Product Research

Advanced YST Technology II: The Advanced Yamaha Active Servo Technology is a unique system in which the speaker and amplifier work together to cancel out impedance so the speaker unit has a perfectly linear motion. By doing this, the YST-FSW150 ensures the highest levels of sound pressure and overall performance.

High Efficiency Amplifier: The 130 watt dynamic power amplifier used in the YST-FSW150 is capable of delivering large amounts of reserve power for accurate reproduction of high energy peaks needed for those extreme action movie moments that require a heavy dose of bass. This technology also emphasizes the dynamic qualities and provides a sharper sound image for music listening.

Driver: The YST-FSW150 uses a down-firing 6.3125" multi-range woofer to create tight and accurate bass. The 6.3125" woofer is also video shielded so you can place the unit close to your TV without harming the Television.

Linear Port Design: The YST-FSW150's bass reflex enclosure uses a front-firing linear port to minimize extraneous noise which helps offer distortion free bass notes.

Mounting: The Yamaha YST-FSW150 powered subwoofer's enclosure design is engineered to be mounted horizontally or vertically. The powered subwoofer features four attached feet which allows you to mount the unit horizontally for a low-profile installation. The YST-FSW150 also comes with a vertical stand and four self-adhesive non-skid pads that allow you to mount the unit vertically if preferred. The unit's subwoofer will be side-firing if mounted vertically.

Power: This control button powers on and off the YST-FSW150.

Volume Control: You can adjust the volume level (0-10) of the subwoofer to match the level of sound from the other speakers in your application.

Line Input: The subwoofer has a rear mounted mono-RCA Line Level input. This input is for use with receiver or amplifiers featuring a filtered subwoofer pre-out jack. You may need a "Y adapter" to connect the left and right outputs of your receiver or amplifier to the YST-FSW150 if your receiver or amplifier features a stereo subwoofer output..

System Connector: The YST-FSW150 features a 3.5mm minijack port for connecting the supplied system control cable. By connecting this cable between the YST-FSW150 and your Yamaha receiver (equipped with a system connector jack) the power of the YST-FSW150 can be controlled by the power button of your connected Yamaha receiver.

Customer Q&A

16 questions already asked

Is this subwoofer dual voltage? (110-240?)
[ Lucas  Jun 26, 2020 ]
3 answers
The version we carry is only meant for use in the USA. It is not a dual voltage model
[ Paul  Jul 12, 2020 ]  Staff
I guess it depends on where you buy it. There appears to be a couple of versions of this. The Owner's Manual says this: VOLTAGE SELECTOR (For Asia and General models only)The voltage selector switch on the bottom panel of this unit must be set for your local main voltage BEFORE plugging this unit into the AC main supply. Voltages are 110-120/220-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz.
[ Vincent  Jul 09, 2020 ]
The one I have does not have dual voltage, but I understand that this model can be found with dual voltage. Good luck.
[ CESAR  Jul 09, 2020 ]
Would it be acceptable to stack this under a cd player and amp/receiver?
[ Chris  Jun 16, 2020 ]
7 answers
You can certainly stack components on it as the size and dimensions make it possible. Not sure your CD player will like the vibration coming from a sub though if it's in direct contact though. I have mine in the bottom shelf of an vertical component rack with the amp/receiver on the shelf above.
[ PAUL  Jun 17, 2020 ]
[ RICHARD V  Jun 17, 2020 ]
I wouldn't recommend it.
[ Tyler  Jun 17, 2020 ]
I would put the CD player on the speaker but not a amp/receiver,
[ Richard  Jun 16, 2020 ]
I don't see why you couldn't however I would rather not have what's up well for under my electronics. I think I read a review or a comment that someone did something like this
[ William  Jun 16, 2020 ]
I have mine on a shelf independent of any other components. I think it would be ok for under an amp, not so sure if under a cd player would work well
[ Herbert  Jun 16, 2020 ]
One of the reasons I purchased this sub was that it was magnetically shielded which should protect any device that may be in close proximity. I would just make sure it does not directly contact another device due to the potential of vibration from the sub. Also would make sure wherever I place the sub it has a solid surface to sit on due to random vibrations. Good luck!
[ MARK G  Jun 16, 2020 ]
is this subwoofer compatible with Onkyo TX-8140 receiver? The product information indicates this subwoofer is intended for use with receivers that have a filtered subwoofer output. I don't know whether Onkyo TX-8140 has a filtered sub out connection or not.
[ Robert  May 25, 2020 ]
1 answer
Onkyo does not specify in their manual if this subwoofer preamp output is filtered on that receiver. I recommend contacting their support on 800-229-1687 find out if it does

Can the Yamaha XWC-50 preamp be used in home audio with the Crown XLS2002 pwr amp ?

Yes...The Yamaha YST-FSW150 subwoofer provides sufficient low end bass for a small to midsize room if you crank up it's volume. .
[ Alexander  Apr 22, 2020 ]
I don't use a power amp in my setup so I do not know. That said, I have the FSW150 running straight from a Sony STR-DH590 amp (brand new, purchased circa Oct/Nov 2019) and have ZERO complaints; the sub absolutely thumps (I have Klipsch bookshelves for L/R and a Polk center channel).
[ chuck  Apr 22, 2020 ]
Yamaha compact sub FSW150 can NOT BE USED with the R-N303 because the amp does not have a low pass filter ( no sub out ) correct ? Can someone explain what that means ? I'm new to this hobby. Terms like low pass filter & line level or confusing to me.

Glad you told me, have been using mine for two years with no problems. YARO sys things are fine as of yesterday. Took about two minutes to connect, look at the diagram sent with the Yamaha sub and the diagram sent with the R-N303. Remember to connect both cables Good product, like mine. dgs
[ DAVID GENE  Apr 23, 2020 ]
Most amps and receivers have a sub out connection which is basically a low pass filter. It's called a low pass filter because it filters out all the frequencies other than the low frequencies. You would connect a sub woofer to this output to utilize the low frequencies and produce the low bass. If your component doesn't have a sub out, connecting a sub woofer to any other output will defeat the purpose and function of a sub woofer as your regular speaker connection outputs send all frequencies out.
[ MK  Apr 22, 2020 ]
will the YST-FSW150 work with the RX-v585 receiver? Will the sub turn off when the receiver is turned off?
[ Jodi S  Nov 13, 2019 ]
2 answers
Yes, they work together just fine. Turning off the receiver does NOT turn off the sub.
[ William  Nov 13, 2019 ]
Yes but you do have to switch in and off separately.
[ peter  Nov 13, 2019 ]
I have a Boston Clock Radio. This radio has a RCA (LR) audio output. The radio has a feature that allows this normal RCA output to be set for a subwoofer. The radio's manual says the output signal in the submode is not low pass. Also, It appears this Yamaha subwoofer does not have a low pass adjustment knob like most subs.. Would this Yamaha subwoofer work with my Boston? I love the Boston radio but would like to add some base to it. Thanks.

I`m sorry but Crutchfield should help. I bought two separate sub`s & had bad luck with both. I think trouble is in my Yamaha amp, how ever Crutchfield was very helpful in both case`s, sorry Bill.
[ WILLIAM C  Jan 25, 2018 ]
I can't imagine this wouldn't work, but can't say for sure. You still have level control on the sub. I love mine. Sounds great.
[ George  Jan 25, 2018 ]
Will the on/off feature work with my Yamaha RX-V467 receiver?
[ Scott  Aug 14, 2017 ]

Yes. Our on off configuration controls both the main projection and sub woofer
[ HERBERT  Aug 18, 2017 ]
Call Crutchfield, they'll know.
[ David  Aug 15, 2017 ]
The on/off works just fine foe my unit. Means 1 less remote to have next to me.
[ Henry  Aug 15, 2017 ]
I do not believe so as it does not work with my Sony receiver. I usually leave them on as it does t bother anything. They do sound good to.
[ FRED  Aug 14, 2017 ]
It should. I have an older Yamaha receiver and it works for mine.
[ Julius  Aug 14, 2017 ]
Would this be a good pairing for the NAD D3020?
[ Eric  Aug 19, 2016 ]
1 answer
The Yamaha YST-FSW150 can connect to the NAD D 3020 via the subwoofer output on the NAD. The Yamaha would complement the NAD D 3020 nicely in a desktop stereo system. I hope that helps! My Bio:

What other speakers can it be paired with?
[ craig  Feb 02, 2016 ]
2 answers
If your amp or receiver has an RCA subwoofer output jack then it will work with any speaker system
[ Alexander  Apr 22, 2020 ]
The Yamaha YST-FSW150 has a rear mounted mono-RCA Line Level input for use with any receiver, amplifier or powered soundbar system featuring a subwoofer pre-out jack. It also features a 3.5mm minijack port for connecting the supplied system control cable between the YST-FSW150 and your Yamaha receiver (equipped with a system connector jack). This makes it so the power of the subwoofer can be controlled by the power button of your connected Yamaha receiver. So it can be paired with any other receiver or speaker system, but only offers system control compatibility with select Yamaha components. My Bio:

will it have auto on/off if paired with a Yamaha aventage RX 750 receiver?
[ mike  Nov 26, 2015 ]
1 answer
It should work because the "system control port" send power to trigger the subwoofer and the Yamaha RX-A750 has a 12V trigger output.

Im looking for a subwoofer to connect to my vizio soundbar. The sound bar has a mono rca out and i was wonfering if this is a good option to consider? My main concern is compatibility.

I've been a Crutchfield customer for nearly 30 years and keep coming back for the great products and outstanding customer support. Ask a tech at Crutchfield for compatibility with any specific system. They are great. As for the Yamaha YST-FSW150 compact subwoofer I purchased, I connected it to a vintage Yamaha Natural Sound CD Receiver CRX TS10. . .with spectacular results. Good luck in your search.
[ Raymond  Jan 06, 2015 ]
Matthew, You will have no problem with compatibility using a mono RCA cable. I have a Yamaha subwoofer connected to my Visio soundbar through a RCA cable in our living room, and the sound is excellent. You will have to balance the amount of bass required from your subwoofer with your soundbar to get the optimum overall sound. Regards, Tobias

Will it work with an Onkyo home theater receiver?
[ Jenna  Dec 07, 2014 ]

yes it will work and should be a nice addition to your system
[ DAVID  Dec 08, 2014 ]
I have two of these speakers there great it should work with any receiver.
[ EDWARD P  Dec 08, 2014 ]
I had Onkyo and used HSU sub but I now have a yamaha amp and use this because the HSU was too big for my space. I can't see why this wouldn't work very well with the Onkyo.
[ ARTHUR  Dec 08, 2014 ]
If needed can I put it in its side?
[ Andy  Nov 30, 2014 ]
3 answers
I have one on it's side yes you can
[ EDWARD P  Dec 08, 2014 ]
I would assume you could place the unit on its side. I believe the bass is enhanced by the downfire into the shelf it rests on. It would definitely look better in its designed orientation, but if that isn't an issue for you I would think you will be ok. Perhaps placing it on its side with the feet as close to a side wall as possible would be an option. The reason I purchased this particular unit was because of my entertainment center design. I would have preferred a more typical upright subwoofer as I believe the design allows for better bass response.
[ Edward Ford  Dec 01, 2014 ]
Absolutely, it can be oriented vertically with no issues. I actually have mine in that exact setup, as I wanted to hide it behind my one couch, and it works awesome, great sound from such a compact unit! Also, the round (silver) feet you see in the picture are also easily removable! (one simple wood screw in each). I absolutely love this sub, it's perfect for where I have mine (main family room) where I want to hear it but not see it!
