Stay safe with the Escort MAX 3 radar detector
Stay safe with the Escort MAX 3 radar detector
If you're looking for rapid, reliable warnings without any extra bells and whistles you might not need, Escort's MAX 3 radar detector might be the perfect solution for you. It boasts long-distance coverage and built-in GPS so it can use Escort's database of red-light and speed cameras to keep you in the know. Bluetooth® connectivity means you can take advantage of Escort's smartphone app for real-time alerts from other drivers on the road, for added security and convenience.
Robust, long-range coverage against multiple bands
The Escort MAX 3 shields you against X-, K-, and Ka-band radar signals, plus multiple laser threats. Escort's advanced sensors now look for the signature of each signal the MAX 3 encounters, to weed out false alerts and to get the information to you more quickly. You can keep a low profile, thanks to this detector's invisibility to VG-2 radar-detector detection.
The Escort Live app keeps you in the loop
The Escort Live app is a simple way to get your iPhone® or Android™ smartphone involved in reducing your stress while driving. The app combines your GPS location information with real-time reports from other Escort Live users to keep you abreast of potential threats in your vicinity. You can also use the app to report your own sightings of enforcement or other potential travel hazards, which will then be instantly available to other Escort Live users. The app also alerts you to major changes in the posted speed limit, so you can stay on top of the situation. The Escort Live app is free to download, but a subscription fee is required to use many aspects of the Escort Live service — Escort includes a 1-year trial of the Escort Live Premium service with purchase of the MAX 3 detector.
The Escort MAX 3's multi-color OLED display delivers timely alerts in a user-friendly fashion. You can choose the backlight color to complement your vehicle's interior lighting, and the easy-to-recognize icons and graphics really stand out on the detector's screen. You'll also get voice alerts in English or Spanish so you can make timely decisions while keeping your eyes on the road.
Included camera locations
The MAX 3 comes with Escort's Defender preloaded database of safety, red-light, and radar camera locations across North America, allowing the detector to warn you when you get near. You can download updates, back up your data, and maintain the database through Escort's website. You'll need a subscription and a computer to update the MAX 3's Defender database — Escort includes a free 3-month subscription with your MAX 3 purchase, and update subscriptions are available through Escort's website.
Store important points
Just tap a button on the keyboard to store locations along the road where the speed limit drops quickly, or where you might encounter heavy enforcement. The MAX 3 will warn you when you approach them in the future. Or press the mute button at the location of a known false signal — the detector will remember the signal, muting the alert the next time you pass by. You'll hear an alert if another type of signal comes from the same location. The AutoLearn feature can even lock out false alarms after three encounters with them in the same location without you having to do anything at all.
Intelligent Speed Sensitivity automatically adjusts sensitivity based on your speed to help keep you focused on the road ahead. The MAX 3's In-Vehicle Technology (IVT) filter weeds out signals used by other vehicles for collision avoidance systems and adaptive cruise control which can often deliver false alerts.
Personalize your drive
You can set a number of features on the MAX 3 to accommodate your driving comfort level, including which radar bands you wish to monitor, which meter you'd like to see when a signal is detected, and other enhancements. If you want, you can have the detector warn you when you're going faster than a pre-determined speed limit. You'll have three sensitivity levels to choose from and five different brightness settings, including fully dark.
Works with your Kenwood or JVC touchscreen radio
If you've got a recent JVC or Kenwood touchscreen receiver that supports Apple CarPlay® and has an iDatalink port, you can see alerts from the detector through the stereo's display. You just need to add a couple of adapters to make it work: the iDatalink Maestro RR2 interface module and the Escort Maestro portable detector kit. Once connected to your compatible stereo, you can enjoy a large-screen view of the band detected and your current speed on your radio's large screen.
Note: If you already have a compatible JVC or Kenwood stereo and an older (pre-2019) iDatalink Maestro RR module, you must replace the older Maestro module with the newer RR2 module — the older RR module lacks an input that is required for a connection with the portable detector kit and will not work with this detector.
Everything you need
Escort includes a travel case, an EZ Mag windshield mount, and a 12-volt SmartCord with the MAX 3. The SmartCord features smart and coiled sections and allows you to see alerts when the detector's in fully dark mode, or to mute the detector without touching it. And when it's time to update the Defender database of cameras and enforcement areas, the detector's mini-USB input makes it easy for data transfer from your computer.

Overview: The Escort Max 3 offers front and rear radar, as well as 360° laser protection. The Max 3 is GPS and Bluetooth-enabled, so you can receive alerts from other users through the ESCORT Live app as they come in. The detector comes with the magnetic EZ Mag Mount, SmartCord power adapter, and a zippered travel case.
GPS Technology: The Max 3 has a built-in GPS receiver, and uses GPS technology to identify and eliminate the source of false alarms, such as speed signs and automatic door openers. The GPS-powered TrueLock Filter lets you lock out false alerts by "marking" the location so the detector can reject the signal the next time you approach the area. The unit is also pre-loaded with the Defender database of thousands of safety camera locations, including red light and fixed photo radar sites, and will warn you when you are approaching these sites. You can update the Defender database through the Escort website, or when connected to your smartphone or connected car via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
Bluetooth / Wi-Fi: The Escort Max 3 is equipped with a Bluetooth chip to give you access to real-time alerts from other users through the ESCORT Live app. Software updates are also available wirelessly through Wi-Fi, or when connected to your computer via a Mini-B USB cable (not included).
OLED Display: The Max 3 features a multi-color, OLED graphic display with intuitive icons that identify the type of threat at a glance. You can set the display to blue, green, red, or orange to match your vehicle's interior gauges, or to suit your personal preference. The brightness of the display can be set to Dark, Minimum, Medium, Maximum, or Auto.
In-Vehicle Technology: The Max 3 has an advanced filter to reduce false alerts caused by In-Vehicle Technology (IVT). In-Vehicle Technology includes Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features in newer vehicles, such as automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane departure warning systems. These advanced features use radar and LiDAR that can cause false alerts. In-Vehicle Filtering significantly cut down on the number of false alerts.
Meter Modes: The unit offers different displays and bar graphs to indicate the signal-strength of the detected signal:
- Standard: Displays radar band (X, K, or Ka) detected, plus a bar graph of the signal strength.
- Spec: Displays radar band detected with numeric frequency, plus signal strength bar graph
- Expert: Displays up to four detected radar bands, plus bar graphs showing the signal strength of each detected band.
- Simple: Displays a color-coded simple message instead of radar bands or bar codes:
- Caution: "Caution" is displayed with a yellow background when an alert is received and you are traveling below your current Cruise Alert setting or the posted speed limit (when connected to ESCORT Live!).
- Slow Down: "Slow Down" is displayed with a red background when an alert is received when an alert is received while you are traveling above the current Cruise Alert setting or the posted speed limit (when connected to ESCORT Live!).
Tones: The Max 3 emits alert tones when a radar signal is received. Tones allow you to identify the type and strength without taking your eyes off the road. You can choose between Standard and Mild alert tones:
- Standard: The default Standard alert tones are a Geiger counter-type sound, indicating the signal strength and type of radar that has been received. Each band has a distinctive tone to help you identify the threat:
- X band: beep tone
- K band: brap tone
- Ka band: double-brap tone
- Laser: solid brap tone
- POP: solid brap tone
- Mild: Mild alerts are less obtrusive and simpler than the standard tones, but still distinctive for each band for easy identification:
- X band, K band, Ka band, and POP: doorbell chime
- Low signal strength: double chime
- High signal strength: triple chime
- Alert remains for more than 15 seconds: single chime reminder
- Laser: solid brap tone (always full strength)
ESCORT Live: The Max 3's built-in Bluetooth technology gives you access to ESCORT Live on your smartphone. ESCORT Live is an exclusive network which warns you of upcoming alerts received and reported by other users in the area. The ESCORT Live app connects you to other detector owners on the road in your area for sharing or receiving real-time alerts of law enforcement detection, the location of red light and speed cameras, and traffic avoidance incidents. The app also gives you access to local speed limit data for over-speed alerts. The app, through the extended Defender Database, provides locations and alerts of verified red-light and speed camera locations, air patrol zones, and average speed limits. The database covers the US and Canada, and is updated weekly. ESCORT Live is available as a free download. A Premium Subscription provides advanced features such as Radar Relay, and displays posted speed limits in the app, and on the connected radar detector. ESCORT Live Premium is available for $4.99 a month (or $49.99 per year). A free 1-year subscription to ESCORT Live Premium is included with the purchase of this radar detector. ESCORT Live is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 11.0 or later, and with Android device running Android 5.0 and up.
Escort M1 Dash Cam: The optional Escort M1 dash camera can mount directly to the Max 3 radar detector's suction cup mount. The camera comes with a long bolt that modifies the detector's EZ Mag Mount to accept the camera's mounting bracket, allowing you to mount the two devices side-by-side. The camera also has a short cable with an RJ11 plug that connects to the Max 3's to power both devices.
Laser Shifters: The Escort Max 3 is compatible with optional Laser Shifters, such as Escort's ZR5 or ZW5, to give you maximum protection against all laser threats, including variable pulse rate. When connected to a ZR5 or ZW5 laser shifter, you can use the mute button to manually shut off Laser Shifting, once you have checked your speed. The shifters remain in "Receive Only" mode for about 30 seconds to allow you to get past the speed trap.
Detector Tools Pro: Escort's Detector Tools Pro program allows you to update your Defender database and software. The Max 3 has a Mini-B 2.0 USB port on the side to allow you to connect the unit to your computer via USB cable (not included). Detector Tools Pro supports Firmware, Location Database updates, Detector Software, and Defender Updates, and is available for Windows 7, 8, and 10.
Earphone Jack: There is a standard 3.5mm earphone jack on the right side of the unit.
SmartCord: The supplied SmartCord includes approximately 22" of straight cord and about 7" of coiled cord, and expands to up to about 3' when stretched. The cigarette lighter adapter end includes a mute button and two LEDs (Alert and Power). The adapter has a Type A USB port (5V 2A) for powering or charging other devices.
Maestro Portable Detector Kit: The optional Maestro Portable Detector Kit lets you connect your Escort Max 3 and other compatible radar detectors to a Maestro ADSMRR2 radio interface when using a compatible Kenwood/JVC iDatalink-ready radio with CarPlay. Once connected, radar alerts will come through Kenwood/JVC sound system, and an on-screen "Escort" page will display the Band and Frequency, as well as your vehicle's speed when alerted. You can also use the radio's touchscreen to activate AutoMute, Mute, or Lockout.
AutoPower: The AutoPower feature automatically turns off the unit after a specific amount of time to reduce the current drain on the vehicle's battery. If AutoPower is off, the unit turns on or off depending on your vehicle's ignition type (constant or switched power). For constantly-powered accessory ports, you can set AutoPower to turn off the unit after 1, 2, 4, or 8 hours. With AutoPower on, the display screen goes blank if the vehicle is sitting still for over 30 minutes. It will turn on automatically again when you reach 10 mph.
EZ Mag Mount: The Max 3 radar detector comes with the new EZ Mag Mount that is designed to mount the unit on the center of the windshield between the driver and passenger. The EZ Mag Mount attaches to the detector via a strong magnet, with a large, 2-1/2" diameter StickyCup suction cup to mount to the windshield. You can adjust the angle of the detector via the provided thumbwheel.
