About the Denon DRA-685
Read the story here!
Denon's DRA-685 is your ticket to pristine, powerful stereo sound and true A/V flexibility. This mighty receiver delivers 100 watts x 2 channels of high-current Denon amplification to fill your room with rich, dynamic stereo sound. Denon's exclusive Signal Level Divided Construction uses independent circuit blocks for handling low-level and high-level signals. This smart design helps the DRA-685 maintain maximum signal purity and reproduce your music with enhanced clarity and precision.
The back panel offers enough inputs to hook up 3 audio components, including a turntable, and 3 A/V components. You also get a multibrand remote that gives you easy control of your TV, DVD player and VCR. Best of all, the DRA-685's dual-room/dual-source capability lets you and a housemate watch two different A/V sources at the same time! (TV, receiver, amplifier, or powered speakers required in second room). Denon even includes a basic second remote that lets you change your second-room source and volume. (Use of this remote from the 2nd room requires a remote control extender, not included.)
The ability to independently select audio and video sources in your main room adds another level of flexibility. For example, you can watch a football game on TV while listening to game commentary from a radio broadcast, or watch a news station with scrolling headlines while listening to music.
The DRA-685's integrated AM/FM tuner offers 40 presets for easy access to all your favorite stations. Two sets of main speaker outputs let you connect an additional pair of speakers in another room without the need for a second amplifier (these speakers will always play the source you've got selected for your main room). A preamp-out/main-in loop keeps you ready for system expansion.

More details on the Denon DRA-685
Signal Level Divided Construction Chassis Design: The circuit handling low-level signals has been divided into separate blocks to ensure that influences from these signals on each other are held to an absolute minimum. This chassis design, known as the Signal Level Divided Construction (SLDC), preserves the purity of the signal, allowing it to be reproduced with much greater fidelity and clarity.
High-Quality Power Amplifier: With 100 watts of power per channel (at 8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05% THD), the DRA-685 delivers solid, reliable audio performance even when driving both A and B speaker systems at the same time.
Multi Source Function: The DRA-685's Multi Source function lets you enjoy two different programs, simultaneously in two or more areas of your home. You can listen to a CD or the tuner in one room, for instance, while another family member watches a DVD video or video tape in the other room. Dedicated multi-room outputs, with volume level adjustment via remote control, are provided for connection to powered second zone speakers or a second zone amplifier. The Multi Source output has left and right RCA audio jacks and an RCA composite video jack.
Easy Simulcast Recording: This feature not only permits reception and recording of FM/TV simulcast programs onto videotape, but it can also be used to combine, for example, the sound from a CD with the picture from a video disc.
Room-to-Room Remote Control with Remote In/Out Terminals: External remote control equipment, including IR re-transmitters and IR remote receivers, such as Denon's separately available RC-616, RC-617S, RC-617W, and RC-618 IR devices, can be connected to the DRA-685's IR remote input and output terminals. By connecting such equipment and using the supplied sub room remote control, you can switch the sub room output on and off, select the sub room source, adjust the volume, and recall preset radio stations from the sub room.
Video Select Function: This function allows you to select a video source, and then select an alternate audio input source.
Record Out Selector: This feature lets you listen to one source, while recording another source.
Last Function Memory: This unit is equipped with a last function memory, which stores the input and output setting conditions as they were immediately before the power was switched off.
Back-Up Memory: The unit is also equipped with a back-up memory. This function provides approximately one week of memory storage when the main unit's power switch is off and the power cord is disconnected.
RC-872 Remote Control: The main remote control can operate the receiver as well as other remote control capable Denon components. In addition, the remote is pre-programmed with control signals for other brands of products, including DVD players, laserdisc players, VCRs, and TVs.
RC-873 Remote Control: The sub room remote control allows you to switch the sub room output on and off, select the sub room source, adjust the volume, and recall preset radio stations from the sub room.
Speaker Terminals: All of the receiver's speaker terminals are binding posts. They are not 5-way binding posts because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs and they are positioned too far apart to be used with dual banana plugs.
Room-to-Room Remote Jack: The receiver has a minijack input for use with an optional Denon RC-616 IR re-transmitter.
Headphone Jack: The receiver has a standard 1/4" headphone jack on the front panel for private listening. When headphones are plugged in, the receiver's speaker and preamp outputs are automatically turned off.
Pre Out/Main In Loops: The left and right preamp outputs are connected to left and right preamp inputs, respectively, with "U" shaped metal jumpers. The jumpers may be removed to facilitate the connection of an equalizer or external amplifier.
