound bar and the difference is significant. Its Clear Sound feature works very nicely and, in general, it's a good sound bar for the room (12x12) the TV is in.

Cheap loose fabric & underwhelming sound
Janak from Cedar Park, TX on 8/30/2022
I'm sure the electronics are great but it has cheap loose fabric wrap wrap and underwhelming sound. I am a fan of Yamaha Receivers and expected a lot more from Yamaha. This is a disappointment. Design also sucks it is shorter than deeper, looks ugly! Can get similar sound from some cheaper unbranded soundbars that have decent looks and higher quality finish; Certainly better quality and sound from other products in similar price range.

Bang for the buck
Billy from Cullman, AL on 6/30/2022
For the money I'm pretty impressed with this thing. It does a semi ok job at surround sound. Is it going to complete with a true surround? Definitely not. My dedicated home theater blows it out of the water but this bar was also cheaper than the center channel speaker alone and I don't have to worry about running speaker wires everywhere. The clarity at lower volumes makes it much better than the TV speakers and at high volumes it rattles items in my house. I can't really speak on the atmos but I don't really get much out of the atmos on my dedicated theater either. It's not tiny but fits on my TV stand nicely without sticking out or be obtrusive. It has a lot of bass but sounds more clear with the bass boost turned off. Thats one of the things that drew me to this bar it has an out for my sub I already had. Im not a fan of Bluetooth as I had nothing but trouble out of a previous bar with it. I have a Samsung tv and the remote works the volume. I didn't even have to set it up for anyone like me who was wondering. I haven't connected my phone or internet to it to use any of those features.
Pros: Price, size, minimal wires, true sub out, I can hear understand the voices now,
Cons: Surround is barely existent, no rca inputs

Does not work like I thought it would. When it's working everthing is good. Why does it stop working and then start up again. Is something wrong. If I rub my fingers across the top symbols it starts with more bass. Then a little while later it goes back to somewhat same sound that I was trying to get rid of.

For my modest needs, this is a good value for the money. Definitely significantly better than the TV speakers. The status indicators, which are tiny, face up if it is laid in front of the TV, so they are basically useless without going right up to the bar and putting my glasses on. Status can be determined via the app at least. What I really would like is an onscreen indication of the volume setting - it may be possible that by connecting the bar via eArc so that the TV remote controls the soundbar that info would be available onscreen but for my setupI have to connect via an optical cable. Not that big of a deal to control via sound bar remote, so overall a solid value to get better sound and bluetooth connectivity to iPhone music.

Nice soundbar!
Shawn from Mooresville, NC on 2/6/2022
Nice soundbar for the price! Does help bring out voices although not perfect. Much better than other soundbars if you are hard of hearing. The built in subwoofer was a bit of a surprise at how good it sounds. Not going to rattle walls but definitely gets the job done. Now the app for the soundbar could be improved quite a bit. Sometimes it won't connect at all, sometimes it takes minutes and when it does connect its a bit clunky and lacking of features. All in all I would purchase again. At least for now as I have only had it for 30 days. I will say the Crutchfield support is beyond compare. You may find it a bit cheaper somewhere else but not worth losing the help and expertise Crutchfield provides.

I have been disappointed with a previously purchased system and was looking for an improvement in dialogue intelligibility from a system made up of a Marantz 1509 receiver ,a KEF HF 70000 passive sound bar and a KEF Sub. The HF 7000 , because of its small size, has very limited depth and width of sound stage, absolutely no bass response and the Sub must provide all of the bass and even the lower mid range. I have impaired hearing and listening to TV dialogue has been a chore. I hooked up the Wi-Fi without too much trouble and I know little of current technology. I bought the YAS 109 to alleviate the shortcomings of the above. Surprisingly, the bass is remarkably good for such a small speaker, but you can add a Sub if you want to rattle your neighbors windows, but it is not absolutely necessary;the unit has a wired sub sub woofer output if you are so inclined. The "clear voice" really does help with dialog and the surround features help widen the small sound stage. Add the wi fi features and you get a lot of features for $219.00. I got my unit on sale for $200.00. Eddie, on a chat line was particularly helpful. On the down side the control panel has very tiny lights cannot be seen if you lay the unit flat, but most controls can be set with the remote by using the Yamaha sound bar app. Not as good as a good, high powered receiver system with high large multiple speakers, but in a relatively small room, it works well and well the money worth the money.
Pros: Versatility Control from mobile phone, Good bass for a stand alone sound bar Improved dialogue Price
Cons: Small, difficult to see indicator lights and controls on soundbar.

This soundbar fits the bill. Bought it to upgrade an older system in our master bedroom. It supplies a crisp and well balanced sound in a compact enclosure. If you like pulse pounding bass while watching TV in bed you might want to consider an external powered subwoofer. We found the unit delivers enough bass for general watching though.
Pros: -Supports external powered subwoofer for extra bass -Sleek enclosure -Nice sound output for its size -It's aYamaha!

Good for a bedroom, but not a large room.
Crutchfield customer from Tallahassee, FL on 11/18/2021
I like this soundbar. The clear voice button really does make speech much more clear. A subwoofer is definitely needed for bass, though. I must say it was a little challenging to get internet connectivity through it, but I was able to do so easily once I got the soundbar communicating with my I phone. The surround button works well when also using the movie button for movies. TV button is great for listening to the news and regular t.v. shows. As a lot of other users noted, the buttons themselves are so tiny you need a magnifying glass to read what they are. Additionally, it is not possible to see what buttons are engaged without actually walking over to the speaker and seeing which ones are lit up. Also, the volume level is not indicated by numbers displaying on your tv. Once you get used to how the buttons make the speaker sound, I imagine these things would not be an issue. I did get this on sale and also used some rewards bucks. I am not sure it's worth paying the full retail, though. It's great for a bedroom, but I would not want it as the sound system for a main tv in a large room; it's just not powerful or good enough for that, but it is an improvement over the tv's speakers, which is what most people want in a soundbar at this inexpensive of a price range. If you want a soundbar for your main home theater system in your living room or other larger space, you should be willing to spend much more than this speaker sells for.
Pros: Very small footprint; fits right in front of tv and the length is the same as my tv stand. Option to wall mount, with template included.
Cons: Challenging to figure out how to get an internet connection. Instructions are minimal re: this.

Yamaha YAS-109
Sandra from Sarasota, FL on 7/17/2021
The voice dialogue may not be as clear as our 2011 ZVOX but it is very close. We updated to a smart Samsung TV in 2020 and the old ZVOX didn't have an HDMI output so we ordered this YAS-109. It is connected to the TV's ARC-HDMI. It handles the audio from our TV, PS4, Roku streaming stick and TiVo via their respective remotes. One negative thing is that the tiny lights showing the sound bar source (HDMI, TV, BT or NET) are not visible unless you walk over & look down at them. The label is very fine & low contrast letters so I need good room lighting & reading glasses. Second negative is the Yamaha remote has to remain available to get it out of standby. Sometimes the Yamaha will switch itself to standby and only the Yamaha control will take it out of standby (or walking up to the sound bar and pressing the ON button). At other times, even the next morning, the Yamaha will take itself out of standby and play the expected audio using only the Roku or TiVo remotes. The way we can tell is that some mornings if we use the Roku remote to adjust the volume the TV screen displays "TV speaker". At other times it displays "Receiver HDMI". The source needs to be "Receiver HDMI" to play through the Yamaha soundbar. Third negative is the Pandora app volume on our iPads when streamed over the BT is fairly quiet even at max level while the Pandora app on our Roku that comes over the HDMI source is loud enough to carry across rooms. That said, I would but it again.

Great Addition to Home Office
Crutchfield customer from Lakeland, FL on 7/4/2021
The Yamaha YAS-109 was perfect for my home office. I use it with my Samsung TV. The setup is flawless with an HDMI cord. Be sure to order one if you do not have it. The sound of the YAS-109 is so much richer and clearer than the sound from the pathetic TV speakers. Of particular interest to those that will use it with streaming services like Netflix and Prime, the dialogue is much clearer especially when using the "Clear Voice" option. I love it and would purchase it again.
Pros: Clear Dialogue Rich Sound
Cons: For those with Larger Rooms, a separate subwoofer may be needed

Pat from Illinois on 4/5/2021
This is the first Soundbar I have owned, and I wasn't sure what to expect but this Yamaha definitely exceeds my expectations. Sound quality and detail for movies and tv shows is way better then what you get from the speakers in the TV, and the pair of 3-inch drivers produce a surprising amount of bass. There is a nice variety of features and sound modes, I especially like the separate volume controls for the main speakers and the bass drivers. Remote is nice, and the YAS-109 is a good value for the price, don't go buy something cheap at your local discount store. Really no negative comments at this point.

Good sound but awkward to operate
Crutchfield customer from Solomons, MD on 3/23/2021
I don't have a professional ear but the sound is a definite improvement over the TV speakers. Before we moved we had a fairly complete surround sound set-up through amplifiers with 4 HDMI outputs. But that doesn't fit our downsized condo. I can't give it more stars because the phone app is pathetic, the user guide very incomplete, and if the soundbar is mounted flat below the TV the remote has trouble sending a signal. You have to get up and take a flashlight to see if the remote signal was received and which tiny lights are illuminated. That said, I did buy two because based on others reviews and description I didn't think there was a better alternative in the price range!
Pros: Sound
Cons: Phone app, remote, and indication lights on the soundbar.

Works as advertised
Crutchfield customer from Locust Grove, GA on 3/10/2021
I was in the market for something to help my elderly father-in-law hearing the "talking of TV shows". He is struggling with the voices on TV as most shows have the background music too load which drowns out the speaking of the individuals. I finally called Crutchfield and was fortunate enough to get someone on the phone that was extremely helpful in finding a soundbar that has the feature of "clear voice" . I was certainly skeptical but made the purchase on this recommendation. We installed the soundbar which was very easy and I must say I was very impressed in the difference in hearing the clarity of the voices on the TV.

Easy setup, Alexa on-board, sound fell short...
Rich from New Market on 2/17/2021
Bought one of these to use with an old Panasonic plasma TV as second A/V setup in a downstairs bedroom. Setup was was pretty straightforward, no surprises there. Was hoping to use the remote from my Roku Ultra in conjunction with the ARC HDMI connection on the TV, but no dice. Sound quality was not to my liking - there was noticeably more bass than the TV but less clarity (sounded muddy). Played with settings but to no avail. Tried streaming music just in case the problem was with the Roku or a setting associated with an HDMI connection, but had the same result. Sadly, I ultimately ended up returning this unit in exchange for an HK Enchant 1300, for which I couldn't be happier (does work with Roku Ultra remote, no programming necessary). Please keep in-mind when reading these reviews that the sound profile we prefer is ultimately very subjective. What may sound good to one person, may not to another (and vice versa). So be sure to read enough of these reviews to get a good feel for what people like and what they dislike about this unit. Also, Crutchfield has a great return policy so even if you change your mind, you can still try something different. Hope this review is helpful!
Pros: -Price -Easy setup -Alexa -Easy wall mounting
Cons: -Sounded muddy -Not compatible with Roku remote -Voice clarity was lacking

Crutchfield customer from Bradenton, FL on 11/15/2020
for a small sound bar like the Yas 109, it has great sound; especially the clear sound option for movies is superb; my wife did not want to watch certain movies anymore, since she could not understand half of it, but with this feature, the problems are solved; another good thing is, we were able to eliminate old, big speakers, which were 25 years old and an eyesore; sometimes technology is a good thing; also the Bluetooth is working fine, after I found out how it's done; took a while, but now I am Bluetooth nerd (kind of); I think I can just give my old radio to the Salvation Army;

Very clear sound, subjectively sounds better than YAS-106
Crutchfield customer from Arlington, VA on 9/28/2020
Clear sound, able to fill a somewhat odd shaped room (very high sloped ceilings). Subjective comparison to a YAS-106 we have in another location was that the YAS-109 was an improvement. Relatives in late 70s thought it sounded better with Clear Voice enabled for dialogue, so that was good. HDMI video passthrough works well, sending the signal from an Amazon Fire TV 4K stick. Amazon remote was successfully configured to control the volume in the soundbar and turn the TV off and on (through the passthrough). TV didn't have ARC, so this was necessary. Optical video input was used with a DVD player to take the digital signal from the player -- same issue, TV didn't support ARC. Still experimenting with the Alexa functionality.
Pros: Clear voice, sound quality
Cons: App could use more control options.

Crutchfield customer from Anasco, PR on 9/24/2020
sounds really good for the price, bluetooth has a little lag which is barely noticeable, good sound, 3d surround sound is not as impressive as I thought it was, it doesn't work for movies with too much dialogue because the 's' sounds high pitched and disturbs the ear. Bass extension and clear voice is great and because of these two modes and the good sound quality is the reason of my rating.
Pros: good sound, cheap
Cons: big, 3d surround

Good sound from small unit. Only downside the volume level doesn't show on TV, but Yamaha has an app where you can see the level. Small issue, other than that it's a great upgrade for my TV. You can listen to music with Bluetooth devices which is also great.
Pros: Great improvement over TV speakers. Alexa, listen to music over bluetooth.
Cons: Volume level doesn't show on TV screen.

Look Elsewhere
Robert from SAN RAFAEL, CA on 9/8/2020
As others have noted, not very strong. Slightly better than TV speakers and definitely not my AR4X speakers with an Onkyo receiver. Returned. Excellent help from Crutchfield Mr. Q prior and easy return. Furthermore, no instructions to connect at all other than wiring. Blocks any verbal commands from remotes of Samsung, Comcast Cable, and Roku. Apparently one must use Alexa with which I am unfamiliar. Basically looking for a plug/play speaker for TV and this is definitely not it. Plugged in my little Bose SoundLink into headphone jack and sound much better. Suggest a more powerful and technically superior speaker option. Definitely low end performance.
Pros: Price Excellent service/shipping by Crutchfield
Cons: No connection instructions. Blocks TV,Cable, Roku verbal commands Mediocre sound quality No volume control monitor

OK, but.
Crutchfield customer from Surfside Bch, SC on 8/25/2020
Mixed results. Yes, the sound is better than the tv has. No, it's not great. A minor, but annoying, disappointment the sound level is normally shown with a number on the TV. With the sound bar there's no level indication, just a plus and minus sign to show when you change the level. If you leave the level alone this isn't a problem. If you don't, like us, it is nice to know where you left it so you could go back there if desired. As I said, minor but annoying. In a perfect world I would like the TV makers to have jacks in the back for external speakers, improve their amps a bit and control the sound as usual. Maybe Samsung or LG or Sony are listening?
Pros: Good sound.
Cons: No level indication.

Good soundbar for what it is. Looks good, low profile, easy connection, sub output, and doesn't take up much space. Decent sound for its size and price. The Virtual:X mode sounds noticeably artificial, however. Overall a pretty good option for this price range and will make some people happy, but not myself particularly. You can't expect too much from a 2 channel soundbar with 3 inch "subwoofers." Crutchfield customer service is the best.

Yamaha YAS-109
Mark from Teaneck, NJ on 8/8/2020
Breadth and depth of sound is excellent. No visible indicator of volume level. I wish it were possible to limit the extremes more: if a scene goes from a whisper to a gun shot it can be a bit much. Clear voice setting works well. Wi-Fi settings are limited to 2G only, no 5G. If your phone or tablet is on the 5G settings on your router you aren't able to use them as a remote since the devices all have to be on exactly the same Wi-Fi in order to work together. If you pause video for any length of time the soundbar may go to sleep. Takes a minute to wake up again once you restart. Nice sound for the bucks.
Pros: Good sound for price Easy set up
Cons: No visible indicator of volume on screen

I was very surprised at the performance of this soundbar. I was looking for an economical one just to improve the sound of the poor tv speakers so I thought I would take a chance on this one, considering the Yamaha brand name. The sound from high to low is very good and even the bass is impressive. If you are looking for an affordable unit and do not really need surround sound and concert hall performance give this one a try, I did and am very pleased.

We are absolutely delighted that we purchased the Yamaha YAS-109 soundbar from Crutchfield. Nearly everything about it is better than we had hoped. As an older, hearing-impaired person, I searched for months for a soundbar that would help me hear conversations on the television better. Reviews of Yamaha soundbars praised its "Clear Voice" option as well as other features. Reviews of Crutchfield praised its satisfaction warranty. Since we did not want to use a separate sub-woofer, we opted for the YAS-109 model. It is so good! "Clear Voice" produces really clear voices. The virtual 3D surround sound makes everything sound better. If we want more bass, we can click on "Bass Extension" and it works very well. The Bluetooth connection works well, and, if we used Alexa, I'm sure that would work well, too. Without question, we would recommend this unit for someone who wants a good soundbar at a very reasonable price.

Pretty good but certainly not a replacement for a full surround sound system. I'd say a significant upgrade over tv speakers. Good bass. Bad interface in terms of not knowing what the remote is doing unless you are standing and looking over it. No tv indications and tiny specs of leds to see what's going on. Could not get the system to speak to home network via the app. Not bad like I said. Good enough to add a little more punch than tv speakers.

More Cons than Pros
Glen from Davidsonville on 12/23/2019
The sound was underwhelming, expected more. When setting up the sound bar, it was nearly indistinguishable from the TV sound. Also you can't rename the inputs, like the HDMI input (which 99.9% of users will use for their TV source) is kinda clunky to ask Alexa not to simply turn on TV. Also, couldn't get the power sorted out, soundbar would turn off if turning on the TV after listing to music. Returned.
Pros: None
Cons: poor sound limited inputs (only 1) poor remote no tv interface menu

Yam Sound Bar
Crutchfield customer from Grand Lake, CO on 12/16/2019
The sound is what it is about, and the sound is very good. I'm satisfied with that. One of the things I would like to have seen is a volume level on the screen. I've gotten used to the numerical value ZVOX assigns on the screen to each volume increment. I wish the dashboard on the top of the cabinet was easier to read. I need a flashlight to see it, especially in the dark. The"Info" button is useless. It's supposed to show what functions are in play, but it's impossible to decipher. Even the on-line user guide misses the mark by a mile. But on the whole, I'll keep it. As I mentioned; the sound is what I was looking for. Also, the price and timely delivery were perfect.

Not Build In! Alexa only if you have a smartphone.
Daniel H. from Southport, NC on 11/24/2019
First off sound quality is very good and I like being able to connect an external subwoofer. That's way I gave it Three Stars. I also like the small, simple remote. Now for the negatives. The function lights on the sound bar are very hard to see and the remote doesn't tell you what function you have activated. It also would be nice to have a second HDMI connection to be able to play CD's directly to the sound bar. As for the built in Alexa, you must have a compatible smartphone to set it up. I have a Kindle Fire with Alexa, but still can't access the app that I need to set up Alexa or the Net. Crutchfield was very good with technical support, but the end result was no Alexa or Net.

Nice Sound Bar, Great Crutchfield Service
Crutchfield customer from Woodside, CA on 10/27/2019
Very good basic sound bar that also plays music via bluetooth and has an optional port for a powered subwoofer. The clearvoice setting is nice and the phone app is acceptable. I am amazed at the amount of bass the sound bar has by itself. The first one I ordered arrived DOA. I immediately called Crutchfield and after about 5 minutes of trouble shooting another unit was sent out to me. The second was fine, connected quickly and works as it should. I am in my mid-50's and my upper range of hearing is not so great, this sound bar really helps a lot and if you connect it to a subwoofer the sound is is great!
Pros: Simple setup, decent app, clear voices, multiple settings (stereo, 3D simulated surround etc., port for external subwoofer, low profile, minimal lights. The remote has a seperate volume control for bass and a bass enhancer so you can tune it to your subwoofer. That makes it nice to turn down the bass for news broadcasts and turn it up for action movies.
Cons: Wife does not like 1 more remote. I am having a bit of trouble getting the ARC from my Samsung TV to the sound bar to work so I can use only the TV remote to control both the TV and sound bar.

You're Better Off Using Your TV's Speakers
Gee from Florida on 10/12/2019
This product is my first purchase from Crutchfield, and the product is also my first soundbar. I am used to having a receiver and speakers, but I thought I'd give soundbars a chance since it isn't feasible to incorporate surround sound in one of my rooms. I have heard many great things about Crutchfield. But my first impression of Crutchfield is negative because there is a blemish on the right side of the soundbar. Luckily, the issue is only cosmetic and shouldn't affect the sound quality. However, had this product been an expensive floor standing speaker, a blemish would have been very unacceptable. All products should be treated the same way and with care no matter how much they cost. My first impression of soundbars in general is also negative because the sound quality does not match the price. I have compared the soundbar with my TV's speakers. And there's no major difference. Also, I have issues pairing the product with my smartphone. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I'm not buying a soundbar ever again, and I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.
Pros: The product was delivered as promised. There was nothing complicated to set up. The subwoofer preout works as expected.
Cons: There was a blemish upon arrival. There is no major improvement in sound quality compared to a TV's speakers. Bluetooth doesn't always pair with my smartphone.

Perfect. Relatively small footprint straightforward insulation and 100% upgrade in terms of sound over the television speakers. Pros: Infinitely better than the sound from the television speakers. Great value at this price. Decent bass response especially in a small room. Terrific price

At first I was a bit leery on purchasing this unit because we would not be mounting it on the wall. Evidently the sound bounces off the ceiling. We got it mainly for the Clear Voice and it works fantastic! Dialog from movies, or tv shows is greatly improved. My only grievence is the status bar should be cut into the front edge at a 45 degree so whether the bar lays flat or mounted on the wall the owner can see the status lights.
