Simple elegant design that packs a lot of punch. This Yamaha replaced a bigger sub and it sounds much better. Room is small 15X20 and the bass fills the sound in very well. Fits in the entertainment shelf very nicely and sounds awesome.

Simple elegant design that packs a lot of punch. This Yamaha replaced a bigger sub and it sounds much better. Room is small 15X20 and the bass fills the sound in very well. Fits in the entertainment shelf very nicely and sounds awesome.

Pros: Sounds clear and great. Easy, simple wiring to receiver. Just one big button to energize and another to adjust bass output.

Cons: not one!

Small footprint with excellent sound!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfect fit for my Polk home theater system. arrive securely packaged with decent instructions. Quality is excellent, and sound is fabulous, especially considering its size, which made placement easy and was my priority when ordering a sub.

Pros: Fits underneath my tv furniture, easily connected and it sounds great. Quality matches my expectation of Yamaha

Cons: None. For my needs it is perfect.

Functional and fits the space

Ray from Madison, MS on 8/21/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Provides good bottom end support for a secondary home theater system. Fits nicely under the furniture holding the TV (the primary consideration). Not super powerful given its size, but fits this system well. A little boomy, but for what it is, it works very well.

Compact unit with great bass.

Andrew from Bristol, PA on 7/16/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great little unit that fits nicely on a tight shelf. Love that the controls are easily accessible on the face - not on the rear. Have it set up with some Bose satellite speakers and fills the entire room with deep bass. Was the only option I found that would fit on the shelf I have. Great buy!

Pros: Compact design; controls on the front of the unit

Cons: None.

Great sounding, looking and size subwoofer!

Crutchfield customer from Ashburn, VA on 6/13/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I originally purchased the Orb mini-sub and was not happy with the bass as it could no go low enough to make movies sound like they should. This small sub with it's flatter profile and some magical porting generates the deep sounds you expect to hear. Yet, it has similar specs as the Orb mini-sub as far as driver size and power. Don't get me wrong, it's not going to shake anything in a large room such as I have it in, but somehow you hear that deep bass that is supposed to be there. Somehow, maybe using some tricks that Bose (at a much higher premium) employs, this little relatively lower power sub sounds much bigger than it is. Well done Yamaha!

Pros: Sound Looks Size Price

Cons: None

Does a great job in a tight space

Timothy from Phoenix, AZ on 2/9/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just what I needed, although my wife may disagree. I'm doing a major master bathroom upgrade, increasing bath and closet space, nice big walking shower, soaking tub....and electronics: 55" UHD television, Klipsch in wall speakers (replace previous Klipsch 8" bookshelf speakers), and this Yamaha sub. I have real space issues where I could hide a sub that would pair nicely with my Klipsch speakers. Under a corner cabinet I had 6.75"x16"x18" space adjacent to these cabinets I had less than a 12x12 space (if I had a 12x12 space I'd have uses a SVS sub) this Yamaha just squeaked under the corner cabinet with the help of some 2" silicon leg caps (which also isolate the sub from rubbing/vibrating the cabinet. Once in place, after a little tuning (Yamaha front mounted (on my side) made this pretty easy (with 2 people). Now I've got the low end I was missing in my approximate 300 sq ft bath with cathedral ceilings. BTW while I was doing the build out I installed 1" solid purple insulation (R5) in all of the walls as a sound block, what a difference this made through out the house. This little Yamaha does not have the low end boom of a SVS, but it had sufficient kick (with my tile floors) mounted in a corner to do a good job. Just what I was looking for

Pros: Size

Pete from South Carolina on 10/18/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My main objective was to find a subwoofer that was compact and could fit on the bottom of acabinet shelf, rather than on the floor. I knew from the stated dimensions that this init would fit my requirements. What I didn't know was how great the bass would resonant in my rather large (20 x 20) and open great room. Once I set the volume level and went thru the Onkyo speaker setup, the sound exceeded my expectation.

Pros: Compact, low profile and good bass.

Cons: Auto off/on only works with Yamaha unit equipped with system connector jack

Gives new depth to bookshelf speakers

Bill from Florida on 3/25/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub gives depth to our Polk Tsi 200 speakers. At first we were reluctant to try a sub because we didn't want the "boom, boom, boom" sound and vibrations. We just wanted to make our existing speakers sound even better. And that's what this Yamaha sub does. It fits on out bookshelves too. We did have some trouble setting the receiver to work with the sub, but the Crutchfield tech support helped us set thing up right as always.

Pros: well integrated bass, sub fits on a bookshelf,

SDC from Grafton, MA on 1/17/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased a 150 a few years ago and found the base to be a little shallow until I set it on it's side with the speaker against the wall, which helped. My wife decided (for me) that in our new house the sub needs to be placed within our equipment credenza so that is where the sub went and so with it went the base depth. I purchased a second sub and placed it on the shelf right above. The look great and sound great also. The base is not as deep at my old velodyne UDL 12 but with no foot print and great looks, two 150s was a great choice.

Pros: Fits in equipment cabinet on a shelf, has great looks

Cons: Shallow base, I needed two to fill the room

Great product, as long as you aren't looking for huge bass

Drew from Austin, TX on 8/8/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The form factor is great for me and fits perfectly in the cabinets in my family room. Setup is ridiculously simple, just plug in power and the subwoofer cable and you are on your way. As you would expect with a small subwoofer, the bass is not overpowering. A nice addition if you are looking for subtle bass, but probably not if you are looking to crank up the latest hip hop album. It would be great to have remote control capability, it's a hassle to manually turn it on and off every time.

Pros: Unique form factor is great for adding to your entertainment center, looks great, easy to set up

Cons: Bass is not as strong as larger subwoofers, might not give you the punch you are looking for (especially for music)

Ok for Small Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ok so my setup is denon avr 1613, pair of polk tsi 400. Mostly music listening with a few movies. I purchased the Yamaha subwoofer to compliment my speakers....well I returned the sub....Crutchfield support is awesome also thanks for the. Tsi 400s they sound great

Pros: Slim

Cons: Not much "punch"

Great for tight spaces

TM from SFBay, CA on 5/16/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Requires a pre with bass filter capabilities, but you should know that going in. Does a good job at rendering low level details without shaking the whole house, and I really like the ability to power on/off and adjust volume from the front panel.

Pros: Great for utilizing rack space instead of floor space; reasonable price.

Cons: Lack of low/high pass filter may be a deal breaker for some.

RD from OH on 8/27/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Gave me what I needed without overkill. The typical theater sound setups tend to lack good bass response without a Sub, and this filled that sufficiently filled that gap.

Pros: Good price, and doesn't take much space. Appears to have solid bass response.

Cons: None so far.

Great Space Saving Subwoofer

Paul from West Lafayette, IN on 12/1/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was interested in this sub because of it's unique size. My wife didn't want a large sub sitting on the floor of the living room and she liked that I was able to place this one on a shelf below my components. I was skeptical at first that it wouldn't sound very good but once I plugged it in and tested some movies and music, I was pretty impressed with the sound. If you need a small, space-saving sub, this is a great solution.

Pros: Great size. Sounded better than I expected.

Not for everyone

Phil D from Easton MD on 11/27/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The size/form factor of this product was perfect for my application. However, the lack of a crossover frequency control is a big disadvantage. The out of the box crossover frequency (~154Hz) is too high for me and I'll bet most applications unless you have really small main speakers. If you don't care about the warranty, it only takes 3 resistor changes to drop the crossover frequency. So, now that I have voided my warranty and dropped the crossover frequency, I am pleased with my purchase.

Pros: Size/Form factor

Cons: No crossover frequency adjustment.

Great Sub and Small Footprint

Dave from Covington Va on 4/6/2011

Just bought this speaker, but have been using it for a week. Boy is it great!! Tight Bass, no booming, have it on its side so it takes up even less room. I tried another sub from Infinity, and although this is a little more expensive it has better sound and is smaller and lighter

Made for each other

howard from Bellflower,CA on 1/25/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This small subwoofer is connected to my Yamaha YSP-1000 in my living room, a small 15'X15' space, and truly makes the movies come alive on my SonyXBR. I have not used my Yamaha Receiver with it's surround six speaker system since adding this YST-FSW150 to my old Yamaha YSP-1000 sound bar. Wow, suddenly I realize I don't need all the extra sound equipment on my Bell'O entertainment stand. See, less IS sometimes BEST!

Good sound in a small package.

Benjamin from Hampden, ME on 8/28/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this subwoofer to place under a custom make stereo shelf and it fits perfectly. It produces a decent amount of bass for its small size, but don't expect it to hit like a 10" or 12" woofer. If you tune it to match the volume of the other speakers, you can crank up the music and it doesn't distort or bottom out. And one of the nice things is when it's powered on or off it doesn't make a harsh snapping or popping sound like some other models do. Something to keep in mind is that it lacks a cross over dial to limit the high end frequencies, so it does reproduce a little more then it needs (Ex: 100+ Hz range). But this is not an issue if you can limit it from your receiver. Over all, a well designed, good sounding woofer for those looking to round out a small stereo setup or space conscious surround sound package.

Great Solution

matt from Memphis, TN on 7/19/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sub sounds even better than I expected. It is small enough to fit under a shelf and projects extremely well. If you need a small sub, this is a great solution.

Advanced YST Technology II: The Advanced Yamaha Active Servo Technology is a unique system in which the speaker and amplifier work together to cancel out impedance so the speaker unit has a perfectly linear motion. By doing this, the YST-FSW150 ensures the highest levels of sound pressure and overall performance.

High Efficiency Amplifier: The 130 watt dynamic power amplifier used in the YST-FSW150 is capable of delivering large amounts of reserve power for accurate reproduction of high energy peaks needed for those extreme action movie moments that require a heavy dose of bass. This technology also emphasizes the dynamic qualities and provides a sharper sound image for music listening.

Driver: The YST-FSW150 uses a down-firing 6.3125" multi-range woofer to create tight and accurate bass. The 6.3125" woofer is also video shielded so you can place the unit close to your TV without harming the Television.

Linear Port Design: The YST-FSW150's bass reflex enclosure uses a front-firing linear port to minimize extraneous noise which helps offer distortion free bass notes.

Mounting: The Yamaha YST-FSW150 powered subwoofer's enclosure design is engineered to be mounted horizontally or vertically. The powered subwoofer features four attached feet which allows you to mount the unit horizontally for a low-profile installation. The YST-FSW150 also comes with a vertical stand and four self-adhesive non-skid pads that allow you to mount the unit vertically if preferred. The unit's subwoofer will be side-firing if mounted vertically.

Power: This control button powers on and off the YST-FSW150.

Volume Control: You can adjust the volume level (0-10) of the subwoofer to match the level of sound from the other speakers in your application.

Line Input: The subwoofer has a rear mounted mono-RCA Line Level input. This input is for use with receiver or amplifiers featuring a filtered subwoofer pre-out jack. You may need a "Y adapter" to connect the left and right outputs of your receiver or amplifier to the YST-FSW150 if your receiver or amplifier features a stereo subwoofer output..

System Connector: The YST-FSW150 features a 3.5mm minijack port for connecting the supplied system control cable. By connecting this cable between the YST-FSW150 and your Yamaha receiver (equipped with a system connector jack) the power of the YST-FSW150 can be controlled by the power button of your connected Yamaha receiver.

I`m sorry but Crutchfield should help. I bought two separate sub`s & had bad luck with both. I think trouble is in my Yamaha amp, how ever Crutchfield was very helpful in both case`s, sorry Bill. [ WILLIAM C  Jan 25, 2018 ]
I can't imagine this wouldn't work, but can't say for sure. You still have level control on the sub. I love mine. Sounds great. [ George  Jan 25, 2018 ]

It should. I have an older Yamaha receiver and it works for mine. [ Julius  Aug 14, 2017 ]
The Yamaha YST-FSW150 can connect to the NAD D 3020 via the subwoofer output on the NAD. The Yamaha would complement the NAD D 3020 nicely in a desktop stereo system. I hope that helps! My Bio: [ Larry  Aug 22, 2016 ]  Staff
The Yamaha YST-FSW150 has a rear mounted mono-RCA Line Level input for use with any receiver, amplifier or powered soundbar system featuring a subwoofer pre-out jack. It also features a 3.5mm minijack port for connecting the supplied system control cable between the YST-FSW150 and your Yamaha receiver (equipped with a system connector jack). This makes it so the power of the subwoofer can be controlled by the power button of your connected Yamaha receiver. So it can be paired with any other receiver or speaker system, but only offers system control compatibility with select Yamaha components. My Bio: [ Larry  Feb 04, 2016 ]  Staff
It should work because the "system control port" send power to trigger the subwoofer and the Yamaha RX-A750 has a 12V trigger output. [ Paul  Nov 30, 2015 ]  Staff
I've been a Crutchfield customer for nearly 30 years and keep coming back for the great products and outstanding customer support. Ask a tech at Crutchfield for compatibility with any specific system. They are great. As for the Yamaha YST-FSW150 compact subwoofer I purchased, I connected it to a vintage Yamaha Natural Sound CD Receiver CRX TS10. . .with spectacular results. Good luck in your search. [ Raymond  Jan 06, 2015 ]
Matthew, You will have no problem with compatibility using a mono RCA cable. I have a Yamaha subwoofer connected to my Visio soundbar through a RCA cable in our living room, and the sound is excellent. You will have to balance the amount of bass required from your subwoofer with your soundbar to get the optimum overall sound. Regards, Tobias [ Mr.  Jan 02, 2015 ]
yes it will work and should be a nice addition to your system [ DAVID  Dec 08, 2014 ]
I have two of these speakers there great it should work with any receiver. [ EDWARD P  Dec 08, 2014 ]
I had Onkyo and used HSU sub but I now have a yamaha amp and use this because the HSU was too big for my space. I can't see why this wouldn't work very well with the Onkyo. [ ARTHUR  Dec 08, 2014 ]
I have one on it's side yes you can [ EDWARD P  Dec 08, 2014 ]
I would assume you could place the unit on its side. I believe the bass is enhanced by the downfire into the shelf it rests on. It would definitely look better in its designed orientation, but if that isn't an issue for you I would think you will be ok. Perhaps placing it on its side with the feet as close to a side wall as possible would be an option. The reason I purchased this particular unit was because of my entertainment center design. I would have preferred a more typical upright subwoofer as I believe the design allows for better bass response. [ Edward  Dec 01, 2014 ]
Absolutely, it can be oriented vertically with no issues. I actually have mine in that exact setup, as I wanted to hide it behind my one couch, and it works awesome, great sound from such a compact unit! Also, the round (silver) feet you see in the picture are also easily removable! (one simple wood screw in each). I absolutely love this sub, it's perfect for where I have mine (main family room) where I want to hear it but not see it! [ MICHAEL  Dec 01, 2014 ]
