Amp up your bass with Denon's Urban Raver
Amp up your bass with Denon's Urban Raver
Some kinds of music require more bass than most headphones can deliver. Thanks to Denon's AH-D400 Urban Raver, rap, hip-hop, techno, funk and go-go will no longer lack the low end. A built-in amplifier ensures these headphones pack the power to give your music that deep rumble without ignoring the important details in the mid and high frequencies. If the bass gets too strong, just turn off the amp and the AH-D400 tones it down.
The AH-D400 features a built-in control wheel on the right earcup, giving you full control of your iPod®, iPhone®, or iPad®. The center button lets you play and pause music, as well as answer calls and hang up. Don't look for a microphone on the cord it's built right into the earcup for clear conversations wherever you are. Turn the rotary wheel as easily as you would a stereo knob to adjust the volume of calls and music. The wheel is even surrounded by a circular blue LED light on each earcup, making these headphones as eye-catching as they are great-sounding.

Denon AH-D400 Urban Raver reviews
I did a lot of research on options before I bought a pair of headphones and wondered how they would compare to Beats by Dre and Bose Quiet Comfort 15. I listen to a wide variety of music but I like a smooth bass with kick in it. The Denon AH-D400 blew it out of the box. I have worn Beats and listened to music on them, but their bass isn't as clean, and punchy as the 400's. With the amp on you get unbeatable sound. The first time I listened to these I was amazed at how clean, but still how loud the bass could get: there wasn't much distortion. These are very comfortable headphones and you shouldn't run into any problems with them on. I think they look cool in their own way as well, more of a mainstream look like Beats, but not as much of a classy look like Bose. The control dials are bulky, and I was worried how I would look with them on. After listening to them I wouldn't have even cared if they looked like two rusty cans on my head, they sounded outstanding and had easy controls for my iPod. They are durable as well. I've had problems with ear cushions coming off in the past but these are very sturdy. With them on they cancel some noise, but not as good as Bose. Noise reduction has only made a difference to me when I wanted silence, but I usually have music on anyway. Overall these are great headphones with definitive bass and treble. Great for alternative, pop, rock, hip hop/rap, techno, and dubstep. For acoustic/country listeners I would stick with Bose.
Pros: The amplifier is a huge plus. Just charge it and it's good to go. In passive mode it is better to listen to acoustic music, but anything else is great for the amp. The control dial makes controlling your iPod very convenient and easy. Calls work good on the iPhone. The LED light turns off with the press of a button. GREAT AND UNBEATABLE SOUND IS ALWAYS A PLUS.
Cons: Kind of bulky. The control dials stick out far but it doesn't matter to me much at all anymore, they sound too good to worry about that. I also wish they came with a more durable case, rather than pouch. Still unbelievable headphones.

Amplified Drivers: The AH-D400 Urban Raver over-ear headphones feature 50mm drivers powered by a built-in amplifier. This combination gives you explosive bass response and enhanced treble. The headphone amplifier runs on a 3.7 volt Lithium-polymer rechargeable battery, which provides up to 12 hours of use on a full charge. The amplifier can be switched on or off via a 2-way switch, while a red LED on the left earcup indicates the level of battery charge. You can turn on or off the blue LEDs on both earcups as you listen, if desired. The headphones can still be used in the passive mode after the battery power runs out. The battery charges via the supplied USB cable.
Compatibility: The headphones feature integrated Apple-compatible controls and microphone on the right earpiece. These can control music operation on compatible Apple devices and conduct phone calls or perform voice recognition activities. The AH-D400s are compatible with iPod nano (4th gen or later), iPod classic (120GB/160GB), iPod touch (2nd gen or later), iPod shuffle (3rd gen and later), iPhone (3GS, 4, and 4S), and iPad. Audio is supported by all iPod models, as well as virtually any device with a 3.5mm minijack output.
On-ear Remote/Microphone: Denon's patent-pending Control Wheel, located on the right ear piece, gives you control of your iPod, iPhone, and iPad. The volume can be raised or lowered incrementally with a twist of the wheel. While listening to music, you can control playback by pressing the center of the wheel for play/pause, next track, previous track, fast forward, and fast reverse. Phone controls include answer/end a call, switch to an incoming or on-hold call, put a call on hold, or decline a call.
Headphone Cable: The headphones have a 55" Teflon-coated OFC cable with a 3.5mm miniplug terminal. The clear, low-friction outer coating helps keep the cable from getting tangled and reduces the chance you'll get contact noise as you move. A 3.5mm-to-1/4" adapter is included for listening to home components with a full-sized headphone output.
Comfortable Fit: The AH-D400 Music Maniac headphones are designed for comfort and fit. Denon's patent-pending Pentagonally-shaped Memory Foam Ear Pads provide superior comfort. The ear cups feature two-axis articulation and an adjustable padded headband to give you a perfect, custom fit.

The app gives you access to song lyrics, and create and store custom playlists. With the TuneIn Internet Radio service, you can listen to any of over 50,000 internet radio stations.
