Denon's AVR-X2400H delivers outstanding audio and video performance. Bring movies and music to life

Denon's AVR-X2400H delivers outstanding audio and video performance. This versatile entertainment hub works with your 4K TV and Blu-ray player, and it will even upscale standard- and high-definition HDMI video signals to 4K resolution. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X bring movie soundtracks to life with heart-pounding realism.

This receiver includes some useful options for easy integration into a home automation system. Getting all your gear hooked up is a breeze thanks to Denon's Setup Assistant and Audyssey speaker calibration system. The free Denon AVR Remote app gives you easy control of your home theater from a compatible mobile device.

Set up a wireless whole-home audio system with HEOS

With built-in HEOS technology, the AVR-X2400H can be easily integrated into a wireless multi-room audio system. Stream music to HEOS wireless speakers in different rooms, and control each room's speakers independently with the free HEOS app. The app lets you control playback, browse music sources, and select which rooms you want to use. Play the same music throughout your home, or listen to something different in each room. You can play music from your own personal library, internet radio, and popular streaming services like Pandora®, Spotify®, and TIDAL, just to name a few.

A world of music at your fingertips

The AVR-X2400H's Wi-Fi lets you access your own digital music library through your home network, and Bluetooth lets you stream anything you like from your phone or tablet. This powerful receiver even offers convenient playback of several different high-resolution audio formats through the front-panel USB port or a networked computer.

Music and video in a second room

The AVR-X2400H has outputs for seven speakers, so you can enjoy a 5-channel home theater setup in your living room and reassign the rear surround channels to power a pair of speakers in a separate room. Relax to your favorite tunes on the patio while the rest of the family takes in a movie with surround sound in the living room.

A second HDMI output lets you watch the same video source in your main zone and a second room. Start a movie in your living room and finish it in your bedroom or kitchen. Or watch the same content on a TV and projector in the same room.

I really like this receiver. I upgraded from one I have had for at least 10 years, so comparing to that one, this one is amazing! There is plenty of features and has the flexibility I needed in my set up. Using it as a 5.1.2 for now. Sound adjustment per speaker was a nice to have. I don't think you can go wrong with Denon, especially buying Denon from Crutchfield. The staff are bar none the best people to work with!

Pros: Easy Set Up Plenty of Feature

    Cons: Two separate apps needed

Good receiver. Most of the electronics are smart but sometimes you have to force it to play in stereo when your listening to stereo. As with most stereos I've seen, the app sucks, not sure why the industry can't seem to find good programmers. You have to use two apps to run a stereo? Comeon .

    Cons:

    Good sound

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my third Demon I have owned. My first Demon went 10 years, I was hoping for more years of service. I wish you could change the default when you turn the receiver on. I have all my components in a closet and since I cannot change the default, I need to go into the closet and change it to either cable or blue ray. That is a inconvenience. Crutchfield tech support was great in helping me set up the receiver.

Pros: Install was simplistic and I like the way you can adjust for each speaker

Cons: I do not like the default when you turn on the receiver. It's defaults to TV and you cannot change it. So I need to turn cable each it I turn on the system (TV, cable box and receiver).

Good receiver with a lot of features, good for movies. Music sound from CD source is terrible. Direct/pure direct mode cut off a lot of sound (low notes).

Pros: Up to date features, good sound from movies.

Cons: In terms of music sound it's a disaster, the direct/pure direct modes are just attenuating the low range and you get a scrap sound. No better than my previous Panasonic receiver.

    Great sound

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Solid product, but the programming can be tricky especially if using old components. Technical Support was able to help resolve. The setup indicated a speak phase issue, however when I reversed, the issue would come and go anytime I did the speaker test. Also, manual setup seemed to do a bit better. Gives very good flexibility when customizing input settings. The sound wasn't any better than my 15y/o Yamaha system but needed to upgrade receiver to allow other devices to communicate with it.

Pros: Good value Stylish and simple display Very customizable

Cons: Setup with older components is tricky Unit is 2-days old, so none to report

Scott from Franklin, WI on 11/15/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just replaced my 18 year old Denon AVR with this new one. My rear projection TV finally died and I got a new LG TV. However, I wanted to switch from component cables to HDMI and my old AVR didn't support that change. The new TV and the new AVR are a perfect match and I'm enjoying both very much in my theater. Denon technology is amazing. I would own nothing else.

Pros: Features, quality, incredibly easy and automated setup, flexibility for any configuration.

    Cons: Absolutely none.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Denon AVR-X2400H is a great receiver. It is simple to setup and easy to use. The speaker calibration tool also works well. I used to think my Bose surround sound speakers just didn't work well and boy was I wrong. The Denon receiver brought the speakers to life and I now have great surround sound. I use the receiver as the hub for all my inputs: TV, Apple TV, Blue Ray DVD, and my PS4. I would highly recommend this product.

Pros: Good price, ease of use

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very capable product with new music capabilities that make it top line for the money. I would have given it 5stars, but the complexity of dealing with it as a manager of the home theater is not simple. The set up is simple, but one little glitch sends you to the help screens and telephone. I waited too long for a response from Denon. I will re review this when I finally get a call back.

Pros: 90% of the technology available to home theater is in this product. Good vale.

Cons: Would like to have seen 24 /7 telephone support from Denon, but they do stay open for 1/2 of Saturday. Complex product is not easy to deal with the multi variant equation of sound and connections.

I have been converted and now loyal to Denon with receivers in the Family Room, Living Room and Master Bedroom. This receiver replaced a 10 yr old Denon that failed. Each generation has been even better.

Pros: Easy set up. Great sound.

Cons: Although it has Bluetooth input for my iPhone, I wish also a Bluetooth speaker output for my ear phones. The programming and features are a bit confusing to set up. I would say that this is true of Denon devices. They are just not self intuitive.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought my AVR-X2400 from Crutchfield 4 weeks ago. After having some time to play with this unit, I have to say it's really a great piece of A/V equipment. The on-screen set up menu will walk you through all of steps needed, including speaker calibration. The unit did require a firmware update after I set it all up, and that took about 20 minutes, but aside from that it was quick and easy. The remote control itself is good but the RC app is just OK, nothing amazing. However, the HEOS app is very, very nice. I use it more than anything else. It lets you choose your music source from a wide range of options, among other things. I have seen other reviews that comment about amp volume not being as loud as they expected. I don't know what volume levels they are used to, but my Denon unit will get so loud it almost hurts, so I don't know what those people are complaining about. The most important aspect of an A/V receiver is the sound quality, and this unit has great sound in my opinion. The highs are crisp, the vocals are rich, and the bass is clean. Would I recommend this unit? Absolutely.

Picked this up for my living room surround sound plus a couple other speakers in the kitchen I can run thru Zone 2. So far it has been GREAT! I have not fully set up the additional speakers yet but the main system sounds GREAT! The HEOS system is easy to use and understand, I am a tech challenged person, and its been a breeze. Also got a HEOS 5 speaker for the bedroom and its was easy to figure out and I can add or remove it from the main system with a phone swipe.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Doug at Crutchfield was extremely helpful in determining the best AVR to fit my needs and pocketbook. He took the time to understand my current system and how I used it and recommended 3 different AVRs in my price range. The Denon AVR arrived undamaged in 3 days and was a breeze to set up. I had a couple of questions, and Crutchfield's service folks answered my calls immediately, and I could understand them (very important issue these days). The AVR works great, functioned exactly as advertised, and I couldn't be happier. A lot of AVR for the money!

The receiver showed up 3 days after I ordered it and I set it up that evening. The on screen set up was easy to work through and my system was up and running in about an hour. The surround sound is great (5.1) and the rear channel was set up as zone 2 for my patio speakers. I am very happy with this receiver. The AVR and HEOS apps both work great, can sit on the patio and adjust the receiver volume and inputs through the apps.

Ron from Bakersfield, CA on 8/11/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I give 5 stars simply because this AVR-X2400H can't be beat in it's price range. If you have high sensitivity speakers, which most quality speakers have even moderately priced, this Denon has more than enough power. Crutchfield is the only way to shop and compare these electronics. You can talk to an expert or click and shop like me. I needed 4K video upscaling, HDCP 2.2 for 4K video and HDR compatible specifically. I'm about to buy a new top of the line Samsung TV with all the bells and whistles. Next year I'm buying a 4K video camera. I have a Sony Playstation Pro and you need only the best to get full appreciation of that PS. Regardless of what you decide on. You can't go wrong if you buy only from Crutchfield with their 60 day money back guarantee. If you happen to be newer to audio/video or an old pro like me, you can talk to a member of their staff and they will treat like a friend. Thank you for your indulgence and please forgive the grammar. In closing a bit of sage advice that will serve you well. Only buy esoteric electronics from Crutchfield because when you have a question or a problem they will have your back and won't let you down.

Pros: Has all of the bells and whistles.

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After 12-years, it was time to replace my very expensive, heavy beast of an AVReceiver (Sony STR-DA5200ES) which was conservatively rates at 120watts x 7 after one HDMI port quit working. The Denon offers a lot of features my old AVR didn't have and for less than half the price. Honestly the Denon is close to perfection, but I do notice that I have to turn the volume up to 50-55% to achieve the same normal TV listening volume I was able to achieve with 25-30% volume on the old receiver. Either the old AVR was very underrated or the Denon may be a bit optimistic in it's power rating because a difference of 35-watts should not be this noticeable. Thankfully, the Denon has enough power to drive my system as loud as I would ever want, I just have to turn it up a lot more. The GUI and user experience is much better with the Denon, as you would expect from newer gear. I like the understated design and simple readout that doesn't call attention to itself when watching TV. For some reason, after doing all the sound calibrations, the Denon set my small bookshelf speakers up as 'large' an subwoofer up as LFE only, sending all the bass from all non Dolby-Digital audio to the small bookshelf speakers. I switched the front-main speakers to 'small' and the subwoofer to 'LFE+Bass' in the Denon menu and everything sounded much better. My only ongoing concern is my old receiver made better choices with audio signals, whereas the Denon seems confused with non Digital-Dolby 5.1 input.

Pros: Design, Value, Graphical User Interface

Cons: Power rating seems a little optimistic, clicking when switching on and changing sources, non digital Dolby 5.1 surround seems to confuse the receiver resulting playing all surround audio through the front speakers or center channel only. Subwoofer output seems low and had to be turned up to keep my subwoofer from thinking there was no signal and going to sleep.

    Good mid range Receiver

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a really good receiver for the money. It is a little less power than my previous one which was a Pioneer SC-27. However with the upgraded pass through support and the ease source changes is nice. Also having the level and boost for sub-woofer level control is nice. The set up was straight forward easy and the microphone doing my setup for my speaker configuration was nice.

Pros: Ease of set up and a small package.

Cons: No Chrome cast built in with this model but is offered on the models above this.

Versatile receiver with much for the price.

Great receiver that is compatible with speakers from 4-8 ohm impedance. Easy to program and set up for the room. Crutchfield reps really helped be narrow down a choice and I am happy with the outcome. A lot of bang for your buck with this unit.

    Pros: Versatility, clear sound reproduction.

Cons: Would have liked phono input.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First Purchase of the one of the smaller Brothers of AVR series from Denon. I absolutely love this Receiver. Video processing and upscaling from this machine is dead on. No lag! No jitters! (Buy Decent HDMI cables) I can get into all the specifications but that what the spec sheet is for! I will say this if your running in an audio cabinet or enclosed space provide alot of ventilation. It does run a bit on the warmer side when pushing your Speakers. It does a great job running my 5.1 set up at this time. Im currently running Mod 2 set up from Orb Audio with crossover set at 120 hz and speaker size set small. I will soon buy a new Sub from SVS to really add the pressure im looking for!

Pros: Versatility , Impressive circuitry, Expandability, Rigid, enough Power. Latest sound Formats up to date

    Cons: Heat!

Replaced my Sony STR-DH550 with the Denon. The sound quality is great! Has plenty of power to push my Polkaudio TSi 200's, Polkaudio CS10 Center Speaker, my Bose 401's, RCA SPK 500 Dimensia's and 2 12 inch Powered Subwoofers. Love the Internet Radio feature as well to listen to Hardradio. Haven't tried the HEOS yet. Will do that in the future. Took me a little bit to figure out the remote to get to certain settings to get the speakers set. But once I did... sounding amazing!

Pros: Plenty of power, Internet Radio, HEOS...

Cons: No manual. But it's not really hard to figure it out.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love it. I updated my previous receiver which was about 15 years old. I researched and looked at all the reviews here and on the web. I finally decided to go with this Denon. It has all the bells and whistles that I will need for the next 15 years. My only complaint is there is a small lag when switching from streaming from Nexflix to regular tv. Otherwise, I have no complaints. My next move will be to go with the Heos wireless speakers. I also love being able to control the receiver from my Ipad.

Pros: Has all the bells and whistles

Cons: lag when switching from Nexflix to tv

Great sound for both music and movies.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded my old Denon AVR after I went 4K with my TV in the living room. So far very happy with the way it switches between the different video sources at different resolutions (1080p/4k). The only piece that I am not 100% happy is the ARC protocol which is not always consistent switching off/on and sources. Regarding the quality of the sound I am very happy with both movies and music sources.

Pros: I'm a long time Denon user and this upgrade did not disappoint. Sound quality is what you would expect from a receiver in this price range.

Cons: Remote control could have a higher quality finish. Is it too much to ask to add light to the remote control?

Good sounding receiver with loud solenoids that click when firing up the unit. The bit hangup is it does not play nicely with a Harmony remote. I have adjusted the Harmony to not repeat commands sent, but the receiver insists on turning to a different input setting when turned on and turns itself back on after being turned off.

Pros: Sounds good, easy to configure

Cons: Not compatible with Harmony remote.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Denon AVR-X2400H is an awesome receiver. It connected easily and switches well between HDMI inputs and optical inputs. The sound balancing capacity in the setup mode resulted is a great home theater experience in a room with 14 ft ceilings, oval structure, stucco walls and tile floors (read sound bounds everywhere). I use it with Boston Acoustics speakers, Polk center, BA dipole rears and connect to it a Sony DVD Carousel, a Sony CD Carousel, a Denon turntable, a Samsung 4K Smart HDTV, a Roku box, a Cisco cable box, and a Sharper Image outdoor speaker system. All this operations seamlessly with a Logitech Harmony Companion. Thanks!

Pros: Great sound, great sound balancing in set, easy to connect multiple devices. HEOS built in is a great plus.

Cons: Haven't found one so far.

Bitstream Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS ES, DTS 96/24

Immersive Surround Sound: The Denon AVR-X2400H AV receiver goes beyond regular surround with the latest immersive surround sound formats - like Dolby Atmos or Dolby Surround and DTS:X or DTS Neural:X.

    • Dolby Atmos: Dolby Atmos surround sound technology dispenses with channel-based coding in favor of more advanced object-based coding, giving the soundtrack designer the ability to precisely place sounds anywhere in the 3-dimensional space. Now you can enjoy this same award-winning technology at home with the AVR-X2400H that lets you connect a 5.1 surround sound speaker system and 2 additional overhead speakers or 2 Dolby Atmos elevation speakers for the ultimate home theater experience.
    • Dolby Surround: Dolby Surround offers an enhanced cinema experience to your 2ch or multichannel movie soundtracks using your existing 5.1ch, 7.1ch, or Dolby Atmos speaker setup. Dolby Surround enhances audio definition by improving the spatial dimension and overall audio definition of movie soundtracks. It does this by using four distinct surround zones that provide greater control over the exact placement of each detail in a movie sound track, so audio can be matched more accurately to the video on screen; this means more depth and greater realism for your movies. As a result, individual sounds are clearer and more distinct. It also improves the surround sound experience across the entire theater by widening the listening "sweet spot".
    • DTS:X: The latest immersive surround sound system, DTS:X features object-based audio coding that lets the soundtrack designer place sonic elements anywhere in the 3D acoustic soundspace, and provides for overhead speakers to deliver a stunning surround sound experience. Along with DTS:X decoding, the AVR-X2400H features DTS-HD Master Audio decoding and other DTS audio technologies.
    • DTS Neural:X: Further, DTS:X incorporates Neural:X, the latest spatial remapping technology from DTS, which provides a fully immersive output for all types of source content; this includes DTS bitstreams and non-encoded (PCM) data. Neural:X delivers a thrilling sense of immersive sound to your speaker layout regardless of the original source format.

Audyssey Silver: The AVR-X2400H features the Audyssey Silver suite of powerful DSP features; including MultEQ XT, Dynamic Volume, and Dynamic EQ.

    • MultEQ XT: Via the supplied measuring microphone, Audyssey MultEQ measures all the speakers in your home theater during setup, including the subwoofer, and then generates multiple high precision DSP room acoustic correction filters, which together provide smoothest and most natural tonal balance, regardless of the brand or model of the various speakers. Up to eight listening positions can be measured, configured, and recorded. MultEQ XT compensates for both time and frequency characteristics of the listening area based on "Audyssey Setup" measurement results. Selection is done from three types of compensation curves - Reference (default and recommended, L/R Bypass, Flat, and Off).
    • Dynamic Volume: Audyssey Dynamic Volume features advanced psycho-acoustic processing to deliver clear dialog and wide range sound at reduced volume levels so that you can enjoy theater-level clarity at whatever listening level you choose.
    • Dynamic EQ: Audyssey Dynamic EQ also features advanced DSP processing to deliver full range wide-band response, even at reduced volume levels. Dynamic EQ Reference Level Offset provides three offsets from the film level reference (5 dB, 10 dB, and 15 dB) that can be selected when the mix level of the content is not within the standard.

Listening Modes: You can choose between a variety of Denon Original listening modes or a two Direct modes.

    • Denon Original Listening Modes: Denon's Original Listening Modes, combined with Dolby Digital/DTS processing, produce more realistic, powerful sound effects for your movie and music sound tracks based on the type of content and your home theater setup. Choose between Rock Arena, Jazz Club, Matrix, Video Game, Mono Movie, Multichannel Stereo, or Virtual (surround from only front speakers or headphones).
    • Direct Listening Modes: The Denon AVR-X2400H offers two Direct Listening Modes which bypass the receiver's tone & DSP processing for higher sound quality performance. Direct Mode provides playback of 2ch or Multichannel audio in its original form, without any surround or tone processing. Pure Direct Mode goes a step further by turning off the receiver's display and analog video circuitry to minimize the possibility of any noise being added to the audio signal.

Audio Enhancements: The Denon AVR-X2400H receiver provides various audio enhancements to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.

    • CINEMA EQ (Cinema Equalizer): The Cinema EQ function gently decreases the level of the extreme high frequencies, compensating for overly-bright sounding motion picture soundtracks. Select this function if the sound from the front speakers is too bright. This function only works in the Dolby Digital & DTS modes.
    • Compressed Audio Restorer: Compressed audio formats such as MP3, WMA (Windows Media Audio), and MPEG-4 AAC reduce the amount of data by eliminating signal components that are hard for the human ear to hear. The Restorer function generates the signals eliminated upon compression, restoring the sound to conditions near those of the original sound before compression. It also corrects the sense of volume of the bass to obtain richer sound with compressed audio signals.
    • Dynamic Range Compression (DRC): Motion picture soundtracks have tremendous dynamic range (the contrast between very soft and very loud sounds). For listening late at night, or whenever the maximum sound level is lower than usual, Compressing the dynamic range allows you to hear all of the sounds in the soundtrack with reduced dynamic range. DRC works when playing program sources recorded in Dolby Digital or DTS.
    • Room Size: The receiver's audio output can be set to simulate the acoustics of a Small, Medium Small, Medium (default), Medium Large, or Large room environment. This setting is not an indication of the actual size of your listening area.

Level Adjustments: The AVR-X2400H provides the following level adjustments.

    • Source Level: This function adjusts the playback level of the currently selected input source's audio input. Use this feature if there are differences in the input volume levels between different sources. You can correct the playback level of the audio input from -12 to +12dB.
    • Dialogue Level: You can adjust the output level (+/-12dB) to increase the dialogue output from the center channel.
    • Subwoofer Level: You can set the receiver's subwoofer output level (+/-12dB) independent from the other speaker levels and system's main volume.

Volume Settings: The AVR-X2400H offers the following volume settings.

    • Volume Scale: You can choose to display an Absolute volume scale (0-98) or Relative volume scale (-79.5 to 18dB).
    • Volume Limit: You can set a maximum volume level of 0, -10, or -20 dB to limit the receiver's total volume output.
    • Power On Level: You can define the volume setting that is active when the power is turned on (0, 1-98, -79 to +18dB, or Last)
    • Mute Level: You can set the amount of attenuation for the audio muting circuit; -40dB or -20dB below current volume, or full mute (sound turned off entirely).

Audio Outputs: The Denon AV receiver features color-coded binding-post speaker terminals, dual sub outputs, and a front-panel headphone jack.

    • Color-Coded Speaker Terminals: The receiver has binding-post terminals for all speaker connections. The binding-post terminals can accept bare wire, pin connectors, and banana plugs (single/dual). The receiver will accept speaker impedances of 4 to 16-ohm. The AV receiver comes with color-coded labels to easily identify which channel a speaker cable should be connected to. Since the speaker cables have labels in the same colors as the connectors on the AVR-X2400H's rear panel, there's no longer any confusion about which terminals they should be connected to.
    • Dual Sub Outputs: For compatibility with dual subwoofer home theater systems, the AVR-X2400H features two non-discrete subwoofer outputs. With dual subwoofers, which can be placed in different parts of the room, you'll benefit from response averaging, which helps provide smoother and more detailed deep bass, compared to a conventional single subwoofer speaker system. The same signal is output from each sub output.
    • Headphone Jack: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4" jack on the front panel, all the speakers are automatically muted.

    Video Section

HDMI 2.0b: Featuring eight HDMI inputs (including one conveniently located on the front-panel) and two HDMI outputs, the AVR-X2400H incorporates an advanced video section that features the latest HDMI 2.0b specification, including support for 4K/60 Hz Ultra-HD video, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, BT.2020 Wide Color Gamut, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and 21:9 video pass-through. The AVR-X2400H also features HDCP 2.2 compatibility, a requirement for 4K Ultra HD copy-protected content.

    • 4K/60Hz Pass-Through: The AVR-X2400H supports up to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) video @ 60 frames per second on all of its HDMI inputs and output (pass-through only). It will also pass a 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p video signals via HDMI
    • HDCP 2.2: All of the receiver's HDMI jacks support HDCP 2.2, which fully complies with the latest copyright protection standard for 4K video transmission.
    • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: All of the receiver's rear-panel HDMI jacks support RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:2:2, and YCbCr 4:2:0 color subsampling (@ 60Hz or 50Hz). With 4:4:4 color subsampling, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate; resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail. The front-panel HDMI only supports 4K 60/50Hz using format YCbCr 4:2:0 only.
    • Wide Color Gamut (BT.2020): The BT.2020 color standard delivers a much wider color gamut and represents about 75% of the total visual color spectrum, while the current Rec. 709 color standard selected as the color space for HDTVs and early generation 4K Ultra HDTVs covers only 35% of the total visual color spectrum.
    • 21:9 Aspect Ratio: By supporting 21:9 aspect ratio, this receiver can show films recorded in the Cinema Scope format on your TV for a much more immersive video experience. When these types of films are viewed in the usual 16:9 ratio, you see black bars at the top and bottom of the screen; 21:9 eliminates these bars.

HDR Compatibility: HDR provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, creating greater contrast. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. The receiver supports HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and HLG (via 2017 firmware update).

    • HDR 10: HDR 10 is an open standard and currently the most popular HDR format on the market. It supports 10-bit color and 1,000 nits. It uses static metadata at the start of a movie to tell the receiver and your TV that the video content is encoded using HDR.
    • HLG (via 2017 Firmware Update): HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma) is primarily designed for live video feed and over-the-air broadcasts. It uses no pre-encoded metadata and is backwards compatible with SDR. HLG's native compatibility allows much of today's existing SDR infrastructure to be re-used for HDR in the future.
    • Dolby Vision: Unlike HDR 10 which contains static metadata and HLG which uses no metadata, Dolby Vision utilizes dynamic metadata which adjusts brightness, color, and contrast automatically for each scene. Dynamic metadata carries information that maps every image to your TV's display capabilities, so you see more of what the content creator intended. Dolby Vision supports 12-bit color and 10,000 nits.

HDMI Video Upscaling (up to 4K): The Denon AV receiver's sophisticated video processor provides upscaling of standard definition (480i/480p) and high definition (720p/1080i/1080p) HDMI connected sources to 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160 pixels). The AV receiver only upscales HDMI input sources through the receiver's HDMI 1-2 outputs. The receiver does not offer analog-to-HDMI upconversion.

Dual HDMI Outputs: The two HDMI outputs are parallel, so the same audio/video signal is output through both and can be used simultaneously.

Other HDMI Features: The Denon AVR-X2400H AV receiver's HDMI connectivity also offers 3D video pass-through, ARC (Audio Return Channel), Deep Color & x.v.Color support, as well as an auto LipSync function.

    • 3D Ready: The AVR-X2400H AV receiver supports 3D video pass-through (720p/1080p only) from connected 3D-compatible Blu-ray, games and broadcast devices to 3D-compatible HDTVs (all 3D components must be connected via HDMI). Special eyewear will be required for viewing 3D content.
    • ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature of the AVR-X2400H's HDMI monitor output allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to the receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.
    • Deep Color & x.v.Color Support: The AV receiver supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture
    • LipSync: This function adjusts the delay between audio and video output. You can do this manually or have the receiver set the LipSync function automatically. When connected to a TV via HDMI the receiver automatically adjusts audio output timing (0-500ms) if the TV supports an automatic LipSync function. You can also manually delay the sound output up to 500ms to synchronize it with the video image.

HDMI Standby Pass-Through: When the AV receiver is in "Standby" mode and the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is enabled, both audio/video streams from the receivers HDMI input will be output to your television, via the AV receiver's HDMI monitor output. Once the receiver is turned "On", only video will pass through the monitor output to your TV and the audio is directed to the receiver's speaker outputs.

    • HDMI Input: Selects the HDMI Input for which the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is enabled.
    • Last: The HDMI Standby-Through function is activated on the input source selected at the time of setting the AV receiver to the "Standby" mode.
    • Off: The HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is disabled.

Analog Video Inputs/Outputs: The Denon AVR-X2400H is equipped with two composite video inputs and one composite video monitor output, plus two component video inputs and one component video monitor output. The composite video inputs can only be output via the composite video monitor output and support up to 480i video signals. The component video inputs can only be output via the component video monitor output and support up to 1080i video signals.

Video Select Function: This receiver can display video from a different source on your connected TV during audio playback from Tuner or HEOS music apps.

Video Modes: You can set the video processing method to match the type of video content. Choose from Movie, Game, Auto, or Bypass.

Advanced ISFccc Video Calibration: The AVR-X2400H is certified by the Imaging Science Foundation to deliver top video quality, and the unit also features advanced ISFccc video calibration controls that allow for precision fine-tuning of the connected HDTV, even if it's not an ISF certified set. You can choose from a variety of Picture Modes - Standard, Movie, Vivid, Streaming, ISF Day, ISF Night, Custom, or Off. The Custom mode lets you manually adjust Contrast, Brightness, Saturation, Noise Reduction, and Enhancer (sharpness).

    Notes:
    • Initial setup requires that the receiver be connected to your TV via HDMI for display of the on-screen menu. Many of the receiver's setup functions can only be found via the on-screen menu and not the front-panel display.
    • The video being played will not appear in the background of the menu when the menu is operated during playback of 4K or 3D video, or if the video aspect ratio is not 16:9 or 4:3.

Quick Select: On the AVR-X2400H's front-panel and remote control, you'll find four Quick Select buttons that let you quickly choose from the most popular input sources. With Quick Select, the AVR-X2400H remembers not only your preferred inputs but also your preferred audio settings, so you can enjoy precisely tailored sound with each one.

Input Name & Delete: You can change the display name (up to 8 characters) of a selected input source. If an input isn't being used, you can delete it from the display so you don't have to scroll past it when you change sources.

Sleep Timer + Auto Standby: The Denon AV receiver features a programmable Sleep Timer and Auto Standby function. The Sleep Timer allows you to automatically set the power to standby after a predetermined amount of time has passed; set the sleep timer up to 120 minutes in 10 minute increments. The unit enters Standby mode automatically when no commands are sent to the unit for the set time (15/30/60 minutes). Before it enters the standby mode, "Auto Standby" is displayed on the front-panel display of this unit and the on-screen menu.

ECO Mode: This receiver is equipped with an ECO Mode function that allows you to enjoy music and movies while reducing the power consumption during use, Eco mode adjusts the maximum power available according to the volume level selected to reduce power consumption.

Personal Memory Plus: For each input, the receiver automatically memorizes the settings for input mode, surround mode, HDMI output mode, audio delay, etc. When the input source is switched, the settings last used for that source are automatically recalled. The surround parameters, tone control settings, and playback levels for the different output channels are memorized for each surround mode.

Protection Circuit: This is a function to prevent damage to components within the power supply when an abnormality such as an overload, excess voltage, or over-heating occurs. In this unit, the power indicator blinks and the unit enters standby mode when an abnormality occurs.

I wanted something comparable to the receiver I was replacing and I got some very helpful advice from Buzz and the other rep I spoke with earlier in the week. I chose this company because I heard you have excellent customer service and THAT is what I am looking for. I want to know that if I have an issue setting up my equipment there is someone knowledgeable I can call. [ Susan  Dec 12, 2018 ]
Recommended by David at Crutchfied and my follow up question was answered by JC. It was very easy and a pleasure to communicate and work with Crutchfield [ JAMES  Dec 09, 2018 ]
Was trying to decide between this one and an Onkyo TX-RZ620. Almost identical specs. Both great. Almost a coin flip. The reviews for this system had a lot more comments about this system really improving existing speakers. Plus, the reviewers seemed to be more tech geeks than those of the Onkyo unit. Despite great performance from Onkyo in the past, decided to try something different. [ George  Dec 09, 2018 ]

Based on Harley's recommendation. Considered multiple options including this years model (2500H) and the next step up (3400H and 3500H and 4400H). The added features of the others didn't seem to matter even though they were in my budget. Thanks Harley for the recommendation, and got to purchase some noise cancelling headphones with the extra cash saved. [ Gregory  Nov 28, 2018 ]

I am attempting Denon based upon having to replace my second Onkyo receiver due to an hdmi issue in less than three years. So I felt compelled to go in another direction. Lucy's advice was straightforward and convincing in the reliability of this product. This product was also offered at a great price, so it was worth a shot. We will see how it goes...I am hoping I will be converted to a Denon fan, if all goes well despite being a strong Onkyo supporter in the past. [ Zel  Nov 27, 2018 ]

After upgrading my TV and moving to BluRay, I needed more HDMI ports than my aging Denon AVR-2307 could handle. I've loved the Denon products I've owned over the years, and the X2400 is a perfect fit for my current needs. [ Mark  Jun 10, 2018 ]

We like the features on this unit compared to others for the price and sound coverage of our space. I found that it is rated very well on several review websites and forums. One website discussed the circuitry of Denon units which impressed me. [ Timber Wolf  Feb 03, 2018 ]
    Excellent price!! [ Nat  Dec 21, 2017 ]
Combination of Denon features plus HEOS technology. Seemed like a better solution than a BOSE proprietary system that would not allow me to use my own bookshelf speakers. [ John  Nov 28, 2017 ]

Wattage (sufficient for living room), HEOS, number of HDMI (to connect all components), works with Harmony hub [ James  Sep 16, 2017 ]
I was looking for a 4K AV receiver to replace our Yamaha. Our budget was set at under 1000, and when researching recommendations the Sony and the Denon were ranked high. I chose the Denon because of its features (eg. airplay compatible, dual subwoofer outs) and brand reputation, and wanted to try something else different from Yamaha. The sale price made it an extra bonus! Looking forward to hooking it up to the new Apple TV 4K (my next purchase) [ Michael  Sep 13, 2017 ]
Have owned Denon components for years, time to upgrade to new technologies. [ Patrick  Sep 11, 2017 ]

    12 questions already asked

It does work with wireless speakers however all of mine are wired and I don't have a sound bar with this system as it has a center channel 4speakers for surround and a sub. [ Robert  Nov 29, 2018 ]
For me it has more than enough. But, my days listening to very loud music are over. Is a very good receiver/amplifier. [ JOHN H  Aug 30, 2018 ]
There should be a plug for the trigger on both the receiver and the amplifier (next to the trigger switch). You will also need to purchase a trigger cable separately, which is essentially a 3.5mm cable with male ends on both sides. [ Kyle  Jul 31, 2018 ]
I think you would be happy . The Denon amp has very nice sound and just about any adjustment you could need including a 9 band equalizer that can be set for each speaker individually . I do not have a sub woofer but it pumps out the bass and I rarely need to set volume above 60 % as this starts to shake the house . Hope this helps....enjoy ! [ Quintin  Apr 03, 2018 ]
My system is not set up yet [ KENNETH  Apr 03, 2018 ]
Plenty of power. The main consideration for you is the size of the room and the placement of the speakers. That will greatly determine the overall quality of the sound. Our room is fairly large and open, with high ceilings, and the speakers do a fine job. [ GUS N  Apr 03, 2018 ]
I use Klipsch speakers with my Denon AVR- X2400H .The Denon has the power to make the speakers sound the way they were designed. The Denon has the Audyssey system which gives you the best sound for your setting position . [ HARRY  Apr 03, 2018 ]
It does have some venting on the bottom [ Will  Apr 02, 2018 ]
Hi Yamil, No, this receiver does not have ventilation holes at the bottom. But it does not get hot. Mine is always on either with the TV or listening to some music. [ NELSON E  Mar 27, 2018 ]
I have the Logitech 915-000224 Harmony Ultimate Universal remote and it works with my AVR-X2400H, Projector, and cable TV... sometimes the remotes doesn't turn everything on right away or on the first try, but it does work. Volume, source select, Menu, and on/off. [ Michael  Mar 19, 2018 ]
Yes, works fine passing Netflix Dolby Vision from a Chromecast Ultra to a LG OLED. HDR10 passes through fine as well from the Chromecast Ultra, a Roku Ultra (ended up returning, flakey HDCP FW issues), and my PS4 Pro. ARC is solid as well from the LG C7 to the Denon, Atmos working from the LG's Netflix app. [ Christopher  Sep 26, 2017 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget. [ Krissy  Sep 15, 2017 ]  Staff
Yes. If your TV will provide the Atmos channels from it's HDMI ARC output, the Denon will decode it via this input. I hope that helps. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan [ Ryan  Aug 16, 2017 ]  Staff
The Denon AVR-X2400H features built-in Bluetooth that can be selected as a source for playback in Zone 2--however, you cannot have more than one Bluetooth device connected to the receiver at a time.
