About the Sima SVS-4D

Are you constantly plugging and unplugging source components because your receiver doesn't have enough inputs to handle them all? This audio/video switcher can solve the problem, while adding some very cool conveniences. The 4 A/V inputs and 2 outputs all offer composite and S-video jacks. What makes the SVS-4 really handy is its ability to automatically convert a composite signal to S-video — now a single S-video connection to your TV lets you watch multiple video sources.

Dual outputs let you connect one set to your A/V receiver for home theater, and the other set to your TV for low-volume late-night viewing. Turn on a video source and the SVS-4 automatically sends the signal to your TV! You also get automatic volume stabilization: increase the dynamic range to pump up louder passages and quiet softer ones; or decrease the range to achieve a more balanced effect.

This versatile switcher even includes digital audio conversion. Hook up to 4 digital audio components to the switcher's inputs, then connect them all to your receiver via a single digital output — optical or coaxial!

Features

Auto Input Mode (AIM): When the Auto Input Mode is on, the SVS-4D constantly scans the video inputs, both composite and S-video, waiting for a signal. When you turn on a component, a microprocessor senses the signal, turns on the SVS-4D and selects the input. If a second signal is sensed, the unit will switch to the new input. If the second input is turned off, the SVS-4D will return to the first input.

Note: This Auto Input Mode only senses the video signals and not the audio signals.

Automatic Volume Stabilization: The Volume Stabilization circuitry allows you to maintain constant audio volume levels for late night viewing or when channel surfing. It can also be adjusted to add impact to old movies by increasing the dynamic range. A front-mounted dial allows you to compress (10:1) or expand (1:2) the dynamic range. In the middle, at the 1:1 setting, the input is equal to the output, so there is no affect on the audio signal. If the knob is turned towards the 10:1 setting, the audio will remain more constant. This will bring up soft dialogue and reduce loud sounds. If the knob is rotated towards the 1:2 setting, the unit will increase the dynamic range and make loud sounds louder and soft sounds quieter to add impact to music or movies.

Note: The Volume Stabilization circuitry only works on analog signals.

Composite to S-Video Conversion: The SVS-4D has special circuitry that converts composite video to S-video and then passes the converted signal through the S-video outputs. At the same time, the original composite video signal is passed through the composite video outputs.

Note: The conversion is for convenience only, the resulting picture will not be of S-video quality.

Digital Audio Conversion: Incoming digital signals, whether optical or coaxial, are passed through both digital outputs. This allows you to connect this unit to your receiver via a single digital output - optical or coaxial.

Brightness Control: Using the supplied remote, you can adjust the brightness of the front panel LEDs. The brightness can be set to Bright, Dim, or Off.

Controls

Front Panel:

  • Power/Standby: turns the unit on or off
  • Input 1-4: four separate buttons that allow you to choose the desired input
