About the Denon DHT-483XP
If you already have a DVD player, and you're looking to add 5.1-channel surround sound to your life, Denon's DHT-483XP home theater audio system is the ideal one-stop solution. Including an A/V receiver, five satellite speakers, and a powered subwoofer, this package is ready to deliver enveloping surround sound excitement right out of the box! Just add a digital cable (check your DVD player to find out if it takes optical digital or coaxial digital; both types are available from Crutchfield), and prepare yourself for a whole new movie-watching experience.
Denon's powerful AVR-483 A/V receiver dishes out 70 full-bandwidth-rated watts x 5 channels of amplification, and includes Dolby Digital® and DTS® decoding for DVDs. Thanks to Dolby Pro Logic II, you can fire up any 2-channel source (VHS tapes, stereo TV broadcasts, stereo music, etc.), and listen to it in full 5.1-channel surround sound. Cinema EQ adjusts the tonal balance of your front speakers for more accurate reproduction of movie soundtracks. You can also easily adjust delay times and other parameters for a customized surround sound experience, and save your settings for fast recall.
Denon's 6-piece speaker system delivers clean, accurate audio. The front and rear satellites include a 3-1/2" midrange and 3/4" tweeter for impressive directional special effects and a broad front soundstage. The center speaker boasts dual midrange drivers for precise reproduction of on-screen dialogue. And, of course, the 55-watt powered sub fills in the vital low-frequency rumble.
Best of all, the DHT-483XP is a cinch to set up and operate. The system comes with an easy-setup guide that takes you through the connection process step by step. And the handy remote not only controls the AVR-483 receiver, but also many other Denon A/V components.Details:

More details on the Denon DHT-483XP
Digital Signal Processor: The AVR-483 features a 24-bit DSP processor. This high-quality DSP chip gives the receiver the ability to accurately decode surround and DSP modes.
24-bit, 96 kHz D/A Converters: The AVR-483 uses highly accurate 24-bit, 96 kHz D/A converters to handle digital-to-analog conversion, giving you superior sound quality.
Surround Modes: This receiver incorporates a wide variety of surround modes to bring you maximum enjoyment from your audio and video software. The surround modes include:
- Dolby Digital
- Dolby Pro Logic II (Movie and Music)
- Rock Arena
- Jazz Club
- Video Game
- Virtual Surround
- Mono Movie
5-Channel Stereo: The receiver's 5-channel stereo mode transforms any two-channel source into surround mode, but without directional steering effects. The left front channel signals are duplicated in the left surround channel, and the right channel signals are duplicated in the right surround channel. All in-phase components of the left and right channels are output from the center channel.
5.1 Multi-Channel Input: The AVR-483 is equipped with a 5.1-channel input to accommodate outboard decoders. It has a wide bandwidth of up to 100kHz to accommodate high-resolution audio sources such as DVD-Audio and SACD.
Assignable Digital Inputs: You can assign the name of the component connected to each of the two digital inputs. The names you can choose from include: CD, DVD, TV, VCR, V.AUX, CDR, or OFF.
Personal Memory Plus: The Personal Memory Plus function automatically memorizes the surround mode, channel volume, surround parameters, and other settings for each of the separate input sources.
Cinema Equalizer: The Cinema EQ function gently decreases the level of the extreme high frequencies, compensating for overly-bright sounding motion picture soundtracks. Select this function if the sound from the front speakers is too bright. This function only works in the Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, and DTS surround modes.
Dynamic Range Compression: Motion picture soundtracks have tremendous dynamic range (the contrast between very soft and very loud sounds). For listening late at night, or whenever the maximum sound level is lower than usual, the Dynamic Range Compression allows you to hear all of the sounds in the soundtrack (but with reduced dynamic range). This only works when playing program sources recorded in Dolby Digital. You can select one of the four settings: "Off", "Low", "Mid" (middle), or "Hi" (high).
Last Function Memory: This unit is equipped with a last function memory, which stores the input and output setting conditions as they were immediately before the power was switched off.
Back-Up Memory: The unit is also equipped with a back-up memory. This function provides approximately one week of memory storage when the main unit's power switch is off and with the power cord disconnected.
Multibrand Remote (RC-896): In addition to controlling the AVR-483 and other Denon A/V components, the supplied remote is pre-programmed to control many brands of A/V components, including DVD players, Video Disc players, VCRs, CDs, CD Recorders, Tape decks, MiniDisc Recorders, and TVs.
Front Speaker Outputs: The AVR-483 offers Front "A" and "B" speaker outputs, allowing you to connect a second pair of speakers for another room. Because the "A" and "B" speaker outputs are wired in parallel, the minimum impedance is 6 ohms when using "A" or "B" and 12 ohms when using "A" and "B" speakers together.
Speaker Connectors: This receiver is equipped with binding post connectors for the front left, front right, and center speakers. They are not 5-way binding posts because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs and they are positioned too far apart to be used with dual banana plugs. The left and right "B" speaker outputs and the rear speaker outputs are spring clips which can accept bare wire and pin connectors.
Front Panel Inputs: The receiver has a set of A/V inputs on the front panel behind a removable cover. It includes stereo audio RCA jacks and a composite video jack.
Headphone Jack: The AVR-483 has a standard 1/4" headphone jack on the front panel. When you want to listen with headphones, you will first need to turn off all of the speaker outputs. There is no sound output from the headphone jack if either Speaker A or Speaker B is on.
DSW-37 Powered Subwoofer: The DSW-37 Powered Subwoofer has a down-firing 6-1/2" woofer. The built-in amplifier is rated at 55 watts RMS, at 4 ohms from 30-120Hz with no more than 1% total harmonic distortion. A front-firing port enhances the sub's bass response. On the rear panel is a mono RCA line level input and a rotary level control.
SC-53S Satellite Speakers: The SC-53S Satellite Speakers feature a 3-1/2" High Compliance Polypropylene Injection woofer and a 3/4" silk dome tweeter. The woofers have a rubber surround for extra durability. Each satellite has a metal keyhole slot on the rear for wall-mounting onto a screw, plus two threaded female inserts compatible with most optional wall brackets.
SC-53C Center Speaker: The SC-53C Center Speaker features two 3-1/2" High Compliance Polypropylene Injection woofers and a 3/4" silk dome tweeter. The woofers have a rubber surround for extra durability. There are no wall-mounting provisions on the center speaker, however, there are 4 non-slip rubber feet attached to the bottom of the enclosure for secure placement on a shelf or TV.
- Subwoofer: 12.1 pounds
- Satellites: 3.74 pounds
- Center Speaker: 6.16 pounds
